Activists protest outside J.K. Rowling’s house and reveal her address.

The 3 activists have deleted their Twitter after being canceled.

This is basically a trans publicity stunt

by Anonymousreply 1November 22, 2021 8:10 PM

Oh for God’s sake.

by Anonymousreply 2November 22, 2021 8:10 PM

Just because she said that biological women and transwomen do not have analogous life experiences?

by Anonymousreply 3November 22, 2021 8:20 PM

The spirits of all the trans people who were murdered or committed suicide weep for her.

by Anonymousreply 4November 22, 2021 8:21 PM

Go back and read what she said about trans people. There's nothing particularly controversial about it, it's just common sense.

by Anonymousreply 5November 22, 2021 8:27 PM

Hitting out at the trio, Rowling accused them of 'doxxing' her and trying to intimade her for 'speaking up for women's sex-based rights'. She named them as Holly Stars, Georgia Frost and Richard Energy.

She also revealed that she has received so many death threats over the trans row that she could 'paper the house with them'.

Holly Stars later posted a statement on social media saying they had removed the photo after being inundated with abuse. Stars is a popular drag queen with her own Amazon Prime series. She is also a stand-up comedian, comedy writer, cabaret host and seen as one of the UK's most popular drag talents.

She is the writer and star of west end show Death Drop, currently embarking on its first UK tour and also produces and presents a monthly Soho cabaret.

Richard Energy, one of the other activists, is a drag king and comedian who performs across London. He has appeared in several contests and is considered a growing star in the scene. Georgia Frost, the third activist, is an actress who has appeared in BBC productions including Casualty and sitcom The Other One.

All three activists have now taken down their Twitter accounts in light of the row.

Were she doxing them you can bet the British police would be knocking on JK's door.

by Anonymousreply 10November 22, 2021 8:44 PM

Shes actually not a billionaire. I read she would have been but she gave enough money to charities that she is a millionaire.

by Anonymousreply 11November 22, 2021 8:46 PM
Isn't she a Billionaire? And whybare they able to get in front of her home?

Because she doesn't live on a fortified island. She lives in a populous European city with roads and public thoroughfares.

I thought JK Rowling lived in some remote place in Scotland, for some reason.

[R12] You can't just drive up to Oprah's estate. Or the kardashian's or Rupert murdoch etc etc.

First of all: misplaced apostrophe. You wanted to type "the Kardashians'"--please make a note of it.

Second of all, I'm not sure where Rupert Murdoch lives, but Americans take celebrity security much more seriously than Britons do.

by Anonymousreply 19November 22, 2021 8:53 PM

JK Rowling lives in Edinburgh, which is where these little thugs were "protesting" her.

by Anonymousreply 20November 22, 2021 8:53 PM

It's hilarious that they're whining that she did to them what they're trying to do to her.

The Transgender Brigade is furious they haven't managed to cancel her. They really thought they had the power to take down the author of the most beloved children's book series in decades. with a multi billion dollar media/merch empire.

And, they've failed to crush Dave Chapelle, too.

Good.

by Anonymousreply 21November 22, 2021 8:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 22November 22, 2021 8:54 PM

A "villa" in Rowling's neighbourhood in Edinburgh just hit the market for £1.3 million, which is nothing in London terms for such a property and peanuts in US celebrity terms.

I can't believe how much they attack her for the mild statements she's made. She's not said they be killed or hurt or even treated badly--she's just said their experiences are not the same as those of cis-women, which is pretty much undeniable by any sane person.

I'm a college English teacher, and if I bring up her name in class, trans students will sometimes boo.

by Anonymousreply 25November 22, 2021 8:59 PM

Doxxing isn't good, but anyone who lives in Edinburgh could tell you where she lives, cause it's a big house with massive hedges. I remember when she was having the hedges cut, the cutter vehicles were in the road, causing traffic pissing people off.

Also, one of those Edinburgh bus tours include JK's house as one of their destinations - a bit like how London tour buses go by Buckingham Palace.

So yeah, not a nice thing to do, but Rowling is only pretending to give a shit because it gives her an excuse to post her repetitive Twitter threads and get patted on the back by the same people who kiss her arse all the time anyway.

by Anonymousreply 33November 22, 2021 11:06 PM

Yes, it’s ridiculous that Rowling could get upset about having her address posted simply because she’s had thousands of death threats.

by Anonymousreply 34November 22, 2021 11:09 PM

"anyone who lives in Edinburgh" is not the same as tweeting her address for the whole world to see, r33, or harassing her outside her house.

Does she really "piss off" the locals by getting her hedges clipped? I thought people were complaining that she wasn't having them pruned! I'm sure people could walk around for the couple of hours or whatever there were vehicles outside her place - that's what I have to do every day with the commuters who park on my street. Don't the neighbours also get their bushes trimmed?

She must think she's just like royalty if tour buses go past her house and Buckingham Palace!

I'm not sure about "repetitive" Twitter threads, because she doesn't actually post much. If you want to see what a real insane cult following looks like, take a look at the trans cult.

by Anonymousreply 35November 22, 2021 11:16 PM

R35 It pissed people off because they blocked the roads. Some of the anger probably comes from people who think "ugh I just wanna get to work and I'm being blocked by this rich bitch".

To be honest, the trans and TERF cults are both batshit crazy and two sides of the same coin.

I'm glad the homophobia of the transactivists is being exposed.

The survival of the gay community means distancing ourselves from transactivists and creating out own unique spaces.

by Anonymousreply 38November 22, 2021 11:25 PM

I was reading the other day about how 1% of landowners own over half of the land in the UK and that the sole corporation of the crown owns even more land than anyone ever thought because the property deeds in the name of the crown are hundreds of years old and aren't even on public record. UK seems like a shit hole.

by Anonymousreply 39November 22, 2021 11:28 PM

Some trans are so frightening. As I said before I tend to avoid the overly hysterical nutty ones (can be found on Twitter). Everything is transphobia to them.

by Anonymousreply 40November 22, 2021 11:29 PM

If this keeps escalating, some deranged person will probably attempt to assassinate her. Not joking, these people are crazy.

by Anonymousreply 41November 22, 2021 11:37 PM

R32 I'm glad people are finally starting to discuss this homophobic bullshit. The covert hostility to gay men from trans/queer activists is becoming more out in the open.

by Anonymousreply 42November 22, 2021 11:38 PM

R49, the days when Muriel would immediately delete any thread that suggested even any slight doubt about trans demands have long gone. You had better get used to it. You can't silence us any more, you actually need a better argument than "anti-trans" and "bigot". And there's nothing anti-trans about pointing out that some pathetic morons doxxed JK Rowling.

by Anonymousreply 50November 23, 2021 1:45 AM

“they're being censored when the thread is is just one or two of them working their sock puppets”. R49

Sock puppets = Significant Gay population with problems over this Socialist bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 51November 23, 2021 1:47 AM

R4 that would be zero of them. They are actually the safest demographic in European countries and pretty much most places except Brazil, and there they are killed because they are all prostitutes and drug addicts. Zero trans have been murdered in the UK for years.

There is no trans genocide, no trans are being murdered regularly any more than other groups, and especially not women, whose rights they are trying to usurp. It's all a lie. Rather than using the statistics to call attention to the problems in Brazil, they are using them to get sympathy for themselves everywhere else. They're using the deaths of actual people for their own purposes, which is sick.

by Anonymousreply 52November 23, 2021 1:50 AM

R30 they're all insane. It's a mental condition. They need therapy, not drugs and surgery. But they call therapy "conversion therapy" and are trying to get it banned. Like, it will be a crime to say "perhaps you're just gay?" to a 14 year old, or to do anything except push them to drugs and surgery for life.

Instead of trying to get more funding to find solutions to gender dysphoria (which is not even required to be trans anymore, according to trans activists) they have settled on drugs and surgery as the ONLY solution. Any other research is squelched for "transphobia".

" you actually need a better argument than "anti-trans" and "bigot". "

"And there's nothing anti-trans about pointing out that some pathetic morons doxxed JK Rowling."

