Is she still whoring around paris?

by Anonymousreply 1December 24, 2021 11:37 PM

Just finished season 2 then. It's that kind of light, fluffy stuff that should annoy the tripe out of me, but it just has such a sweet, feel good quality to it, that I can enjoy it for what it is. It's a totally ridiculous fantasy, but eh, after these past couple of years, I think we all could use it.

I laughed a lot at the scene with Camille's dad and the bottle; as the blood sprays Emily and Camille faints dead away. That was a fun bit of physical humour. And yeah I'm a sap, but I was so happy when Emily got the text from Sylvie to meet them for lunch. I thought that would happen, but it was still sweet to see.

They seem to in some ways have listened to a bit of the criticism of the first series; most notably there is a LOT of French spoken now (and a few other languages too). It still makes a lot of faux pas (see? I'm basically fluent in French!), but I did notice they tried to fix a few things (like Antoine's wife not being as ok with the affair as we were told was representative of the French in the first series).

Madeleine was fucking annoying, eating all over people.

I want to like Alfie because he is "stick your dick in me and nut right now" hot, but he was kinda smug for the most part and I hated his attitude to Paris. Not because he can't be unhappy there, not everyone has to love it, but were we meant to feel sorry for him "being in a city where no one understands [him]" when he refused to pay any attention in French class and only ate in expat places? I've also never been that keen on "ugh he annoys me so much, but now I really like him despite myself" type setups for relationships that are really common in US television. He got better in the last couple of episodes, at least.

The music was really great as always. I was so happy that they played Les Rita Mitsouko! But was Mindy's band meant to be originals? I thought she made out like they were initially, then we just see them singing "Sympathique" and "All By Myself" and I don't think anyone can suspend disbelief enough to accept those were originals with the band. I did like the song she and Benoît sang together at the club, though.

by Anonymousreply 2December 24, 2021 11:38 PM

Given all the hubbub, how did it get a second season.

Aren't the mobs OUTRAGED at something or other about this show?

by Anonymousreply 3December 24, 2021 11:39 PM

I think it did so well because it hit at exactly the right time - people stuck in isolation, wanting to see a fantasy to take them out of what they were living through. So it got a second season.

Most of the French I saw talking about it were bemused, though a few were like: "eh, it's fine, just a silly show". My favourite was Geraldine Lapere who was breaking down a scene for her students and was like: "And that's the joke. It's not very funny, but well... that's the joke."

I did see many more non French people who lived in Paris focusing more on the bits they found accurate as expats and enjoying the show more though.

[quote]Aren't the mobs OUTRAGED at something or other about this show?

Probably, but then again, isn't everything a cause of outrage with someone these days?

by Anonymousreply 4December 24, 2021 11:43 PM

R3 it was a huge hit.

by Anonymousreply 5December 24, 2021 11:43 PM

It’s not a show you take serious. That’s the issue, too many of you take it seriously. It’s a Darren Starr series. It has the same tone as Younger, and is a “younger”, sweeter SATC in Paris. It’s frau fantasy sugary goodness, not a serious drama.

by Anonymousreply 6December 24, 2021 11:45 PM

It's a sappy, saccharine show, but it has some good French male eye candy.

by Anonymousreply 7December 24, 2021 11:49 PM

Lots of Paris porn I hope.

by Anonymousreply 8December 24, 2021 11:54 PM

Heaps, R8. And if you are into outrageous, ridiculous fashion, there's heaps of that there (I'm not, but others I know loved that part of it too).

I thought Lucas Bravo was even hotter in this series than the first. I think it's his hair?

If I were Emily with all those hot French guys after me (seriously, every hot French guy wants her) I'd be a real salope.

by Anonymousreply 9December 24, 2021 11:56 PM

R9 the costume designer from the OG Sex and the City did this show over “And Just Like That”.

They were both filming at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 10December 24, 2021 11:58 PM

I was pleasantly surprised that season two was actually pretty good (“good” being relative here). Perfect holiday week binge viewing.

by Anonymousreply 11December 24, 2021 11:59 PM

Season one was nominated for Best Comedy series at the Emmys.

by Anonymousreply 12December 24, 2021 11:59 PM

That's so interesting R10... does it say something that she was more interested in this show than revisiting Sex and the City, maybe?

by Anonymousreply 13December 25, 2021 12:00 AM

Is it me, or did Emily get even thinner in season 2?

by Anonymousreply 14December 25, 2021 12:03 AM

R13 I think she was already tied to this one. I believe she did season one also.

