@R1

Rob McElhenney could buy and sell you one hundred times over, and get change back from each transaction....

by Anonymousreply 4December 10, 2021 9:53 PM

I absolutely loved this show for years. I got tired around season 7 and 9 was the last one I watched. The gang are in their forties now... nevertheless, good for them and good for Rob. Very funny guy.

by Anonymousreply 5December 10, 2021 9:56 PM

R2, really? That surprises me.

I also love this show.

by Anonymousreply 8December 10, 2021 10:44 PM

[Quote] really? That surprises me.

Yup. No surprise from what I know.

by Anonymousreply 9December 10, 2021 10:48 PM

Ozzie and Harriett still produced many more episodes, 435 to IASIP's 158 and counting. Just like Gunsmoke still beats L&O:SVU, 635 to 503 and counting.

by Anonymousreply 10December 10, 2021 10:49 PM

Sunny like many scripted shows on cable has a smaller team of writers than what is on network TV. Much more similar to the UK TV model. This results in less episodes but far more consistent in quality. Network TV is all about pleasing advertisers while cable has more freedoms thanks to funding from subscriptions and also less tampering from the FCC.

by Anonymousreply 11December 10, 2021 10:57 PM

Charlie’s cute

by Anonymousreply 12December 10, 2021 11:01 PM

The most recent episode irked me (spoilers if you haven't watched it), that they had Mac smiling about the monkey face fucking him. Because being gay is the same as being into bestiality? It's the exact kind of bullshit you'd expect from a straight guy writing a gay character (well, in this case, one straight guy [Glenn Howerton] and a frau)

by Anonymousreply 13December 10, 2021 11:03 PM

Well deserved. I've always loved this show. It's totally cathartic to watch. The characters are total miscreants and losers, but the cast is anything but that. I feel like this show has been a bit under the radar for as long as it's been around. Maybe that's a good thing. They've always got something up their sleeves, like dropping 2 episodes per week this season.

by Anonymousreply 14December 10, 2021 11:21 PM

I just said to my Philly jabroni partner, "my imaginary Internet friends say Rob Machelhenny is super rich and has a giant dick!"

And he said, "Ah, so Rob Mchellhenny is on Datalounge?"

by Anonymousreply 15December 10, 2021 11:44 PM

I'm going to need to see the penis pics.

by Anonymousreply 16December 10, 2021 11:46 PM

It used to be very funny, now it's somewhat depressing to watch... so I don't

by Anonymousreply 17December 10, 2021 11:48 PM

The dance scene at the end of the coming out season was a bold move, showed a real commitment by Rob to the material, and ended a story arc that could have gone either way.

A bold move, done from an apparent place of love and respect by a hot straight man that also shows off his incredible body? I’ll take more of that please.

As a young boy Rob McElhenney's mother packed up and left his father, and family to move in with a woman who is now his step-mother. Thus am sure the guy knows something about writing gay characters.

But then again they did that trannie thing, which Rob McElhenney later apologized about....

by Anonymousreply 20December 12, 2021 10:01 AM

You have to give it up for Rob McElhenney. It took lots of work and dedication to go from beer gut slob to cut up muscle daddy.

I love Rob's half moon eyes. So cute.

by Anonymousreply 24December 13, 2021 4:18 AM

This season is really good so far, it feels like they are back to form. The first episode with the PPP loans was fucking hysterical, they really lucked out with Pennsylvania playing such a big role in the 2020 election. Of course The Gang would have voted for Kanye West.

I haven't watched it past the 3rd season but I remember liking the pre-Danny DeVito episodes much better.

by Anonymousreply 31December 13, 2021 6:28 PM

It is weird to me this show is the longest ever. McIlhenny is a super driven person is my sense. To keep doing it is rare - more from burn out like Seinfeld or Friends. Also weird that he is married to the girl of the show.

by Anonymousreply 32December 13, 2021 6:32 PM

And Rob McIlhenney is still a narcissistic, misogynist cunt.

by Anonymousreply 33December 13, 2021 6:37 PM

Outraged tranny ^

by Anonymousreply 34December 13, 2021 6:43 PM

No, cunt @ R34. Just a mouthy swinging-dick gay guy. McIlhenney lost me when I used to follow some of his social media, and later learned what he did to his ex girlfriend/the original 'Sweet Dee'. A major dick move and it's hard not to consider that and his arrogance when I see him.

Got anything else now?

by Anonymousreply 35December 13, 2021 6:52 PM

R35 is triggered 😱

by Anonymousreply 36December 13, 2021 6:54 PM

R35 What did he do? He beat her?

by Anonymousreply 38December 13, 2021 6:56 PM

R35 how does anything he did in his personal life affect you personally?

