Something similar happened to Janeane Garofalo and comedy writer Robert Cohen, who were dating in the early '90s. At the time, he was working on THE BEN STILLER SHOW and won an Emmy for it. Anyway, one time they were in Las Vegas and decided to get married as a joke in one of those tacky chapels, thinking it was pretend and thus not binding. Eventually, they broke up and went their separate ways and neither thought anything of that mock wedding until 20 years later when Cohen was getting ready to marry his fiancée. He discovered that he and Garofalo were legally married and had to ask her for a divorce. 😂
