I just got done watching this, released this week on Blu-ray. I'd never seen it before and decided to pick it up, and what a hoot. The late-'80s mall atmosphere is laid on thick, with big hair, shoulder pads, escalator murders, neon lights, Orange Julius, AND Morgan Fairchild hamming it up (and getting thrown over a balcony and impaled!). Adding to the '80s charm is soap opera hottie Rob Estes as the secondary male lead, and a young, rather cute Pauly Shore playing a goofy ice cream vendor. The acting is uniformly bad, and the special effects are low-rent, but it was considerably more fun than I expected to be. They filmed it at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, which appeared in a number of other films from this era. Does anyone remember this movie? It was (shockingly) not released directly to video, but actually got a theatrical release.
"Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge" (1989)
