Another Brick In The Wall: Texas Starts Building Its Own Border Wall
by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 24, 2021 2:37 PM |
Sucks for NM, AZ and CA. Isn't TX the #1 crossing? It's all going to shift over.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 18, 2021 4:56 PM |
Can they build it completely around Texas?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 18, 2021 4:57 PM |
If they feel it's needed, and it might be as Texas seems most impacted by the border situation, why not? ,La's Don't come, don't come doesn't seem to have been an effective deterrent.

R2...You beat me to it.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 18, 2021 5:03 PM |
My fucking tax dollars at “work.”
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 18, 2021 5:03 PM |
As long as I don't have to pay for it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 18, 2021 5:04 PM |
Just need a 10 dollar ladder.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 18, 2021 5:09 PM |
It’s pure political theater, because they can only build it on state-owned land, and they cannot use the materials the federal government already purchased. But I’m glad they’re doing it to keep the issue in the public eye.
There is a 99.9% chance the country is doomed so it’s hard for me to care about anything.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 18, 2021 5:11 PM |
I think there are some areas where a border wall or barrier is needed. The goal is to shift unauthorized migrants to where it's easier for border control to intercept them. A big driver of this migration is the Flores decision, why the various administrations never challenged it is puzzling. Kamala Harris announced earlier this week that several large multi nationals will invest 1.2 billion in creating jobs in Central America. This got little press attention. Bloomberg also had a story several days earlier about surge in building factories in northern Mexico as part of the effort in relocating the supply chain. That will provide many jobs. Bothe conservative and liberal press fail at reporting these developments. It's wither illegal immigrants invading , or these poor people deserve to come into this country, no other point of view or solution is allowed. Talk about sticking with the narrative.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 18, 2021 5:13 PM |
Texas ranks at or near the bottom for a lot of quality of life and health indicators, but sure, spend a ton of money on this instead of prosecuting the corporations that keep hiring illegal immigrants.

Doomed from who? Not Mexicans.
I’ll tell you, Mexicantown (Southwest Detroit) has no crime and it’s spotlessly clean. Detroit, on the other hand, is a war zone. Mexicans are not going to doom our country.

They're not coming for jobs. They're coming for free stuff.

Yeah, I noticed that. I expected an onslaught of R13 types of shitty comments about it online, but no one seemed to even have heard the news.

lol^
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 18, 2021 5:19 PM |
It is. It’s wonderful.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 18, 2021 5:20 PM |
Houston here and I think this is fucking ridiculous and a waste of money. Those walls are routinely tunneled under and breached. The other thing I think about is the ecological impact and what to do about ranches that span both sides of the border. "Hey, sorry, we are putting a wall through your land". Have they addressed that Fucking? Fucking assholes.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 18, 2021 5:20 PM |
R1, wasn't Arizona the leader on anti-immigration back in 2010 or so? They're probably already making plans for building their own wall.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 18, 2021 5:24 PM |
And we all saw the Texas electrical grid have major problems.
Priorities, Abbott ?

True in my town too. NJ. We have a solid Mexican presence mixed in with mostly Italian Americans. It is a great combo.
The Mexicans are hard working, family oriented and they present themselves well. Clean and neat. Children well behaved.
However, I STILL believe we need control of the border.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 18, 2021 5:52 PM |
R10 any links for either of your assertions?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 18, 2021 6:02 PM |
They can try but it won't work.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 18, 2021 6:08 PM |
Not sure why so many on DL are making it about Mexicans. Comma-la was speaking to Guatemalans when she uttered those words, and the focus was on Central America.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 18, 2021 6:10 PM |
If Mexico had built a border wall in 1822 we wouldn't have to put up with Texas at all.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 18, 2021 6:43 PM |
Has Texas officially started actually fixing its power grid, or is Abbot just going to leave Texans to freeze again?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 18, 2021 6:51 PM |
Wait a minute, I thought Trump already built a wall or was that a lie?
How is Texas building a wall on federal land? I read that most of the land that butts up to the federal land is in private hands. Are all these ranchers going to allow Texas to build a wall across their land?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 18, 2021 6:51 PM |
A swept under the rug R26.