They had to hire someone new to do the wardrobe for AJLT

by Anonymousreply 15December 25, 2021 12:03 AM

Thanks, R15.

I'm not sure R14, but I feel her eyebrows got even bigger!

by Anonymousreply 16December 25, 2021 12:05 AM

Patricia Field was offered her spot back for AJLT but she turned it down to stay and focus on Emily in Paris instead.

by Anonymousreply 17December 25, 2021 12:07 AM

Yes, Lily looks even thinner now. She looked skeletal, yet beautiful, in her wedding gown earlier this year. She’s always been very open about having eating disorder issues. I hope she hasn’t fallen down that rabbit hole again.

by Anonymousreply 18December 25, 2021 12:19 AM

I’m saving Season 2 for New Years Eve. Yes, my life is that sad. But I did enjoy season1.

by Anonymousreply 19December 25, 2021 12:23 AM

Nope. Didn’t finish season 1. Sure, Paris porn galore, and my god how stunning this city can be when filmed properly (and scrubbed off its homeless and refugees). But I couldn’t stand the succession of idiotic clichés about the French and Parisians, most of which are obviously untrue. And Emily having the typical American saviour complex with no self-awareness whatsoever. Let’s teach the French about social media. About luxury marketing. About fashion PR. Errrr, ok!

by Anonymousreply 20December 25, 2021 1:37 AM

They didn't really go further yet with Julien's German man, who I assumed he was going to start dating. I wonder if that is in place for season 3? They are letting the other characters have more of their own stories now, outside of Emily, which is good.

by Anonymousreply 21December 25, 2021 4:08 AM

At least the lead here is more attractive than Seabiscuit on SATC.

by Anonymousreply 22December 25, 2021 5:35 AM

Just watched the second season up to episode five. I know it is widely mocked around here, but I'm in love with the show. It's a sappy, cheesy love fest, and it makes Paris (one of the episodes takes place in Saint Tropez) look magical. After almost two years of the pandemic, it's such a joy to see something as fun as this romantic comedy show like Emily In Paris. To me, it is (Frau) escapist entertainment at its best.

by Anonymousreply 23December 25, 2021 11:29 AM

I described Season 1 as vacation porn.

by Anonymousreply 24December 25, 2021 11:47 AM

In 2020, I had just moved back to the US after living in Europe for several years. The pandemic began a week later, and it really depressed me to no longer be in a position to freely travel and experience new cultures. Since Paris is one of my favorite cities I ended up watching Emily in Paris as a way of escaping COVID and being stuck at home. It was fun to see places I had been and recalling memories at various bistros and parks...plus it seemed like each guy introduced was hotter than the previous guy!

However, I've since been able to scratch my travel itch and it was made perfectly clear in Season 1 that Emily will not be the type of character to mature. There's too much good TV out there and I don't think I can spend my time finding out which insanely hot guy some wishy-washy twat thinks she might possibly perhaps date.

Oh, and I'm solidly on Team Camille.

by Anonymousreply 25December 25, 2021 12:04 PM

R25 I agree about Emily. Fortunately the supporting characters are much more interesting.

by Anonymousreply 26December 25, 2021 12:10 PM

[quote] But I couldn’t stand the succession of idiotic clichés about the French and Parisians, most of which are obviously untrue.

This is true. However, the show also lampoons American (particularly midwest Chicagoan) culture.

by Anonymousreply 27December 25, 2021 4:18 PM

I didn't like her clothes. She they looked too big on her. She is wayyy too thin.

That chef put on weight.

That old lady has an incredible body, That shot when she was in her bikini emerging from the sea. Was that real or did they CGI her head on a younger body?

by Anonymousreply 28December 27, 2021 6:33 AM

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu steals every scene she's in, your eye is always drawn to her. I am literally considering watching Call My Agent only because I know she's in it.

by Anonymousreply 29December 27, 2021 7:34 AM

Just finished watching this but nothing much happened this season, she's basically back to square one with the chef. She can't have him coz he's with her friend. how many seasons are they gonna drag this out for?

by Anonymousreply 30December 27, 2021 9:24 AM

Emily is a horrible person. She cheated with her client/ friend's bf, cheated on her client, jeopardize her portfolio, could not even bring in American perspective with the leek people. Plus, Lilly Collins needs to stop wearing skimpy stuff, she is too bony to pull off hoochie mama, hooker look. More is More, dear.

