Hatred of DeBlasio has united all New Yorkers, Democrats, Republicans, Greens, and all races, all boros, and all classes.
He has given unity to New York City when no one else could.

His rant was wrong too. He said something about 4 years...he was mayor for 8. The city reelected the clown!
Plus he legally changed his name TWICE, people should have known then that he was a nut.

by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 1, 2022 1:04 PM |
Why would a grown man change his name? Did he want to become an actor? Do his kids have his real last name or this made up one?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 1, 2022 1:05 PM |
He was born Warren Wilhelm, Jr. R12 and went by that name all through high school and college.
His dad left the family and so he wanted to use his mother's maiden name -- de Blasio.
IIRC, "William" (Bill) is is middle name and he started to use that since his father's name was also Warren.
So major daddy issues.
The wife is also an ex-lesbian. As in she was an out lesbian very actively involved with lesbian groups before she met him
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 1, 2022 1:10 PM |
Sorry I know nothing about de Blasio. Could someone explain what he's done to NYC for everyone to hate him?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 1, 2022 1:10 PM |
He was 100 percent correct . It is amazing that with all of the outspoken celebrities out there , ol’ Andy the only one to trash DeBlasio -an unprecedented disaster by any measure
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 1, 2022 1:10 PM |
Complaint is New Yorkers’ love language, so I always have trouble distinguishing whether there are serious grievances against De Blasio or it’s pretty stuff like where he works out. Can someone clarify?
And of course the knives are already out for Adams. Who would want this job?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 1, 2022 1:11 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 1, 2022 1:12 PM |
De Blasio is safe to trash.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 1, 2022 1:14 PM |
Incoherent ranting, 'he like, totally, like sucks' isn't good enough. Be specific in your complaints. BTW,Eric Adams described himself as the champ on twitter last night after taking office. Champ of what? Elected officials no longer understand the assignment because so few citizens vote in elections.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 1, 2022 1:18 PM |
So... As an outsider to the NYC world, I'm still confused as to how de Blasio messed up. Any concrete examples of his failures?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 1, 2022 1:26 PM |
Here are some more details R20: Pathetic on crime-every meaningful crime statistic (murder, shootings, etc) worse than when he was first inaugurated , trash piling up everywhere, homeless people /meth addicts swarming the streets , $850 M his wife was in charge of for mental health /Thrive NY project disappeared with zero results , subways a disaster , businesses shuttering, etc etc ….

r14 Deblasio's detractors are not permitted to have an opinion when they do not vote in elections. On his way out DeBlasio authorized the destruction of a park including the removal of 80 year old trees. A barrier is to be constructed to protect the area from flooding but the deal was rushed against local opposition and smells bad. It smells grifty.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 1, 2022 1:31 PM |
DeBlasio is a racist fuckwad.
But the ironic thing is that his policies hurt black people in the long run. And ask anyone in NYCHA how they liked him.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 1, 2022 1:31 PM |
He changed his name to be more electable.
His wife is a MAJOR grifter.
Both are frauds.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 1, 2022 1:34 PM |
He was mostly just incompetent and tone deaf R20 and showed no real ability to communicate with his constituents. He was elected and re-elected when the other viable candidates stood in the usual circular firing squad.
Sort of that old book The Peter Principle in action--he was an okay minor bureaucrat but a terrible manager.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 1, 2022 1:36 PM |
R25, I have voted in every single election for which I’m eligible, not just the big mayoral ones, since 1988. No way I’m an expert on city politics, but I try to keep up and am involved hyper-locally in district politics that affect my neighborhood specifically.
To use his favorite phrase: LET ME BE CLEAR. DeBlasio is not a hapless bumbling fool, he’s malicious.

I don’t understand how the $850 million isn’t a bigger issue. Can someone explain that? Also - it is sad that “journalism” has deteriorated to the point where I am more trusting of the responses on an anonymous message board than I am of published articles. But I haven’t seen a published article that adequately addresses it. It seems like they definitely can’t measure the effectiveness of programs, but can they demonstrate what the money was actually spent on and verify that those items and services were received? IOW, was she incompetent or criminal?

by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 1, 2022 1:59 PM |
Oh, look - he put her on a Covid task-force, too.
One day after Mayor Bill de Blasio named his wife Chirlane McCray to co-chair a task force on racial equity in the COVID-19 recovery, a City Hall spokeswoman says the task force has no authority to make decisions and is not designed to promote his wife’s political career.
“The entity itself does not have decision making power,” Jane Meyer, a spokeswoman for the de Blasio administration told NBC New York. “This group will be an ear to the ground and will be able to raise issues quickly or suggest ways to better connect with and serve communities that are most impacted."
Some critics said Mayor de Blasio is playing politics by giving the high profile role to his wife, who is said to be considering a run for Brooklyn borough president in 2021.
“The COVID-19 crisis in communities of color is real and deserves thoughtful leadership and swift action, not unqualified cronyism and nepotism,” said City Councilmember Antonio Reynoso, who is running for Brooklyn borough president.

Though I agree with him, it was wrong for Andy to express extreme personal political opinion on the show. He should be banned. The whole point of NYE broadcast is to AVOID the perpetual political squawk box that TV “news” has become. It is an apolitical event.
Andy’s opinion is also the lazy apolitical NYers new hip slogan. Andy is not a political analyst. He is a pop gossip. I’m finding more ignorant NYers broadcasting their hatred of BdB suddenly because it’s hip. It’s not informed poltical discourse, it’s parroting popular opinions.

It’s because she black, that’s why. She gets a pass because she’s black. And if you criticize her it makes you racist.
When she wore a denim pantsuit to a police officer’s funeral, she was criticized for not dressing appropriately. And anyone who said it was disrespectful to wear denim pants to an official’s funeral, was called racist because who are we to impose white standards of dress to a woman of color?

