SNL will have no live audience tonight due to Covid

Does SNL have any audience? It's no longer 1976

More details.
The Post has learned that “Saturday Night Live” was on the verge of canceling tonight’s final episode of the iconic sketch show’s 2021 season.
A set insider has revealed that “four actors” have tested positive for coronavirus — and “three others” have called out because they are now “fearful” about coming to NBC Studios at 30 Rockefeller Center, where the weekly sketch show is filmed in Midtown.
Another insider claimed that executive producer Lorne Michaels had tested positive, adding that the “show must go on but don’t expect to see Colin Jost, Sarah Sherman or (Aristotle) Athari.” Jost usually hosts “Weekend Update” with Michael Che, while Sherman and Athari are both newcomers to the ensemble this season.
A source also told The Post that Cecily Strong is one of the cast members who has voiced concern over the outbreak.
A tipster said the cast and crew were currently in rehearsals at Studio 8H for the episode — set to be hosted by Paul Rudd, 52, with musical guest Charli XCX, 29 — on Saturday afternoon, adding that “you know who” — meaning Michaels — was “trying to hold on” and continue with the show.
The not-ready-for-primetime outbreak comes as a string of Broadway shows — including “Company,” “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” “Hamilton,” “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Ain’t Too Proud,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Tina – The Tina Turner Musical” and “Freestyle Love Supreme” — have all temporarily shut down this past week due to COVID concerns.
The Radio City Rockettes — just around the corner at Radio City Music Hall on Sixth Avenue — also cut their season short on Friday after an outbreak.

Charli xcx is still a thing? For that matter, SNL is still a thing?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 18, 2021 9:53 PM |
r3 Typically, SNL does a dress rehearsal show, complete with a live audience, on Saturdays at 6 p.m. Then, they break for dinner during which time Lorne and others may decide to kill a sketch or two before they peform the broadcast show at 11:30 p.m.
They always tape the dress rehearsal in case something happens that prevents them from doing the 11:30 p.m. show. They would also switch to the dress rehearsal tape in case something happens in the middle of preforming the 11:30 show.

<- that happened when I fell through the floorboards.

So wait, whose decision was it exactly? Did she choose to cancel due to limited crew or did the producers say she couldn't perform?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 18, 2021 10:12 PM |
Maybe they could get Ke$ha or Iggy Azalea? Either would be available on short notice for minimal pay.

Since SNL now has a cast of about 50, their absences shouldn't be very noticeable.

R15, have they all pulled out of tonight's show?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 18, 2021 10:18 PM |
Now that Charli is out, I wonder if they'll just run a clip of a past musical performance or just skip it altogether?

They should play clips of the worst musical guests ever.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 18, 2021 10:21 PM |
If several cast members and the musical guest have all pulled out of tonight's show because of COVID, why not just cancel it and air a repeat? Is the unfunny game show sketch they undoubtedly have planned for tonight worth risking everyone's life and health?

Taylor Swift, Superspreader
An urgent health warning has been issued for a Taylor Swift album party in Sydney with 97 attendees testing positive to the virus, as officials desperately try to contact all 600 fans.
Vision from the event shows crowds of hundreds of mostly young girls packed in like sardines as they danced and sang to the songstress' famous lyrics - all naturally without a mask.
In a statement, NSW Health said anyone who attended the 'On Repeat: Taylor Swift Red Party' at the Metro Theatre on George St from 9pm last Friday is a close contact.
Attendees must immediately get tested and isolate for seven days. All household contacts must also get tested and self-isolate until a negative result is received.

Too many of us are thinking we’re back to March 2020. We’re not. And we have reason to believe those who are fully vaccinated & boosted - especially those who are not aged and/or immunocompromised - are not at risk of serious illness requiring hospitalization.

Listen, if you aren't vaccinated yet, get vaccinated now! My job involves me with a network of ICUs in another state, and FYI what we're seeing is that 99% of the ICU COVID patients are unvaccinated... and that the only exceptions are people with something seriously compromising their immune system - cancer or immosuppresant therapy. Vaccinations may not keep you from getting sick, but they'll keep you from being so sick you need to be in the ICU, or so sick you'll die.