Considering who the doxxers were, Rowling's anti-trans statements, and the subsequent comments posted on this thread, to claim this is just about doxxing is disingenuous at best and indicative of the fact that you yourself need a better argument.

by Anonymousreply 56November 23, 2021 2:30 AM

People are still posting her address on Twitter, some in plain English and others using a cipher

by Anonymousreply 64November 23, 2021 3:27 AM

Twitter support didn't do shit except MAYBE tell them to delete the original tweet.

Twitter support did not remove their accounts. If they had, it would say "Account suspended".

First they locked their accounts, then (I assume) renamed them. They are likely still locked and existing under different usernames. On the plus side that means the one drag queen who had the verified account may lose her verified status.

It's also likely that they have been approached by the police by now, and informed that they are in legal trouble. If a woman in Scotland can get prosecuted for posting a photo of a bow pin on her Twitter and a trans activist claiming it looks like a tiny noose and they felt afraid, they can damn well sure get prosecuted for this.

I hope Rowling destroys them. The TRAs need to know there are consequences for this shit.

by Anonymousreply 66November 23, 2021 3:28 AM

R64 they're most likely not UK residents so Rowling's options are limited there. They're like children with oppositional defiance disorder - they do whatever they want because they've been told not to do it. And they also don't see Rowling as human, they have "Othered" her with lies and slander, so anything they do is acceptable in their eyes.

But of course Rowling knew that it wouldn't disappear her address from the Internet. She posted what she did to send a warning message that there would be consequences for this sort of shit.

by Anonymousreply 67November 23, 2021 3:31 AM
Twitter support did not remove their accounts. If they had, it would say "Account suspended".

So many thoughts from this thread. Definitely need that tote bag and I'm glad to know Rowling keeps a neatly trimmed bush.

by Anonymousreply 69November 23, 2021 3:35 AM

As an aside, some of the articles they're posting saying that her house was already photographed are funny. First there's the article about the city ordering her to cut the (already existing) 30 foot tall cypress hedge running along the street because it was too tall and unruly.

Then there's another article from another paper interviewing her neighbors who are complaining that the street has been partially blocked off so the landscape crews can safely from these hedges that are facing the street. Like, it's not her fault that the city forced her to trim them.

In any case none of these articles divulge her actual address and the photos they show of the house have the address obscured. It's not that it was unknown or couldn't be discovered; it was the trans activists photographing themselves in front of her house with the address plainly visible, while they were holding trans protest signs. They were sending a message and a threat - see, we can get to you anywhere you are. And by the way, everyone, if you didn't know her address, here you go! Don't do anything crazy, now! *wink*

Anyone claiming otherwise or saying this is okay is either an idiot or lying.

by Anonymousreply 70November 23, 2021 3:36 AM

I'm so fucking sick and tired of seeing all these threads being posted here about a washed up, has been children's author whose only claim to fame of late is obsessing over the trans community. Like really, the only thing she's received publicity for in the last decade is her spat with trans rights activists. Can anyone name a single non-Harry Potter book that she's ever written? When you start becoming more known for your spats with people on Twitter than your actual literary work, you've lost the fucking plot and it's time to shut off the phone and get back to work.

Like with the endless spam threads on Meghan Markle and the royals, I really do feel that a subsection of British Daily Mail readers found their way here to post shit anonymously against Black people and other minorities. Really, get a fucking life. It's okay to discuss stuff from time to time, but it's an obsession with you people. It's annoying as shit and it needs to stop.

Not to mention that protesting outside of Rowling's [bold] castle [/bold] which has its own Wikipedia page is like protesting outside of Mar-A-Lago or the fucking White House. People do it all the time. Her safety was never at risk from three people holding signs outside of the gates. She and her deluded fan base need to get a fucking life.

R68 yes, nothing you posted invalidates or counters anything I said. Not sure why you seem to br framing it like you were.

Twitter Support does not delete accounts, it suspends them permanently. The only way it would show as deleted is if the people actually manually deleted their accounts, and I think that is highly unlikely for at least one of the accounts, as the account something like 60k followers. Publicity hungry drag queens will not want to give that up.

R71 It's not the same house.

And if she's so irrelevant, why are you lot so bothered about what she says?

by Anonymousreply 76November 23, 2021 4:01 AM

R73 in fact I ordered all her Cormoran Strike novels and her newest teen novel, The Christmas Pig, in support of her after the pile on began.

It's likely The Christmas Pig will get made into a movie or at least adapted into a short series, too. It's a cute book. I wanted the British version so I had it shipped from the UK the day it came out.

And... the Cormoran Strike series of novels has already been adapted into a well-received detective show playing on UK televisions, for four seasons now, and going into the fifth soon! It's called C.B. Strike. The trans issue didn't get the show cancelled, because people like it and don't care about TRA whining on social media.

It's being shown on HBO as well, renamed to "Strike".

So she's actually more successful than ever.

by Anonymousreply 77November 23, 2021 4:01 AM

R76 it infuriates them that they can't wish her into the cornfield. They want nothing more than to shut strong women up. So you have posters like the one above who simultaneously claim she's a has-been as well as claiming she's a transphobe when she is nothing of the sort. They WANT it to be true, but just like men can't become women and vice versa, they can't disappear her with tantrums, threats, and other bullying.

That's why whenever she posts anything, there's so many of them that post little nasty comments and just SEETHE, whereas the majority of comments are positive and supportive, so theirs really stand out as the childish tantrums they are. They aren't used to not getting their way.

That's also why when one of these threads appears there's always a few white knights who think they're going to shut them down by calling everyone transphobes or "anti-trans", whatever that means, usually posting "so exhausted y'all" exasperated sounding comments and simultaneously accusing the entire DL of transphobia as well as saying it's just one or two right wing trolls.

by Anonymousreply 78November 23, 2021 4:10 AM

Oh, and the majority of people who post slams against Rowling on Twitter or Reddit whenever she reminds them she exists, have no idea what she actually said or that she isn't a transphobe or anti-trans at all. And they likely don't even really care.

They just want the social validation. It's all performative assholery.
JK Rowling lives in Edinburgh,

Does she know Nicolas Fairford?

by Anonymousreply 97November 23, 2021 8:04 AM

R71 she wrote an adult novel called The Casual Vacancy, some Harry Potter spinoffs (that were turned into huge movies within the last seven or eight years), and some adult mystery novels.

All of which sell more than most writers could ever dream.

She's the most famous author in the world (with Stephen King).

So... there's that. And probably a lot more a quick Wiki search could help you with.

It's cool if you dislike her. But acting like she's somehow not relevant is poor logic given the glaringly obvious facts that prove otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 98November 23, 2021 8:48 AM

The Trans Murder Countdown thing is fucking ridiculous. We had a murder in our city recently...a young woman killed in rather nice neighborhood (that she didn't live in) when she confronted some dude who had "ripped" her off. Well, the dude killed her and then a few weeks later, it comes out she's trans and now it's a Trans Hate Crime even though there doesn't seem to be any indication at all that her trans identity had anything to do with her murder.

But, if you dare suggest that she wasn't murdered because of her identity, you'd get shouted down for being transphobic.....even though insisting her death MUST be related to her identity is actually even more transphobic.

by Anonymousreply 113November 23, 2021 2:37 PM

r103 SHE did nothing.

Three male trans activists decieded they wanted clout for their upcoming tour. Twitter reacted, and then she posted this thread:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 114November 23, 2021 2:41 PM

R102 it's used by gay Twitter, black Twitter, and/or also by scolds who usually use it to say things like "y'all I'm so exhausted. Here is your regular reminder that..." followed by some inane command, often coupled with "Do better" at the end.

Suspicion is a good start.

by Anonymousreply 115November 23, 2021 2:45 PM

R91 They should put their money where their mouth is and donate every penny they made from Rowling's creation, hm?

by Anonymousreply 116November 23, 2021 2:48 PM

Some of the responses from the trans/trans activists are "they shouldn't have done this BUT she had it coming for existing", some are "omg why won't she shut uppppppp", some are "well technically her house can be found via Google anyway so she's just grandstanding and people taking a photo holding trans signs in front of her address is in no way an obvious threat and invitation to others to harass her in real life", some are "fuck JK Rowling!" with no context (performative only).