Nasty snowflake cunt.

by Anonymousreply 39December 13, 2021 7:00 PM

R37/R38: They were a group of friends, all with a Philly connection who met randomly while trying to find work in Hollywood. Rob had been with his girlfriend a while. They would collaborate on skits, go to auditions together, write, etc. By all accounts a cool story. They did a cheap Sunny pilot pitch and amazingly caught the interests of producers. I don't remember the specifics, but one of the network execs had some issue with Rob's girlfriend who played Dee. The information is out there if you look for it. She apparently came home one afternoon, or maybe he came home, and subsequently, he both fired her and broke up with her. (or, maybe she broke up with him after that? I can't recall.) . She allegedly has never heard from him again, was never offered any work on the show and apparently has never been able to find work in Hollywood. She's now married. She stayed quiet for many years though people were very interested in the details. She finally gave some interview where she detailed what happened. I think there's a big Reddit thread on it somewhere.

Of course, I'm not "personally involved" with those people, no more than any of us is personally involved in the nonsense we blather about here. But, it left a lasting impression on me. Her story isn't refuted by him or anyone else. The woman says that Charlie and the other guy who plays Dennis have never reached out to her, she was just sort of ghosted. And remember, they were close friends in addition to her and Rob McIlhenney being a couple. I'm sure they have their own take on it, but by all accounts, there was no problem with her, per se. They weren't feuding or anything. An exec/producer just didn't want her on the show.

So, guess what happens? McIlhenney hired another blond, tall, pretty, blue eyes, etc... casts HER in the role, dates her and marries her. They're married with kids and hopefully happy. But it makes you wonder about the sociopathy and brutality of the guy and how much he wanted his fame and money. So, yeah, my opinions on him are formed by that.

by Anonymousreply 40December 13, 2021 7:14 PM

[quote] Of course, I'm not "personally involved" with those people

I’m sure that a deranged anonymous online troll sticking up for this woman will be of great comfort to her r40

by Anonymousreply 41December 13, 2021 7:19 PM

Again, R40. How does this PERSONALLY affect you? Because all we hear is a bunch of bitchy whiny projecting.

Take your shit out on the ex that did that to you, not here in a thread about some random TV show.

by Anonymousreply 42December 13, 2021 7:20 PM

R41 - You're crawling all over this thread. Damn girl, you are seriously triggered. You involved with this show? Are you one of the actors? Share with us. Otherwise, maybe take your medication. You sound completely unhinged. And over banal replies to a random online discussion. Are you new here?

by Anonymousreply 43December 13, 2021 7:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 44December 13, 2021 7:26 PM

R40 is exactly why straight women frau cunts should be banned from DL.

by Anonymousreply 45December 13, 2021 7:27 PM

Did the original Dee look like Rachel Dratch?

by Anonymousreply 46December 13, 2021 7:29 PM

Actually I completely agree with R40. I had read that background in a recent article about him. It was just stated in summary in passing - but it jumped out at me like an alarm. Truly classic Hollywood cut-throat behavior. Dispels the myth of the Philly “good guy” that his PR team attempts to use to define him.

He strikes me as an extremely ambition/work-focused guy. Those types tend to have damage. In his case, probably from his mother abandoning his family. He also seems to hold a grudge against her - understandably but indicative of a damaging mother / childhood experience. Ambition tends to come from insecurity.

by Anonymousreply 47December 13, 2021 7:53 PM

[quote] Ambition tends to come from insecurity

Only losers say that r47

by Anonymousreply 48December 13, 2021 8:01 PM

Her life is in shambles all because of Rob? Get a grip, seriously. I'm surprised you haven't started clamoring over how she's owed back payments of royalties from the show. An exec didn't want her on the show, apparently none of Hollywood want's her either. She sounds like a shitty actress to be honest. She's just bitter because he dumped her and is famous and richer these days.

Thankfully I have R40 blocked.

by Anonymousreply 49December 13, 2021 8:27 PM

The original Dee was played by Rob’s girlfriend at the time, a super pretty preppy blonde. The character was super sweet (Sweet Dee) bubbly, and naieve. FX did NOT believe that character could ever be a bartender in South Philly, and told them they needed to recast and rewrite. Funny enough, Rob fought against casting Kaitlin Olson and it was Glenn and Charlie who outvoted him which is why she was cast.

Tough move, but I think it was the right one. Kaitlin is fucking phenomenonal in the part. Remember, Landgraf also had to force them to hire Danny DeVito, which they were not happy with. Danny saved the show.

by Anonymousreply 50December 13, 2021 9:06 PM

The girlfriend also said Kaitlin reached out to her after she was cast and was super sweet

by Anonymousreply 51December 13, 2021 9:07 PM

R40 I mean, it's a mildly scummy move on Rob's part. I have suspicions the original Dee was hard to take in large doses.

by Anonymousreply 52December 13, 2021 9:57 PM

R40 The girlfriend says she and Rob were broken up at that point, and he told her he was worried the network wouldn’t want exes on the show or something like that. Glenn and Charlie wanted Kaitlin, Rob did not. I think the girlfriend was upset at Rob for not fighting hard enough for her to stay

by Anonymousreply 53December 13, 2021 10:08 PM

R53 So he got told to replace her and he did. Not much of a scandal.

