I think it’s most likely they’ll bring the kids over to see the Queen and Charles (not Will) at a lower-key time, maybe between US Thanksgiving and Christmas, be on best behavior, and then the news will come out once they’ve landed back in the US.

Putting everything else aside, they will want for their kids to at least meet their great-gran, and she’ll want to meet them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some agreement in place to avoid William and Harry being present at the same time. Clearly bad blood there.

When the Queen first fell ill weeks ago, H&M's PR said they both wanted to go see her. That must have been declined by the palace because then the PR was that Harry would go see the Queen alone.

H&M probably thought it better to have at least one of them go so that they can maintain the illusion that they're still pseudo royals for their Netflix doc. That must have been declined, too, as now the excuse is they're "too busy".

It’s an interesting contrast with Wallis and Edward* whose post-abdication strategy was to try and hang onto the remoteness/exclusivity of royalty, putting on airs and acting as if people should be honored to visit them or if they deigned to attend a dinner. Meghan and Harry are striving hard to be celebrities, but are doing more of a “royalty - they’re just like us!” thing, which I find interesting. I can’t imagine W & E trying to talk to “the commoners” via a podcast. It worked to some extent for W & E except that they put themselves on a pedestal too high for regular socialites but too low for Edward’s family (actual royalty) and became very isolated.

* I don’t mean to suggest any approval of these two as people, I read a bio of her that made clear they were contemptible, self-involved, scheming bigots. I don’t think Harry and Meghan hold a candle to them in terms of desertion of duty or bad personal qualities.
