I renewed my VPN subscription for a year since it was half off - I know, how exciting. Other than that, I just took a trip to the liquor store to stock up on booze.
I've noticed many brick and mortar stores weren't even offering "door buster" deals, perhaps due to the pandemic but also people opting to shop online these days instead.

Slippers for $10 or 1/2 off.
Need a blender that can make chopped potatoes into an almost smooth consistency for potato cakes. NEED SUGGESTIONS.
Buying more turkeys to stick in my neighbor's empty freezers. They loved the one I cooked for Thanksgiving but it wasn't large enough for many leftovers. Also stuffed it and made all of the sides. Anyway is Butterball really better than Jennie-O? Promised a 2nd turkey dinner before Christmas.

one of those Ninja blenders should work for your potato needs, check their reviews on youtube, the ones with with food demos.

We did it last year too, there were very few kids that returned for a second year. I hope it means they all found permanent housing. I bought a lot of the stuff during Amazon Prime day.

r25, I got this for $140 because I won't be upset if I have to replace it in a year like I have had to with every expensive vacuum I have bought in the past 10 years. it's unfortunately out of stock at that price now
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 27, 2021 7:23 PM |
Not R21, but I got this Dirt Devil compact upright vacuum cleaner recently from Target (not on Black Friday). It works well for my needs. I paid about $40.

I haven’t bought anything. And my family (everyone is grown and no one needs more crap) has decided to do a white elephant gift card exchange. Everyone buys a $30 gift card at a store of their choice, and then we exchange white elephant style at Christmas.
I’m debating buying myself a Roomba (although I already have two vacuums), but damn even on sale Roombas are fucking expensive.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 27, 2021 7:36 PM |
I don't like my rooma r31, if that helps.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 27, 2021 7:37 PM |
R21, that is the same one I looked at from Kohls, but it was out of stock by the time I tried to order it. Also the same justification...I have 2 dogs and 4 cats, and no matter how much I spend, I feel like they all lose suction around the one year mark.
R28, do you think that one would work well for pets? If I got 6 months out of it, I'd consider it a win.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 27, 2021 7:38 PM |
R33, I think that the Dirt Devil compact would be worth a try. I don't have pets but I do have thick hair (on my head) that sheds in my house.
I do make it a point to empty out that canister often, so I'm sure that helps. I also do check the roller (underneath). So far, no tangled hair in there. My old vacuum had a lot of hair caught in the roller.

R35, thank you, rescue-chick! That looks like a great deal (since I can't get the one you got.)
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 27, 2021 8:34 PM |
R38 To be honest it is not that different other than the thick blade that allows for quick spreading of condiments on bread before cutting the sandwich. I have read several good reviews regarding this style and it’s a multi use knife for cutting through veggies, herbs and meat cleanly due to the serrations.
I had my eye on this knife and missed out on a great sale a few months ago so I was glad to find this on sale again.
I own a few serrated knives, I think my favorite is my Wusthof classic Ikon bread knife, the handle is cream and it has a nice weight and feel, it is a traditional looking bread knife with a long thin blade which has held its edge for several years.
I also have a Wusthof Classic deli knife which looks a little weird because it has an offset looking blade which lets you put pressure on the top when cutting through something thick.

R24, Yes I'd like to put chopped up potatoes in the device and have it come out like applesauce. Do I need a food processor or a blender? My mother used to use an Osterizer blender years ago.
Don't know what's worth the money, and I'd like it to take up a minimal amount of space in my kitchen cupboard. My older Black & Decker (or is it Hamilton Beach?) blender doesn't do the job.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 27, 2021 10:10 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 27, 2021 10:38 PM |
R53, I'm assuming you're using *raw* potatoes in a stand blender. I wouldn't yet abandon what you have (Black and Decker / Hamilton Beach). Try this method on this YouTube video. Starts at around the 5:30 mark. (Involves adding some water and then straining.)
I'm guessing you're having problems getting the raw potatoes to move around in the blender. Water should help.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 27, 2021 10:39 PM |
Oatmeal and TP. I had a coupon for the TP. I wanted to buy cashews, but they weren't on sale. I went to a record store and was going to buy a record, but I put it back. Maybe later. That concluded my Black Friday adventures.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 27, 2021 10:42 PM |

