Rapper Young Dolph Assassinated

1:54 PM PT -- Young Dolph's attorney and friend Scott Hall tells us the rapper was in town for his annual Thanksgiving giveaway -- he'd been living in Atlanta most of the time. Hall says Dolph was scheduled to hand out a truckload of turkeys to folks in his old neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon. His plan was to head to the event right after the cookie store. Young Dolph has been shot and killed in his hometown ... TMZ has confirmed.

The rapper was gunned down Wednesday in Memphis, TN outside a local cookie store ... and there's already a massive police presence with people recording the aftermath. A video from the crime scene shows his car parked outside the shop while police investigate. FOX13 Memphis was first to report Dolph's death.

I hope Lizzo has an alibi.

by Anonymousreply 1November 17, 2021 9:45 PM

A cookie store?

by Anonymousreply 2November 17, 2021 9:53 PM

He was reportedly buying cookies for his Mom.

by Anonymousreply 3November 17, 2021 9:54 PM

How come I have never heard of all these rappers before they are gunned down ???

by Anonymousreply 4November 17, 2021 9:55 PM

OP’s use of the word “Assassinated” in this context reminds me of a Chris Rock riff on Biggie Smalls being assassinated.

by Anonymousreply 5November 17, 2021 9:59 PM

There are a lot of smellers in that area.

by Anonymousreply 6November 17, 2021 10:01 PM

Die by the sword you wield. Rap music glorifies gun violence.

by Anonymousreply 7November 17, 2021 10:07 PM

I thought the exact same thing, R5.

"Martin Luther King was assassinated, Malcolm X was assassinated, John F. Kennedy was assassinated...."

by Anonymousreply 8November 17, 2021 10:08 PM

The term is often used when famous people are victims of targeted murder, such as Selena and John Lennon.

by Anonymousreply 9November 17, 2021 10:20 PM

If the bling had been real, wouldn't it have blocked the bullets?

by Anonymousreply 10November 17, 2021 10:24 PM

No idea who he is, but "assassinated", OP? It's not like he was a head of state. Let's calm down.

by Anonymousreply 11November 17, 2021 10:33 PM

Aww, that’s a shame.

He was terrific in that Rocky movie.

by Anonymousreply 12November 17, 2021 10:41 PM

I was molested, assassinated, resurrected, and molested again!

by Anonymousreply 13November 17, 2021 10:43 PM

I still can’t get past the cookie store business.

Can we smell it from here?

by Anonymousreply 14November 17, 2021 10:44 PM

Too similar to Nipsy.

by Anonymousreply 15November 17, 2021 10:45 PM

Chris Rock has a bit about the use of "assassination" related to the death of Tupac.

by Anonymousreply 16November 17, 2021 10:46 PM

How is this an assassination? OP?

by Anonymousreply 17November 17, 2021 10:49 PM

He was probably not vaxxed, so his days were numbered.

by Anonymousreply 18November 17, 2021 10:50 PM

OP = Drama filled LSA CUNT.

by Anonymousreply 19November 17, 2021 10:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 23November 17, 2021 11:01 PM

Can someone link to the Chris Rock piece? It sounds funny.

by Anonymousreply 24November 17, 2021 11:01 PM

That’s sad. :(

by Anonymousreply 25November 17, 2021 11:04 PM

What’s his story? He was shot a few times before.

by Anonymousreply 26November 17, 2021 11:09 PM

I live in Memphis. Makeda's cookies are really good. The owner used to work in the city schools and made cookies and decided to open up their own cookie business. They are local and you can buy them in grocery stores around town. He was probably supporting their business by stopping by. He was on his way to give out free turkeys for Thanksgiving in his old community. The rumor is that more than 50 shots were fired at him. Someone had a grudge against him obviously. It is sad, he was trying to do a good deed.

by Anonymousreply 27November 17, 2021 11:10 PM

I don't know him, but trying to do a good deed, and being killed, makes it sadder.

by Anonymousreply 28November 17, 2021 11:13 PM

Very sad. The bloodshed in this country is horrendous

by Anonymousreply 29November 17, 2021 11:24 PM

A NOVEL??!! My sister wrote a NOVEL!!??

by Anonymousreply 30November 17, 2021 11:37 PM

He was getting too old for his moniker anyway, so this is working out very well for him.

by Anonymousreply 31November 17, 2021 11:42 PM

Enough with the damn guns. It’s just getting worse and worse. It turned out the gun movement was funded by foreign countries through the NRA.

Isn’t it the governments job to explain this crap? This should be common knowledge. Foreign countries are co-opting our institutions and influencing Americans to kill each other.

Gang activity is being intentionally inflamed to record levels on social media. Who do you think is behind inflaming every beef to this level? And then providing the weapons. Every hit is now 50 bullets when it used to be 5.

Let’s connect the dots people. Don’t make it so easy.