And a very tiny, tiny few of them are like "this is never okay, full stop" without qualifications or reminding everyone how much they hate her and how she's somehow literally killing trans people by existing.

So very MALE reactions all around. Similar to how if a woman says she's been raped, you have a lot of the "yes but she was dressed like a slut" types coming out of the woodwork.

by Anonymousreply 117November 23, 2021 2:51 PM

R104 not yet, what's your address again?

by Anonymousreply 118November 23, 2021 2:53 PM

From what I've overheard here and there, these trans activists are shooting themselves in foot. They may have elite policy makers on their side, but rank-and-file folks are coming to see all trans as loons.

by Anonymousreply 119November 23, 2021 3:21 PM

These tranny terrorists are utter scum. I don’t want to be associated with them in any way.

by Anonymousreply 120November 23, 2021 3:22 PM

Everyone has the right to publicize their personal opinions. However, be prepared for whatever backlash follows.

Rowling should probably take a break from releasing statements and hire some security, put up some fencing, something. The world is filled with disturbed people. It always has been.

This same song and dance routine from the Datalounge obsessives is equally as crazy and annoying as the trans nonsense. I wish we could launch all of you into outer space and let you fight it out there.

by Anonymousreply 121November 23, 2021 3:25 PM

At some point the respectable trans - people who sincerely believe themselves in the wrong body and seeking to live their lives as best they can - will disown the activists, who act like angry lunatics. The whole point is a big enough challenge to sell with good manners, let alone raging and frothing at the mouth like these freaks.

"Y'all" 100% of the time denotes a condescending, woke scolding.

by Anonymousreply 125November 23, 2021 4:10 PM
hire some security, put up some fencing, something

She already has hedges/fencing and security, the address has been publicly known for years because it's her business address plus it's a tourist stop. It's been photographed in the news multiple times over the course of a decade because of neighbors complaining about the hedge and some treehouses she had put in. It's got its own Wikipedia page, plus it's an advertised stop on multiple local tours including one mentioned on the city of Edinburgh's official webpage.

When she moved from her previous home to this one, the Daily Mail had a lengthy article about both homes, giving locations of both.

None of that was doxxing but this is, supposedly.

by Anonymousreply 126November 23, 2021 4:20 PM

R126 there's a huge difference between them and making a photo directly in front of her house where she lives with her kids, with the address clearly visible and unblurred (and the photo taken so it is clearly visible), with three trans activists holding signs decrying her opinions, then posting said photo to social media in order to make sure as many people as possible see it, including Rowling herself.

That is them sending a clear message of intimidation, saying "see - we know where you live, and we can find you in real life. If you didn't know her address, you do now! Don't do anything crazy *wink*".

It is not activism, it is harassment and dangerous, because even though she may have security, all it takes is one nutjob to slip past it and cause her serious harm. And because she is being pilloried as subhuman, a woman that needs to be told to shut up and put in her place by a movement that is mainly led by aggressive males, it takes upon an even darker turn.

You are blind or lying if you can't see that. And in the UK, this sort of behavior is actually against the law, so yes, the police will be involved and those who attempted this act of clear physical, real life threatening intimidation will hopefully see justice served to them.

But please. Bleat more about how "trans are so oppressed" and clearly the victims in all this, and it's Rowling who is to blame for the crime of being a woman with a (correct) opinion that happens to piss off a lot of aggressive men.

by Anonymousreply 129November 23, 2021 5:48 PM

R125 that’s all very well and good. They however are inciting violence against her with their actions which is part of the reasons for doxxing but you know that already don’t you?

by Anonymousreply 130November 23, 2021 5:58 PM

If my car is stolen three times because I keep leaving the keys in it, that doesn't mean anything when the second and third thieves are in court.

All this whataboutism... remember back what wrong was wrong and right was right? The intent was obvious, whether the house has been seen a hundred times or none.

Maybe J.K. Rowling should do a sit down special with members of the Trans community where she can say what she means right in front of them on camera for a television audience.

Therefore, Trans people will see she's not an enemy. But someone whose just stating her view point as a woman etc. I bet something like that would get big ratings. Almost kinda like a "red table talk" type of format.

She has the power to set something up like that and bbc or channel 4 could air it. I'm sure she has enough pull to get something like that on the air in the UK. And whatever money is generated from that special. J.K. Rowling could just give it to some Trans organization etc.

Just an idea from an American looking at this mess.

by Anonymousreply 141November 23, 2021 9:56 PM

R141, Rowling wrote an essay to try to provide more nuance to her twitter comments on trans issues. It’s a pretty personal, sincere and balanced article, which tried to express respect for people as individuals and express a hope for understanding.

It was met by the usual “Burn the Witch” comments from the trans lobby.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 155November 24, 2021 12:03 AM

R141 As others have said, they would never sit down with her. Look up deplatforming:

quote]Deplatforming, also known as no-platforming, has been defined as an "attempt to boycott a group or individual through removing the platforms (such as speaking venues or websites) used to share information or ideas,"[1] or "the action or practice of preventing someone holding views regarded as unacceptable or offensive from contributing to a forum or debate, especially by blocking them on a particular website."[2]

And then ask yourself why they're so insistent on shutting down all forms of debate. If everything they say is factual, they should be able to win that debate, right?

by Anonymousreply 156November 24, 2021 12:16 AM

That too, r154! But at least Bruce knows he has a paraphilia (I suspect).

by Anonymousreply 157November 24, 2021 12:16 AM

I can completely understand why this doxing forced Rowling to comment. She has other homes, including one with 24 hour street security in London, but Edinburgh has been her home for decades. It’s where she has lived most of her adult life, before and after her great success.

She has brought up her children there. Her husband works locally as a doctor. And until now, even though she is richer than God, she has led as normal a life as possible. She lives in an extremely affluent area, with great public schools for her young son if she chose not to educate him in a state school. But Edinburgh (especially the wealthier parts) is a city with a very old-fashioned, middle-class sensibility: her neighbours would rather die than treat her differently because of her cash or her fame. Even though everyone knows who she is, I imagine it is one of the few places where she feels relatively normal. She is not going to get the same illusion of normality if she lives in a gated community in LA, or in a London townhouse.

It must be frightening to have a lifestyle you have come to love be jeopardised by three lunatic attention-seekers.

by Anonymousreply 158November 24, 2021 12:23 AM

Has anyone watched the drag queen protester’s Amazon special? Is it good? Does it get good reviews?

by Anonymousreply 159November 24, 2021 12:25 AM

It's absolutely delicious that Daniel Radcliffe et. al. who turned their backs on the women who made them rich and famous, are now being slammed by the transtapo.
Rowling wrote an essay to try to provide more nuance to her twitter comments on trans issues.
It was met by the usual “Burn the Witch” comments from the trans lobby.

I remember reading it. It is definitely long but as you said, it is personal and sincere. She clearly explains why she is not anti-trans but explains her stance as well. Shortly thereafter, I read responses from the militant trans women who described her essay as a "transphobic screed."

The amount of intellectual dishonesty and straight-up lying about what JK wrote in her essay is STAGGERING. It was clear they were not even reading her it but were using it as a vehicle to claim more false victimhood.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 161November 24, 2021 1:12 AM

R141 it would not work. Whoever "debated" her would be seen as a traitor and cast out of Trans, Inc., and it would depend entirely on the moderator knowing facts and figures and reality because most of the reason the trans say "no debate!" is because their claims fall apart under the slightest scrutiny. Hence the deception, lies, misdirection, and discredited scientific journals.

Also, they have the ability to read everything she has said now, and they don't. None of them will watch an entire special except maybe a handful, and it will be cut down to clips that eliminate nuance so she will be made to look as bad as possible. It will never work.

by Anonymousreply 162November 24, 2021 1:55 AM

R161 it just became another way they could gain social cred through performative displays of "virtue". Most of them never read it. And those that claim to have actually only seen the YouTube videos and Twitter threads where some activist "explains" what she REALLY meant and why it's caused 4848393 trans suicides every year. They are not genuine.

by Anonymousreply 163November 24, 2021 1:58 AM

R269 not Radcliffe, he was from an upper class family I think, or at least a very well off family. The others, yeah probably. Although in the UK a lot of actors are posh, definitely the most famous ones.

by Anonymousreply 164November 24, 2021 2:00 AM

Take a look at this thread posted by the ACLU's trans director lawyer Chase Stran*io. It's full of manipulative language, obfuscations, misdirection, over-the-top hyperbole, and lying.

