They think it impresses women and shows other guys how tough they are. It's their form of peacocking, but they're really just lack self-awareness.

I noticed an uptick last year when all that stimulus money was going around. I think a lot of trashy rednecks spent their money on making their cars louder. It’s pathetic not to mention a good way to get hearing loss at an early age. Some even have kids in the car. It’s child abuse. With the loud music going too. Those kids are doomed.

OP, the after market mufflers are key -- these people are DOING THIS ON PURPOSE. They are dickwads. No we don't need to hear you charging up and down the streets.

Often combined with: Muscle car, aftermarket parts/suped up economy car, or big truck.

I think it goes back to childhood and the trucks and cars they played with and the loud noises they could make them sound like. Also trucks make/or did make a lot of noise and to be a trucker was a great thing

The louder the muffler the smaller the penis. It's all about compensation for things they cannot change or control.

Op I live in a midwestern town with a population of approx 7,000. The young guys love to drive their jacked up pickups and they want ‘‘em LOUD.

This rapidly-rising trend in the douche-bro community is seriously annoying. My once quiet area has several cars that come and go that now have these loud-ass non mufflers.

You can all try to make yourself feel better by thinking that these guys have small dicks, but when I hear those loud engines what I hear is some big masculine dudes probably getting laid every night.

That being said, I hate every last one of them and I fervently pray that they spin out of control, go flying off their motorcycle face first and have the entire skin on their head be torn off and their bloody face gets scraped harshly along gravel and dirt while they scream in unbelievable pain.

Or, they can just put the mufflers back on there motorcycles. I'm indifferent between those two things.

R1 I live in Houston. It seems to be White and Hispanic men. The Black guys just ride around with their music thumping and half laying down.

It's not necessarily a low class redneck thing. My next door neighbors' 17 year old got a used Infiniti G35 (had to be a stick shift) and souped it up like many of the boys at the Jesuit school he attends do. It's not *that* loud. The reason for the after market mufflers isn't primarily to make the car loud. They increase horsepower and acceleration. He also installed specialized shocks that allow tighter turns so the car can make a 360. Well, he tried to install them himself against parental advice and screwed up. Wound up having to pay to fix up the mess. Typical straight guy behavior all around.

It's an identifier. Just like people riddled with tattoos means they were abused and molested, people who drive really loud cars have a micropenis or are self-loathing closet cases.
