Yep, was visiting a friend and got pulled into it. Ended up visiting Philadelphia as a result, which was a plus. But completely lame. There was some terrible song we sang as well.

While Googling what the heck that was I came across Babs contribution and just had to share it here.

It seemed both stupid and important at the time. I don't remember why for either.

It's eclipsed in my memory by this song/video, which came out the same summer. To be honest, I never understood what the point of Hands Across America was, or if it was even raising money/awareness for any particular cause. It just seemed like a generic extension of the charity bonanza of the previous year.