The comments are great. She actually DOES give the impression as if she hates being a "man", knows deep down she made a mistake, and seems to want to force children to go through what she went through so that she has company in her utter misery.

This is her response to the Rowling post. Notice how she doesn't even pretend to care about the obvious threat and intimidation. She just frames it as Rowling using her huge platform to attack the forever weak, pitiful, fragile, sensitive trans. The 4th rate drag queens that prompted all of it? Totally ignored.

And of course she frames it around "the children" as if her goal was purely helping and saving them. Medical transitioning provides NO mental health benefit and trans people still need therapy to deal with their myriad issues.

I totally agree, r165, and I believe this about a lot of the trans activists. They still hate themselves, and even more than if they hadn't transitioned, but believe that the only way they can feel better about themselves now is if there are as many trans as possible, especially kids, so that they won't feel like such suckers for being the only idiot who did this to themselves. They need to convince themselves that it's essential for for people to transition otherwise they'll have to admit to themselves that they made a mistake.

by Anonymousreply 176November 24, 2021 11:59 AM

Of course r171, as a girl Chase could have been the butch, most masculine dyke. As a man, Chase looks like a joke. A transman will never be more "masculine" than a biological man. Same with transwomen. Tommy Dorfman was way more effeminate as a man. Now he's a huge, broad-shouldered, totally unfeminine "woman" with a weird, wonky face. He could have explored his "genderfluidity" much better as a man.

by Anonymousreply 177November 24, 2021 12:04 PM

Lol, Chase Strangio spouts all this bullshit about how "trans kids" are going to kill themselves if they can't play sports as the opposite sex, and then posts a photo of herself aged 8 at football practice. Chase, if trans kids are banned from playing sports then how comes you were playing football as a girl 3 decades ago?

by Anonymousreply 186November 24, 2021 1:17 PM

So, they hate JK because they were overly involved in HP modern fairytale franchise as children & she has, 'betrayed, failed them' because she dared to question their psychosis.

I think their parents failed them because they didn't read them the earlier fairytales. And yes, Harry Potter is a contemporary fairytale. Fairy tales are learning devices for children. How to count, what to do, what to avoid, who to avoid & watch out for, what good behavior has its awards, etc. The parents failed to read them The Emperor's New Clothes. As in don't follow the crowd who denies what is there, plain for everyone to see.

The hard part for me is seeing a friend who just like to wear ladyclothes & do makeup now get looked at harshly, when he just used to slide by in our small city.. More & more regular folks are getting sick of all this drum banging by obviously deranged people who are the ones really dangerous to children's bodies.
take note (and so will many others) about who of the Harry Potter cast stay silent on Twitter. It's all the actors I always loved the most (some long before HP too - I'm old.) Also Stephen Fry stays silent. I hope they won't break him.

Funny, that, given Fry shares a predilection with the Ts for very young chicken...

R185 She is mouthy, always has been. That has its pros and cons.

by Anonymousreply 195November 24, 2021 4:26 PM

Rowling rarely makes public statements and, when she does, it's for a good reason.

by Anonymousreply 196November 24, 2021 4:42 PM

R139 so I’ve been a straight man this entire time? Gosh, I’d best rush out get me some tools...🙄

by Anonymousreply 197November 24, 2021 5:05 PM

Well in happier news my younger brother announced he is detransitioning after many years believing he was trans. Apparently he had a major awakening. My mom is calling it a Christmas miracle.

by Anonymousreply 199November 24, 2021 5:43 PM

That's great news for your brother and your family, r199. How far gone in his transition was he, though?

by Anonymousreply 200November 24, 2021 5:47 PM

Your mom is a TERF. Why is it a Christmas miracle? Did she despise trans that much?

by Anonymousreply 201November 24, 2021 5:48 PM

All the best to your whole family this holiday season, R199. I hope your brother finds peace and happiness in the truth.

by Anonymousreply 202November 24, 2021 5:50 PM
How far gone in his transition was he, though?

He took estrogen hormones and grew his hair out, cut off his cock and balls, and shops at Sephora for makeup and Ross Dress for Less for dresses and pumps. All could be returned, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 203November 24, 2021 5:52 PM

R200, he's been on hormones since he was 17 and he is in his mid-20's now. He never had any surgeries thankfully.

by Anonymousreply 204November 24, 2021 6:55 PM

Are there any licensing requirements or peer review boards to regulate self-declared "Activists"?

The term has little meaning nowadays.

by Anonymousreply 205November 24, 2021 6:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 206November 24, 2021 7:09 PM
Also Stephen Fry stays silent. I hope they won't break him.

Stephen Fry recently posted, then deleted, a ridiculous video that "explained" intersex as a construct and why biological sex is a spectrum.

He's a typical posh British man who has serious misogyny problems.

A video (I think from QI) of Emma Thompson talking about how she terrorised him by showing him her breasts or taking her clothes off in front of him was recently shared widely on Twitter. Fry is the kind of gay misogynist who loathes the female body and is repulsed but it, but considers lesbians bigots for not being attracted to penises.

R204, I'm not R200 but I'm glad your brother hasn't had any surgery, there are detrans resources out there if he needs them and the r/detrans community on Reddit. This happy news is just in time for the holiday season, your mother is right, it is a Christmas miracle. Best wishes to you and your family.

Sorry to ask r204, but don't the hormones give him moobs?

by Anonymousreply 212November 24, 2021 8:05 PM

R207, Stephen Fry isn't as posh as he likes to appear. That's all part of his act.

by Anonymousreply 213November 24, 2021 8:06 PM

R207 he is of the age where he probably thinks that the nonbinaries are just like the cross dressing gender benders of his time.

The whole thing with the trans movement is that if you stop to think it through, you will come to an uncomfortable truth and realize you can't support the gender dogma. That's why "no debate!" and the mantras like "trans women are women, trans men are men" are a thing. It's a religion, and people react the same way they would if their religion was questioned.

They can't believe that people are actually concerned about children going on puberty blockers, they think we are disengenuous or lying and just using them as an excuse because we are "anti-trans". The reason for that is because if they start to think we are genuine in our concerns, they might have to consider why, and then their whole religion would be undermined.

That's why you have trolls like the handful haunting this thread and posting spiteful, pointless comments here and there. The only way they can hold onto their religion is by assuming we are arguing in bad faith, and thus they never really have to look into what is being done in their name, because then they might have to think it through themselves.

Far easier and safer for their own worldciew to just call us all "anti-trans" and other ad hominems.

by Anonymousreply 214November 24, 2021 8:49 PM

The community wanted a scapegoat who is conveniently famous and will give them both press and a chance to play victim, which is what society has pretty much come to. No matter who the hell you are.

by Anonymousreply 219November 24, 2021 9:52 PM

Lol r219, so biological sex doesn't exist because Rowling spoke out in favour of the UK taking in refugees. Ok...

Refugees are housed in special housing, not randomly in the community or in a stranger's house. A better parallel would be that all the gay men who argue that transwomen are women should suck pussy and all the lesbians who defend trans rights should be prepared to such transbian dick.

by Anonymousreply 220November 24, 2021 10:13 PM

R199/R204 congratulations to your brother and your family for escaping the clutches a very scary biomedical-industrial cult.

De-transitioners are very courageous—it takes guts to face one’s delusion about something so big and life-altering, and to go back and admit as much to the people one initially challenged over it.

Online, there is a massively-growing community of detransitioners supporting and helping and informing one another (though admittedly these are a majority FTMTF, so idk if your brother can relate...)

by Anonymousreply 224November 25, 2021 12:32 AM

JK reacts as if she is above criticism. She chose to diss a category of people. Thinking these people would not react to her demeaning characterizations is bizarre and beyond the norm. If one can't handle the obvious blowback, then don't start the shit.

by Anonymousreply 225November 25, 2021 12:57 AM

She did not diss anyone speaking truth.

by Anonymousreply 226November 25, 2021 12:59 AM

It's funny when idiots like r221 like to try to make someone they don't like into a demon, nitpicking at any little thing to try to tear them down, inventing new purity tests for them to fail in some manner, anything so they don't have to try to counter their arguments.