R58, I love jersey sheets. Unfortunately (fortunately?) they hold up so well the are the only kind I have left!
R60, do you remember the brand/material?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 27, 2021 10:50 PM |
R25, if you want a new vacuum, I recommend getting a cordless. I got a Shark Vertex. I absolutely love it, it's light unlike a cumbersome corded vacuum and it's perfect for hardwood floors. I found myself sweeping my floors a lot but not getting rid of the dust effectively like this does. It cleans rugs well although I use my regular vacuum for my shag rugs.
I bought mine 3 months ago for $329 but now they're on sale at Amazon, Walmart and JCPenney for $100 less -- $199 and $249. I can just shoot myself for not waiting.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | November 27, 2021 10:55 PM |
r65, do you have pets? I killed my cordless dyson in months, now I have a several hundred dollars dust buster. I don't recommend them if you have pets.

I'm glad you mentioned the pets, r66. Kohls had the vacuum you bought and a Shark Vortex for Black Friday at a really great price. The regular vacuum was of course out of stock, so I thought about the Vortex, but couldn't pull the trigger. It's probably best I didn't.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 27, 2021 11:21 PM |
R64 It was the organic cotton brushed parcel cool sheets, no pilling and they stay cool so you don’t feel hot at night. They are not expensive even at regular price of $40 for the king. Look out for the shocking values for good deals.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 28, 2021 12:33 AM |
R60, I am almost 50 years old ad cannot figure out what sheets I like. I have finally realized thread count is meaningless. I hate microfiber sheets; my husband hates flannel. I have also realized i don't care about wrinkles. I JUST WANT SOFT SHEETS. I bought a set at TJ Maxx in 2005, but by the time I realized I loved them, the tag was faded. I bought a set a few years ago at JCP Home 300 count all cotton "super" or "extra" (?) soft that I love, but I think they have been discontinued. I get all turned around when they advertise sheets at $200, and they are always on sale, so they are actually $39.99 sheets and feel like sandpaper.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 28, 2021 1:24 AM |
R61, Thanks for your tip. I'll try all of them and watch the YouTube video.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 28, 2021 1:31 AM |
Definitely buying the $20 sheet set, thanks. As long as they're cotton and don't wrinkle easily they'll be fine for my Queen.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 28, 2021 1:35 AM |
R70 I sleep hot so cool sheets are a must for me and I have found that cotton percale sheets keep me cool. I don’t like sheets with a rough texture and thread count is misleading so immediately avoid anything that highlights the thread count first. The better quality linens are made from long staple cotton.
I have had good luck with Bellino sheets, sometimes you can score them at home goods or Marshalls.

Wait ! Are those "real" Polychromo color pencil sets because the 120 sets are very expensive @ Jerry's Artarama and Blick. I didn’t see any good deal on men’s clothes at the usual places I buy from. I assume it’s the Buttigieg supply chain problem that has kept stores from having excess stock that would go on clearance. However, I did find some shirt and pants deals on Amazon and I bought a robe from Kohl’s.

A couple of Yankee candles, five pairs of chinos to wear to work, duct tape, a bottle of ether, a length of rope, a large vat of lard, heavy-duty chain and a package of blindfolds.

R112 You can’t just post that without giving the back story, what prompted the Tunisian man to call you names and threaten you with an expensive Japanese sandwich knife?

My iPad died. I ordered a new one & a new case from local geek shop. It came in the day before thanksgiving. If I’d waited 2 days I would’ve got at least a $100 apple gift card. But the shop didn’t tell me apple was going to do that & I’m pretty pissed about it.

Anyone know of a slim, lightweight emergency phone battery charger that is reliable? I ought 2 chargers a few years ago. Both were heavy as hell, each charged my phones twice a piece & then never recharged themselves again. They were not disposable chargers. When reading reviews, it seems like chargers that are not sold as disposable chargers seem to be under the impression that they are, in fact, disposable.

R134, I have a variety of portable phone chargers, but my favorite is the small and lightweight iWalk.
I use the model compatible with my Android Samsung Galaxy.
Amazon. About $30--$35.
