This song is incredible, and not their only good song, but their only hit, peaking at 3 on the Billboard charts. Their second biggest hit peaked at 37, not even close. Sad.
I heard that they were short lived. Why?

What I Like About You was a huge hit here in Australia

Their What I like About You video was in frequent rotation on MTV-USA back in the day.

Yes, r3, but to my surprise peaked at 49 on the charts. It was a #2 hit in Australia

Big deal, you buy like ten records and it's number one.

R7 Like, for real

This song is great though.

I like Crystal Gayle's version too.
Oh wait, that's a completely different song.

They was ugly. Whoever they were singing to may have had their eyes closed, but not cause they were sleeping.

Bad, bad hair.
Really bad hair.

I totally wanted my hair as big as that!
We went crazy for their other song at my school dances.

I'm stunned to hear that What I Like About You never even cracked the top 40 in the US. How is that possible? It's an anthem of the early '80s (technically it was released December of 1979). I swear it played all the time.
But apparently it did indeed peak at #49. Mind-blowing.

i think we're remembering they were played a lot on mtv....didn't translate to billboard charts.

This song was creepy and annoying then and it's creepy and annoying now.

I think it’s fun

Like a lot of rock bands songs that we believe were massive national hits were actually big regional hits. They may have been top of the charts in some major cities, but did not sell enough on a national scale to rise to the Top 40 charts. What I Like About You, which was a major radio staple for weeks in NYC, just missed the Top 40 charts at 49, while One In A Million just made the charts at 37.

When MTV ruled the airwaves, they played the same videos so often there was no need to buy your favorite song: turn on the TV and wait 30 minutes and you would hear it. I don't remember buying a single record/CD during the Punk/New Wave/grunge eras, and now with Internet, there's no need to. I don't even own a Foo Fighters song. I hope the artist gets something if you play the official version on YouTube. Probably 2 cents.

R19 actually that’s not very true. During MTVs early days they played all types of artists and they didn’t play them over and over on a loop like radio
