Why is heterosexuals the majority in the human population?

I truly wonder about this.

Is it by intelligent design? Did it come about through evolution?

We gay people are outnumbered by something like 90% straight to 10% gay. Not counting "bisexuals."

And does that make us outliers in evolution, and not the default?

When I think about this, it makes me sad. I wish I wasn't in the sexual minority. It sucks.

"Why ARE heterosexuals..."

Stupid me. I started typing out "Why is heterosexuality...." then changed my question.

Before anyone wants to be an asshole about it.

Propagation of the species

by Anonymousreply 2December 17, 2021 11:10 PM

Right, R2.

So does that somehow make us "less than" in the evolution of humanity?

by Anonymousreply 3December 17, 2021 11:11 PM

What's wire hangers doing in this closet when I told you - no wire hangers ever?!

by Anonymousreply 4December 17, 2021 11:12 PM

Well, how do you think the human race would survive if we weren't more likely to fuck the opposite sex? Although, maybe Mother Nature is doing a course correct to protect against overpopulation: did you see that other thread here a few weeks ago that said an astounding percentage (I can't remember off the top of my head), now identify as bi/"queer?"

by Anonymousreply 5December 17, 2021 11:12 PM

Most people are bi

by Anonymousreply 6December 17, 2021 11:20 PM

Well, I don't know (or care) about fish, but there's no such thing as a 'heterosexual man'.

by Anonymousreply 7December 17, 2021 11:20 PM

There are certain species of fish that change sex, based on population counts. Too many, there are more males, too few, vice versa. I believe it’s the same with humans.

by Anonymousreply 8December 17, 2021 11:23 PM

We are not fish R8. All herd animals are male or female. We are a herd animal. We cannot change sex no matter how hard we huff and puff.

by Anonymousreply 9December 17, 2021 11:30 PM

[quote] Well, I don't know (or care) about fish, but there's no such thing as a 'heterosexual man'.

by Anonymousreply 11December 17, 2021 11:49 PM

OP, you're stupid. Glad you're crying and not reproducing.

by Anonymousreply 12December 17, 2021 11:54 PM

What you is is what I is.

by Anonymousreply 13December 17, 2021 11:55 PM

Interesting question OP. If we're creating problems for just about anything and anyone else, maybe heterosexuals will be in the minority one day to prevent us from breeding so much.

What puzzles me is, okay we're the minority, okay we serve some evolutionary purpose and keep popping up, but why do we have sexual desire for each other?

by Anonymousreply 14December 18, 2021 12:06 AM

The the one good thing about all the nonbinary and pansexual idiots...they're really all gay and won't be reproducing.

by Anonymousreply 15December 18, 2021 12:21 AM

IMO homosexuality was nature's design from the beginning of time to help keep the population under control.

by Anonymousreply 17December 18, 2021 12:30 AM

We need all kinds of people to make this world work. Hetero people populate it. Gay people make it better.

by Anonymousreply 18December 18, 2021 12:31 AM

That's true r18. That's our evolutionary purpose and why we aren't simply vestigial. Perhaps it's sexual desire that drives us to attain and excel. Oh have i answered my own r14 question.

by Anonymousreply 19December 18, 2021 12:35 AM

Most animals are heterosexual too. Gays married the opposite sex and had children for centuries. Everyone was expected to get married and procreate until very recently. I think being gay or bi is the same as just being born blonde, blue-eyed or left handed. It's possibly a genetic mutation.

by Anonymousreply 20December 18, 2021 12:36 AM

R18, this is right. The primary directive of any species is to perpetuate itself; therefore, there are heterosexuals as far as the eye can see. But we wouldn’t get anywhere if ALL people did was worry about the cave rats. Someone had to invent the wheel.

by Anonymousreply 21December 18, 2021 12:40 AM

Wouldn't it have just been easier if we were all straight?

by Anonymousreply 22December 18, 2021 12:41 AM

The living thing is Gaia. It is eliminating us to preserve itself.

by Anonymousreply 24December 18, 2021 12:48 AM

OP has an IQ of about 65

by Anonymousreply 25December 18, 2021 12:49 AM

Because us heteros love to procreate.

by Anonymousreply 26December 18, 2021 12:51 AM

Up until a couple hundred years ago people feared there weren't enough people. Disease, war... dangerous, grueling lives made death a constant companion.

That's not a problem anymore, so 'be fruitful and multiply' no longer applies.

by Anonymousreply 27December 18, 2021 1:19 AM

No, we’re not fish r9. But if you think we’re not connected to the natural world, you’re not paying attention.

by Anonymousreply 28December 18, 2021 1:26 AM

I figure it's mother nature who wants to perpetuate the species even though our species is destroying the planet. But I also think the pandemic is mother nature's way of getting rid of us too.

R36 is eagerly awaiting his extinction, post haste, and doesn't understand how a uterus functions even if it hates how it expelled someone like him.

