Dr. Fauci says that RFK Jr. is "a very disturbed individual"

Dr. Anthony Fauci says he and his family continue to receive death threats amid inflammatory statements made by critics including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent anti-vaxxer whose new book is filled with wild claims attacking the nation’s top infectious disease expert.

“It’s very unfortunate because I don’t think he is inherently malicious,” Fauci said of Kennedy in a wide-ranging interview with Yahoo News on Tuesday. “I just think he’s a very disturbed individual.”

The former environmental lawyer’s book, “The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health,” was published last month.

“It’s a shame because he comes from such an extraordinarily distinguished family, many members of whom I know personally,” Fauci continued. “I was very close to Sen. Ted Kennedy, who was such an extraordinary person and a real warrior for public health and to have RFK Jr. just spouting things that make absolutely no sense ... I’m so sorry that he’s doing that.”

Fauci added: “Not just because he’s attacking me — that seems to be the rage among some people — but because ultimately it is going to hurt people.”

His comments came a day after Fox News host Jesse Watters encouraged attendees at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference to “ambush” Fauci with questions about the National Institutes of Health’s alleged funding of “gain-of-function” research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China.

“Now you go in for the kill shot,” Watters said. “The kill shot? With an ambush? Deadly. Because he doesn’t see it coming.”

Fauci told Yahoo News that such statements are often followed by death threats.

“It even gets accelerated when you have the inflammatory statements that are made, [by] people like RFK Jr. and some of the Fox media personalities,” Fauci said, adding that he finds it “strange that they go unchecked with no consequences for people to say that.”

“And when they do that publicly, that’s when I get more death threats and people harass me, my wife and my children,” he added.

“The only thing I’ve ever said or done is to encourage people to get vaccinated, to wear a mask and to do things that would be good for their health, the health of their family and the health of the community,” he said. “So to get villainized because of that is a sad testimony on our society.”

Fauci was also asked whether he believes former President Donald Trump has the power to change minds among his supporters who refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“I would think so, because of so many followers that he has — people who hang on his every word,” Fauci said.

In a live interview with Bill O’Reilly on Sunday, Trump revealed that he received a COVID-19 booster shot after previously saying he was not going to get the additional dose — and was booed by a smattering of those in attendance.

“One of the things that surprised me is that when he publicly made that statement, he was actually booed by his followers,” Fauci said. “Which tells me that the depth of the divisiveness in society, where people are so intent on not doing something almost for ideological reasons, without dropping back and taking a look at the big picture — that it’s for one’s own good to protect one’s self, to protect one’s family, but also for your communal responsibility to not allow this virus to run rampant through society.

“So I was pleased that the former president said publicly that he was vaccinated and boosted,” Fauci added. “I was dismayed that even his own followers booed him. It was rather disturbing to see that.”

I haven't read it in years, but I remember that book "The Other Mrs Kennedy" painted a picture of a household that was complete chaos for those kids growing up. Maybe the younger kids fared better, but the older ones like RFJ Jr. and David were very neglected.

His upbringing did not prepare him for the real world or allow him to develop normally.

by Anonymousreply 12December 22, 2021 1:11 AM

RFK Jr has been crazy for years. He was an anti vax guy before Covid.,He believes Venezuela is a socialist paradise. He probably believes 9/11 was an inside job. Just batshit.