by Anonymousreply 31December 27, 2021 9:46 AM

R29, Dix pour Cent is an amazing show...no need to consider. I'm actually rewatching all of the series just because it's so fucking good.

by Anonymousreply 32December 27, 2021 9:49 AM

Thanks R32, it's now firmly in place on my list of things to watch.

by Anonymousreply 33December 27, 2021 9:55 AM

R29, Call My Agent is great, but Philippine's role is pretty minor. She plays the estranged wife of a main character.

by Anonymousreply 34December 27, 2021 12:03 PM

Call My Agent is kind of a mess R29, but worth it. It looks expensive and glossy and every episode has a new famous French or Euro actor with an issue, which adds to the fun. The ensemble is all great actors. Philippine is more of an underwritten secondary character, but gets more screen time in later seasons. The comedy and writing doesn’t always work, but it’s a fun diversion when it’s on.

by Anonymousreply 35December 27, 2021 1:00 PM

Mindy is my favorite

by Anonymousreply 36December 27, 2021 3:46 PM

Mindy gets on my nerves

by Anonymousreply 37December 27, 2021 3:59 PM

same, can't stand Mindy. Annoying as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 38December 27, 2021 7:53 PM

The chef has pretty eyes.

The English guy is OK, cute smile

by Anonymousreply 39December 27, 2021 7:54 PM

I like Mindy. Or at least I find Emily more annoying than her.

Sylvie is my favorite character.

by Anonymousreply 40December 27, 2021 7:55 PM

Sylvie's face is a bit lopsided, it was more noticeable last season.

by Anonymousreply 41December 27, 2021 8:17 PM

They aged Emily to 29 as revealed in the birthday episode. She acted more like a fresh out of school millennial in season 2, but I think they wanted to synch up the age with Lily Collins. The weight loss and less dizzy behaviour are noticeable in season 2, not sure if either are a good thing.

by Anonymousreply 42December 27, 2021 8:51 PM

^I noticed that! I thought she was meant to be 23 ish in the first series.

by Anonymousreply 43December 27, 2021 8:53 PM

Correction. She acted more like a fresh out of school millennial in season 1.

by Anonymousreply 44December 27, 2021 9:04 PM

I'm glad they upped her age. As if a 22-year-old would have such a glamorous career position these days.

by Anonymousreply 45December 27, 2021 9:11 PM

I've never seen a deep dish pizza before, and the one that Madeleine sent to Emily looked repulsive.

by Anonymousreply 46December 27, 2021 9:19 PM

R3, what mobs? People laughed because this dumb show bribed the Golden Globes to get some undeserved nominations

by Anonymousreply 47December 27, 2021 9:20 PM

She was never 22 in the first. She had already been working for her company for a few years. Jesus some of you just make shit up. Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 48December 27, 2021 9:30 PM

R48, that's news to the star herself.

quote] “I don’t believe we’ve ever given her a specific ‘number’ for her age, but I believe that she’s pretty fresh out of college,” Collins told British Vogue in 2020. “Maybe this is her first year after graduation. I want to say she’s like, 22ish.”

by Anonymousreply 49December 27, 2021 9:34 PM

[quote]I'd be a real salope.

Pics please.

by Anonymousreply 50December 27, 2021 9:38 PM

Thanks, R49.

R50, DM me :P

by Anonymousreply 51December 27, 2021 9:40 PM

R51 why are you asking yourself to DM? The upvotes also signifies who you are.

by Anonymousreply 52December 27, 2021 9:58 PM

What? R52? I'm not R50. It was just a little joke, chill out.

by Anonymousreply 53December 27, 2021 10:03 PM

Lmaoooo psycho doesn’t think I know who he is still? Lmao

by Anonymousreply 54December 27, 2021 10:04 PM

Please, do enlighten me who I am.

by Anonymousreply 55December 27, 2021 10:05 PM

Yup… lmaoo

by Anonymousreply 56December 27, 2021 10:06 PM

I love Mindy and her story with the not-gay boyfriend.

Julian Looman, Gerard who is the guy flirting with Julien at the photoshoot, is the male lead of a crime series that takes place in Mallorca called The Mallorca Files. It's a light, fun show with great shots of the island.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 57December 27, 2021 10:08 PM

Gerard kinda disappeared after that episode, I wonder if he and Julien will have more of a storyline in season 3?

by Anonymousreply 58December 27, 2021 10:10 PM

I love how Camille's young brother chases after Emily, who isn't interested in him (after finding out he's underage), and tells her that it might be best that they break up. LOL.

by Anonymousreply 59December 27, 2021 10:13 PM

Haha, agreed R59. The funniest moment for me there was when she turned up and all his friends were there, nervously staring at Emily, because he'd clearly told them about the older woman he'd met haha (it seemed really sweet more than he'd been bragging or anything, if you get me).

