Musto must have been *a bit* long in the tooth to be a club kid if he's 65 today.

Kenny Kenny, Olympia, Sushee (sp?), Amanda LaPore, Ritchie Rich, and many other "club kids" are still alive.

Youngest of them are in middle to late fifties by now. Most have long moved onto other careers and lives. It doesn't help nightlife in NYC moved on and changed.

Ummm....,Michael was never a clubkid. He didn't dress up in interesting outfits. He went out to be recognized and to gather gossip for his Village Voice column.

I used to see him around in the clubs - he was a nebbish then and an old nebbish now. He was usually by himself.

Just because you went to nightclubs, that didn't make you a club kid. He's always been an odd, unattractive character - trying to be with the cool kids. It was embarrassing.

I hate that pompous ass, Musto. I used to run into that pretentious Queen in the Village bars, ad nausea. Sitting on her bar stool, acting all knowing and above everything, like some fucking Oracle.

Club Kids were lame superficial pretentious douchy mean girls who cried about being bullied in high school yet turned right around and did the same thing to others when they were in their 20's. Pussies!

Didn’t someone on DL always run into him at the bathhouses and adult book stores in NYC? Kind of the last place I’d want to run into him. 🤮

I used to live next door to the two guys who Michael Alig stayed with when he got out of jail. One had blue hair and the other was bald. They both wore crazy outfits.

But at 50+ it looked ridiculous and kind of exhausting- a life long state of arrested development.

James St. James has a podcast called "Night Fever" where he interviews NYC nightlife stalwarts from the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Musto hung around with the club kids but wasn't a club kid himself, and I don't think ever acted as though he was.

I have to admit I thought James St. James died about a decade ago so I'm kind of excited to hear he's not only still around but has a podcast.

I always enjoyed Musto’s column. He often made me laugh. Thought he was cute, too.

I used to read his columns in the VV in the periodicals room of my university library, a naive provincial longing for big city nightlife.

I got there eventually.

I enjoyed Musto's column as well, but never met him.

I moved to NYC after college in the late 90s when that whole scene was on its way out.

I grew up on the Voice. Loved musto, savage, Ali and Akbar, the personals, for rentals, film dance art columns, Cockburn...
