Skins UK
I’ve heard that the UK version of Skins was a great show since I was a teen myself. Since I enjoyed Sex Education, I thought I would give Skins a try since others have recommended it as it’s supposedly similar to Sex Education.
However, I’ve found it difficult to get through just one episode. There doesn’t seem to be much of a plot and instead it’s very dark and depressing shenanigans of sociopathy, anorexia/bulimia, depression, alcohol and substance abuse, etc. It seems very cringeworthy in a similar vein to the Office.
I’m one episode in now and I’m not sure I want to continue as it’s depressing as hell. Does it get better? Is there more comedy? Am I missing something?

As a teen in the 2000s at a girls' school, every other girl I knew wanted to be Effy or Cassie.
In reality, we were all just dozens of Pandoras.

"the UK version of Skins"
Lol incredible how Americans take over everything that is not theirs. You all are the one with the American version. Not the other way around. Skins is a British creation and as usual you have made a remake of it. British made the OG.

OP did you ever continue with it?
What annoys and chagrins me on rewatching in 2022 is Effy. Where she seemed cool and mysterious and sexy and misunderstood to my teenaged eyes, as an adult I see that she’s nothing more than a pretentious soulless vapid little bore, whom everyone falls over themselves to ingratiate for some reason. She’s emotionally unavailable, bullying, hard work to befriend or date, and a bit creepy to be honest. She doesn’t have any interesting skills or qualities, and she makes no effort to change or grow (tbf the two-parter timeskip finale episode SKINS: FIRE actually acknowledges this, and delves into the whys).
Effy isn’t even that much of a knockout, lookswise—no tits or arse, too skinny, mousy colouring, duck-like mouth, trashy attire. But everyone was impressed with her because she was a size 0, partied and slept around, and wore incredibly skimpy trendy outfits to school. Watching certain episodes now, I had to clutch my pearls over some of her garms (like “please cover up, love”). I wouldn’t want my daughter acting or dressing that way.

Skins was very original for its time. Ince then the Americans tried a version (terrible), Israel tried a version, and then America created Euphoria based on the Israeli version of the UK Skins...funny how it all swings around, innit?

Mmm I just wanted Nicholas Hoult to drop his pants and sit on my face. He was so dreamy and his character was more interesting than his sister Effy, as described in R4

Jack O'Connell was really sensational in his role and he made me feel like punching his face.
Great series.

The other great UK teen series was Glue. Check it out, OP. It ran for only 8 episodes.

R8 yes, fantastic recommendation. For me it was superior to Skins, even more gritty and realistic, and less emo and disaffected. Plus it was about the rural poor rather than the urban lower-middle-class, which is always better for a drama.
