Born in Montreal in 1963, Jean-Marc Vallée directed his first feature film in 1995, Liste Noire, a daring erotic thriller without precedent in the Quebec film world. The film received nine Genie nominations. It would take ten years, in 2005, before he signs his second feature film in French language.
At once an initiation story, a mystical fable and a hymn to difference, C.R.A.Z.Y. is a powerful and poignant work that, through its deeply personal character, touches on the universal. A true phenomenon, the film has been distributed in more than fifty countries and has garnered some twenty awards at the most prestigious international film festivals, including "Best Canadian Film" at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2005. That same year, C.R.A.Z.Y. won 11 Genie Awards and 15 Jutra Awards, in addition to receiving the Golden Reel Award for the highest grossing feature film at the Canadian box office.
Jean-Marc also wrote the first two parts of a trilogy of short films that revisit the father-son relationship, a theme dear to the director. These singular works, united by a dreamlike atmosphere and a vision that is both tender and implacable, LES FLEURS MAGIQUES (1995) and LES MOTS MAGIQUES (1998) have won numerous awards in Quebec and abroad. Her film Vict oria: The Early Years of a Queen, produced by Graham King and Martin Scorsese, won the Oscar for "Best Costume Design" in 2010 and received two nominations for "Best Art Direction" and "Best Makeup".
Jean-Marc VALLÉE has directed: Demolition, Wild, Dallas Buyers Club, Café De Flore, Victoria: The Early Years of a Queen, C.R.A.Z.Y., Posse II, Black List, Sharp Objects, Big Little Lies

Except there are scenes in Sharp Objects and BLL where you can barely see anything because he did not want to light his sets. There was speculation over whether it was to save money on the lighting package, save time because you never had to change lighting set ups when you moved the camera or because he simply wasn't good at lighting sets.

Was he gay or not? He seems to have been married for several years (to a man or a woman? it was years before gay mariage was common in the US or Canada), although there's nothing about the marriage on his imdb, and the marriage produced two sons. But he also looked like a gay man and worked out like a gay man, and made films about such quintessentially gay topics as gay life, AIDS, wealthy housewives, and the British royal family.

And since sometimes French films are released in American theaters, just in case, I warmly recommend this film about the adaptation of Lost Illusions from Balzac. Xavier Dolan is an actor in it, very good as always. The main actor who is playing Balzac is breathtaking cause the way he is so concentrated in his role is just captivated. This movie shows the manipulation of the media. We can say that nothing has changed.
In the trailer Xavier Dolan appears at 1:04 min in case if someone is interest, (we never know, some Americans aren't closed-minds). Despite the covid restrictions, the critics were all praising the movie and the public too.

R139 Justin Trudeau was born in Ottowa because his father was Prime Minister. It is mainly his Quebec father who educated his sons, not their mother. He spent more time in Quebec than in British Canada. On the other hand, someone is said to be a descent when he is no longer directly affiliated for decades or even centuries with his origins. But when your father is a Quebecois, sorry but you are not a descent.
Also, during the last elections in Quebec, last summer, facing one of the candidates who snubbed him, Justin Trudeau got angry and almost shouted "But I AM Quebecois, don't you dare to tell me otherwise!"