They aren't and they can't. Just like Trump's wall, this is a grift.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 18, 2021 6:55 PM |
r27 - it's on state land.
It's about stopping fetanal and other drugs and human trafficking.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 18, 2021 6:57 PM |
R30, yes. It’s probably just a way for Abbott to send money to his big corporate donors.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 18, 2021 6:57 PM |
I CANNOT WAIT for the Texas power grid to go down and kill off more assholes in Texas. Sorry that it's poor people and kids, but collateral damage is the main ingredient of being a Republican!
Don't ever feel sorry for them, as Texas is at the very bottom of voter participation over the last twenty years and Hispanics are famously uninvolved in registering and voting. They're getting the government they deserve and continue to elect, that's how Democracy works, more or less.
If they have priorities other than a wall, let them make their voices heard.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 18, 2021 7:00 PM |
R31 LOL, no it isn't. You can't stop any of that with a "wall." Back to 8chan with you.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 18, 2021 7:02 PM |
BTW I live in a border town and it's beyond safe.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 18, 2021 7:04 PM |
"[R27] - it's on state land. "
What state land is on the border?
Answer: None, it's all federal land and privately held land
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 18, 2021 7:04 PM |
Immigrants should just convert into Islam, Americans would welcome them with open arms.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 18, 2021 7:06 PM |
Abbott is in that wheel chair because an oak tree fell on him... Maybe next time God can find a bigger tree
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 18, 2021 7:09 PM |
Also, how did they never mention rump failed to build his precious wall? Which was one if his selling points? Hypocritical turds.

[quote]It's about stopping fetanal and other drugs and human trafficking.
Well [bold]THANK FUCKING GOD[/bold] the US doesn't ship goods via airplane or boat where fentanyl and humans could be smuggled in.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 18, 2021 7:14 PM |
I guess the abortion ban isn't going over so well.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 18, 2021 7:21 PM |
R37 Abbot claims private land is being "donated" for this purpose. As if the rich fucks who own the choice riverfront and lush green land are going to let him fuck it up with an ugly wall in any significant numbers.
He'll put up a few miles at best on land that is less valuable and likely far from the actual border, and then he'll give it up quietly when shit like this happens and those rich fucks turn on him:
by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 18, 2021 10:18 PM |
So how's he doing on catching all those rapists before they rape? Is he just picking out the darkies or what? I'd like some follow up information on that, please.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 18, 2021 10:33 PM |
Love that retard who claimed migrants aren't coming for jobs, they're coming for free stuff. What free stuff? Our social safety net is shit and everyone knows that. If they were purely interested in being taken care of they would continue north into Canada. Fucking stupid piece shit.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 18, 2021 11:06 PM |
After they completely encircle Texas with their wall, let's put a roof on top.
Leave a hole in the roof though so we can just fill the state with cement.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 18, 2021 11:09 PM |
Oh honey R46, I live in Houston and believe me we don't need help with cement. Greedy developers are knocking down 400 year old oaks for strip malls and pavement.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 19, 2021 4:10 PM |

Economic development professionals in Texas will remember this November for a long time as the month saw announcements for three record-breaking, colossal construction projects. It’s fair to call them “Texas-sized.”
First, Texas Instruments (TI) said it will build a $30 billion semiconductor fabrication plant in Sherman, which is about midway between Dallas and the Oklahoma border (an area often referred to as Texoma).
Next, Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd., announced that it will construct a $17 billion semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor, which is near Austin.
Also, Tesla just revealed that its Gigafactory in Austin – where construction and interior finishing work is underway – revealed that its cost is estimated at $1.1 billion.
The announcements totaling $48.1 billion were announced in only an eight-day period, which may be a record in the world of economic development. I can speak only for myself, but I don’t recall anything of this magnitude occurring in such a short time span in any state.
