“On The Floor” by openly gay musician Perfume Genius
Why didn’t you whores tell me about him? He’s one of our people! And creative. I love his sound and lyrics.
I discovered him recently and love this song the most, but others are good too. “Slip Away” and “Describe” are both great also.
He’s so interesting and strange and cute. Loving him!
I just read he was the only openly gay kid in his HS in Seattle, and was bullied. He received death threats that the school administration ignored, and it got so bad he dropped out during his senior year. Sad. But he’s done well for himself.
Two years after dropping out, he was attacked by several young men in his neighborhood, leading to him moving to Brooklyn NY. He eventually moved back to Seattle to work on music and has been doing well since.

[quote] mumblecooing
I can hardly hear the cooing behind the jangly machine-made percussion.

Do these "songs" have lyrics?

He’s great in concert. Surprisingly UN sexy.

R14 I’m not shocked he’s not sexy in person. Probably very vanilla and boring

He's named Perfume Genius?
What is his brother's name?

The 'mumblecooing' is even more inaudible in R7.

Didn’t his mother teach him not to play in the dirt?

His brother's name is Pudding Somalia. There mom was a huge fan of Jello Biafra

What’s with these people who barely have any talent referring to themselves as geniuses?

Now this one has some soul.
I’m a critical bitch, didn’t ask to be this way. But this one is the real deal. I don’t think he is fully fleshed out yet though. Keeping an eye on this one.

Seems a nice sort but the first song sounds like extremely cut-rate Yeasayer (which probably no longer exists, IDK).

I've seen him live, such a talent, such a rockstar

R31 Not in the slightest. Wtf are you talking about?

He was a critical darling for a hot minute. As was the late, "great", Sophie. And Arca! And Yves Tumor. And SaraSara. And FKA Twigs. And MITSKI!, and OMA DESALA, and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Meanwhile stars such as Troye Sivan and Olly Alexander figured out we want them to put on some sparkly sexy designer schmatte and shake their little patooties to something glossy, upbeat, with a good rhythm.

This seems extremely unlikely to me, unless he's about 80 years old. These days, high school kids in places like Seattle would be appalled at gay kids being bullied.

He has five albums out, and a sixth coming this year. If you don't know about him by now, OP, it is your fault, not ours.

R38 - he is 40 years old. So this would have been in the 90s. Who knows.
His longtime boyfriend is hot.

R38 that was the 90s. Not the 2020s. Homophobia is still rampant in HS’s. Don’t believe it’s all kids supporting gays. That’s what the tv wants you to believe. They don’t show the gay kids who get bullied still.

Is bullying that involves physical assault a crime? If it is it should be enforced against these high school douchebros. Fuck up their lives. Send them to juvie.

Never heard of him before, but YouTube just recommended this song that dropped today off his new album. Paid promotion, most likely. I kinda love it, seems to be about domestic abuse and not being able to move on from it. Super effective visual around the 1-minute mark.
Some really beautiful lyrics in it... once you google them, because he's too mumbly to appreciate them in the music video itself.

He's been around for a long time, and was well known in the indie press. Here's a video he did with the late gay porn actor Arpad Miklos 12 years ago, for example.
