Have you ever noticed the godawful lyrics of "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
First of all: probably not, as they most likely aren't Christian.
Written by Midge Ure of the ultradorky Ultravox, but it sounds like maybe one of his kids wrote it.
The gist: as you're digesting your feast and cuddling under mounds of comforters- wrapping paper strewn around- remember the little dark ones, hungry and lying in their own filth, m'kay? And tonight, thank God it's them instead of you!

They lyrics are absolutely cringeworthy, but there are tons and tons of Christians in Africa, from Catholics to evangelicals.

Yes, they're very condescending for a number of reasons.
And lest we forget: Thank god it's them and not me.

Where do the royalties go now when it's played? It's been played a lot since the initial fund-raising event...

OP, we have covered this many, many, MANY times over the years.
The lyrics DO suck, and they are a little holier than thou. But they wrote this shit in like 15 minutes for a project that literally came together in about 36 hours to get recorded, pressed onto vinyl and hit the market in enough time to raise money. (In the days WAY before MP3.)
So I'll cut them a little slack.

Found this:
As reported by LBC, Bob Geldof said in a statement: "100% of all publishing revenues from the sale of the song over the past 35 years (and continuing) and amounting to tens of millions of pounds go and have gone directly to the Band Aid Trust for distribution to projects that aim to help the poor in several countries

R4 And, quite famously is one of the OLDEST Churches in existence. Missionaries and now "other do gooders" want to act like Africa is some deep dark heathen wasteland, but Christianity has been in Africa long before America was "discovered," or the Colonies even existed.

Christianity in Ethiopia is the largest religion in the country, the Ethiopian community at large, and dates back to the early medieval Kingdom of Aksum, when the King Ezana first adopted the faith in 330 AD. This makes Ethiopia one of the first regions in the world to officially adopt Christianity. Various Christian denominations are now followed in the country. Of these, the largest and oldest is the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church an Oriental Orthodox church centered in Ethiopia. The Orthodox Tewahedo Church was part of the Coptic Orthodox Church until 1959, when it was granted its own patriarch by Coptic Orthodox Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of All Africa Cyril VI. Ethiopia was the only region of Africa to survive the expansion of Islam as a Christian state.[1]

The largest original and oldest Christian church in Africa; second only in age worldwide to The Armenian Apostolic Church, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has a membership of 32 to 36 million,[4][5][6][7] the majority of whom live in Ethiopia,[8] and is thus the largest of all Oriental Orthodox churches. Next in size are the various Protestant congregations, who include 13.7 million Ethiopians. The largest Protestant group is the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus, with about 5 million members. Roman Catholicism has been present in Ethiopia since the nineteenth century, and numbers 536,827 believers. In total, Christians make up about 63% of the total population of the country.[9]

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church possesses the Ark of the Covenant.
Does Bob Geldorf mention his administrator fees and salaries on his many massive "charity" projects over the years?
