I made the mistake of looking at Thomasville furniture on eBay and now I'm depressed
I had a LOT of the Thomasville Hemingway Collection furniture about 13 years ago and sold it through consignment when I downsized my McMansion into a more modern condo. It was so eclectic and fun. I even had the trophy bar with the molded animal heads. I sold it partially because I didn't want to pay to store it and my new townhome was less than half the size of my house. Plus the pieces were SO heavy, like the armoire, that I was worried about the floors. Thomasville used a mixture of hardwoods and veneers and most of the pieces were all very substantial.
I went on eBay now that I've moved again and was seeing if I could reacquire some of it, and it's almost twice as expensive as it was when I bought it originally! And some of the pieces they have are listed as "RARE", like it's from 50 years ago and not 13! I thought furniture mostly just lost value. If I'd held onto all the pieces I had, I could probably sell them today for $35k.

I knew a guy whose whole bedroom was the Hemingway collection. When I saw it, I thought he was trying to say "I'm overcompensating for my lack of manliness."

It depends on what pieces you had - some of them were ridiculous, with faux animal horns and things, and others were just eclectic and cool. I avoided most of the furniture that looked like you'd just come back from safari, though.
It was actually a pretty big collection, with several distinct styles woven together. Wish they were still making some of them.

I have the Hemingway distressed leather safari chair and ottoman from that collection. It’s fantastic, as was everything in the group. Found mine on eBay a few years ago. It wasn’t cheap though and cross country shipping was somewhat pricey, but I love it. Goes in any setting.

r5 I didn't have that chair and ottoman, but that is certainly something I would have loved to have.
They seemed to rotate some of the collection in and out while it was still being produced, so you couldn't get everything.
I wish I'd bought and kept the Bachelor's Dresser too.

Ralph Lauren had a spectacular line of African safari-inspired furniture and accessories back in the 1990’s. You can still find pieces online. I own the RL Safari bed and have it draped with mosquito netting similar to the attached photo.
You could mix and match with the Hemingway stuff, I think.

Nice, r7, those do look very matchable with the Hemingway pieces.

You've gone without it for years without missing it. Needing to have it because you just found out it costs more than you paid for it originally is not an indication of really needing it.

R11 I've been missing it all along, I was just overwhelmed at the time and trying to get rid of as much stuff as possible to remove the weight from my soul. However, I should have kept some of the pieces, even if it meant putting them in storage.