He wasn't underage by the way. He was 17. AOC in France is 15.

by Anonymousreply 60December 27, 2021 10:18 PM

r60, for Emily, he was still considered a minor. Part of the show's favorite culture clash drama, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 61December 27, 2021 10:23 PM

Oh yeah, absolutely R61. It was interesting to me though that they didn't actually make that culture clash so obvious, no Emily fretting about it and the French telling her it wasn't illegal. More just an embarrassing situation when the right brother turns up at the table the next day.

by Anonymousreply 62December 27, 2021 10:29 PM

I would appreciate the Parisian escape eye candy of this show. And the fluff during heavy pandemic season.

However, I dislike Lily Collins so much that I sadly will be unable to watch the show.

by Anonymousreply 63December 27, 2021 11:17 PM

I love this show. It's visually stunning with the great locations and clothes, luxury settings, products and foods, not to mention Lucas Bravo, who is probably the most beautiful man I've seen in years. Lily Collins is good at comedy, she is scary skinny though, which makes all the smoking hot guys slobbering all over her seem unrealistic. They're styling her to look like Audrey Hepburn, not only the clothers and hair but even her eyebrows are exact copies of Audrey's.

EIP has some laugh-out-loud moments, like the Jules et Jim-like letter reading exchange between Emily and Camille., I spat my drink watching it. "I am sorry that I am naughty", "Leave em alone you illiterate sociopath".

It kinda amuses me that a show so unoffensive, fun and shallow evokes so much hatred in some people. Lol.

I loved that the other characters, and Sylvie got a bigger storylines. Sylvie is the best. Liked Kate Walsh playing the loud, obnoxious ugly american. Also loves the Versailles fashion show and Pierre Cadault. lol.

Great season and cannot wait for season 3. Pure escapism, great music, fun, clothes, smoking hot guys and Paris porn. Perfect.

by Anonymousreply 64December 28, 2021 5:21 AM

[quote]which makes all the smoking hot guys slobbering all over her seem unrealistic.

Agreed. In fact friends and I were talking about this today. There's nothing really very sexy about her that would warrant all these French men all over her.

[quote] EIP has some laugh-out-loud moments, like the Jules et Jim-like letter reading exchange between Emily and Camille., I spat my drink watching it. "I am sorry that I am naughty", "Leave me alone you illiterate sociopath".

Oh fuck, this was brilliant! I laughed a lot at that too. I also loved the moment where Camille's dad chopped his thumb off - the physical comedy of that was good, and that episode where Emily went shopping with Petra was a good one all up too. I would love if there was even more of the Jules et Jim scene style comedy in this. Adorable.

I never don't laugh when they say "Pierre Cadault"... so ridiculously close to Pierre Cardin, haha.

by Anonymousreply 65December 28, 2021 5:27 AM

Ummmm guys slobber over conventionally pretty women who are very thin all the time. They’re wife material.

by Anonymousreply 66December 28, 2021 5:30 AM

There is thin, there is very thin and there is scary skinny. Lily is scary skinny. The actress playing Sylvie is thin but sexy. Lily is in that anorexic girl from Stranger Things territory,

by Anonymousreply 67December 28, 2021 5:38 AM

R67 I LIKE IT!

by Anonymousreply 68December 28, 2021 5:39 AM

And she just got married so again, some men like their women very thin.

by Anonymousreply 69December 28, 2021 5:41 AM

R67, that's perfectly put. It's not that she's thin, she looks like she has no sexuality to her, I feel, due to the scary skinny nature of it. It's sad, I believe she's had anorexia? A friend of mine is like that and similarly looks just brittle and not sexy, despite being beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 70December 28, 2021 5:41 AM

On some level, I do get that men can be attracted to "exotic" women that seem different compared to local girls. But an always chipper American girl? Maybe for a quick fuck, but not being so madly in love with her.

Love the passive-aggressive animosity between Kate Walsh's Madeline and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu's Sylvie fighting for the boss lady no.1 bitch position.

by Anonymousreply 71December 28, 2021 8:06 AM

[quote] It kinda amuses me that a show so unoffensive, fun and shallow evokes so much hatred in some people.