“I thought I understood what was going on from an insider POV. But this is mind-blowing. Anthony Fauci is playing precisely the strategy that he developed and tested during the HIV days. Bobby is on fire in this manuscript. The depth of information and facts, all carefully cited, is mind-blowing. It is a must-read. I think it will really help clarify what has been going down here. Thanks to the consistently dysfunctional COVID-19 response by Fauci and USG/HHS (US Government Health and Human Services Department), we have all become familiar with the terms "regulatory capture" and "Noble Lie." The personal opinion and bias of Dr. Fauci has been repeatedly substituted for evidence-based medicine, and we are all living with the consequences. But beyond this mundane incompetence, what this book clearly documents are the deeper forces and systemic, pervasive governmental corruption, which have led us to this point. Not since the reign of former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, have we seen such empire building by a corrupt, longstanding federal employee who is long past retirement age. Dr. Fauci's apparent need to bolster a fragile ego has led to the almost complete systemic corruption of not only US HHS, but the entire world public health system. The consequences will be lasting damage to the reputation of the United States of America, US FDA, and US CDC as honest, independent guardians of public health, which has been carefully nurtured over many decades. The world is now able to clearly see that the US HHS has been captured and compromised by commercial interests. One unintended consequence of allowing and enabling this tragedy will be further erosion in domestic trust in the Public Health System, and in particular, in the entire vaccine enterprise. Global impacts are likely to include accelerating loss of trust in US and western pharmaceutical companies and regulators, and more rapid rise of Asian, Indian, and Middle Eastern pharmaceutical competitors."

Robert W. Fauci is one of the most powerful people in the world, certainly more influential than the president of the United States. Yet, time and time again, whenever he receives an ounce of criticism, which is entirely justified, he goes on the attack. Fuck him and all the billionaire cry babies for whom that level of power and privilege is still not enough.

by Anonymousreply 24December 23, 2021 1:51 AM

Fauci has said that critiquing him is the same as critiquing science. That's not how science works. This coming from the man who was wrong about projected Covid deaths, travel bans, masks, herd immunity, and his own conflicts of interest. He wasn't simply making prognostications based on the science as his own emails reveal that he deliberately misled the public. If were to give him the benefit of the doubt about what he knew and when, then why did he keep trying to crush any debate about the science when there was even the slightest possibility that he could have been wrong? Thousands of nursing home patients died needlessly because they were denied monoclonal antibodies which had already received FDA approval. If you're public stance is to save as many lives as possible, to the point where you are promoting mass vaccination of children, then why deny medical treatments that could even slightly improve the mortality rate?

by Anonymousreply 54December 23, 2021 6:10 PM

[quote] 1,000 RALLY FOR MORE VIGOROUS AIDS EFFORT

About 1,000 AIDS activists massed yesterday at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, demonstrating for more than four hours for increased testing of new drugs and more attention to women, children, minorities and intravenous drug users with AIDS.

Police arrested 82 protesters, including 21 who staged a sit-in at the Rockville office of a top-ranking NIH official and refused to leave when ordered. More than 200 police officers wearing gloves and riot helmets barred the crowds from entering several buildings on the NIH campus off Rockville Pike. No serious injuries or property damage was reported by authorities during the noisy but peaceful demonstration.

Carrying placards that read "We're Fired Up" and "Red Tape Kills Us," marchers walked from the Bethesda Medical Center Metro stop toward the main NIH administration building about 7:30 a.m. As curious workers stared down from windows, the protesters performed skits, erected a mock graveyard and chanted "Storm the NIH" and "Shame, Shame, We Die, They Do Nothing."

"We want NIH to know we don't want AIDS research to be business as usual," said Matthew Burns, spokesman for ACT-UP, a national AIDS advocacy group based in New York that organized yesterday's demonstration. "The government must test other drugs besides AZT."

At a news conference after yesterday's demonstration, NIH officials criticized ACT-UP and its complaints against the agency. "We deeply sympathize with the pain, fears and frustration of the demonstrators," said William F. Raub, acting director of NIH. "But they are sadly misinformed about NIH actions."

Yesterday's protest was the latest in an increasingly emotional effort by AIDS activists to influence the way in which AIDS drugs are researched, tested and approved by the federal government. Despite recent successes, such as securing AIDS patients access to experimental drugs before safety and efficacy tests are completed, many AIDS groups remain unhappy with the government's current strategy.

Last week, a coalition of 25 national AIDS and health organizations called for increased NIH research funding and more development of drugs to treat opportunistic infections and diseases that inflict AIDS sufferers.

Nearly 10 percent of NIH's $7.9 billion budget is spent on AIDS research, which has made unprecedented progress in fighting the disease, said Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, the AIDS research arm at NIH.

Fauci called yesterday's protest an inconvenience that could undermine the morale of federal AIDS researchers. "It was interesting theater," Fauci said of the march, "but it was not helpful."