It's also very obvious, and cringeworthy.

These are also tactics used by right wingers in many countries - usually to tear down people wanting environmental change (oh, they flew on an airplane, nothing they say has relevance!!). Of course this purity test only applies to "mouthy" women who disagree with them.

And it's also just more of the same ad hominem attacks, because they can't argue against what she actually said. Quite boring actually.

by Anonymousreply 227November 25, 2021 1:27 AM

by Anonymousreply 229November 25, 2021 1:32 AM

R222 I hope you're joking. You're recycling homophobic arguments used against gay men and women for ages ("how do you know you won't like the opposite sex if you haven't tried it?")

We know.

And there isn't a plague of transphobia that needs to be "cured". Trans people are actually some of the safest demographics in the UK and in a lot of places. There is no epidemic of trans deaths, there's no need for "trans day of rememberance", unless you want to count the Brazilian transvestite hookers that get murdered frequently because they are drug addicts and prostitutes in a very dangerous part of the world, and they aren't killed any more than other minority groups there, either.

But I don't see any trans activist trying to save these Brazilian prostitutes. They just use the deaths to get to manipulate people in their own countries, where deaths due to transphobia are almost non-existent.

by Anonymousreply 230November 25, 2021 1:34 AM

by Anonymousreply 239November 25, 2021 7:56 AM

R207 I don't think he does the latter. Sad that they got to him.

by Anonymousreply 240November 25, 2021 8:10 AM

R143 I don't get this. I understand being dead against men who say they're trans but don't go on hormones or even think about gender reassignment surgery - so essentially they're men - in order to try to get into female prisons, for example. Fully understand that stance and support it.

However, in this case a tweet was posted by the Police that was intended to commemorate trans people who've died as a result of anti-transgender violence. Which seems fair enough to me, given commemorating anyone who's died from hate crimes is a noble thing to do.

So this woman then thinks it's appropriate to make a vexatious complaint to the Police because they haven't done the same for disabled people. Normally she targets the people in my first paragraph but now she's targeting the police for a tweet about trans people who've died. And people cheer her on for it?

by Anonymousreply 241November 25, 2021 6:07 PM

R241 because the whole "transgender day of remembrance" is just another way they manipulate the public by keeping alive this false idea that trans people are being persecuted, wiped out, and deserve special protection. It's a grift on the public and is not validated by actual fact. Trans people are one of the safest demographics in the UK.

The people complaining did so because they think the government agencies should not be taking sides in the gender debate, especially because of the way hate crimes are reported in the UK, which is it's based on if anyone FEELS that a hate crime was committed against them. That's all it takes to get a record on the books at the police department is for someone to say that you made them feel unsafe. In person, on Twitter, wherevrer.

The police posting things like this tells the people on the gender critical side that their voices don't matter and also shows that the police department has been won over by the gender cult. Since the trans activists have been using the police as a weapon by filing vexatious complaints against people based on tweets they don't like, it is an actual concern as it shows the police are not impartial.

There is an additional layer here where trans are trying to get police departments from recording crimes with the sex of the offender, which is a valuable statistic. A bunch of police departments have been following that lead (led by organizations like Stonewall UK) and that is also something the gender critical are pushing back on, this far unsuccessfully.

Hope that clears up any confusion.

Owen's never made a casual observation in his life, has he? I keep recalling the line from a week or so ago: the political spectrum isn't a line, but a circle, and the fair right and far left end up standing shoulder to shoulder.

by Anonymousreply 245November 25, 2021 6:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 246November 25, 2021 6:39 PM

R143, who exactly has died from "anti-trans violence". Very few trans people are killed, in the US or globally and practically none ever in the UK. And when they are killed, it is rarely because of their trans identity. "Transgender Day of Remembrance" is a manipulative propaganda tool to ram through the trans agenda. Fewer than 400 people were killed globally in 2021 for being trans.

by Anonymousreply 247November 25, 2021 6:47 PM

Only men are allowed to define womanhood. Actual women are to shut up and know their place!

by Anonymousreply 248November 25, 2021 7:15 PM

Actually, R39, the UK is gorgeous. The English pay the most in taxes, but receives the least in public expenditures. English taxpayers literally subsidise Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

by Anonymousreply 249November 25, 2021 7:34 PM

R242 I mean, it clarifies the position but I can't agree with it. Her stance reminds me of when homophobes see a Pride Event and say: "omg why isn't there a straight pride?"

Or when prats like Laurence Fox try to downplay racism and say the UK is open and accepting - so there's no need for the BLM movement, etc.

by Anonymousreply 250November 25, 2021 7:58 PM

r247 and most of them were in Brazil, where they are cross dressers and are killed because Brazil is a violent, lawless place, they are drug addicts or pushers, and prostitutes - not because they are trans. You don't hear any of the trans organizations calling for specific reform in Brazil, where the problem is occurring. The statistics are used to globally boost the numbers so that trans can continue the myth (started by themselves) that they are the most persecuted victims ever. They even have made the claim that they are the true victims of the Holocaust because they were allegedly the first ones Hitler targeted. They mourn the shutting down of the German Sex Institute (by Hitler) where they were performing gender change surgeries on gay men in order to turn them "straight", and performing experiments on gay men such as transplanting testicles from more "masculine" people (and animals, I think) to try to turn them straight. And they think that was progressive.

by Anonymousreply 251November 25, 2021 9:15 PM

r250 I realize this isn't exactly your point, but there actually isn't a large need for the BLM movement in the UK, the UK does not have the history that the US does as far as having black slaves (at least locally). They actually have a lot more public visibility of different races through their public networks and newspapers. There's general racism but it's moreso for Islamic types and Eastern Europeans. You can't film anything in the UK without having to have a diverse cast, either.

BLM makes more sense in the US where we have a specific problem with police targeting black people as well as a general network of laws and restrictions that were originally designed with subjugating black people in mind.

by Anonymousreply 252November 25, 2021 9:20 PM

Has Owen ever addressed the fact that his bestie Juno Dawson thinks that like all gay men he's really a woman and just a coward for not transitioning?

by Anonymousreply 253November 25, 2021 9:25 PM

R249 seriously!

English poster here, and have moved recently to South Wales (to care fot my grandmother in her old age), and it’s staggering how much better and cleaner and more affordable everything is here than England, especially in the towns & cities. The Welsh don’t pay for medicine, for higher education, for many municipal services, for which the English have to shell. I’ve found food and petrol prices are also less ridiculous, and emergency services much faster to respond.

I was only meant to be here temporarily as a stand-in carer, but after nearly a year of much more reasonable standards of living I think I shall stay put as long as I can. Or otherwise, head for suburban-rural Scotland, if it comes to it—I don’t mind fierce cold weather that much, or remote areas.

I do still love my home England more dearly than anywhere else in the world that I’ve been (I was lucky enough to grow up in the Midlands countryside), but thanks to rising inflation and living costs, plus wealthy townies and peers and celebrities buying up land and property, as someone who isn’t loaded it simply becoming difficult to stay in England and have a nice quality of life.

by Anonymousreply 254November 25, 2021 9:25 PM

R252 What was even stupider is that BLM UK said their issue was black deaths in police custody proving racism - but the statistics showed that the number of the black people dying in custody was actually slightly less percentage-wise than the amount of black people in the population.

And then of course one of the BLM UK leaders got shot, and everyone who witnessed it refused to give a statement to the police.

by Anonymousreply 255November 25, 2021 9:26 PM

r250 it's not the same thing as straight people whining about gay pride at all, though. Gay people are persecuted everywhere in the world with a few exceptions in Western countries. Trans people are actually ENCOURAGED in places like Iran, so that if the person has gender change surgery the person is no longer considered gay and therefore isn't an abomination. That is because trans encourages and reinforces gender stereotypes. Even the nonbinary trans express their specialness by utilizing gender stereotypes.