Because they never said that. Harris should she would take the vaccine once Dr. Fauci said it was safe and effective to do so. She encouraged people not to listen to Donald Trump, a known liar. All correct advice.

And, should you not be aware, the largest group of unvaccinated people per capita, is African-American. I am sure you're aware that blacks are overwhelming Democrat (God only knows why). They were NOT listening to Trump, they were listening to Biden and Harris.

Blacks have the highest rates of morbidity and mortality from preventable diseases of ALL types, so it’s not surprising to anyone in public health that they also have low vaccination rates and high death rates from Covid. It has nothing to do with their political affiliation.

The current rates of vaccination are 77% for Asian-Americans, 58% for whites, 56% for Hispanics, and 51% for blacks. There isn't that much difference between the rates for whites, Hispanics and blacks, and the gap is narrowing. The group of people with the lowest rate of vaccination is Republicans.

Who exactly are we protecting by canceling shows and so on? At this point, aren't adults who want a vaccination vaccinated? And aren't kids unable to get Covid with the vaccination just being thought of as a nice to have for them and not a must-hace? So why cancel things and why wear masks at this point? I'm vaccinated and boosted. I dont care if the willingly unvaccinated die; in fact, I hope they do because they're the reason so much awful is going on. Let them get it and let them suffer and die. The rest of us have done our part, getting the shots, wearing the masks, and changing our lives. Fuck them. English, please. Kids get sick and die from COVID too. Next?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was on the part of the millennial cast—some of whom didn't show up for the Elon Musk show and thought they were taking some sort of principled stand.
It says a lot that Tina Fey showed up to fill in. She could have been exposed to COVID; she has two kids at home. She was done with this shit years ago. Why should she bother? Because she's a pro.
And why did Tom Hanks—who is a diabetic senior citizen—show up for the broadcast but not the young and (one presumes) healthy cast?
by Anonymous | reply 92 | December 19, 2021 5:47 AM |
We're treating immunocompromised folks in this Covid situation as if they're brainless. Common sense would indicate they would and should continue to follow the practices they have in the past, e.g. for avoiding other illnesses from which they may be unable to be vaccinated such as the measles, pumps, polio, the shingles, etc., when being vigilant about avoiding Covid-infection situations. I'm not going to wear a mask for 78 more years because the rest of the world includes people who are not vaxxed against Covid. Taking personal responsibility works both ways, not just for the Covid vaxxed.

Biden is slammed for waiting till TUESDAY to announce new COVID measures as Omicron cases double over 24 HOURS: White House scrambles after Harris admission they 'did not see variant coming'
President Joe Biden was criticized for deciding to wait until Tuesday to announce new Covid measures to fight the rapidly-spreading Omicron variant as cases double in the past 24 hours
The speech will build on his 'Winter Plan' and address booster shots, lockdowns and mask mandates
It comes after Kamala Harris admitted the administration was not properly prepared for the variant and appeared to blame scientists before the White House went into damage control to spin the claims
Health officials have also advised the president to focus on severe cases rather than overall infections and publicly about living with the virus as a part of everyday life
President Joe Biden's decision to wait until Tuesday to address his plan to combat the rapidly spreading COVID Omicron variant has been met with incredulity as many criticized his apparent lack of urgency while he spends the weekend in Delaware.
It comes after Vice President Kamala Harris admitted on Friday that the administration was not prepared for the variant as cases doubled over the past 24 hours, with all but six states confirming cases, stoking fears of shutdowns similar to the ones in 2020.
Some have claimed that waiting till next week to outline a plan against Omicron is not a proactive move for a president who famously vowed to 'shut down the virus.'
Mark Knoller, a former CBS White House correspondent, tweeted, 'If the Pres has something urgent to say about Covid, why wait until Tuesday?'
The Omicron surge comes as the White House has been scrambling to contain the fallout from Vice President Kamala Harris's statement on Friday in which she appeared to take a swipe at Biden for not anticipating the Delta and Omicron variants.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times on Friday, Harris appeared to blame scientists for the administration's failure to be better prepared for Omicron and Delta as the new strains threaten to send the country spiraling back to pandemic shutdowns.
'We have not been victorious over it,' Harris said.
'I don't think that in any regard anyone can claim victory when, you know, there are 800,000 people who are dead because of this virus.'
The vice president insisted that the virologists 'upon whose advice and direction we have relied' were blind to the next wave.
An administration official tried to put a positive spin on the vice president's remarks, insisting that she meant that the president and his aides did not foresee the mutations.