Joe Scarborough & Mika have de Blasio on as a Morning Joe guest rather frequently. Part of it is access due to the studio being in NYC. To me, de Blasio's demeanor and yapping is annoying. He had some useful information as to how NYC was coping with the pandemic. Still, I flip the channel after a minute or so when he appears.
As to de Blasio running for NY Governor, I can't see the State embracing him. His track record on crime prevention, showing favoritism, relations with public employees including police, and the management of the city's finances, are dismal.

by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 1, 2022 3:40 PM |
One very good thing de Blasio did was to appoint more tenant representatives on board that determines rents each year for rent stabilized apartments; they were actually able to hold down the usual hikes, even having a couple of years with no rent hikes at all. So for that I'm grateful.

He wants to be POTUS, what politician doesn't? He ran in a wide field for the 2020 Democratic POTUS candidate (alongside Bloomberg) during the height of the health crisis while Cuomo choose not to. Cuomo has a wider national presence than Deblasio but stayed put to serve New Yorkers. And you can see where that got Cuomo. Cuomo has been removed from office based on trumped up allegations of sexual harassment but Deblasio was allowed to serve his two terms even though his wife is being incorrectly accused of misappropriating 1 billion dollars of public funds!

De Blasio sucked long before Andy Cohen got the drunken balls to say it on CNN. He also was a terrible mayor long before it became fashionable to say so.

Some stupid cunt tried to tell me that deblasio was doing a great job and that plunging down all those places on the list was proof of what a FABULOUS mayor he was. He also thinks Chicago is doing well too.
That kind of fucking stupidity is how deblasio got re-elected, because the democrats think complaining about the current democrat that's in office is a sin and if they just cross their fingers and keep quiet things will magically get better. It won't. That's a FACT.

De Blasio lucked out when Preet Bahara was fired. Everyone seems to forget that de Blasio was about to have all hell come down on him for "pay to play" politicking. And if Trump's nepotism bothered you, then you should be annoyed with de Blasio for constantly putting his wife on task forces that she unqualified to lead. Not to mention how he was in the pocket of real estate developers.

The first year BDB was in office he was supposed to attend a memorial in the Rockaways for the people who died in the American Airlines flight 587 crash and he showed up over an hour late because he overslept. That to me was the defining moment of his Mayoral careers. The man is just a tone deaf schmuck.
His kids were adorable though and they always seemed like decent people and I think to a great extent he owed his first term to people’s desire to see a warm happy family as the face of New York after Bloomberg, who was perceived as a bit of a cold fish.

It's NY, not some dumbfuck flyover state or disgusting southern state. Most jobs in NYC have health insurance. And it's not a mayor's job to deal with this. He should have concentrated on the fucking job people elected him to do, which was take care of NYC. Instead this useless son of a bitch ran for president, all while NYC was going STRAIGHT TO HELL. The rest of NY did NOT ask for this dumb mother fucker's help.
We all know a useless jackass like bill de blasio. We've all worked with a piece of shit like bill de blasio. They were hired to do one job, but they aren't going to do that job. OH NO!!, NOT THEM. by Anonymous | reply 150 | January 2, 2022 1:40 AM |
R144, most jobs in NYC offer health insurance? Maybe, but not by much.
If NY has as many restaurant, hotel, and other such service type jobs proportionally as the rest of the country on average then 41% of workers there are defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics as “low-wage” and don’t have health insurance through their employers.
Health care, or lack thereof, is most definitely a local issue. The ability of hospitals to remain open often depends on people having health insurance, as evidenced by rural hospitals closing in states which didn’t take the Medicare expansion dollars from the federal government. Healthcare might not be a public service like water and sanitation but it plays just as large a role in the livability of a city.

Because when you're running as a democrat in NYC you're basically running opposed these days. It's not like the early 00s when a moderate republican could get elected. He also won on record low voter turnout... something like 22% of registered voters/roughly 8.5% of NYC's population voted.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | January 2, 2022 2:59 AM |
Both Rudy and Bloomberg needed a third party line to also run on to get elected as a Republican. You can combine party votes in NYS.
Adams was a Republican and changed to Democrat. We basically have a Black Republican mayor now. Which is fine with me, we need a little strictness and cutting of the city bureaucracy. Personally I would love to see the teachers union crushed and real school choice instituted.

De Blasio has done a lot for the city.
De Blasio's policy initiatives have included new de-escalation training for police officers, reduced prosecutions for cannabis possession, implementation of police body cameras, and ending the post-9/11 surveillance program of Muslim residents. In his first term as mayor, he implemented a free universal pre-kindergarten program in the city. De Blasio has called attention to what he calls stark economic inequality in New York City, which he described as a "tale of two cities" during his first campaign. He has supported socially liberal and progressive policies in regard to the city's economy, urban planning, public education, police relations.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | January 2, 2022 4:06 AM |
De Blasio was on the take. Even after being warned that his quid pro quo campaign financial arrangements was unethical he continued.
And, the groundwork for universal pre-K was laid by Bloomberg.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | January 2, 2022 4:15 AM |
R151, New York expanded medicaid. It's not the mayor's job to deal with this. That's the governor's job. de blasio is like that one jackass at every job you've ever had that ignores their own job and worries about everything else that has nothing to do with him.
I will give him credit for the expanded Pre-K, but he left the city a fucking mess. And nowhere is that more evident than the poor sections of the city. These kids who need the pre-K now live in even more dangerous conditions than before. Hopefully the kids don't get shot on their way to Pre-K

He cut $1 billion from the police budget and pissed it away somewhere else. Within 6 months he had to shift money back to the police.
He thought cancelling training courses/recruiting new officers and cancelling police overtime was a good thing. IT WASN'T.