by Anonymousreply 54December 13, 2021 10:12 PM

R54 Yeah, pretty much. Originally the show was supposed to be about struggling actors in LA, but it changed to bar owners in South Philly. She may have been right for that version, but the network didn’t think she had the grit to play a South Philly bartender. I can see how it would hurt her for Rob to marry the woman she was replaced with, though.

by Anonymousreply 55December 13, 2021 10:15 PM

R55 Hard to take that as anything but an upgrade, especially if she has the same general look.

by Anonymousreply 56December 13, 2021 10:17 PM

Omg the roller rink episode this past week was hysterical.

by Anonymousreply 57December 13, 2021 11:12 PM

Lousy show. Ozzie and Harriet was a lot better.

by Anonymousreply 58December 14, 2021 12:19 AM

Do some of you have any idea how many scores or even hundreds of actors and or writers are out in CA or NY shopping scripts/videos? Rob McElhenney like many others had nothing but basically an amateur video shot on home camcorder to offer.

One in a million shot Mr. McElhenney's video reached right "suits" who expressed an interest and willing to give things a go. But as normal with television, films, plays or even books those putting up the money wanted some changes.

Rob McElhenney could have resisted throwing the gf under a bus and said "nope she stays....". But at what cost? Suits could have turned around and said "it's our way or the highway..."

Creative life is full of tough choices. Rob McElhenney was a total newbie with nil clout to make demands.

by Anonymousreply 59December 14, 2021 1:50 AM

You’re speaking about the reality of the entertainment industry r59….but harsh reality does not matter to the deranged white cunts who feel intense hot anger about people they’ve never met, about events that happened 20 years ago.

Rage cunts rage! Your tears of rage are so sweet.

by Anonymousreply 62December 14, 2021 2:29 AM

Fun Fact: both Rob McElhenney and Joseph Gordon-Levitt play Mormon missionaries in the gay film Latter Days.

I know that Steve Sandvoss changed his name and went into cheesemaking. I think he could have been huge in Hollywood. His acting was limited but that didn't stop Bradley Cooper or Ryan Reynolds. Maybe he just didn't want to present hole.

by Anonymousreply 75December 14, 2021 11:56 PM

This is the original “It’s Always Sunny” Pilot (when they got picked up with FX) with Rob’s ex girlfriend as Dee. The network wanted Rob to recast and rewrite Dee because they didn’t believe the old actress as a bartender in South Philly, which is why Kaitlin was hired. Kaitlin said she had to beg them to write Dee with more comedy and for the character to be just as awful as the boys. Dee didn’t really come into her own as a character until Season 3. Now she’s my favorite character!

by Anonymousreply 93December 16, 2021 12:36 PM

R93 I really like "The Mick." They didn't really give it a chance and I like "AP Bio."

The most recent season has had its moments, though it’a not the best. I am a longtime fan though and keep watching. When they get the humor right (which is pretty much always), it’s phenomenal. No one does it better.

by Anonymousreply 108December 23, 2021 6:15 PM

If he was incredibly ambitious, he wouldn’t have stuck with a show for over 15 years. He would have moved on long ago.

Now he may be an asshole or douche or whatever. But he seems loyal to the cast and crew.

by Anonymousreply 109December 23, 2021 7:38 PM

Comicbook nerds at Reddit have been pushing for Warner Bros/DC to cast Glenn Howerton as Joker for nearly a decade now, long before that character became popular enough to where actors clamored to play him to win awards.

If Glenn does branch out in other roles outside of It's Always Sunny, I could see him playing a comicbook villain.

by Anonymousreply 110December 23, 2021 7:53 PM

R104 It is that well known. It was the most popular sitcom in the U.S. for a few years. It's past its prime, though, by at least 8 seasons.

by Anonymousreply 113December 24, 2021 11:32 PM

I always meant to start watching this show, but it seemed like I'd have to start from the beginning which seemed like a huge commitment.

Then, as the years have gone by, it became that much more of a commitment to start watching, especially since the older ones are from such a long time ago that the comedy and references are probably dated.

Now, it's been so long, I can't imagine starting to watch the show.

Here's some footage of Jordan doing some demo reels as Dee. She's nowhere near as funny and crazy as Kailin Olson is on the show, she's bland boring, and basic. The show hadn't even officially aired before she was replaced as part of the cast. None of them knew at the time how successful the show would go on to be.

Kaitlin had a different idea for the character of Dee. She insisted up front that she wanted to be as crazy and fucked up as the rest of the cast, and not just some generic female voice of reason - and it worked out perfectly.

Jordan claims she isn't bitter on her site, you can easily read between the lines that she is still incredibly bitter.