There isn't that much difference between the rates for whites, Hispanics and blacks, and the gap is narrowing. The group of people with the lowest rate of vaccination is Republicans.
How deep into your ass did you have to pull that nugget of disinformation? And who the fuck is this KFF website which boldly proclaims "Filling the need for trusted information on national health issues" -- Bwaaahaaaahaaaa. You idiot. R116 - Funny how CNN stopped running the DEATH TICKER for COVID as soon as Biden became President despite the fact that more people have died since then than while Trump was President. I guess that's just not news anymore.

[quote] And who the fuck is this KFF website
KFF is the Kaiser Family Foundation, a well-known, reputable, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that focuses on health care. It has been around since 1948 and often partners with news organizations like the New York Times and Washington Post. I'm surprised you've never heard of it.

For R117, from a paywalled Wash Post story (quoting a paywalled WSJ story), about the real difference in the death tolls under Biden and Trump:
Thus far, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Biden has presided over about 353,000 deaths in a little over 10 months, compared to about 425,000 for Trump in his final 10-plus months. So there have still been fewer deaths under Biden than under Trump, in a similar time period.
The best comparison to my mind, though, is not the raw numbers — which depend upon how bad things are, when waves occur, emerging variants, etc. — but how we compare to the rest of the world. Just as the best comparisons for Trump’s numbers worldwide were per capita and relative, so, too, are Biden’s.
What we can say: Under Biden, we have accounted for a significantly smaller share of worldwide deaths than under Trump.
The 425,000 deaths we saw in Trump’s 10-plus months accounted for nearly 20 percent of all worldwide deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
Since Biden took over, the world as a whole has seen more deaths in his 10 months (3.07 million) than the preceding 10 months (2.14 million), but the United States has seen fewer. In Biden’s 10-plus months, the United States has accounted for less than 12 percent of worldwide deaths, which is down from 19.9 percent under Trump. That’s a decline of more than 40 percent in our proportion of the worldwide death rate.Again, no comparisons are perfect. But if you look at how the virus has spread in similar countries between the two 10-month periods, the United States is generally doing better than it was, relatively speaking. Before Jan. 20, Europe accounted for more than 30 percent of coronavirus deaths; after that date, Europe has accounted for 25.2 percent of deaths. That’s a smaller drop — about 16.5 percent — than we have seen in the United States, even as Europe’s continent-wide vaccination rate is similar.

Umm, did you even look at the data at the CDC site you're linking to? Apparently not.
Going to your link, I discover the following statistics:
93.6% of Asian adults are fully vaccinated
80.3% of white adults are fully vaccinated
78.5% of black adults are fully vaccinated
77.3% of Hispanic/Latino adults are fully vaccinated.
Your own link shows there is very little difference between the vaccination percentage of whites and blacks.
It's official: You're an idiot.

You’re not going to see graves, because NYC is heavily vaccinated… and people who get Omicron will be better in a few days.
Where you’ll see mass graves are in the deplorable states full of obese, unvaccinated Republicans.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | December 19, 2021 1:28 PM |
Only about 15% of US adults are unvaccinated. The numbers are skewered because eligible teens and children are low in vaccination. Unfortunately 15% of 300+ million is a lot of people. Still the unvaxxed get more publicity then they deserve.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | December 19, 2021 1:29 PM |
Biden can take all the time he wants to announce new COVID measures. The boosted never stopped distancing and masking and the unvaccinated are just waiting to see if they die. No change in application. Biden could wait till after New Years and it wouldn't make a difference.

R113 -- did you not notice that the trends reported by CDC very closely parallel those in the Kaiser Family Foundation report? Did you not notice that the KFF REPORT CITES CDC DATA and findings? Did you not surmise that since the numbers in the CDC report differ from KFF, they might be coming from different time frames? Inquiring minds notice these things before losing their shit and posting what's actually CONFIRMING the information in r64.
If only you weren't such an arrogant, nasty, foul cunty motherfucker, you might be able to think clearly and critically before humiliating yourself.
