New lead in the search for Jimmy Hoffa

The latest effort appears to be tied to interviews given by a man named Frank Cappola, who was a teenager in the 1970s. He said he worked at the old PJP Landfill in Jersey City with his father, Paul Cappola.

Cappola said his dying father in 2008 explained how Hoffa’s body was delivered to the landfill in 1975, placed in a steel drum and buried with other barrels, bricks and dirt, according to Moldea.

Paul Cappola, worried that police might be watching that day, dug a hole on New Jersey state property, about 100 yards from the landfill, and dumped the unmarked barrel there, Moldea said Friday.

“Then he put 15 to 30 steel drums on top of it, which were filled with toxic adhesives, and bulldozed the area flat,” Moldea said.

OP, you don’t know nuthin. You ain’t seen this article.

Do I make myself clear?

by Anonymousreply 1November 19, 2021 11:07 PM

Jimmy’s fine. He sends his love.

by Anonymousreply 2November 19, 2021 11:19 PM

Given that he disappeared in Detroit, why would he have been taken (dead or alive) to New Jersey?

by Anonymousreply 3November 19, 2021 11:28 PM

Apparently you can move 100 yards away and can dig a hole big enough for 15-30 barrels to fit in and the police will not see it. Not to mention that 15-30 is not something anyone would say.

by Anonymousreply 4November 19, 2021 11:36 PM

Hey, No Nads, good to see ya here, paisan.

Don’t forget to take care of that ting.

by Anonymousreply 5November 19, 2021 11:39 PM

All his sons became Lawyers.

by Anonymousreply 6November 19, 2021 11:41 PM

It is my understanding that Hoffa was shot in Detroit then taken to and reduced to dust at a mob owned crematorium.

by Anonymousreply 7November 19, 2021 11:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 8November 19, 2021 11:53 PM

He is Q.

by Anonymousreply 9November 19, 2021 11:54 PM

Frankie? What are ya doin’? You nuts?

by Anonymousreply 10November 19, 2021 11:55 PM

The rumor used to be he was buried under Giants stadium.

by Anonymousreply 11November 20, 2021 12:00 AM

[quote] Given that he disappeared in Detroit, why would he have been taken (dead or alive) to New Jersey?

Maybe whoever ordered the hit was in Jersey and wanted to see the body. Also, you want to keep an eye on the burial site in case anybody’s gonna dig it up for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 12November 20, 2021 12:03 AM

They could have cremated the body and buried it in Jersey.

by Anonymousreply 13November 20, 2021 12:05 AM

I met him once when I was a little kid, my grandfather knew him.

by Anonymousreply 14November 20, 2021 12:22 AM

[quote]New lead in the search for Jimmy Hoffa

Why the fuck would anyone be looking for him in 2021?

by Anonymousreply 15November 20, 2021 12:25 AM

He's sharing a beachfront condo with DB Cooper and Judge Crater.

by Anonymousreply 16November 20, 2021 12:27 AM

He's an example of a high IQ person born into a poor background. He could easily have turned into a successful criminal himself, but he chose the high road.

by Anonymousreply 17November 20, 2021 12:54 AM

I wonder how many millions the FBI and other law enforcement have spent looking for him. Wasn't it just a few years ago that they dug up a driveway and tore down a barn after another questionable tip or three? He was either illegally cremated, or cut up and fed to hogs.

by Anonymousreply 18November 20, 2021 1:17 AM

People are saying that Donald Trump killed him and he is now buried under Mar-a-Lago

by Anonymousreply 19November 20, 2021 1:20 AM

Hoffa was murdered in Michigan. This should be interesting, though.

by Anonymousreply 20November 20, 2021 1:43 AM

Iirc, from reading an article in Vanity Fair a few decades ago, an FBI source, on background, stated that they found a deathbed statement from someone they believe be credible to be what happened: Hoffa's body was immediately cremated and his ashes were thrown out of a window of a moving car.

Speculation is fun, but real life informs us that the these things are done very matter-of-factly by way of the easiest and most convenient way.

by Anonymousreply 21November 20, 2021 1:47 AM

I don't understand why anyone is still looking for his remains.

by Anonymousreply 22November 20, 2021 1:49 AM

Because mafia types talk. Mostly lies.

by Anonymousreply 23November 20, 2021 1:50 AM

I'm so saddened to know it wasn't Barzini all along.

by Anonymousreply 24November 20, 2021 1:52 AM

[quote]He's sharing a beachfront condo with DB Cooper and Judge Crater.

I'm with them, too!

by Anonymousreply 25November 20, 2021 1:55 AM

He's in a Mexican hideaway resort with Ken Lay.

by Anonymousreply 26November 20, 2021 1:59 AM

[quote]Maybe whoever ordered the hit was in Jersey and wanted to see the body. Also, you want to keep an eye on the burial site in case anybody’s gonna dig it up for some reason.