Being rejected and not aborted by parents who didn't want him didn't make him smarter, or more loveable and able to be adopted by his mates' family friends.

He just, sadly, became himself as openly as possible.

That's how shallow, crass men who were functionally unsuccessful with women behave. Meanly and pursuing younger, more naive victims, often selected by family patriarchs. With no fuck's given to multi-genrational victims of physical and sexual abuse.

by Anonymousreply 40December 18, 2021 7:14 AM

OP didn't think this one through before posting.

by Anonymousreply 41December 18, 2021 7:32 AM

A minority reproducing het population is a good idea. We'd treat our women and children better. Like in a hive, most of us would be tasteful drones for decorating the hive, entertaining and doing good things. Then most men would be available, including Bradley Cooper.

by Anonymousreply 42December 18, 2021 10:10 AM

We don't have reliable stats about homo sapien sexuality. I think the 10% number is far too low I know from my work that ancient Native Hawaiians were very cool about homosexuality. Two kings were gay and they lived with their partners. The Brits brought Christianity and their bullshit taboos

I look to studies of our cousin primates to try to get a better understanding of our natural sexuality. They're all whores.

by Anonymousreply 43December 18, 2021 11:32 AM

Heterosexuals are not the majority. Bisexuals are.

The biological need to procreate is inherent. By nature, we’re procreators. Sexuality is a human construct trying to explain this need. Same-sex attraction balances over-procreation, even though gay people can still feel the need to beget crotchfruit. Just fuck whoever you want and forget about why you want to.

by Anonymousreply 63December 18, 2021 12:43 PM

Homosexuality by birth is due to hormones in the womb. Women that experience stress during pregnancy release more homrones than others during resulting in the homosexual child. It’s not a genetic trait. It’s an abnormality, albeit an okay one.

by Anonymousreply 64December 18, 2021 12:45 PM

R63 is a poorly educated sod unfamiliar with the numerous sciences that contribute to the study of evolution. So STFU.

by Anonymousreply 65December 18, 2021 12:51 PM

Because gender and hetero-normative sexuality are social constructs. We are biologically wired to be bi-sexual, not monogamous, and raise children in groups (that's why we are the only species that women live past reproductive age - known as the grandmother theory). Our society has made this impossibly complex social network that blocks our natural tendencies, this is why we are the only species that stopped evolving - our extinction event is upon us anyway, so on to something else.

by Anonymousreply 66December 18, 2021 12:53 PM

R64. Meemaw, get off the computer.

by Anonymousreply 67December 18, 2021 12:54 PM

Homosexuality by birth is due to hormones in the womb. Women that experience stress during pregnancy release more homrones than others during resulting in the homosexual child. It’s not a genetic trait. It’s an abnormality, albeit an okay one.

Thankyou r64, I've read this theory too and believe it to be true although everyone on here rubbishes it. I don't believe homosexuality has anything to do with evolution, or genetics, it's just a quirk of birth.

by Anonymousreply 68December 18, 2021 1:04 PM

[Quote]that's why we are the only species that women live past reproductive age -

This is not true. Our cousin primates both male and female (post reproductive) live into old age. There are plenty of other species that do the same.

by Anonymousreply 69December 18, 2021 1:04 PM

R68 you're hilarious. How's your womb today?

by Anonymousreply 70December 18, 2021 1:15 PM

If it was the opposite, 10% was straight, the worlds population would have a problem

by Anonymousreply 71December 18, 2021 1:17 PM

I'd wager it was homosexual ancient man that created music, song and language. Many scientists believe song predated language.

by Anonymousreply 72December 18, 2021 1:28 PM

r69 you are correct - I should have clarified "primates" - but their not our "cousins" - we only share a common ancestor

by Anonymousreply 73December 18, 2021 2:12 PM

Like it or not other primates are our cousins. We're primates.

by Anonymousreply 74December 18, 2021 2:33 PM

Well I don't know about female olds in the animal kingdom, but we are one of the few species that has sex when the female is not in breeding mode. Whatever is going on with nature, and probably nothing purposeful, what is going on with human sexuality is not sex-to-breed, sex-to-breed, sex-to-breed until you die.

Of course, the hardest thing to grasp about evolution is that it doesn't have some grand and glorious vision leading inevitably to the wonder that is YOU.

by Anonymousreply 75December 18, 2021 2:34 PM

^^ this is incorrect. Many species engage in sex for many reasons.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 76December 18, 2021 2:41 PM

R3 No. There are plenty of examples of same sex coupling among animals. And plenty of examples of asexual reproduction.

by Anonymousreply 77December 18, 2021 2:49 PM

All life prioritizes reproduction. It's as basic an element of life as respiration and eating are.

