Australian and New Zealand voices may also be considered.
Whose British accent do you like best?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 10, 2021 4:02 PM |
No such thing as a British accent.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 24, 2021 1:35 AM |
By definition Australian and New Zealand accents are not British.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 24, 2021 1:41 AM |
I work with a guy who groups New Zealand, Australian, South African and English accents as "British" because he can't or doesn't distinguish among them.

I always liked the Highlands accent myself. Here's a linguistic tour of Scotland for you.

I love George Sanders' voice. To me, he's the epitome of the refined, upper-class British accent.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 24, 2021 2:01 AM |
I like a Scottish accent. Specifically the Glasgow accent like in R7 video.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 24, 2021 2:17 AM |
I like Joanna Lumley’s accent. Very smooth. Her travel videos are great. She’s got the perfect voice for documentaries.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 24, 2021 2:21 AM |
R1 Tell that to Henry Higgins who could tell which neighborhood you were from just by the accent.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 24, 2021 2:26 AM |
George Sanders apparently had a singing voice. He didn't use it here.

After her interview with Oprah, I realized I hate Adele's accent, her speaking voice is trashy.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 24, 2021 2:32 AM |
He sounds like Tom Daley.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 24, 2021 7:39 AM |
@r19, I came here to post the same. Adele is such a good singer, but girl, please don't talk. Her accent sounds like Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. Of all the English accents hers has to be the worst. It's also interesting how people lose their accent when they sing
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 24, 2021 7:45 AM |
R15 imo a Glaswegian burr from a pretty guy’s mouth is a real ‘leg-opener’😉😘
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 9, 2021 9:48 PM |
I don't really know which accent (Cambridge?) this is but Sarah Douglas speaking could always make me go weak
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 9, 2021 9:55 PM |
If you think that New Zealand and Australian accents are British, then so are American accents, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 9, 2021 10:01 PM |
R24 he has more of an Edinburgh or general Lowland Scots accent.
A Glaswegian accent is almost unintelligible.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 9, 2021 10:57 PM |
R28 according to IMDB, the actor is Glaswegian born and raised, from the Summerston/Maryhill area.
Likely, he’s affecting a more generic or vague Lowlands accent in the playscene, to sound more intelligible for the audience and to stay closer to the character—Rabbie Burns of course was not Glaswegian, he came from South Ayrshire.
Here is the same actor, about five years older, much more tired, and out of character, to get a better read on he speaks naturally. He certainly sounds a Glaswegian native to me, albeit a well-spoken one (one hopes that is the case with every Brit actor!)

R31 if you don’t know our own Jack Grealish yet, then you ought.
He’s a bit (well, a lot) of a tart, but he’s got a heart of gold.

Australian is second only to Scottish. A Scottish accent is freakishly hot.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 9, 2021 11:32 PM |
After watching many Australian shows (reality or other), I can definitely tell an Aussie accent from British. I can't believe I couldn't distinguish the differences before, and there are a lot.
Not much diff between AU and NZ though.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 9, 2021 11:33 PM |
I prefer New Zealand accents, I find them softer. Though I have had a grudge against Australians ever since I served a bunch of rude ones in a restaurant I worked in 15 years ago.

R29 Sean Biggerstaff is hairy and hot. I love his accent. He suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome though, so sadly him bottoming would never happen.

David Farrar had a great voice
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 10, 2021 12:01 AM |
R37 He has spoken about living with IBS. He might even have done some charity work on behalf of them.
He's straight though, so bottoming wouldn't be an issue unless his girlfriend wants to peg him.

"Scottish"?
Idiots.
Edinburgh, Border, Glaswegian (and The Patter), Shetland, Doric and other Northeasterns, Caithness, East Angus, Kincardine, Dundonian, Fife Scots, East Neuk, U-Scots plumming variant, and more ---
Just because you're ignorant and your ears are stupid and you don't care, the absurdity of saying one likes a "Scottish" or "English" or the rest makes the DL into the same can of garbage the rest of your social media topics are.
And why?
Because your quality is the garbage that goes into it.

The further north you go in Britain, the more incomprehensible the locals become. Once you get over the Scots border, forget it. They might as well be speaking Urdu.
Same in Ireland (Republic). Dooblin accent is sorta understandable. Cork? Fookin' Urdu.
James McAvoy's Glasgow accent does it for me. I'd pay good money to hear him read haggis recipes just to listen to him.

R19/r22, as someone from the same general part of London as Adele, I find she lays on the accent a bit too thick, especially when talking to Americans. It's all part of her "I'm just a typical gel from Tottnam and nuffink ain't ever gonna change vat, even if I live in a big ouass in LA" shtick.

On her new album, Adele talks to her child in a Voice Note. She cleans up her accent while talking to him. The child also speaks and he sounds relatively posh.

Australian accent: Irish adjacent, due to preponderance of Irish immigrants.
New Zealand accent: Scots adjacent, due to preponderance of Scots immigrants.

R56 Likely yes she can. She has undertaken hundreds of engagements to every corner of the UK. She is the only member of the Royal Family that I respect.