Institute officials said the reason more experimental drugs for treating the AIDS virus are not being tested is that very few promising antiviral drugs have emerged from clinical research.

But Jim Jensen, who has been diagnosed as HIV-positive, said research must be stepped up. "We're at the same level we were five years ago," said Jensen, who had a portable intravenous unit. Jensen said he was accepted recently for a three-week experimental AIDS testing program at NIH.

New York resident Kate Tosswill, whose face was wrapped in surgical gauze, said 12,000 "invisible" women are dying of AIDS. "Women are being ignored by the medical community," said Tosswill. "Women get different diseases from AIDS than children or others."

AIDS sufferers in rural communities in the Midwest and South are being ignored in experimental drug tests, marchers said. "People in Kansas are dying of AIDS and no one is doing anything," said Ruth Lichtwandt of Lawrence, Kan.

"The big cities are getting most of the money and research grants," said Orlando resident Alfredo Martinez-Garcia. "Little places are left out in the cold."

For those of you with barely working brains, it is possible for both things to be true: 1) that Fauci is an egoist who loves being on tv; and 2) he has generally been correct about everything so far. Sort of like how you have to assume anyone who runs for and/or wins the election for President has a huge ego.

by Anonymousreply 59December 23, 2021 6:28 PM

There are so many examples of patients who were refused medical treatment and later died, many of who were either severely immunocompromised or not eligible for the vaccine. That's inexcusable. Fauci, also, has said nothing about insufficient safety protocols when administering the vaccine that's specific to the US, how certain populations remain at much higher risk to the existence of comorbidities, and how certain treatments can be combined to treat Covid symptoms.

by Anonymousreply 60December 23, 2021 6:33 PM

Liberals have always been skeptical of big business and big pharma. Nothing new or controversial there. I don't necessarily buy into the fact that vaccines have led to an increase in cancer as well as other physical and cognitive disabilities. He's absolutely right about how the lack of medical interventions, especially during the peak of the pandemic, has led to countless deaths.

by Anonymousreply 65December 24, 2021 5:22 PM

R58 Interesting that it was gay men who were advocating for more experimental treatments back then. However, those treatments were not profitable. America has failed with Covid. The cases and deaths have more than doubled in the past year. That will be a big part of the next elections.

United States Covid Stats

01/03/2021 = 20,630,543 cases and 351,453 deaths

01/03/2022 = 55,651,537 cases and 826,783 deaths

by Anonymousreply 89January 3, 2022 10:44 PM

[quote]No, you stupid fucking retard. If America has failed two years in a row, it's because of dumbfuck deplorables like yourself.

No you're wrong. Stop acting like a child. No other country has handled Covid as badly as America has. THAT'S A FACT. America has almost twice the rate of Covid cases and TWICE the deaths from Covid compared to a third world country like India who has a population 4 TIMES GREATER THAN AMERICA. Jesus Christ, America is a failure. We have wasted millions of doses of the vaccines and trillions of dollars and we are still the biggest losers in the entire world when it comes to Covid. THAT'S A FACT.

And I do realize it's mostly the fault of these crazy republicans, but the dems can't even get that message across. There are other things Biden could have done. But he and Fauci keep doing the "same old, same old" and expecting a different result. Keeping polarizing Fauci around didn't help at all. Fauci is a famewhore who constantly gives interviews and he'll say one thing and have to take it back a week later. I understand that circumstances changed, but the average idiot at home can't understand that.

Everything I've said is 100% true. You can't counter any of this. It's true. So you act like a 10 year old and call me names. Grow up. The Covid stats don't lie. And this will be one of the main issues during the next election.

by Anonymousreply 91January 4, 2022 3:20 AM

Dr. Fauci is the most powerful man in the world yet he is constantly playing the victim or framing any attack against him as an attack on science. Let's be clear that Dr. Fauci and his family are very well protected and will be just fine.

