Do You Tip The Uber/Lyft Driver?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 25, 2021 12:01 AM |
Only if they "tip" me first!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 23, 2021 7:43 PM |
Whatever, Boris.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 23, 2021 7:44 PM |
I do as I read they get shafted on short trips, due to all the fees by Uber/Lyft. The fees are a set amount that come off the trip cost so on short trips, drivers may actually lose money. So I set a $3 minimum and that covers trips that are less than $10. For trips to the vet office, which is only 1.5 mile away, the cost is usually around $9-10. I usually tip $5 because of the cats. Once the trips are long enough to exceed the $3 tip, I tip 15-20%. I thought the majority of people tipped, even if just a little bit. But I once read driver drove all day and only two riders tipped him, for a grand total of $5. I couldn't believe it. I'm pretty frugal myself so I thought I was just a slightly above average tipper but apparently plenty of people don't tip at all.
I hate tipping culture, unfortunately, in the US, some people get shafted if we don't tip. I'd gladly switch over to paying to a cost that includes paying people a fair wage.

by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 23, 2021 8:18 PM |
Yes, of course. I'm not a terrible human being.

What the fuck?? Is it really so surprising to you that people with a sense of fairness exist?
This does reek of "Boris."

Y'all do know that Uber and Lyft drivers rate their passengers too, just like we rate them, right? If you're never tipping your drivers, believe me, that reputation is known by the drivers in advance.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 23, 2021 8:25 PM |
People don’t tip because Uber says the perk of using Uber is you don’t have to tip. People who wanted to tip used Lyft. Only recently has Uber reversed this message and now says you should tip. But they only did so after they’re built a near monopoly.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 23, 2021 8:29 PM |
When it launched in 2012, Uber’s original stance on tipping drivers was that it would make using the app more of a hassle for drivers and passengers...After public pressure and complaints from drivers, Uber ultimately decided to change its policy in July 2017
Four years ago is hardly recent.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 23, 2021 8:36 PM |
What kind of cretin doesn't tip?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 23, 2021 8:36 PM |
I vaguely remember tipping was discouraged when Uber started, but it's not 2014 anymore. Haven't heard that excuse in MANY years.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 23, 2021 8:38 PM |
Why does everyone want tips? You make my coffee, you want a tip, you take my order and bring me my food, you want a tip, you scoop my ice cream, you want my tip.

If you're too cheap to tip, stay home. Problem solved.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 23, 2021 8:48 PM |
$5 every trip. If it's over $30 (which is rare) I adjust upwards. I am most generous when it's a quiet ride.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 23, 2021 9:10 PM |
100% unless they are an absolute asshole or horrible driver.
I'm a generous tipper, because my nephew drives for both Uber and Lyft, and shares horror stories.

R11 Nothing personal but you sound like gross trash
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 23, 2021 9:12 PM |
$5 a trip seems excessive. I take Uber to and from work every day so that’s $10 right there, not to mention the rides to lunch, dinner, gym, sauna, bars, bathhouse, movies, supermarket, etc. I’d be spending over $100 in tips daily.

Almost always - they may have changed the system since I started a few years back, but the two times I didn't tip my rider score dropped seriously; they were obviously able to go back and adjust my rating later. As I understand it, now they must give an immediate rating after drop-off before being eligible for another passenger.
I usually tip $1 or $2 on local trips, and more like 10% on airport runs. I didn't tip the guy recently who was playing conservative radio, and at the end made a point of giving me his card to book rides directly with him.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 23, 2021 9:23 PM |
Of course I tip. It's the way of this particular world. The only time I won't tip is if I feel assaulted by how much air freshener they've got going, though that's less of an issue now thanks to masks. Even then, however, I'll usually leave a small tip.
My rating is 4.86 on Uber and 5.0 on Lyft.

[quote]Why does everyone want tips?
Who is "everyone?" It's also well know by now that wages are too low and that certain industries and employers pay low wages because it's expected that the customer should tip. I'd agree with you if you said that that system was ridiculous and inequitable. Employers should pay a living wage to all employees.
But that's not what you're about. You're just here to shit on workers, who you very tellingly refer to as "everyone."
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 23, 2021 9:52 PM |
Yes, and take Lyft (I have stock in them).
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 23, 2021 9:54 PM |
r16 = more ignorant trash

I offer them the tip but they always want the full shaft.

" My rating is 4.86 on Uber and 5.0 on Lyft. "
Fascinating - so glad you shared
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 23, 2021 10:20 PM |
I guess I’m a complete idiot, because I didn’t realize I was supposed to. I will now. Sorry to my past drivers, yikes.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 23, 2021 10:24 PM |
So many uncivilized, thoughtless, entitled barbarians. No excuse for it. A feral dog has more ethics.
I'm surprised more passengers don't just disappear.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 23, 2021 11:41 PM |
Do you tip taxi drivers, R24?
Also, over the past year I really appreciate the fact that they're willing to do the job, when so many people are busy hiding in terror under their beds.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 24, 2021 12:02 AM |
I have never used Uber or Lyft before, but I will have to soon. Do you tip through the app, or give the driver cash?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 24, 2021 12:10 AM |
[quote] Do you tip taxi drivers, [R24]?
No, why would I tip taxi drivers? 🚕
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 24, 2021 12:12 AM |
Through the app after the ride when you rate them, R27.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 24, 2021 12:18 AM |
There’s an app?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 24, 2021 12:19 AM |
I don't see how you could possibly use either service without the app?
I will give a warning that Uber's customer service was designed by Franz Kafka in terms of problem resolutions.

by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 24, 2021 12:28 AM |
Absolutely. Why not?

A while back I had one driver who was a Muslim immigrant from sub-Saharan Africa. As a story where you can't really make assumptions, it turned out that we bonded over being huge fans of the same YouTube channel.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 24, 2021 12:36 AM |
Of course I do.

You should buy a car then or ride a bike or walk.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 24, 2021 4:32 PM |
A dollar tip is an insult. It's what you give a homeless person to get him/her to shut up.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 24, 2021 4:33 PM |
When I drove for Uber I got 1 cent tips.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 24, 2021 4:39 PM |
And, yes, of course, I also always tip taxi drivers. WTF are some of you from? A barn?
The amount all depends on the cost of the ride. There is nothing wrong with a dollar tip if the ride only costs $7. They won't turn their nose up at it.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 24, 2021 4:45 PM |
$1 up to, say, $12 is fine. Drivers should be fine with that.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 24, 2021 5:35 PM |

But you had to use your feet to start the car

[quote]$1 up to, say, $12 is fine. Drivers should be fine with that.
No, a dollar is an insult. As I said, it's what you give to a homeless person for doing nothing.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 24, 2021 9:33 PM |
R42, you're an idiot. Stay in your penthouse and throw money down to the peasants.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 24, 2021 9:59 PM |
I always tip them in cash.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 24, 2021 10:35 PM |
I hope you bitches tip in cash. Adding it to a credit card is no guarantee driver will get the tip.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 24, 2021 11:05 PM |
No cash - they see the tip and know to expect it.