His head would have been enough for that, if someone wanted more than photos. And they could have (and probably did) just stuck his body in a barrel and dumped him out of a boat into Lake Erie.

by Anonymousreply 27November 20, 2021 2:06 AM

Another way to waste Yet More taxpayer money. Who gives a rat's ass where he is?

by Anonymousreply 28November 20, 2021 2:11 AM

His body could have been chopped to pieces, he could have been incinerated, he could have been dumped in a large vat of acid. There are probably so many ways to dispose of a body if you have the motive and the means.

by Anonymousreply 29November 20, 2021 2:17 AM

I thought Jack Nicholson as Hoffa was so great. I loved that film. Underrated.

by Anonymousreply 30November 20, 2021 2:21 AM

Me, too, r30.

by Anonymousreply 31November 20, 2021 2:29 AM

Recall the rumor mill that said he was buried in the end zone of a certain Stadium.

by Anonymousreply 32November 20, 2021 2:30 AM

R32 Giant Stadium at the Meadowlands in NJ.

by Anonymousreply 33November 20, 2021 2:32 AM

It's surprising how many people on here who proclaim to socialists/worker rights/union, but shit on the movie the Irishman... What do you think that movie was about?

by Anonymousreply 34November 20, 2021 3:22 AM

R34 is a moron.

by Anonymousreply 35November 20, 2021 3:27 AM

Searching for Jimmy Hoffa is an FBI hobby the way listening to murder podcasts is for frauen.

by Anonymousreply 36November 20, 2021 3:30 AM

The expectant culture that came about around Hoffa's remains lasted forever, it seemed, decades at least. Jokes on late night TV from Johnny Carson, constant nightly news segments about Hoffa, his disappearance, and possible leads.

The best part about this thread is, that despite being a '70s child, I had no idea he was killed in Detroit. Every news report I'd heard made him sound like an east coast mob casualty. So much talk about the Meadowlands. Aa the though the mob would risk a traffic stop with a corpse on a day long drive to NYC or Jersey.

Why spend my money on a wild goose chase, again?

by Anonymousreply 37November 20, 2021 6:24 AM

We don’t know that he was killed in Michigan. We only know he disappeared there. He might have been taken to Jersey alive.

by Anonymousreply 38November 20, 2021 6:48 AM

How so, R35?

by Anonymousreply 39November 20, 2021 7:51 AM

[quote]It's surprising how many people on here who proclaim to socialists/worker rights/union, but shit on the movie the Irishman

Union person here who shit on the movie because it was 4 fucking hours long - without an intermission.

by Anonymousreply 40November 20, 2021 1:12 PM

Al Pacino cast as Hoffa made zero sense.

by Anonymousreply 41November 20, 2021 1:14 PM

R40 they should've broken the movie up into two parts. It's what I would call an " extended feature/film."

by Anonymousreply 42November 20, 2021 1:33 PM

He was last seen in the parking lot of the Machus Red Fox Restaurant in Bloomfield Township, which is about 20-some miles northwest of Detroit. He was supposed to meet some mob bosses at the restaurant.

The restaurant has since closed. Not sure what is currently at the location.

by Anonymousreply 43November 20, 2021 1:34 PM

Who exactly was he? Was he a monster or involved in organized crime etc?

by Anonymousreply 44November 20, 2021 1:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 45November 20, 2021 1:35 PM

why the fuck do we need to find him? He's dead. gone. good riddance.

and they are searching a fucking landfill...yeah, like his remains are still gonna be there after decades.

the FBI are such stupid cunts.

by Anonymousreply 46November 20, 2021 1:36 PM

For R44. From Wiki:

[quote]James Riddle Hoffa (born February 14, 1913 – disappeared July 30, 1975, declared dead July 30, 1982) was an American labor union leader who served as the president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) from 1957 until 1971. ... Hoffa became involved with organized crime from the early years of his Teamsters work, a connection that continued until his disappearance in 1975. He was convicted of jury tampering, attempted bribery, conspiracy, and mail and wire fraud in 1964 in two separate trials. He was imprisoned in 1967 and sentenced to 13 years. In mid-1971, he resigned as president of the union as part of a commutation agreement with US President Richard Nixon and was released later that year, but Hoffa was barred from union activities until 1980. Hoping to regain support and to return to IBT leadership, he unsuccessfully tried to overturn the order. Hoffa disappeared on July 30, 1975. He is believed to have been murdered by the Mafia and was declared legally dead in 1982. Hoffa's legacy continues to stir debate.

But I will say. Closer for his children and grandchildren, would be a good thing for them.

by Anonymousreply 48November 20, 2021 1:47 PM

Thx R47.

I grew up hearing things about him in pop culture. Just was never clear about who exactly he was and what he did in life.

by Anonymousreply 50November 20, 2021 2:02 PM

R18 here. It would be an interesting psychological study to figure out why Americans are so obsessed with conspiracies such as JFK's death, Hoffa's death, Howard Hughes' death, and 9/11.