Not hatred. Just find Collins offensive.

by Anonymousreply 72December 28, 2021 8:06 AM

Lily is very vanilla, bland

by Anonymousreply 73December 28, 2021 9:15 AM

This show is the Instagram version of Paris made for American women. That is exactly what they imagine an European trip to be. Everyone finds them adorable and all the guys want to fuck them. Bien sur…

by Anonymousreply 74December 28, 2021 9:21 AM

R73 which many White men seem to like.

by Anonymousreply 75December 28, 2021 12:55 PM

Speaking of Lily Collins getting married: I've always thought she strongly resembles Rooney Mara....who her husband dated for several years! (before she broke it off to be Joaquin Phonix, who she worked with while still dating Charlie McDowell).

Anyway, Lily's story so inspiring. She probably pinches herself when she thinks about where she started, and where she is now. I was surprised to learn she had a solidly middle class upbringing...her dad was a musician and her mother didn't have a job. After attending exclusive schools and making her debut at the Le Bal des Débutantes, she now finds herself traipsing through Paris in designer clothes.

She's proof dreams can come true if you work hard enough and make the most out of life's trials and tribulations.

by Anonymousreply 76December 28, 2021 1:52 PM

R76 her father is Phil Collins…

by Anonymousreply 77December 28, 2021 1:56 PM

I need to see Gabriel naked immediately.

I'm sensing a spin-off with the Mindy character.

by Anonymousreply 78December 28, 2021 2:23 PM

Paris for those people who've probably never been there and probably won't get the chance. But, I do hope the men show some dick.

by Anonymousreply 79December 28, 2021 2:32 PM

I like that this season had a slightly more pan-European feel.

by Anonymousreply 80December 28, 2021 6:06 PM

I liked that too R80. They made an effort there at least. Nice to be using a lot more French too.

by Anonymousreply 81December 29, 2021 7:34 AM

The Ukrainians I know are not happy with this show.

by Anonymousreply 82December 29, 2021 10:23 AM

It took me a bit that Petra thought that Emily meant she steals the free stuff, and then her being so clumsy at stealing herself.

by Anonymousreply 83December 29, 2021 10:31 AM

R76, I hope you're trolling. Lily Collins' father is bloody Phil Collins!!!! Hardly a weekend gigger.

by Anonymousreply 84December 29, 2021 12:17 PM

I was kinda surprised Alfie referred to Gabriel as a frog.

by Anonymousreply 85December 29, 2021 2:02 PM

You people are...wow.

I know Lilly Collins' dad is Phil Collins. I was joking because she grew up running around Paris in $1000+ clothes, and now she's on a tv show...running around Paris in $1000+ clothes.

by Anonymousreply 86December 29, 2021 3:21 PM

LIly Collins is atrocious: as an actor and smug personality. Why she has been pampered and repeatedly foisted upon the populace remains a mystery. Perhaps her father? The skeletal look is sick.....literally.

And read up on her (new) husband. Wow. He sounds dangerous.

by Anonymousreply 87December 29, 2021 4:41 PM

I just saw a picture of Ted Danson and Lilly Collins in a photo from the set of "Curb Your Enthusiasm." At first I thought it was just because they were both in the season finale, but it just hit me...

Ted's wife, Mary Steenburgen, is Lilly's mother-in-law (her son is Charlie McDowell).

by Anonymousreply 88December 29, 2021 4:45 PM

so is Lucas Bravo family?

by Anonymousreply 89December 29, 2021 5:24 PM

R85, 'frog' sort of rings as something people said 50 years ago. But I'm not from the UK. Maybe it is still used there..

by Anonymousreply 90December 29, 2021 5:25 PM

Emily's Busy Vagina In Paris

by Anonymousreply 91December 29, 2021 6:14 PM

Alfie did seem like a character created by American writers who were like: "oh hey, we've heard that there is a centuries old rivalry between the British and the French" so they wrote him a certain way as they thought it was, that doesn't quite ring true.

by Anonymousreply 92December 29, 2021 8:23 PM

[quote] And read up on her (new) husband. Wow. He sounds dangerous.

Link please?

He looks a lot like his father. Who was hott back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 93December 30, 2021 12:32 AM

[quote] Link please?

You obviously know how to use the internet if you are on DL. Google is your friend.

That said, there is info on Charlie and “some girls” in proximity to his living situation that claim he was....well......less than gentlemanly.