This has got to stop.

by Anonymousreply 32November 17, 2021 11:44 PM

Play Ghetto Music, Win Stupid Prizes.

by Anonymousreply 33November 17, 2021 11:47 PM

R32, our [GQP.nra] Congress has made it illegal for government institutions to even research gun violence. So what do we do?

by Anonymousreply 34November 17, 2021 11:49 PM

R24, I can't find any video, but here's a link to the joke.

by Anonymousreply 35November 17, 2021 11:54 PM

So I guess this means he'll never be Old Dolph.

by Anonymousreply 36November 18, 2021 12:01 AM

[quote] Congress has made it illegal for government institutions to even research gun violence. So what do we do?

We recruit the Crips, the Bloods, etc. for our militia in the war against the fascists. If the Second Amendment applies to the proud boys, well then it applies to our side as well.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Dolph

by Anonymousreply 37November 18, 2021 12:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 39November 18, 2021 12:16 AM

Isn't it funny how you never see people like pop divas killing each other? Can you imagine Liza with a gun? Britney gunning down Celine Dion? I mean Cher is going to do it just by out living all of them.

by Anonymousreply 40November 18, 2021 12:19 AM

Those cookies look amazing but $30 for a Baker’s dozen? Come on man!

by Anonymousreply 41November 18, 2021 12:21 AM

Assassinations are NOT 50 shots. This was a sloppy ass street murder.

by Anonymousreply 42November 18, 2021 12:21 AM

Never heard of him.

by Anonymousreply 43November 18, 2021 12:25 AM

Does he have a hit song everyone would know?

by Anonymousreply 44November 18, 2021 12:31 AM

R44 I think it's his big hit. "100 Shots."

Why are so many Rap start tied to murder and crime? I know, call me racist but seriously, it's a fact not just an opinion. Far more artists who have died of violence were Rappers than any other form of music.

Memphis poster here again. I've been watching the news a little bit. The Makeda's Cookie owners and employees are devastated. The owner was there and was telling Dolph to hang on. Dolph lived in Atlanta and would visit Memphis often because his relatives still lived here.

The area he was in by the cookie store is the hood. It's a very poor area and you don't go there unless you know someone or absolutely have to.

I know you white conservatives don’t want to acknowledge the role this country has played in the disenfranchisement of black people that has always existed, and exists to this day. When will things change for real? It’s assholes like you holding any progress back.

R86 He was a drug dealer, he was a gangster, he was proud of it, he promoted the lifestyle, and made millions of dollars doing it.

He died like a gangster, shot outside of a small ethnic business in his old neighborhood that he was probably laundering money through. That's how they go down.

I'm tired of getting told I need to keep my eyes closed like a toddler, pretend not to know what's going on with shit like this. If he was picking up spaghetti for his mamma nobody would feel sorry for him. Apparently nobody does anyway.

by Anonymousreply 88November 18, 2021 4:41 PM

R88

Why do you deny the underlying issues as to why this happens especially in black communities? This is the result of poverty and lack of opportunities that have existed forever in black communities. These are problems the country has created and chosen not to address. It has everything to do with this country’s racist history and its failure to combat systemic racism, and actually rally it on and promote it.

You really think it’s a coincidence this is happening in communities of descendants of slaves, that also faced Jim Crow, and the generations of oppression?

History shaped the country we are today. We didn’t act when we should have and black people will continue to suffer due to it.

by Anonymousreply 89November 18, 2021 4:56 PM

R89 White men live the exact way he did and die the same way he died. They get held responsible for themselves.

Black people have the same problems white people have, usually the same way.

Differences get blown way out of proportion because there's so much money in splitting hairs and pitting people against each other.

Apparently a lot of grant money and corporate donations in pretending black men aren't grown adults who make their own choices.

by Anonymousreply 90November 18, 2021 6:17 PM

r86 he was killed by other POC but you knew that. Nice try, hon.

by Anonymousreply 91November 18, 2021 6:18 PM

R91

Poverty and lack of opportunities in black communities are fueling the violence. It’s all linked. Black people are the poorest in the country (besides Native Americans) because of racism and our tragic history. We didn’t give black people reparations after slavery and Jim Crow and the systemic racism and oppression is clear to this day. The country has done many, many things throughout the years to keep black people down.

For fucks sake R86 get off your woke platform and be real. BLM has nothing to do with Black on Black crime. They want to make names for themselves by signaling out WHITES who go after blacks and it’s aimed at cops. As for this rapper, how does BLM even figure into this conversation? How do white people or republicans or racism? He was shot by blacks in a bad neighborhood in an ambush which was calculated and retaliation for the past shooting that didn’t take his life. It’s gang related. He got out of the gang life (allegedly) so they wanted to make him pay. He rapped about it yet he was trying to do better and uplift the ghetto he came from. It’s a gang thing and has nothing to do with whites. And other blacks. Or anyone who wasn’t in a gang. Your racist comments divide people because you want to plant the hate seed. Go fuck yourself with your PC Penis. Dumb race baiting cunt.

