Thoughts on Istvan Szabo movies?

I have really enjoyed his movies, but people seem to forget about him in the "great directors" list. He has made some great films:

Father (1966) with Andras Balint

Confidence (1980) Ildiko Bansagi and Peter Andorai

Mephisto (1981) with Klaus Maria Brandauer

Colonel Redl (1985) with Klaus Maria Brandauer

Hanussen (1988) with Klaus Maria Brandauer

Meeting Venus (1991) with Glenn Close and Niels Arestrup

Sunshine (1999) with Ralph Fiennes and Rosemary Harris

Taking Sides (2001) with Harvey Keitel, Stellan Skarsgard, and R. Lee Emery

Being Julia (2004) with Annette Bening and Jeremy Irons

I Served the King of England (2006) with Ivan Barnev

The Door (2012) with Helen Mirren and Martina Gedeck

MEETING VENUS: dreadful in every way.

I've only seen a few of them, but "Colonel Redl" is one of my favorite films of all time.

"Father" is a very funny and very sad autobiographical movie. Loved it.

R2 Is it? I have never seen it, but love Glenn Close and Tannhauser.

R3 Colonel Redl is marvelous. It is one of my favorites, too. Have you seen Mephisto and Hanussen? They are considered a trilogy.

A good respite if you are tired of Netflix and you enjoy good cinema.

R6 I think he is a great director.

I've seen only Mephisto, which I like a lot.

I remember seeing Sunshine in the cinema and find it absorbing but overlong.

Being Julia is a marvellous movie. Annette Bening's scene on stage with Lucy Punch is an outstanding piece of cinema.

I have trying to find a copy of Hanussen with Klaus Maria Brandauer for a long time.