And Charlie (the new husband) has quite the rep in LA. He’s dated others before Lily.

[quote] The Vulgar Boyfriend: She was a star on one of the biggest TV series ever. She has had an interesting dating history, including whispers of how close she was to one of her troubled male costars. However, we’re going to tell you why she broke up with her last boyfriend. He is the son of two Hollywood actors, and has a career of his own as a director. They broke up earlier this year. Why?

[quote] Two reasons.

[quote] He cheated on her. And she did not appreciate his sense of humor. He is incredibly vulgar and immature. He likes to talk about women’s vaginas and tell r*pe jokes. He thinks it’s funny.

[quote] That is quite a contrast to our actress, who has frequently made statements about women’s empowerment and how her role on the show made her even more of a feminist. Although the couple only dated for a few months, we can’t believe they lasted even that long!

Speaks volumes of Lily Collins.

by Anonymousreply 94December 30, 2021 12:43 AM

R94 she WAS a star, past tense. Emily in Paris is a hit but hardly one of the biggest shows EVER, and it’s only on season 2.

by Anonymousreply 95December 30, 2021 12:52 AM

Who was the actress who dated Charlie for a few months?

by Anonymousreply 96December 30, 2021 12:59 AM

R96/R95 Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones

by Anonymousreply 97December 30, 2021 1:07 AM

Yes. I was just about to say Emilia Clarke. Lily’s show is too new to be considered one of the biggest shows ever.

by Anonymousreply 98December 30, 2021 1:13 AM

I saw Lily doing a promo interview for the show for a woman's magazine, and she's quite attractive when not dressed like a clown with clown hair. The best acting she and Ashley Park, also in the interview, do is pretending this is a wonderful show.

by Anonymousreply 99December 30, 2021 1:15 AM

I wonder what the actress playing Sylvie really thinks of Lily Collins.

by Anonymousreply 100December 30, 2021 1:18 AM

People actually watch this?

by Anonymousreply 101December 30, 2021 1:18 AM

R100: The actress who plays Sylvie, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, also has a famous father who made her entry into acting easier.

Also, between Rooney Mara, Emilia Clarke, and Lilly Collins, it's clear Charlie McDowell has a type. All 3 could pass as sisters.

by Anonymousreply 102December 30, 2021 1:24 AM

To add to the mention of laugh out loud moments, I loved the dog shampoo scene too. The lines back and forth between Emily and her roommate were great comedy.

by Anonymousreply 103December 30, 2021 1:28 AM

R101 it's never gonna be my favorite show and I won't cry if it gets cancelled, but it's a charming time waster

by Anonymousreply 104December 30, 2021 1:39 AM

R104 is exactly right. Plus, despite myself, there were scenes in season 2 that I legit laughed out loud with (the letters between Emily and Camille, for example).

by Anonymousreply 105December 30, 2021 1:46 AM

I love this show. Precisely because it's banal and ridiculous. I have plenty of other tv/movies I love which are more intellectually challenging, but EiP to me is like eating a giant bowl of junk food without the junk food hangover afterward. I can have it on while I'm doing other things and it makes me chuckle from time to time.

I also loved the letters between Emily and Camille and I find Luc (Bruno Gouery) hilarious. The office scenes and characters often remind me of Dix Pour Cent, another show I love for similar reasons.

by Anonymousreply 106December 30, 2021 7:50 AM

R102 somebody convince me that emilia clarke, rooney mara and lily collins are not the same person!

by Anonymousreply 107December 30, 2021 8:54 AM

There is nothing wrong with liking a series like this, whether you lived abroad and want to remember good memories or dream of wanderlust. Fuck the haters and just enjoy. The rest of you can va vous faire foutre.

by Anonymousreply 108December 30, 2021 10:01 PM

Sylvie steals the show!

by Anonymousreply 109December 30, 2021 10:16 PM

It's interesting too, in that for everything they get wrong in this show, and it's a bit, they also get a number of expat experiences right too. Smaller ones perhaps, like the one I'm thinking of is when Emily is, for the umpteenth time, trying to get Sylvie to hang out with her, and Sylvia basically tells her that there's no point as Emily is here for one year to have this Disneyland style experience and then she will leave. It often is very hard for people in their own country to open up to deeper friendships with expats, because they know they will be leaving. And apparently it is famously hard to make friends with Parisians; they tend to still keep the same friends they went to kindergarten with and developing new relationships takes a lot of time and effort. As one person told me once "You aren't their priority, their priorities are family and old friends, so it takes time to become their priority".