Heres a shocker for you R89 et al...if a white person has a criminal record by the time they are 18 ,they dont get any breaks in life either. They dont get jobs,or a chance to advance ,or an opportunity to better their lives EITHER. If they deal drugs,or commit crimes ,their fucking lives suck just as fucking bad as a black mans . In fact, there are far mor programs to help a black man fresh out of prison than there ever have been for white men. So get the fuck outta here with that bullshit . Black mens lives suck overall because of their choices. It isnt societys fault,or the white mans,or poverty or any of the other myriad of excuses we have to pretend are legitimate. Personal responsibility is a bitch, isnt it?

I'm sure everyone is dying for an explanation of "cookie store."

Most states allow cottage baking businesses to be run out of private homes, under certain parameters. Very importantly, they don't have to pass health inspections- which saves a fortune.

These ladies likely baking cookies at home and selling them, again totally legal. They became so successful they got themselves a storefront to sell out of of- their "cookie store."

If they were baking at the store they'd need to outfit a professional kitchen, industrial equipment, up to code, with proper licenses. Expensive.

They're baking the cookies off-site, either still at home or in a rented ghost kitchen, and selling them at the store.

Young Dolph wasn't concerned about returning to Memphis -- he made the trip unaware of any ongoing beef, and without any recent threat to his life ... TMZ has learned.

by Anonymousreply 129November 20, 2021 4:11 PM

I think the lack of sympathy for this man is misplaced. It's understandable to hold the black community at large responsible for all the gang violence and even general violence within it's own community but you can't specifically lay the blame at this guy's feet. Maybe he was a kid when he got involved in gang stuff and was trying to get out...are you really going to hold it against him given that?

The issue is the lack of agency some blacks refuse to take for a culture that glorifies violence. Not black culture but specifically black gang/hip hop culture. Jazz is a uniquely black invention and it doesn't glorify thugs, many dance forms are uniquely black and don't glorify thugs, so yes, it's easy to point to the cause.

Dolph WHO? And what kind of presents did he wrap?

[quote] Assassination: Murder of a public figure by surprise attack

He was a public figure and the attack was obviously by surprise, so it was most certainly an assassination.

This certainly meets the definition of assassination: the premeditated act of killing someone suddenly or secretively, especially a prominent person:

by Anonymousreply 135November 21, 2021 9:53 AM

Assassination my ass! The term has ALWAYS been, and still should be, used for political leaders who were murdered. That's it!

Example for the dim witted:

Dr. King was assassinated on April 4 1968. FULL STOP. PERIODT.

Rapper Young Dolph was shot and killed...

OR

Rapper Young Dolph murdered......

OR

In a seemingly weekly occurrence, which is almost comical at this point, another rapper was gunned down.

From Wikipedia:

[quote]Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. was born on July 27, 1985, in Chicago.[4][5][6] His family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, when he was two years old.[6] He had two sisters and two brothers, and was second cousins with rapper Juice Wrld.[7][8] Mostly raised by his grandmother, Dolph's parents experienced addictions to crack cocaine, and he would only see them every few weeks as a child.

Why would an African-American family move from Chicago to the South? I know Chicago probably has "big city" problems but it seems a bit odd.

by Anonymousreply 142November 21, 2021 2:35 PM

R137, where have you been these last decades? There has been mass migration of African Americans from the North to the South. Pay attention to basic news and culture.

by Anonymousreply 143November 21, 2021 2:37 PM

Young Dolph, I’m Old Queen.

In 2014, African American millennials moved in the highest numbers to Texas, Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina. African American populations have continued to drop throughout much of the Northeast, especially from the state of New York and northern New Jersey, as they rise in the South

by Anonymousreply 147November 21, 2021 2:42 PM

The epicenter for the southward migration is Georgia, whose black population nearly doubled from 1.8 million to 3.5 million from 1990 to 2019.

Frey’s analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data found that, from 2015 to 2019, the Atlanta, Dallas and Houston metropolitan areas gained the most Black migrants, while the New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles metropolitan areas saw the most outward Black migration. Of the 53 largest metropolitan areas studied, the Philadelphia area lost the fifth most Black people, just over 4,500, Frey found.

The loss of Black residents to the South could be a cause for concern for big cities, said Sabrina Pendergrass, a University of Virginia assistant professor of African American and African Studies.

“We have these declines in cities like New York and Detroit and it raises questions about what the impact will be on those cities, and it also points to the challenges that those cities are experiencing in terms of people’s ability to find well-paying jobs, housing and the extent to which people feel that they can raise their families in a sustainable environment,” she said.

That cookie STORE is on one of the major routes to the airport. I have stopped there a couple of times, but usually go to her other store in the “nicer” area downtown. I’m not much of a sweet eater, but they are good for gifts. She is NOT laundering money or selling drugs out of her store. She’s a really sweet lady and I’m sure she is beyond devastated. Several of the local restaurants have banded together and are giving some of their profits to help her and the employees rebuild and make it through the shutdown. But yeah, go ahead with your racist bullshit.

MLK was assassinated, Malcolm X was assassinated, Young Dolph got shot.

And yet people said John Lennon was "assasinated."

I guess Young Dolph needed to do a press conference about peace naked in bed with Yoko Ono to be properly "assasinated."

Feeding the poor just wasn't enough.

At least Jesus got crucified.
