I'm Sorry, But "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" Makes No Sense!
Why not get rid of Seth's body as well as the cheating wife?
Little sister was in the same town able to kill both, brother was able to hire a shifty lawyer, have a "make believe trial" and be hung, but she didn't have time to confess?
Sister wanted brother dead all along.

It was a drunken, dime store level ripoff of Ode to Billy Joe.

Why would sis fly into a murderous rage because her sister in law had something on the side? What business of it was hers?

Why would the lights go out due to a hanging? What electricity does that use?

THIS is the night the lights went out in Georgia!

Really wish Cher had recorded this. But Sonny vetoed it.

The sister had time to talk with her brother because she knows the details of what happened on his way to Andy's house, i.e. the footprints to small for Andy to make

Right-so why did she let her brother swing when she could have saved his life?

Little Sister was busy disposing of the cheating wife's body.

Even Vicki L. admits it makes no sense.
Cher would have been great for the song

Of course it made sense. She didn't kill Seth, she killed Andy. And since Andy was alive at the beginning of the song, she had already clearly killed and disposed of the wife's body before killing Andy, which she did right after her brother fought with him at the bar. I mean, she may have killed Seth, too. We don't know. But the only dead bodies mentioned were the slut wife and Andy.
I suppose if you want to question anything, it would be the logic of Andy telling the guy- your wife is fucking that Amos boy, but don't be too upset, I'm your friend and I fucked her, too. How the hell is THAT supposed to make him feel less upset.

Andy is the brother, Seth is the body. You dont know what the fuck you're talking about.

Seth is NOT the body. And Andy is NOT the brother. Listen to the song.
Andy got scared and left the bar
Walking on home 'cause he didn't live far, you see
Andy didn't have many friends and he just lost him one
Brother thought his wife must have left town
So he went home and finally found
The only thing Daddy had left him, and that was a gun
He went off to Andy's house
Slipping through the backwoods quiet as a mouse
Came upon some tracks too small for Andy to make
He looked through the screen at the back porch door
And he saw Andy lying on the floor
In a puddle of blood, and he started to shake

The judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands!

The song does make sense. What the hell? It's a really good song. Would have been interesting to hear Cher singing it.

I can understand why you thought Andy was the brother because of the way Lawence sings the couplet
Andy didn't have many friends and he just lost him one
Brother thought his wife must have left town
It almost sounds like she sings "My brother thought his wife..." and as though she's referencing the name Andy for her brother, but that would make no sense since a few lines later, Andy is lying in a puddle of blood. How could they hang Andy if he's already dead.
You can apologize any time you want. R14.

This is the part of the song that's stupid, though. Why the hell are you gonna fire off a shot to flag down the police when you look guilty as hell?
And he went off to Andy's house,
Slippin' through the backwoods quiet as a mouse--
Came upon some tracks too small for Andy to make.
He looked through the screen at the back-porch door,
And he saw Andy lyin' on the floor
In a puddle of blood. And he started to shake.
Well, the Georgia Patrol was a'makin' their rounds,
So he fired a shot just to flag 'em down,

It makes sense, R21. It might not be the smartest thing to do, but it's not illogical. He was innocent. And if he'd had a proper trial they could have proven the gun that shot Andy was not the one he was holding.

The video adds some narration in the form of the sister talking to a reporter some years later to explain the plot holes. In it we find Andy is the narrator's fiance and she caught them in bed together and murdered them. Her brother knew his sister did it and pled guilty to cover for her and the corrupt judge refused to hear the truth. Also the brother is given the name Raymond.

All of our bickering does not negate the fact that the sister allowed her brother to swing from what was, evidently, the only extension cord in town for a double murder she committed but was to busy to confess to. Then she has the balls to sing about it!

I think it's inferred that the sister ran off because she had just killed two (maybe three) people and was hiding out. She wasn't around to confess to the murders so her brother was convicted of murdering Andy. She had no idea at the time that he was being implicated.