by Anonymousreply 110December 30, 2021 10:35 PM

Lily Collins stinks in this.

by Anonymousreply 111December 30, 2021 10:42 PM

If you can watch this without cringing and feeling embarrassed by your viewing choice, go for it. I felt the same way about "Bridgerton."

by Anonymousreply 112December 30, 2021 11:05 PM

The first season was graded on the COVID curve.

by Anonymousreply 113December 31, 2021 1:47 AM

R102, Phillipe Leroy is HAF in Jacques Becker's LE TROU (60). On the Criterion Channel. He's shirtless for most of this classic prison escape flick. He's also busting out of his tight suit in Godard's UNE FEMME MARIEE (64).

His 58 year-old daughter's hard bikini body is obviously partly genetic.

by Anonymousreply 114December 31, 2021 7:54 PM

Lucas Bravo is gorgeous..though he did put on weight he actually quite pear shaped. Alas nobody is perfect

by Anonymousreply 115December 31, 2021 8:16 PM

Actually r115 Lucas Bravo is perfect so get your damn eyes checked.

by Anonymousreply 116December 31, 2021 8:49 PM

I was more attracted to Gabriel this time around than the first season, so that bit of extra weight and change of hairstyle really worked for him, I thought.

by Anonymousreply 117December 31, 2021 9:15 PM

he definitely put on weight.

by Anonymousreply 118December 31, 2021 9:29 PM

Lucas put on good weight not Chrissy Metz weight.

by Anonymousreply 119January 1, 2022 3:43 AM

I loved it. Lilly looks like she got that weird eyebrow transplant surgery like Chrissie Teigen. It was also awkward to watch her try and coo over food. I laughed when Sylvie thought someone puked when she smelled the pizza

by Anonymousreply 120January 2, 2022 4:18 PM

I binged all of season 2 yesterday and loved it. Alfie is adorable. I hope we get a third season.

by Anonymousreply 121January 2, 2022 4:31 PM

I watched it all in one sitting too.

by Anonymousreply 122January 2, 2022 4:33 PM

Emily Instagrams French food. She doesn't actually ever eat it.

That's how she maintains her "gap de thigh."

by Anonymousreply 123January 2, 2022 6:26 PM

There was some interview with Lily Collins about Emily in Paris on YouTube I passed the other day. She had one of those heavy fringes cut and her hair out, and she looked really good, it was a great look for her.

Ukraine’s culture minister reached out to Netflix angry

I was prepared to defend Ukrainians, but then I remembered how on a trip to Kiev, I figured out the free bottles of water were filled with tap water (the safety seal was broken on all of them).

by Anonymousreply 126January 3, 2022 7:32 AM

How does he feel about the Ukrainian money grubbing whores looking for a green card on 90 Day Fiancé? Do they make him proud?

by Anonymousreply 127January 4, 2022 3:19 AM

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu is good in comedies, the most famous one is Neuf mois, where she is a pregnant woman whose husband loose his shit during the pregnancy. There did and english version with Hugh Grant: Nine months.

by Anonymousreply 128January 4, 2022 5:35 AM

I hope Kim Cattrall is recruited for Season 3.

by Anonymousreply 129January 4, 2022 5:42 AM

I've personally never heard of the stereotype of Ukrainian = thief. I work with a Ukrainian woman, wouldn't have even crossed my mind. The stereotype I have heard involves husband searching. So maybe the writers didn't have anything in mind except what they thought would be a funny scene of Emily choosing the wrong partner in French class?

by Anonymousreply 130January 4, 2022 6:25 PM

What do y'all predict for Season 3?

by Anonymousreply 131January 8, 2022 8:48 PM

Well, if season 3 comes back then it will have to be because Emily said yes to working with Sylvie etc, I assume. And if the Gabriel thing continues, now that Camille knows what happened, I'm guessing there'll be more hostility between the two of them now that Camille and Gabriel are back together.

by Anonymousreply 132January 8, 2022 8:54 PM

I could see Emily trying to fix things between Madeline and Sylvie as a double agent with her own agenda. Always the "can't we get along?" goody two shoes.

Renewed for two more seasons!

by Anonymousreply 134January 10, 2022 5:02 PM

The sad thing is, unless Emily matures drastically, her schtick isn't sustainable for 2 more seasons....especially in the age of COVID.

by Anonymousreply 135January 10, 2022 5:57 PM

Thanks, R134. The plot is weak, but I find the show to be a fun and fluffy, which is what I need right now. Looking forward to seasons three and four.

by Anonymousreply 136January 10, 2022 6:09 PM

The shows main audience is women, mostly young women. Mostly young white women.