What's more interesting is sexuality that doesn't result in reproduction. Even Katharine Hepburn believed that homosexuality is natural and evolved to naturally control overpopulation. Very interesting that heterosexuality has been legally enforced in small or intentionally growing populations with high mortality rates, and homosexuality becomes socially normalized among high populations that need to curb population growth for their own goods.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 78December 18, 2021 3:08 PM

This is all very wrong-headed. People looking for purposes and intentions and grand schemes where there are only arbitrary rules or nonrules. It is extremely unlikely that homosexuality serves as population control anywhere as long as heterosexual males are free to breed. You want population control? Put women in charge of all aspects of sexuality and breeding. Saying 90 or 95% of males will go on fucking and breeding, while 5 or maybe 10% of males will only fuck each other is just not going to do much about population. And of course it doesn't really work that way anyway. Quite a few of those who would like to be only-male fuckers will in fact be breeders cause Mom needs grandkids or some shit.

And of course a society that really is all about making babies would be a complete fuckfest anyway, and not have all sorts of shit about only fucking the one a priest said you could fuck, even if one or both of you is barren. All these rules come in for idiotic, generally religious, reasons. Medieval Europe was definitely interested in breeding more kids, but it still managed to sustain a huge cult of celibacy.

by Anonymousreply 79December 18, 2021 3:31 PM

R66 pulled that stupid theory out of his/her back side.

by Anonymousreply 80December 18, 2021 4:22 PM

r66 may be right about some things in some areas, but this whole idea of hard-wired is where it all breaks down. We are not hardwired. We fall into various culture traps and pretend we are hardwired that way. It always reeks of "hey, fellas, I got this all figgered out ..." And come on "reproductive biologist," we've stopped evolving. What the fuck is that nonsense?

by Anonymousreply 81December 18, 2021 4:30 PM

Because heterosexuals are majority among any population, not just the human one. And you definitely know why and how evolution works. It would be weird if we were the only species where majority isn't heterosexual and I would understand if that would shock you. But this?

Also "90% straight to 10% gay"? No. Gay people make maybe 3% of the population, tops. There's not 10% even with bisexuals.

by Anonymousreply 82December 18, 2021 4:42 PM

R6 -Most people are bi - No.

by Anonymousreply 83December 18, 2021 4:43 PM

R6 thinks that gays are going to start fucking women now since "most people are bi."

by Anonymousreply 84December 18, 2021 4:46 PM

Procreation is the driving force behind all life. Even ancient Greek men who were pretty loose sexually were to put aside their male lovers to make babies. For centuries gay men were expected to marry and procreate and they did. Only recently has that changed.

by Anonymousreply 88December 18, 2021 5:01 PM

R74 it's not about "liking it or not" - they don't have the same number of chromosomes - we can't mate with them - that's why I say we aren't cousins - and we have almost nothing in common with chimps, however, we have lots in common with apes.

by Anonymousreply 89December 18, 2021 6:12 PM

R75. It’s that human females are always in heat.

by Anonymousreply 90December 18, 2021 6:14 PM

R89 "we have almost nothing in common with chimps, however, we have lots in common with apes." Chimps are apes, you dummy. And not only are they apes, they are great apes, like us. And out of the great apes they are the closest to us humans. So yeah, we have A LOT in common with chimps. More than with any other living creature. So basically everything you said is wrong.

by Anonymousreply 91December 18, 2021 6:19 PM

They're not, bisexuals are.

by Anonymousreply 92December 18, 2021 6:22 PM

R89 with every post you need to be corrected. You sound interested in the subject but you are poorly informed. Why not study before making false proclomations? Many of these ideas you hold are unfounded.

by Anonymousreply 93December 18, 2021 9:56 PM

Actually, not to shock fraus like r88, but Greek men were not expected to "put aside" their male lovers to have babies. They were free to fuck their wives for baby making and to fuck boys for pleasure. Of course, depending on which Greeks we are talking about. Athenians is usually what we mean by "Greeks."

by Anonymousreply 94December 18, 2021 10:16 PM

And yes, of course fucking is a strong driving force in life. But it is no more the "purpose" of life than eating or sleeping. What a stupid purpose that would be, even if nature had purposes like that.

by Anonymousreply 95December 18, 2021 10:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 97December 18, 2021 11:03 PM

The biggest thing I hate about being gay is that our dating pool is so much smaller than it is for straight people.

Not only that, but since many are afraid to come out as openly gay, our pool shrinks even more because so many are in the closet!

It really fucking sucks.

by Anonymousreply 98December 18, 2021 11:11 PM

well of course age and attractiveness will factor in r98, but I suspect you can find a homo or two in some big cities. Where do you live? If it's a small hyperChristian town can you escape from that nonsense?

by Anonymousreply 99December 19, 2021 12:15 AM

I think it's funny that gay men still go for looks in a male partner. As if you're going to have a baby with the guy. I think that's something hardwired in us.

by Anonymousreply 100December 19, 2021 12:28 AM