Again, trans are under no specific threat, and what they really mean when they are "fighting for trans rights" is that they want to take rights away from another protected group - women. There's anti-persecution laws already on the books in most Western countries, specifically for trans.

They also want things like free gender change surgeries (essentially all plastic surgery) and they want gender change surgeries prioritized at the same level as having a tumor removed because of the threat that if they don't get what they want, they will kill themselves. Yet they actively fight against mental health initiatives to learn more about treating gender dysphoria (gender change surgery has been shown NOT to have any specific mental health benefit) on the claim that this is "conversion therapy".

It just is not the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 256November 25, 2021 9:27 PM

r255 yeah, they are an offshoot org in search of a problem to fight against.

by Anonymousreply 257November 25, 2021 9:31 PM

R254 Oh god, look at this idiot, lived in Wales for a short time and now thinks he knows everything about the country. You do realise the Welsh do pay taxes right? Yes there is a 'subsidy' amount, but most of that is spent on non-devolved areas. Plus it's more expensive to deliver public services in rural areas.

by Anonymousreply 258November 25, 2021 9:33 PM

R250, let's take the the verifiable statistics of violent crimes against women.

There's tons more bio women than trans who are prostitutes and who vanish without trace or are killed. So where's that Women's Day of Remembrance?

by Anonymousreply 259November 25, 2021 9:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 260November 25, 2021 9:35 PM

R259, it's mostly straight men who murder them. But rednecks like you thinks trans people are a bigger problem than misogynist straight men

by Anonymousreply 261November 25, 2021 9:36 PM

R261 Another ad hominem and moving of the goalposts rather than engaging with the actual argument.

I'd be fascinated to know where in South Wales you are because the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust is one of the poorest performing ambulance trusts in the UK.

As for free medicine, yes prescriptions are free but barely 10% of people in England pay for theirs.

And Welsh students still have to pay university tuition fees if their parents earn over a certain amount.

The idea that Wales has better public services than England is hilarious, and I've spent my life working in the Welsh public sector.

by Anonymousreply 263November 25, 2021 9:40 PM

Will we see protesters outside Alice Sebold's house? Or is she teflon?

by Anonymousreply 264November 25, 2021 9:41 PM

R260 welcome to the thread. Perhaps you should read some of it, any of it, before dumping yet another ad hominem attack in lieu of discussing any of the issues raised by "this woman" or the posters here. It's tiresome and boring.

I will comment on the "people who are against gay marriage" remark though - I think I know what you are referring to (even if you don't and are just parroting something you saw elsewhere on social media). It may surprise you to learn that there is a subset of gay people, and in this specific case a radical feminist, who don't think gay marriage is the solution to gay equality. The reason behind that is not any sort of religious or right-wing stance, though - it is because they don't think we, as gay people, should be copying the norms and customs of straight people. They look back at the entire reason marriage was invented and think - no. We do not want this for ourselves. They want something new for gay people that is wholly ours, and they don't want to call it what they see is the tired and misogynistic "marriage", when women were property.

Keep in mind women are still property in a lot of the world, and in the US for example they've only had the ability to vote for the past hundred years. So I can understand her logic and reasoning even if I don't agree with it myself.

If you just read the headline, you would never know or understand the reasoning behind that sort of thinking. I've not even done it the justice it deserves, just sharing what I have read of WHY they think that, because I was curious, too. Like most things, the devil is in the details.

by Anonymousreply 265November 25, 2021 9:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 269November 25, 2021 9:49 PM

r268 that wasn't what he was referring to. I think it's Julie Bindel who has said in the past she didn't agree with the idea of gay marriage, for the reasons I mentioned in r265.

Incidentally I was living in Ireland when the gay marriage referendum passed. I remember getting knocks on my door multiple times for people wanting to get out the vote. It was a real win and young people like them made it happen.

by Anonymousreply 270November 25, 2021 9:49 PM

r269 it's unlikely that would ever happen in a childrens' movie, which Harry Potter is marketed to. Based on what Rowling has said I expect she wishes it were otherwise. Hopefully we will at least get more than thinly-implied romance though.

by Anonymousreply 271November 25, 2021 9:51 PM

Oh also to add to r265 - the whole "x is against conversion therapy!" claim (another claim I've seen people making in regards to Rowling) comes from something like that, too. The issue is that trans activists are trying to get saying "what if you're just gay and not actually the opposite sex?" and helping children work through their gender dysphoria with talk therapy, outlawed, and they are attaching it (like they have most other things) to legislation that is intended to outlaw gay conversion therapy. Gender critical people are trying to stop that attachment from happening.

by Anonymousreply 272November 25, 2021 9:55 PM

R265 If they don't want to get married, because they don't like the concept of marriage, then they're free not to get married.

The idea of a group of gay people wanting to deny all gay people the choice of getting married just because they themselves don't want it is pretty shitty.

by Anonymousreply 273November 25, 2021 10:02 PM

I don't think any gay people were trying to deny other gays the right to get married, r273.

by Anonymousreply 274November 25, 2021 10:06 PM

R261, of course straight men are a problem. Look at how many natal women they kill every year. The number of natal women killed by men every year is way higher than the number of trans women who die via any cause during a year.

by Anonymousreply 275November 25, 2021 10:06 PM

R273 Sounds like Julie Bindel was. The poster above said she was against gay marriage because she didn't think "we, as gay people, should be copying the norms and customs of straight people".

I'm a single gay guy and I may never want to get married - but I want any gay couple who do to have the option. Not ban it because it's a thing straight people do (which is naff reasoning and creates an us vs them mentality).

by Anonymousreply 276November 25, 2021 10:14 PM

Do you have any evidence that Julie Bindel actively campaigned against same-sex marriage being passed, r276?

by Anonymousreply 277November 25, 2021 10:15 PM

R277 Nope, but I wasn't the one who made the claim. You should direct your question towards R265 / R270.

by Anonymousreply 278November 25, 2021 10:20 PM

They never made that claim, you're misinterpreting them as saying that Bindel opposed same-sex marriage for others, when what that poster is saying (albeit not entirely clearly) is that Bindel has a position against marriage as an institution for all. She never tried to stop same-sex marriage or said the government should abandon its plans, she simply gave her overall opinion on marriage. Which is her right. But the anti-gay liars of Stonewall and similar trans lobby groups, who are trying to destroy the LGB Alliance - which Julie Bindel isn't part of - keep coming out with this bullshit that LGB Alliance opposes gay marriage. They also come out with similar bullshit about JK Rowling, claiming she uses the pseudonym Robert Galbraith because she supports gay conversion therapy. It's all bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 279November 25, 2021 10:41 PM

Well, I can maybe be forgiven for thinking that was her stance, when you read interviews she's given - I can't post links here but was reading one where she said men should be locked up in camps... I know we shouldn't feed attention seekers, but it was bizarre for even her.

by Anonymousreply 280November 25, 2021 11:27 PM

Of course you can't post a link for that r280 because she didn't say it.

by Anonymousreply 282November 25, 2021 11:38 PM

Lol r282. She's being silly - not serious.
I mean, I would actually put them all in some kind of camp where they can all drive around in quad bikes, or bicycles, or white vans. I would give them a choice of vehicles to drive around with, give them no porn, they wouldn’t be able to fight – we would have wardens, of course! Women who want to see their sons or male loved ones would be able to go and visit, or take them out like a library book, and then bring them back.

by Anonymousreply 283November 26, 2021 12:01 AM

R279 Remarkably hypocritical of Stonewall, given they didn't support gay marriage until October 2010.

by Anonymousreply 284November 26, 2021 12:26 AM

r273 There's a difference between having an opinion and actively campaigning against it, soliciting for money to stop gay marriage, etc. - she did none of those things. You seem to be assuming that just because she is known for having that view that somehow she had influence on policy. Clearly she didn't. And that isn't a unique view among certain feminists and gay people. So frown upon the view all you like, but it's silly to blame Rowling for retweeting someone who has a fairly classic feminist view about marriage, gay or straight, that was totally unrelated to the issue at hand and had no impact on anything.