So they wanted him for BLL. He didn't want to do it and was doing Sharp Objects. So much bullshit on this thread. He made BLL what it was- he was touted as a genius by everyone and added the flashbacks for Woodleys character that wasn't in the script by Kelly for example. Facts people. Facts. Bit somehow Reese was behind him not doing the mediocre sequel
Justin Trudeau was born in Ottowa
Oh, [italic]dear.[/italic]
because his father was Prime Minister. It is mainly his Quebec father who educated his sons, not their mother. He spent more time in Quebec than in British Canada.
Over the course of his life, yes; but not for the first thirteen years of his life. He spent most of his time for the first thirteen years of his life in Ontario (where he was educated as a child, and also where his parents lived--and when his parents divorced he would visit his mother in BC).
On the other hand, someone is said to be a descent when he is no longer directly affiliated for decades or even centuries with his origins. But when your father is a Quebecois, sorry but you are not a descent.
I said "He is of Quebecois descent," and he absolutely 100% is. His father is Quebecois (although his mother is from British Columbia).
btw, I don't know where you're pulling this odd definition of "descent" (I think you mean "descendant"), but it makes no sense.
My mother is British, but I was not born or raised in the UK; so therefore I am of British descent. Just so, Justin's father is Quebecois, but Justin was not born or raised in Quebec; so therefore he is of Quebecois descent.
Also, during the last elections in Quebec, last summer, facing one of the candidates who snubbed him, Justin Trudeau got angry and almost shouted "But I AM Quebecois, don't you dare to tell me otherwise!"
Well, big deal. It was politically advantageous for him to make that claim.
Hubert Humphrey told the NAACP Convention in 1968 he was "a soul brother"--that doesn't mean he was one.

Nicole Kidman:
It’s hard to imagine someone as vital, energetic and present as Jean-Marc being gone. I’m shattered. He was at the center of MY creative universe and I can’t overstate his significance to ME. Jean-Marc was not only responsible for some of the most rewarding professional experiences of MY career, but his friendship, kindness and love were an inspiring force I will carry with ME. I will always cherish those nights filming above the crashing waves of Big Sur…it doesn’t get better than that. I am forever grateful for MY time shared with this extraordinary human. Forever Jean Marc.”

R159 You are appallingly stupid. He always said that his mother, who had serious mental issues, had not been there. It was his father, a Quebecois, who raised the children, the mother being bipolar, she could not take care of them. He spent time in Ontario for his studies, but he is from Quebec. French is the first language he spoke and he knew his Quebec culture better than the British culture. It is not for politic adventage that he asserts his Quebec identity, he has always claimed it. And it's not an asshole on the DL who apparently knows very little about Quebec, and the Quebecois who were in Canada long before the English took over the land. He also said that he and his Quebecoise wife speak only French at home. And so do his children. He wants to preserve his Quebec culture in his privacy.
Oh and I said "descent" in response to the mistake made by the person who claimed he was a Quebecois"descent" here at R123.
Descendant is a French word, so you're not leraning me anything here.
I let you ramble and fantasize. But Trudeau is a French name not British one at all. And As he said himself and ALWAYS said, "Je suis Québécois, j'ai toujours été Québécois, je serai toujours un Québécois". He even knows that he comes from La Rochelle in France. It is in this case that we can speak of French descendants!

Stand-ins are used for anyone who needs a person to "stand in" place so they can do their job. Directors (rehearsals where everyone can't be present), cinematographers (camera blocking), gaffers (lighting setups), etc. would all use them.
All I know is I heard from some extras that he didn't use stand-ins; imagine how that went over with Reese Nicole etc.
Well, it was Reese's baby too so I don't think she'd care, also there are times when it's better that the actor is physically there. If actors believe in and support the director's vision, they'll do just about anything.

Most likely a heart attack. As others have posted, he was an avid partaker in Wim Hof’s breathing methods which are extreme. Holding your breath too long, particularly in a cold environment, can cause your heart to start beating irregularly and even stop the flood from flowing properly. It can also increase the carbon dioxide in your blood and cause liver and kidney damage.

by Anonymous | reply 207 | December 28, 2021 9:29 PM |
R205 I am assuming that R203 meant checking cholesterol levels. He actually may have had normal cholesterol and good blood pressure and still dropped from a heart attack or stroke. Over exercise coupled with holding your breathe too long can cause atrial fibrillation (abnormal heart beat). Many people don't realize that their heart rhythm is off until they have some kind of cardiac episode.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | December 29, 2021 2:34 AM |
You get your cholesterol levels checked; if they're high (or even if they're not) you get other blood tests done; you get an EKG or ultrasound; if they find blockages, maybe they put a stent in. It's just basic preventive health care for heart disease (and stroke too).
I realize that most people don't bother with this stuff but you figure that someone who's a health nut would do it, unless they're the type to fall for dopey fads like holding your breath.
