Not whole house purifier, but room purifiers. I have some large and some small rooms. Lots of trees around the outside of the house, so lots of dust, needles, pollen. A couple of cats. Three people who’ve been in the house too much since the shutdown began. I have a bizarre respiratory disease. Anyone out there use air purifier for allergies or wildfire smoke that work well?
Air Purifier Recommendations?

Read all of the fine print on air cleaners/filters, OP. Replacement filters (every three mos) cost a bloody FORTUNE.

I second the Levoit, it's a great purifier. The Molekule is trash, don't buy it unless you get the mini one, the bigger ones don't have the technology they claim to have.

Oh yes. Medical advice. Of course recommendations for portable air filters you can get at Best Buy or Kohls should be left to the Harvard med school grads. Wouldn’t want to die from taking too many microns out of the atmosphere.

If you get the Levoit, try this coupon code. Saved me $65

Speaking of medical advice — it’s really hard to find antiseptic bandaids in stores now except really big ones. It seems they’re not making small ones anymore. You have to order small ones online and they’re probably leftovers.

Don't get the Molekule. It's terrible. Wirecutter and Consumer Reports both say it's ineffective.

Consumer Reports says Molekule is one of the worst.

I have a basic Holmes room model OP. It's small but gets the job done. I buy the top-of-their-line HEPA replacement filters for it and I sleep like a baby. No more breathing problems or dust.
You don't need to spend a fortune. Just get the proper size cleaner for your rooms, make sure you get real HEPA filters (there are imitations galore out there) and replace them often. Clean your pre-filter as well, give it a good rinse a couple of times per year. That's it.

Winix HEPA systems are effective, portable, portable, and reasonably priced at under $150. Sometimes Costco has them on sale for less.
The HEPA filter is replaced once a year. The prefilters can be vacuumed every month or 2. Replace the charcoal filter every few months if you're vacuuming it, or monthly if you're lazy.
Replacement filters for Winix models are available online at reasonable cost because they use a standard filter size and have been in manufacture for many years.
The units are light, less than 10 lbs, and can be moved easily from room to room.

R2, how do you like? Do you know the square feet of coverage??
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 28, 2021 7:33 PM |
I'm not R14, but I like Winix because their air ionization via PlasmaWave doesn't create ozone. That's rare.