As someone above stated, the truth is normally very boring and straightforward compared to what we imagine and/or conjure up. You don't hear much about Germans questioning Hitler's death. Or Russians questioning the Romanoffs' death. Do we feel more of a need to investigate and question just because we are in a democratic society here in the US?

by Anonymousreply 51November 20, 2021 3:08 PM

It may be related to our individualistic society. Believing in a conspiracy can make you feel distinguished and special compared to the average “sheeple,” which is perhaps why lots of conspiracy theorists are people down on their luck who might otherwise feel like losers in American society.

by Anonymousreply 52November 20, 2021 3:13 PM

I actually suggested that in a conversation with a friend, r51. My question too is do we really have more of a percentage of people compared to the rest of the world who are into conspiracy theories? Or is it that they’re about the same and our enormous social media culture just makes it appear that there are more than there are.

by Anonymousreply 53November 20, 2021 3:18 PM

[quote] He's an example of a high IQ person born into a poor background. He could easily have turned into a successful criminal himself, but he chose the high road.

by Anonymousreply 58November 20, 2021 7:11 PM

I do think there is a lot mixing things together there r51. I admit I'm drawn to the JFK conspiracy stuff, and like so many I just don't believe Oswald shot him for no particular reason and that Jack Ruby shot Oswald to save Jackie the pain of some Oswald Trial.

The others? Well, I'm not sure there is really a lot of conspiracy theory around Hoffa. I think it's pretty clear and most people accept that the mob killed him, cause he was all tangled up in mob business and was a threat in some way. If the government tried to release some silly statement that it was all an unfortunate mugging gone awry or a kidnapping by some crazy serial killer, there would definitely be some "conspiracy" theory stuff going on because the official finding would be pretty ridiculous.

Don't know much about Hughes' death, and don't buy the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld knew about 9/11 or planned it stuff, so I'll give you that.

I am curious if Russians really believe any official explanation of the Romanovs' death. WAS there even an official explanation during the Soviet Union, or was it all, we don't talk about that. And in both Soviet Russia and Putin's Russia, I can't imagine any sane person believes any official government statement about most anything really, so if that is all it takes to be a conspiracy theorist, I would think it's a whole nation of conspiracy theorists.

by Anonymousreply 59November 20, 2021 11:42 PM

And I'll add, just because I am intrigued now, there is a rich tradition of conspiracies, and exaggerated fear of conspiracies in Europe, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries. Marxists, Communists, Freemasons, Fascists, Nazis, Monarchists, Bonarpartists, Serbian Black Hand, damn it was one long roll call of conspiracies all over the continent for almost a century, and of course on the other side, people sure that behind every reform proposal was a wild-eyed anarchist conspiring to overthrow well, somebody!

Not sure if modern western Europeans have completely ditched all that.

by Anonymousreply 60November 20, 2021 11:52 PM

I've always heard a conspiracy theory that Hitler did not die in the bunker but lived his last days in Bolivia. Not sure if that's an American theory or they actually thought that in Germany.

by Anonymousreply 61November 21, 2021 12:36 AM

I don’t believe for a minute Hitler committed suicide.

by Anonymousreply 62November 21, 2021 12:44 AM

As a 15-year old in the summer of 1972, I saw Jimmy Hoffa at the airport (his wife & my family & I were on the same flight to Miami) & made a point of glaring at him to register my deep dislike.

You could pull a tooth and put inside another corpse. No way would a megalomaniac like Adolf Hitler commit suicide. He lived until 1979 in Argentina.

by Anonymousreply 70November 21, 2021 2:30 AM

No way a megalomaniac would live his life in obscurity in Argentina.

by Anonymousreply 71November 21, 2021 2:34 AM

Yes he would.

by Anonymousreply 81November 21, 2021 3:02 AM

[quote]You could pull a tooth and put inside another corpse.

No, you can't. You can't pull a tooth from someone and stick it in the jaw of another without it being obvious as hell what you've done. And it wasn't one tooth. It's a jaw with all of the dental hardware that came with it.

[quote]No way would a megalomaniac like Adolf Hitler commit suicide

It is logical that he would commit suicide. Hitler saw himself as the central figure in a real life grand Wagnerian opera. He believed that his & Germany's fates were inextricably bound, he WAS Germany and vice versa. Both would either emerge from the war in glorious triumph or go down together in a grand blazing spectacle of ashes, ruin, and death. This was his Götterdämmerung. All or nothing, he wouldn't live without Germany and he believed that Germany should not exist without him. Like the possessive psycho ex-husband/boyfriend who doesn't want to live without his wife/girlfriend and doesn't want her to live without him.

He was never going to find the kind of power he’d had in Germany anywhere else. He was on top of the world for a time, where do you go from there? What was there for him to escape to? Hiding out in some South American backwater, fearing for his life? Going from being one of the most powerful people in the world to being a pathetic, powerless nobody? Being confronted every day with his own failures, knowing how close he'd come to having it all? In the end the bitterness of it would have been too much to bear. As it was, he died as the Fuhrer of the Third Reich.

by Anonymousreply 82November 21, 2021 3:45 AM

I'm a Canadian who lives right across the border from Detroit and every few years this happens: someone claims to know what actually happened to Jimmy Hoffa and where his remains are AND the police start digging and looking all over again. Well boys, here we go again........just like clockwork.

by Anonymousreply 83November 21, 2021 3:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 84November 21, 2021 6:59 AM

Well put, R82. I've been thinking about the Hitler conspiracy threads since I saw the dental record linked above. No way Hitler would've lived in exile quietly...anywhere.