It is just YET ANOTHER ad hominem attack, because it is apparently much easier to do that and set up all of these weird purity tests than it is to actually engage in debate or arguments over the issues being raised. And it's beyond tiresome!

by Anonymousreply 285November 26, 2021 2:57 AM

r283 Trans activists and useful idiots have no sense of humor, especially not if they're looking for an ad hominem to use so they don't have to debate! Honestly this is exactly how the right wing acts.

r278 You're totally misreading what I wrote, then. I never said that Bindel ~campaigned~ against gay marriage, merely that she had an opinion on it, and the entire reason I mentioned her at all was because I was trying to explain the vague reference an earlier poster made to "Rowling retweeting someone who opposed same sex marriage". By itself, that claim makes one think of some religious right nutjob, and that is not Bindel at all. But to understand that, you'd have to know what you were talking about and not just be reposting someone else's content and context-free tweet-length comment.

DO BETTER. If you're going to show up and start slinging mud, KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

by Anonymousreply 286November 26, 2021 3:03 AM

My concern is more for poor, exploited kids like Jazz Jennings. Jazz's life is utterly destroyed because adults decided for him that he should change his sex.

A grown man or woman deciding to go through with transitioning - that's on them. They are old enough to decide and I wish those who choose to do so only the best.

by Anonymousreply 287November 26, 2021 3:08 AM

r283 the fact that anyone willfully misread that and then used it to attack Bindel is beyond parody. It shows you the dishonesty inherent in these sorts of activists, and/or the level of autism in people who can't detect humor (the trans community on the whole has a much higher amount of autistic members than other communities). The fact that people uncritically repeat what these people then claim is a big part of the problem.

Whenever I have seen people try to show Rowling's actual words - what she wrote about gender theory and trans - there's almost always someone who posts a YouTube link or a link to someone else's 84 part Twitter thread that ostensibly "debunks" what Rowling has said in its entirety. But the chances of them having read either what Rowling said, or what the activist wrote to try to defuse her arguments, are slim to none.

I've read those threads, and watched those YouTubes, and they don't do what the people claim. Instead they are just the same techniques used elsewhere, which is a hodgepodge of logical fallacies, debunked or misinterpreted scientific studies, unscientific Twitter polls, and emotionally manipulative specious claims, among others.

by Anonymousreply 288November 26, 2021 3:12 AM

r287 I agree with your concern for child safeguarding. I also think there needs to be more research into gender dysphoria and treatment options. If nothing else, getting mental health treatment for gender dysphoria slows down the process, because the statistics show that the overwhelming majority of children and teens with dysphoria grow out of it. I do not understand the mentality among trans activists that they have to RUSH to get these gender dysphoric kids into lifelong medical treatment before they have a chance to grow out of it - which again, is much more likely than the other way around - and I can only come to the conclusion that there is malicious intent behind it.

Of course, if these kids are pumped full of messages saying they are at high risk of committing suicide without what is billed as the only method for treating gender dysphoria (medical intervention), then they may not even grow out of it because they're led to think that this solution is the quick-fix for all of their problems. It may even lead them to try to commit suicide, because if they are refused medical intervention, then they have the message that suicide or horrific suffering is the only alternative.

The current environment is that it's transphobic and "conversion therapy" to try to find a method other than lifelong medical intervention, because "if a person says they are trans, they are, and have always been trans, no debate." which just reinforces all of the above.

r290 that article has a pretty good summary of what kids and parents get told by actual medical professionals. THIS is a big part of the problem.

Institutionalized blackmail of parents and mutilation of kids. One could also say, a kind of forced eugenics.
In a report seen by The Telegraph, 197 prisoners serving sentences in England and Wales identified as transgender in 2021, a 21 per cent jump from 163 in 2019.
In a separate category are offenders who hold a gender recognition certificate (GRC), a document that legally recognises their change in gender. This year’s Offender Equalities Annual Report is expected to confirm for the first time that the number of prisoners who hold a GRC is 23, although it is understood that the figure is still being investigated.
Of the 197 prisoners who are living as the opposite gender in prison, but not legally recognised as such, the overwhelming majority were men identifying as women, the figures show.
“When asked about the gender with which the prisoner identified from the following categories, 146 identified as female, 39 as male, 11 as non-binary and one did not provide a response," the Offender Equalities Annual Report states.
The report, which found that more than half of prisons (56 per cent) in the country had one or more transgender inmate, acknowledges that the figures are “likely to underestimate” the true number of prisoners who identify as the opposite gender.
In 2016, 70 prisoners identified as transgender. This increased to 125 in 2017, 139 in 2018 and 163 in 2019. No data was collected in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Of the 163 prisoners who identified as the opposite gender in the 2019 report, 130 identified as female, 20 as male and 13 did not provide a response.
Campaigners said the figures show a “significant yearly increase in the number of male prisoners identifying as transgender”.
“As the numbers increase, so does the risk to women in prison due to MoJ policies that permit some of these prisoners to be housed in the female estate,” Kate Coleman, from Keep Prisons Single Sex, said.
The latest figures come after a landmark ruling in the High Court this summer in which senior judges concluded that it was lawful to house transgender women, who were born men, in the female prison estate.
The Fairness For All Act (FFAA), an all-Republican bill that would make SOGI a federally protected class in return for certain “right to discriminate” carve-outs for dissenting religious institutions, was originally introduced in 2019 by Representative Chris Stewart of Utah. Stewart, whose district went for Donald Trump by 16 points in 2020 — up two from 14 points in 2016 — reintroduced the bill at the outset of the 2021 congressional session with the backing of such well-known Republicans as Elise Stefanik, Nancy Mace, and Burgess Owens.

[…]
And even on their own terms, those religious exceptions are questionable. FFAA protects the conscience rights of defined religious institutions — churches, religious charities, and so on. It does not protect most individuals, even if those individuals object to something like gender ideology on an authentically religious basis. Most businesses with more than 15 employees are subject to the legislation’s definition of “public accommodations,” meaning that they would run afoul of civil-rights law for objecting to the progressive line on gender and sexuality.
But FFAA’s threats to the American constitutional order go above and beyond the rights of religious individuals and business owners. So-called “trans-exclusionary radical feminists” who reject gender ideology on the grounds that it erases women, physicians who do not want to mutilate children’s bodies by prescribing puberty blockers or performing irreversible sex-change surgeries, coaches who want to protect their female athletes from biologically male competitors, and any number of other secular dissenters from gender ideology are not afforded rights under FFAA’s framework. Rather, acting on the belief that men and women exist as distinct biological categories — let alone the belief that men and women exist for one another, both in terms of sexual ethics and the definition of marriage — would be viewed as legitimate only on religious grounds, and relatively narrow ones at that.
This is perhaps the most fundamental problem with the law, from a traditionalist perspective: By making SOGI a protected class in the eyes of the federal government, FFAA encodes into American law the fundamental lie that men can become women.
It’s also why the majority of the House GOP has not bought into the arguments made by FFAA’s Republican backers. “What this bill will do is use the hammer of the law to bludgeon people into submission who have dissenting views,” says Vicky Hartzler (Mo.), a strong opponent of the bill who is running for Senate in Missouri in 2022.

Homophobic Republicans would rather have "straight" trans kids than gay ones.

Ray Blanchard on transgender women:
categorizes trans women (that is, natal males who identify as women) into two discrete groups.
The first group is composed of ‘androphilic’ (sometimes termed ‘homosexual’) trans women, who are exclusively sexually attracted to men and are markedly feminine in behaviour and appearance from a young age. They typically begin the process of medical transition before the age of 30.
The second group are motivated to transition as a result of what Blanchard termed ‘autogynephilia’: a sexual orientation defined by sexual arousal at the thought or image of oneself as a woman. Autogynephiles are typically sexually attracted to women, although they may also identify as asexual or bisexual. They are more likely to transition later in life and to have been conventionally masculine in presentation up until that point.
Although Blanchard’s typology is supported by a wide range of sexologists and other researchers, it is strongly rejected by most trans activists who dispute the existence of autogynephilia.
I think that's really key. Gay people did not ask straight people to redefine their entire existence. We wanted our rights, and to be left alone. The trans/queer lobby is trying to make everybody else do their work.

