I just told off a Salvation Army bell ringer this afternoon
They're getting aggressive and obnoxious. No regrets. If I have to put up with their shit for the next month now, they can put up with my rudeness.
I considered just wearing my earbuds any time I walk in and out of the store, but I forgot them this time.

You seem desperate for attention.

Getting aggressive like how? Packing heat and saying they know where you live?

Wow! You are so badass. I can't believe how tough you are! Did a lot of people witness it - because that is wild.

[quote] I can't believe how tough you are!
Yes, I am a badass. I signed autographs for onlookers after I told the old man off. Two people offered me blowjobs, but I declined because I had places to be and people to see.

What did you tell the ringer, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 4, 2021 10:34 PM
|
R6 I don't know, this is so intense I'm not sure we can handle it. I'm surprised a news crew didn't show up. I hope OP writes a book about this.

I snatched his bell and started ringing it in his face. Then I said, if you don't step back, I'm gonna shove this bell up your ass! Then I threw it across the parking lot and sauntered off. No need to run-- everyone respects a badass like me.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 4, 2021 10:36 PM

OP just sniffed, "I'm broke."

R2, no, the frau in front of me with her daughter making a donation was desperate for attention fwiw. The stupid ass bell ringer made it a point to say "thank you!" after I ignored her twice. That's what set me off.

R10 Wow, fascinating. You are out of control. This is big news.

10/10
The Salvation Army has a long history of bigotry and homophobia.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 4, 2021 10:42 PM

Tell me you then drove over the bell as you left the lot. PLEASE.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 4, 2021 10:43 PM
|
Just put a compressed air horn in your pocket, and start blowing it in their face.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 4, 2021 10:44 PM
|
I did. And actually, the ringer threw his Santa hat at me as a left. I drove over that as well.

^No joke, I thought of that. OP here.

I won’t shop at any store that allows the Salvation Army to put the kettle in front of their door. These stores are preferring one church over the others. I don’t get it.

R20 No. Before I knew better, I did the bell ringing. It is 100% volunteer. I only did it 2 years before I started to discover that they were a horrid organization. But, in any case, the ringers are not being paid.

You can register to ring here.

One can either volunteer to be a bell ringer or apply to temporary work as one for $11.00 an hour. The hourly wage could vary for all I know but in Memphis and the Mid South it's $11.00 an hour.
The Salvation Army does not permit those of our community to fully become a member of their church and most especially not a full on Soldier (they have a quasi military structure). No preaching opportunities period if you're a member of our community either, that's heavily frowned upon with them.
They also marry other church members but their enrollment has been dwindling for some time so I wonder if they might have a few cousin marriages.
Their latest thing is that it's dawned on people that they are a racist organization and people are finally speaking out on that. Remember, they're an international organization. Please note that the actual overall manner in which they tried to rectify being a racist organization is somewhat convoluted.
That's all I got offhand. I'll pop back in this thread later on. OP good for screwing with them a bit. Either volunteering or earning money being a bell ringer isn't like bathing lepers in Calcutta or something.

The Bell Ringers at Rockefeller Plaza are professionals who sing Christmas carols. Along with LGBT folk who won't contribute, their recent stand aligning with Critical Race Theory is turning away major donors.

I had no problem understanding what R25 was saying, R26. Maybe you should try reading it again when you are sober.

R14: "The Salvation Army has a long history of bigotry and homophobia."
After OP's (alleged) actions, who could blame them?

I hate those bells with the heat of 1000 suns. Worse yet, their thrift stores suck donkey balls. Nothing good or valuable ever makes it on the floor.

OP you are fierce, gurl! I can just see you tossing your hair after you told him off and then sashaying away.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 5, 2021 7:40 AM

OP, the person you lashed out at was probably a volunteer who had no clue why you were ranting and raving. Went back Salvation Army officers and told them about the Emotionally Distrubed Person they put up with.

Their supposed racism consists of stupidly buying into Woke ideology lately. They are not racist. Walking by the big Salvation Army building on W 14 Street around Christmas I have seen a block long of poor black and brown people lined up to attend a Christmas party. I grew up in straightened circumstances, not poor exactly and of course we had Christmas, but I can imagine this may be the only Christmas celebration these children get, the only present they get.
So fuck OP and his phony story. I don't give a fuck about their homophobia either. I am dropping money in the next pot I see and wishing the bell ringer a hearty Merry Christmas!

The Salvation Army runs day care, rehabs for drugs and alcohol, training programs and a lot more/ They're a church who has a right to believe what they do. Get off the biogtry band wagon, bitches. If you needed help, they'd help you.

Salvation Army is also heavily subsidized by the govt . As is Hoodwill. I recently read a very interesting thread on Reddit (linked on here I believe) that talked about being poor, and it saddened me to see so many people saying the same thing. Theyd get free christmas gifts and their parents or parent would take the gifts and sell them. Really made me rethink donating expensive crap to toys for tots and the like.

The backlash is so bad, Salvation Army is running commercials to restore their image, claiming they're "Bible-based' where all races are equal. They should look in their own ranks, what percentage of Army officers are Black? Very few,

Good for you, OP. Those homophobic assholes can eat shit. There are so many other, better, charities to give your money to, charities that actually support gay rights.