Having said that, it's totally fair to criticize him as he has been leading our public health for the past 2 years now. At that time, he has said that masks were dangerous because of people constantly fiddling with them. Then, he said we should wear masks and that he lied to protect front line workers during a supply crisis. No, he deliberately misled the public. Meanwhile, CDC officials declared that cloth masks do very little to protect oneself although they are better than nothing. Yet Dr. Fauci did not condemn the protests during the peak of the pandemic where there wasn't any social distancing. OK...

Then Fauci continually revised the number of people who needed to get vaccinated in order to achieve so called herd immunity. Well, as it turns out, being fully vaccinated does not fully protect you from getting the virus or spreading it to others. So much for herd immunity. If the Biden administration really cared about herd immunity, they would enforce border restrictions, as the vast majority of those entering the country illegally are unvaccinated. But no, the same Fauci who opposed travel bans when it would have made a difference, is now in favor of domestic travel restrictions. Funny how that happened.

Fauci also deemed certain treatments unsafe despite evidence that shows that they often can reduce symptoms and lower the rate of transmission. At worst, some of these treatments show minimal efficacy, yet none of them have been shown to be unsafe in the decades since they have been available and when taking the recommended dose. Now that widespread prevention is not possible, you would think that the best decision regarding public health was to approve medical interventions particularly for those with known health complications. Likewise, outpatients who displayed symptoms should have been recommended several treatment options since that was the best hope for mitigating illness and spread. However, just like in the 80s with AIDS patients, you've had vulnerable populations denied potentially effective treatments because they interfered with Fauci's vaccine only approach, a beguiling decision since many of those patients who are most at risk are fully vaccinated.

Of course, Fauci is also responsible for indirectly funding gain of function research, and deliberately misleading the public. The vaccine may be effective as an emergency measure, but the cost of denying life saving treatments is substantial. Fauci also was silent on natural immunity, a decision that had enormous ramifications in the prioritization of vaccine distribution. Those with previous immunity who had one vaccine shot were just as safe as those who had a second dose, but public policy did not change to reflect this. Instead, populations who opted out of a second dose were penalized. Likewise, the safety and efficacy of booster shots, particularly among the young, remain in question.

So all in all, I don't believe history will be kind to Dr. Fauci.

by Anonymousreply 92January 4, 2022 3:29 AM

A leopard doesn't change its spots. Fauci was no hero during AIDS. He's a complex operator who serves big money. Typical powerful American. Capitalism first.

by Anonymousreply 93January 4, 2022 3:55 AM

History has a way of repeating itself.

by Anonymousreply 94January 4, 2022 3:58 AM

R92 Rand Paul, you're on the DL now?

by Anonymousreply 95January 4, 2022 4:13 AM

Fauchi the "American Hero" who fostered AZT on so many of my dead friends.

by Anonymousreply 96January 4, 2022 4:25 AM

do you mean "foist on" or "force on", dear? Surely not "foster on"

by Anonymousreply 97January 4, 2022 4:34 AM

What the fuck is this thread?

by Anonymousreply 98January 4, 2022 4:43 AM

^^^ It's bedlam in here. The patients are running the asylum.

by Anonymousreply 99January 4, 2022 5:06 AM

r96 I can relate as I also had dear friends and relatives murdered in the 80's and 90's by this AZT-pushing psychopath for a "virus" he, nor anyone, else ever isolated. We're speaking about one of the most evil men in human history... and the COVID zombies think he's a God.

by Anonymousreply 100January 4, 2022 7:10 AM

Yesterday America broke a record with approximately 1,061,722 new Covid cases in 1 day

by Anonymousreply 101January 4, 2022 10:03 AM

R101 Couldn’t we say that amounts to a lot of immunity? If there’s any kind of bright side, let’s look on it.

by Anonymousreply 102January 4, 2022 11:12 AM

If Fauci was replaced the loons would just give the replacement a hard time.

by Anonymousreply 103January 4, 2022 12:40 PM

Some (or is it the same poster?!) of you here are like the arsonist complaining about fire deaths.

