All comic geeks should know who George Perez is. He drew The New Teen Titans and Crisis of Infinite Earths in 80's for DC Comic. He also wrote and drew the best Wonder Wonder series. Now he has 6 months to a year to live. Very sad news.

Very sad. Probably the best ever at penciling splash pages/covers that contain dozens of figures in action.

3 months! ha!

This is so sad. George & his wife have bee together for about 40 years now & I recall he was born in 1955.
He was pro LGBT even in the 80s & went after Trump big time in the last 5 years. He was my favorite artist in all genres.
The last I heard, George is probably worth around $20 million & had at least 1 nice home in Florida.
My guess is that he was the richest comic book artist of all time & this will shoot his art prices up even more than they already are on sites like eBay. Success came to him pretty early in his early 20s (& rightly so) so he has had at least 4 decades to enjoy the good life.
To say the comic world won't be the same with out him is such an understatement. Imagine what he could've done in the next 30 years if he had them. I know he has raised lots of $$$ to help comic book workers with aid like housing, health care costs, etc. so I'm sure his peers will miss him too. His work on the late 80s Wonder Woman series made me realize how great a writer he is & that he had more to do with the writing style of other books like the New Teen Titans then what the public was told.

Cancer is a CUNT.
Sorry, Mr. Perez. At least you leave a great legacy.

He has Vulcan ears.

Deeply sad. When the news came out, it was so moving to see all the stories from fans and peers about what a sweet and supportive guy he was to them.

One of the best comic book artists ever, if not THE best.
His work raised the bar considerably. Bravo to him.
Sorry to hear he's ill and dying. He brought me many hours of pleasure over the years.

Probably only has a month or two left. Pancreatic cancer kills fast.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 16, 2022 9:55 PM |
I think he is the best comic book artist of all time.

I love George. My childhood was full of memories of his work, esp CRISIS and NEW TEEN TITANS.

He managed to make Wonder Woman exciting again, after years and years of lackluster writing for the character.

Very sad news, he is a true legend in the industry. His reboot of Wonder Woman in the late 80s redefined the character.

This is very sad, George Perez is an absolute legend. He redefined and revitalized Wonder Woman in the late 1980s, his new approach to WW was brilliant.

Closeted homosexual who accidentally outed himself in 1988 and 1989.
Ask Andy Mangels.

He sure did prove you wrong at R3 LOL!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 11, 2022 12:06 AM |
R27 I looked Andy Mangels up but can't find out what went down between them.
Can you tell us what happened in the late 80s?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 11, 2022 12:09 AM |
There was an Andy Mangels-written article about Gays In Comics in 1988. There was an anonymous āsuperstar writer/artistā who talked about being gay and closeted in the comics biz. He was saying how the industry wasnāt homophobic but he couldnāt come out.
Then he was talking about writing gay characters in comics, and he said, very huffy, that āNo straight editor is going to tell me I canāt write gay characters in my stories!ā
Then, midway through 1989, Perez was interviewed by Andy Mangels about his return to New Titans with the new origin for Donna Troy. When asked how editorial reacted to him depicting some of the Amazons as lesbians, Perez replied word for word what the āsuperstar wrier/artistā said in 1988: āNo straight editor is going to tell me I canāt write gay characters in my stories!ā
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 11, 2022 12:21 AM |
Thanks for that quick reply R30.
If the industry wasn't anti gay then I wonder why the superstar couldn't come out?
An anti gay family perhaps?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 11, 2022 12:31 AM |
I think he meant the fans. Straight fanboys would freak out.
No one was out in 1988. Not Craig Hamilton, no one.
Iāve always assumed his wife is his obviously lesbian best friend.

He seemed like Snagglepuss 2.0 with his responses.

He should come out while thereās still time.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 12, 2022 1:30 PM |
I especially loved his work on the late 90s Avengers with Kurt Busiek. Besides his epic crowd layouts and action scenes, he managed to give The Wasp (my favorite) a new costume almost every issue. Fabulous.

I scanned through Mangels article in Amazing Heroes and didn't find what you describe, r30. Can you pinpoint where your quotation is?

From 2 hrs ago on FB:
Greetings all, Constance here, on behalf of George.
George is so grateful for the love and support he has received throughout his illness and and his whole career. The love all of you have shown him and Carol in this impossibly hard time is deeply appreciated. For those of you who sent in videos, thank you, George enjoyed them a great deal.
Presently, George is home and resting comfortably. He is not in any pain. There are no visitors or calls at this time, he is sleeping most of the time and is very at peace.
I thank you, as always, for respecting George and Carol's privacy and remind you to direct any inquires through this page. The attached photo is from Free Comic Book Day in 2014, this was always a favorite event of George's, he loved the chance to spend the day with his fans.

Acclaimed artist Neal Adams died last week.
He did much to change the look of DC Comics in the late 60s, early 70s as George did in the early 80s.
Neal is one of my all-time favorite artists, along with George.

George Perez must have been bisexual. He was married to a woman, but he was completely into drawing hot guys, and during his run on the Teen Titans he always emphasized Robin being tied up or somehow put into bondage. He was the one responsible for Robin/Nightwing becoming the most sexualized/sexy of male superheroes.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 19, 2022 2:59 AM |
If you've ever read Perez's run on Wonder Woman, you pretty much know he was at least bi. A straight man couldn't have written like that.
The run was brilliant, btw.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 19, 2022 3:01 AM |
I agree he does make his male characters sexy as much as the female, but his post DC work "Sirens" was all busty women fighting each others! I was actually disappointed by it.
