I thought that was Ron Glass with Angela Lansbury, but after Googling his name I see he’s been dead since 2017.

She could get her Oscar in a remake of The Whales of August or A Trip to Bountiful. They were both great movies.

r67 Which would be worse is debatable but fortunately Angela is neither in managed care nor in Glendale. She is living at home and has a very pleasant and comfortable life. Here she is last summer.

On the other folding table (picture-right) there appears to be a bell. I wonder if Madame rings a lot.

Angie getting down with the thiccness. Considering I’m used to seeing people become emaciated as they age, I think she looks good.

The gayest moment of my life was when I sat behind Angela Lansbury at a performance of "Minnelli By Minnelli." Harvey Fierstein was talking to her before the curtain went up and Liza gave her a shout-out during the show.

The water retention and the fact she's surrounded by all those tables with everything in reach indicates she's probably not very mobile anymore. She's had an amazing career and never let herself get typecast.

She looks feeble.

She seems fine to me, esp. for her age. I heard that she had wanted to stop Murder She Wrote earlier than it stopped. However, the show had been employing at least a couple of her family members and she wanted them to keep earning income.

R31, that's not accurate anymore. She felt she needed to move back to LA which is where most of her family is these days. She wasn't really up to navigating New York on her own anymore. It's been about three years or so since she moved back to LA - hence the photo last year of her eating a taco in Malibu. It's unlikely she'll get back to Ireland, either - that kind of traveling is beyond her now (the last big airline flight was when she went to London to film "Mary Poppins Returns.")

R87 Angela often considered quitting MSW. She was in almost every scene and had very long days with little time off, in her 60s.

She almost quit at the end of season 5, they had to rewrite the ending.

In season 6 & 7 they sometimes used those awful "bookend" episodes, where Jessica appeared for about 4 minutes total, and someone else solved the murders. Ratings suffered so they stopped using this ploy and gave Angela more money and control.

She was made an Executive Producer from season 8 and her company started to produce the show. Her son directed a lot of the later episodes and her brother wrote quite a few too. She was very open about the money and keeping all the crew employed were her main reasons for shooting so long.

The show was still doing well until that fucker Les Moonves took over CBS and sent it to its death in a new Thursday timeslot against "Friends" as he didn't think MSW was "sexy" enough!

r87 Yes, exactly. Like many people in their mid to late 80s and 90s, they seem to age steadily and then have a sudden acceleration where the decline goes faster. That's old age. She was very ambulatory up until about the last 18 months. I love this photo but it was taken in 2018 which may as well have been 20 years ago.

What causes water retention in people her age? Is it a sign that her body is shutting down?

Off topic, but I'm surprised they haven't done a remake/reboot of Murder, She Wrote since they're busy remaking every other show from the 80s and 90s. I could see a parody type movie with Melissa McCarthy or Krisin Wiig.

That's a blood thinner, a water pill, and an old woman who won't elevate feet over heart. They hate sitting back like that.

Can't believe they didn't take those cluttered tables away before taking the photo. It would have taken 30 seconds to move them and she would have looked much less infirm. It makes things look like somewhere else in that room they might have a bed and a commode, which is what happens when old people are too deteriorated to move far.

The other thing is that her excess girth is not water weight. Look at her ankles. If she had edema from water retention, those ankles would be much bigger. They are essentially normal size.

She was a teenager when World War II began. Insane.

I was shocked to see her playing a chubby, smart-mouthed little slut in Gaslight, or the unabashed cunt in The Manchurian Candidate. I grew up thinking of her as the sweet woman from Murder She Wrote.

She was padded out to look older in Gaslight, aged 18.

She had an amazing start with back-to-back Oscar nominations by age 20 and starring in Gaslight, National Velvet, The Picture Of Dorian Grey.

Pity her studio didn't know how to use her in good material, she could have had a much better movie career.