R83 Not a Fauci fan, but Rogan is"GOOP for men".

by Anonymousreply 107January 4, 2022 3:30 PM

Let's replace Fauci with the Trumps, ALL of them. Then who are you going to blame Deplorables?

by Anonymousreply 108January 4, 2022 3:31 PM

[quote]If Fauci was replaced the loons would just give the replacement a hard time.

you're so right. Let's just leave things the way they are. Here's to breaking more Covid records and reaching 2 million cases a day

America - We're #1 for failure

We're pissed away the most money. trillions upon trillions upon trillions

We've had more Covid deaths than most of Asia, Europe and a few South American countries COMBINED

We've set back the science community for probably 2 decades

We've ruined our economy

We've allowed our country to become the biggest laughingstock and embarrassment in the entire world

More importantly, we've allowed Covid to divide our already broken country even more. The dems have already lost the house, the senate and the White House. There's no fucking way on earth Biden or any other democrat will be elected president.

So fuck yeah, let's keep Fauci.

R110 needs to look up "fascism" in the dictionary.

by Anonymousreply 111January 4, 2022 6:29 PM

Fauci wants people to have "papers" and "documentation" in order to eat at restaurants and fly on airplanes.

That's not only FASCISM, but it's also NAZISM.

"Papers, please!!!!!"

FAUCI IS NOT, WAS NOT PRESIDENT

You demented loon

by Anonymousreply 115January 4, 2022 7:15 PM

R115 It doesn't matter. Biden promised he would course correct from the previous administration yet admitted to speaking more to Fauci than his own wife despite Fauci's track record. And unsurprisingly, 2021 ended up being even worse than 2020.

by Anonymousreply 116January 4, 2022 7:34 PM

R109 And during all of it the 1% became astronomically richer.

But why would anyone question this?

by Anonymousreply 117January 4, 2022 11:51 PM

2021 ended up worse because Trump cast the die in 2020. He spent the entire year railing against restrictions and calling COVID a hoax, and his supporters ate it up.

Fuck him, and fuck YOU, r116.

by Anonymousreply 118January 5, 2022 7:07 AM

Where is Kennedy’s wife, Cheryl Hines, in all this? She would’ve had to have gotten vaxxed to appear in the season of Curb that just ended. And then there was this weirdness:

by Anonymousreply 121January 6, 2022 3:58 AM

Let's face it, the "anti Fauci" Trumpers are dumb as dirt. That anyone would believe ANYTHING they spew just shows how stupid America has become.

by Anonymousreply 122January 10, 2022 3:24 PM

I don't think Fauci is above reproach or his critics don't have some valid points, but because of his pedigree & background, RFK Jr. largel gets a pass from the mainstream media for the crazy & divisive things he says & does. I have no problem with any high profile person, particularly the person who is the object of RFK's craziness, calling him exactly what he is. I just hope RFK becomes a pariah with all those limo liberals hanging around the Cape, because without the family gravitas (or what's left of it), RFK is just another loony banned from social media for his BS

by Anonymousreply 123January 10, 2022 3:50 PM

Fauci...this mass murdering psychopath has killed millions worldwide with his "coronavirus", though the gain of function research that he has funded, through the mRNA "vaccines" that he has funded, and through the Remdesivir poisoning, which he in part funded also.

Just get this subhuman parasite arrested, he can give all of his interviews then from jail.

by Anonymousreply 130January 24, 2022 2:58 PM

In Jr's demented mind, Fauci's the criminal, Sirhan's not.

by Anonymousreply 131January 24, 2022 3:21 PM

Well, RFK Jr sure screwed the pooch yesterday. He's a card-carrying member of Q. Maybe he IS Q. As people on twitter pointed out, it's funny the Q people are waiting for JFK Jr when RFK Jr is already there.

by Anonymousreply 132January 24, 2022 6:17 PM

r132 bless your heart if you haven't figured out that Q is a psyop.

by Anonymousreply 134January 24, 2022 6:22 PM

I wish disruptive and famewhoring old man would go away. He’s lost all credibility. The admiration I had for him two years ago has been completely replaced by nothing but disdain for and mistrust in him.

You probably won’t be surprised that QAaron Rodgers follows RFK Jr. on IG.

by Anonymousreply 137January 24, 2022 10:53 PM
