Book Series from my Youth...Lizard Women in the South?

I have Googled every combination of words I can think of and still haven't found an answer, so here I am.

My oldest childhood friend and I were talking last night about books we read surreptitiously when we were kids. Once we knocked out the usual ones...V.C. Andrews, Judy Blume's "Wifey," the usual suspects... we both fell on a series of books set in the deep south where all of the women in town were murderous lizard people or sea creatures or swamp mutants or something in disguise. We bot remember they were extremely violent and sexual, but we have no idea what the titles were or how we got our hands on them.

The other author we wound up stealing from our mother's bookshelf the most? Judith Rossner. "Attachments" was, at the time, the most SHOCKING book I had ever read.

If DL can't help you, try the Goodreads forums, those people are amazing at remembering books.

I'd love to find out what series you're talking about, OP.

Is it maybe one of the books mentioned in this thread?

YES!!!!!! I was in Port Aransas in Summer 1989, and bought a batch of those swamp lizard women books at a junky store there, and read them during my vacation.

There were some gay male characters in there, too.

My copies were lost several years ago, but I remember the stories well. Just not the names of the books.

WTF I actually read the first Blackwater book when I was a kid, how did I not remember it when I read this post? They're set in Perdido, Alabama and one of the characters is named Nerita, if I recall. I'm going to read it again, I'm in the mood for weird trashy paperback horror.

What was the book that was about 4 college friends searching for an immortality cult?

It was a very homophobic book. They gay character could easily fuck women because it meant nothing to him. The college jock was secretly gay and hated himself. After the gay seduced the jock, the jock killed himself, including cutting off his evil cock which got hard for other men.

Only the gay (who fucked women) and some dork achieved immortality. But they could never leave the cult or they would lose it.

Awful book, but I read it for the "homosexual content" mentioned in a review.