How about Emily in London? Give us a change of scenery and new characters.

How about Emily in Syria...her Algerian boyfriend turns out to be a terrorist and dupes her into joining him in his quest to join IS.

by Anonymousreply 140January 11, 2022 2:05 PM

Emily in Syria. Her Algerian boyfriend turns out to be a terrorist and he makes her wear a chic vintage harness in cerise colored silk packed with the latest trending explosive. Hilarity ensues when she goes to a gallery opening and explodes killing le tout Paris.

by Anonymousreply 141January 11, 2022 6:09 PM

"I'm here to bring an American perspective to the terrorist way. Fake it, til you make it!"

by Anonymousreply 142January 11, 2022 6:28 PM

Emily's final words as her suicide vest goes off: "La Plouc!"

by Anonymousreply 143January 11, 2022 6:31 PM

"Emilie in Lille." Emilie, overweight and plain, has a dreary life working in a supermarket in a damp ugly city, where it rains all the time. She is raising four kids by four different men. On the job, she fantasizes about being a thin young privileged American who has a dream job, unlimited fashion outfits, and stylish apartment in Paris.

by Anonymousreply 144January 11, 2022 6:56 PM

I'm so ashamed right now. I'm only 3 episodes into season 2 and I'm loving this stupid show. Lilly Collins is gorgeous...even if her character is an annoying little cunt.

by Anonymousreply 145January 21, 2022 9:23 PM

R145 t's a charming time waster. Nothing wrong with that.

by Anonymousreply 146January 21, 2022 9:26 PM

The actress who plays Emily’s boss does a terrific job — she’s quite the scene-stealer!

And her father was a hottie in his heyday!

To be clear, I meant Sylvie, Emily’s French boss!

by Anonymousreply 148January 21, 2022 9:36 PM

Love Sylvie!

by Anonymousreply 149January 21, 2022 9:39 PM

R147, nobody thought you were talking about Kate Walsh (whose character supposedly got pregnant at 60). I'm glad her role was basically a cameo.

by Anonymousreply 150January 21, 2022 9:53 PM

Is this a remake of That Girl only where Emily puts out where Marlo Thomas didn't?

by Anonymousreply 151January 21, 2022 11:44 PM

LOL, R150, just wanted to be sure!

by Anonymousreply 152January 22, 2022 12:22 AM

[quote] I'm glad her role was basically a cameo.

By the end of season two it's more than just a cameo, though.

by Anonymousreply 153January 22, 2022 4:45 AM

I wonder if she'll be back for season 3? Competing against the new company Sylvie and the others are setting up? She's meant to be having a baby, so in real life I doubt she'd get on that plane at all but I can imagine in Emily in Paris-land her waters breaking in Paris.

by Anonymousreply 154January 22, 2022 4:57 AM

This guy has created a really fun video based on what was probably my favourite scene of season 2. This is a really good idea for French students!

Just finished this. It isn’t great, but it’s entertaining. I actually liked S2 much more than S1. I think they can completely get rid of Madeline and the American connection. It’s sort of confusing anyway. At first it seemed Emily was their boss with sending them the manifesto, but then Sylvie fired her. A clear definition of her role is better. Funniest moments of the show is the letter and when she found out she fucked the 17 yr old brother. One issue I have is that they don’t flesh much out. Like more development with Gabriel would’ve made their love more believable. It’s pretty cold what they did to Camille. They mentioned after the fact in passing that they dated for 5 yrs, that’s a long relationship to coldly discard.

As for LC, the perkiness is annoying and they really need to change her styling. Her hair and make up is the same in every ep. I also despise her clothes. I’m sorry but the quirkiness doesn’t work. Sylvie dresses way better. The men are all gorgeous and as far as them all going for her... I agree with the poster who said it could be her Americanness. I had an Asian American friend who crushed on white pretty boys who were never interested. She moved to Amsterdam and a whole new world opened up with a bunch of tall, hot blondes chasing after her (she also had a fling with a Englishman).

One thing learned from this show, the French mostly don’t do AC. Never knew that.

by Anonymousreply 156May 22, 2022 2:36 AM

When are they going to announce Kim Cattrall’s stint on the show?

by Anonymousreply 157May 22, 2022 5:43 PM

R115 it means gay
