What is your favorite city skyline? Why?

I love studying city structures and skylines, which is your favorite? Least favorite? Why?

I've always thought Philadelphia's skyline was distinctive, creative, and inviting. As a young gayling, it was a welcome sight leaving the oppressive confines of suburban NJ.

The Nashville skyline has had many songs written about it.

Doesn't Philly have a weird heavy vibe? That was my experience.

Philly skyline could be described as “heavy”. Seems grayish and lots of square tops. But I do think it’s building crescendo to the center is interesting - seems like a very naturally formed concentration.

Boston—because it's home!

Isn't Philly the murder capital of North America?

by Anonymousreply 8November 24, 2021 3:08 PM

Is it Philly or Chicago or St Louis? Whatever - all FoxNews storyline. For most wealthy resident and tourists, it’s largely irrelevant because it’s so concentrated in poor neighborhoods. Like NYC in the early 90s.

Love New York, Hong Kong, Paris, Prague and Shanghai, but hate Dubai and Moskow.

I feel so upset about the mess they've made of New York - that was always the best in the world, probably still is, in spite of...

R12- Are you referring to those new super tall STICKS that were built for RICH- RIFF RAFF?

by Anonymousreply 13November 24, 2021 3:25 PM

"Isn't Philly the murder capital of North America?"

No it isn't, and not by a long shot. On a per capita basis, the murder rate wouldn't even put it in the Top 10 of murder capitals.

My favorite is Atlanta. The view of the skyline shooting out of an endless forest is incredible.

I also love Chicago's skyline. NYC's skyline has been completely ruined by all those hideous needle thin buildings that look more like construction cranes than buildings.

They look like shards of glass fallen from the sky.

R19- Also that piece of CRAP that they now call The World Trade Center is not a replacement for the ca. 1973- 2001 Trade Center. That area of lower Manhattan still doesn't look right even twenty years after those buildings were destroyed.

by Anonymousreply 20November 24, 2021 7:01 PM

I always said they should have rebuilt the same two towers that were destroyed, exactly as they looked before.

by Anonymousreply 21November 24, 2021 7:11 PM

All my favorites are in the past and no longer exist. And the decision to let buildings be higher then Billy Penn in Philadelphia was a huge mistake.

Los Angeles. I live here, and am biased, but it's very distinctive. Love the mountains in the background.

I love Atlanta too. Coming out of the trees, it's like Oz. It being such a welcome respite from the rest of the racist and antigay south makes it such a relief to see.