And that's why the gay equality movement was so sustainable - decades of patient work, which included sitting down with some very nasty people and explaining we weren't trying to change their lives in any way. And now that's all at risk because the trans took over gay movements and they aren't willing to actually work at anything - just demanding people obey, in turn causing a backlash not just against them but against gay people too.

Of course most of these trans activists don't give a shit about that, because they aren't actually trans.

Some schools will fire you for that, R355; absolute submission is often required, partial compliance and compromise are not acceptable.
In the summer of 2018, a transgender student at West Point High School in West Point, Va., had transitioned, asking his French teacher to refer to him with masculine pronouns: he, him, his.
But the instructor, Peter Vlaming, did not comply, he said in a lawsuit. Citing his religious beliefs, he promised to use only the student’s name and avoid pronouns entirely. Administrators, he said, eventually gave the teacher an ultimatum: use the student’s correct pronouns or face disciplinary action.
Then, on Oct. 31, 2018, his second-year French students wore virtual-reality goggles and walked around the classroom. The transgender student seemed about to crash when the teacher told another student to help.
“Don’t let her hit the wall,” Vlaming shouted.
That was the last straw for the student, who withdrew from Vlaming’s class. But it was also the last straw for school officials, who suspended the teacher for insubordination, and from the school board, which later fired him, citing how Vlaming had repeatedly ignored orders from his bosses.

That was actual malice, r369.

I have no issue for somebody completely switching their pronouns. Whatever. It's when they insist on these weird combinations that aren't even natural to the English language. And it's happening - just within the last year it has proliferated a surprising amount at my college. I have a student who is female, presents as a woman, yet insists on using she/them. I can't even begin the comprehend the level of narsicism that entails - it's puts the burden of your identity on everybody else.

Oh, and DIAGF, r356. It's not the same, AT ALL.

r355 Why do only mental women with "he/him" (and vice versa) deserve your respect while the same with "she/they" "they/them" "he/they" don't?

If it's due to "undue burden, "not natural" (because he/him women are...?) "you putting extra work" "exhausting" "best limit one can do", then it's not really about respect (that they demand) to begin with but only about selfish, smug feeling of "selective" acts of righteous justice...?

by Anonymousreply 388November 28, 2021 3:21 AM
It's the they/them and he/then and she/them that are, frankly, putting an undue burden on others.

I've said this before - the you-need-to-guess-my-pronouns game is manipulative behavior. It is DESIGNED to put other people at a disadvantage, and unfortunately it works because we have all been trained to call people by the terms they prefer.

But the only way to stop it is to refuse, and say, You need to choose one.

by Anonymousreply 389November 28, 2021 3:50 AM

Every time I come across a 'my pronouns' person I want to ask them:

Did they not teach you grammar at school?

Do you not know what language is and how it functions?

If you want to invent your own language just to "express identity", go ahead. But since I don't share your identity, I won't be sharing this "language" either.

by Anonymousreply 396November 28, 2021 3:25 PM

Do you know what fascism is, R394?

Here are three definitions:
1) “Fascism is the pursuit of a transcendent and cleansing nation-statism through paramilitarism.”
Definition of terms:
· Transcendence: Belief that the state can transcend social conflict and blend all social classes into a harmonious whole. Belief in the power of political ideology to transcend human nature and produce a better world.
· Cleansing (ethnic): Favoring one or more ethnic or racial groups over others, either by granting special privileges or imposing disabilities; deportation of ethnic minorities, or worse.
· Cleansing (political): Silencing the political opposition so that the transcendent aims of fascism can be realized. Restricting the freedom of speech, outlawing opposition parties, imprisoning political opponents (or worse) and indoctrinating youth in fascist principles.
· Statism: Promoting a high degree of state intervention in personal, social, or economic matters. Belief that the state can accomplish anything.
· Nationalism: Traditional nationalism holds that the common good can best be realized through the inherent unity of a population with distinct linguistic, physical, or cultural characteristics, and its identification with a nation-state. This form of nationalism is benign, as the Swiss and Danes illustrate. Malignant nationalism holds that the nation possesses special attributes that make it superior to other nations in most or all ways. This form is potentially dangerous, and became so in fascist states.
· Paramilitarism: "Grass roots", populist squadrism aimed at coercing opponents and obtaining popular approbation by acting as a supplementary police force.
2) “Fascism may be defined as a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy and purity, in which a massed-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external explansion.”
3) “Fascism is a form of political and social behavior that arises when the middle class, finding its hopes frustrated by economic instability coupled with political polarization and deadlock, abandons traditional ideologies and turns, with the approbation of police and military forces, to a poorly-defined but emotionally appealing soteriology of national unity, immediate and direct resolution of problems, and intolerance for dissent.”

To summarize all three definitions: A fascist ideology is a poorly defined but emotionally appealing ideology that is enforced by elites and grass roots militants intolerant of dissent. It is obsessed with victimhood, abandons democratic liberties and established truths, favors one group over another and grants that group special privileges while silencing any opposition, restricting freedom of speech, enacting a state mandated unifying language and indoctrinating youth. Fascists use coercion, intimidation and violence to systematically eliminate non-believers without legal repercussions.

This describes right wing ideology and transgender ideology but it does not describe so-called terfdom.

The article at R406 explains that Selena Reyes-Hernandez, a 37 year old who picked up a teenage high school student or sex, had had her vital records changed.
I reached out to the medical examiner’s office about the most recent deadnaming incident and was told they are required to report what is known in vital records. The medical examiner personnel indicated that if someone wishes to have their vital records changed to reflect authentic name and gender marker, resources are available. This is true, but Black and Latinx transgender people have disproportionately more difficulty accessing these resources, with financial and legal barriers preventing them from updating their own records. These barriers must be removed.

So despite provisions being in place for self ID, this trans person didn't change their legal records.

I clicked on that news without realising it was Penis News.

Then saw another story about Freddie McConnell, the trans man who is angry that he is recorded as the legal mother of the baby who grew in his womb and was delivered by being pushed out of Freddie's vagina.

Apparently there are THOUSANDS of LGBTQIA+ people affected by the birthing parents being recorded as the mother, and Freddie is being FORCED to travel to Sweden to give birth to his second child, again using his vagina, to be recorded as the child's father.

These are two quotes from the article
his situation is particularly acute for families where one or more parents are trans or non-binary: as PinkNews reported last month, thousands of British children are being disadvantaged from the moment they’re born by an archaic UK law from the 1950s that insists whoever gives birth to a baby can only be recorded as the mother on the birth certificate.
“As an almost-comically rough guide, a bit of data from the Australian government (captured unintentionally) showed that 22 trans men gave birth there in 2018 alone,” Freddy McConnell adds. “Australia has a relatively small population of about 25 million. “Anecdotally, I estimate there to be thousands of families with birthing dads in the world and certainly many thousands with a trans parent of any kind.”

by Anonymousreply 411November 30, 2021 2:57 PM

How do these people not understand that a birth certificate is not FOR the parents, and is not OWNED by the parents? It is the infant's, period-- and that infant has every right to know who gave birth to him/her. These people who whine constantly about "deadnaming" and "wrong pronouns" are perfectly fine with confiscating and altering someone else's first medical and legal document, all while using deceptively folksy language such as "birthing dads." They are vile.

by Anonymousreply 412November 30, 2021 3:20 PM

According to Freddie, mother of two, quoted at r411:

“Anecdotally, I estimate there to be thousands of families with birthing dads in the world and certainly many thousands with a trans parent of any kind.”

Really? Thousands out of over 7 billion? And the whole world is supposed to turn itself upside down for a few 1000 people who can't accept their birth sex?

by Anonymousreply 413November 30, 2021 3:54 PM

The Adrian Harrop medical tribunal concluded yesterday and he was suspended from practice for a month.

I didn't realise the extent of his harassment against Caroline Farrow. She appeared on Question Time a few years ago opposing same sex marriage and was promptly put in her place by people presenting an opposing case, not making threats or insults about her and her children.

This how the BBC's former LGBT correspondent Ben Hunte reported it, having previously published an interview with Harrop that was entered into evidence against Harrop.
