Talk about taking your hurt and turning it into art.
What did Warren Beatty do to Carly Simon that made her so mad?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 28, 2021 6:36 PM |
The song pretty much explains it (he was a vain jerk!) and his reputation fills in the blanks.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 17, 2021 7:17 AM |
Oh, honey, she got just a taste of that monster cock and then he ghosted her. Mary!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 17, 2021 7:20 AM |
Two words: “Apricot scarf”.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 17, 2021 7:23 AM |
Warren Beatty was the Pete Davidson of the 60s, 70s.and 80s.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 17, 2021 7:24 AM |
He turned her dreams into clouds in his coffee.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 17, 2021 7:34 AM |
I’d bet he’d think this thread is about him.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 17, 2021 7:55 AM |
I've always liked James Taylor but sounds like he was and still is an asshole to Carly.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 17, 2021 8:02 AM |
He flew his Lear Jet to Nova Scotia to see a total eclipse of the sun...
... and he left her home to write a stupid song that he'll probably think is about him, but the joke's on him because she had some dreams that Mick Jagger was boinking her and that's when he was hot
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 17, 2021 8:05 AM |
In the afterglow of lovemaking, Warren, ever the rascal, dutch ovened Carly after her asking if loving him was the right thing to do.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 17, 2021 8:39 AM |
I've always heard this song was about James Taylor, but it makes MUCH more sense that it was Beatty.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 17, 2021 9:09 AM |
It's also about David Geffen.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 17, 2021 9:29 AM |
I can see her dirty pillows

The podcast about Bennington College in the 80s claims the apricot scarf line is about some NY society guy who was at Bennington with Bret Easton Ellis.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 17, 2021 10:31 AM |
A recent biography made her out to be a slut back in the 70s, always chasing cock before she settled down with abusive junkie James Taylor. After that marriage failed in the early 80s she went back to chasing cock.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 17, 2021 10:53 AM |
Carly has an extra large mouth and clearly no gag reflex. She has always had PILES OF her own inexhaustible money so I'm sure she hoovered her way through some of the greatest cocks of a few decades. Its rather amazing to me that she ever felt the victim of a man even when she was young and less sexually experienced. Oh well good for her for being human. We've all been dicked over by an egotistical but extremely compelling and sexy man, right?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 17, 2021 11:20 AM |
Mrs. Ed should just be glad she got a hit out of it.

Miriam Margolyes talks about her Beatty experience.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 17, 2021 12:36 PM |
Gave her a Dirty Sanchez. Took two tries due to her big lips.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 17, 2021 12:39 PM |
Another question. ... Why does James Taylor hate Carly so much?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 17, 2021 12:56 PM |
Taylor was pissed that Carly got the Martha’s Vineyard home in the divorce.
I heard when he cuts someone out of his life it’s permanent and goes to the extreme to sever all ties with them.
I think he asked Carly to stop talking about their marriage and his addictions to the press. When she didn’t he cut off all contact, but did speak to her when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She’s supposed to be very kind but extremely needy and one of those people that within 10 minutes of meeting them will tell you their life story whether you asked her to or not.
Carlys sisters didn’t speak to her for a time after she spoke to vanity fair about her family and some unflattering things about their family, specifically their mother came out.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 17, 2021 1:13 PM |
I love Carly Simon threads.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 17, 2021 1:14 PM |
Slightly off-topic....I was reading yesterday that James Taylor is "suspected" to be on the autism spectrum. Granted, these internet diagnoses are to be taken with a grain of salt. But if it were true, I could understand how he couldn't take being with Carly, who is so expressive.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 17, 2021 1:18 PM |
It’s only a little about warren. More about kris kristofferson & cat stevens. Also: about the powerful men from her Dad’s era & their mistresses. She talks about it in her book & a thousand interviews since it was revealed. Fun fact from her book: : kris was a terrible boyfriend & cat was bi. Also: james taylor was a junkie longer than his handlers say- def on it during the james & carly years. (Joni mitchell’s cold blue steel & sweet fire is a james on drugs song.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 17, 2021 1:33 PM |
James Taylor is also "suspected“ of having a massive cock.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 17, 2021 2:02 PM |
Damn Kris K. was hot as hell back then. She got some primo dick for awhile.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 17, 2021 2:04 PM |
Carly was alway afraid of men who were more attractive than her.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 17, 2021 2:04 PM |
I don't get the Jackie Onassis friendship thing.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 17, 2021 2:34 PM |
Carly came from book publishing aristocracy, Jackie probably liked that.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 17, 2021 2:38 PM |
Carly asked Jackie what she thought of Oliver Stone’s “JFK”. Jackie was horrified by her question.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 17, 2021 2:41 PM |
^ I think Jackie may have found Carly's cringe worthy honesty refreshing after a lifetime of suck-ups to her and her family
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 17, 2021 4:25 PM |
Did Carly ask Jackie if Jack ever shared any of Lem's blowjob techniques?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 17, 2021 4:44 PM |
To R15......You win "Comment of the Day". I am in a work meeting with the "Big Guy"(my Boss), I showed him what I was laughing at on my personal laptop. He goes "OMG that's soooo mean but I can go 1 better", I have a Carly Simon story about my Father& her on Martha Vineyard 1 summer. What a fucking whore but all that Simon $$$!!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 17, 2021 4:45 PM |
Was Carly on assistance as well?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 17, 2021 4:49 PM |
Carly suffered from anxiety and crushingly low self esteem in her younger days. This meant spending her share of the small Simon inheritance (her dad was forced out of S&S and really didn't end up with much money from it) on psychoanalysis, which didn't help much. So - not wealthy, just upper class.
Then, due to her low self esteem, she let herself be literally passed around by her rich and famous boyfriends. This was prior to her making it big in the music biz as a solo performer, so they were famous, she wasn't. Ironic that the song that really put her on the charts was the one calling them out for their shitty behavior.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 17, 2021 4:58 PM |
R34 Really? I had no idea. I thought she was wealthy Park Avenue for life. I've misjudged her above.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 17, 2021 7:07 PM |
Wait, Cat Stevens was bisexual? Why have I never heard this before?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 17, 2021 7:15 PM |
I don’t think Carly has *ever* wanted for money at any point in her life. “not wealthy — just upper class” … what on earth does that mean? She has never not been wealthy.
[quote] Mrs. Ed should just be glad she got a hit out of it.
She’s never indicated otherwise. Good lord. The humor in the lyrics couldn’t be more apparent. She isn’t some maudlin type, or some rabid rabbit-boiling psycho like Alanis Morrissette in “You Oughta Know”.
I didn’t realize she had revealed that the guy in “Vain” is a pastiche of different men. I’ll have to buy her book. She’s always been a treat. I’d love to know her.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 17, 2021 7:52 PM |
Poor Carly, self-absorbed, shallow, narcissistic, not as talented or attractive she thought have should have been.
She tortured for James Taylor for years and years, way past the divorce. She's a psycho and a child. Now she's been sober for decades and Carly still is trying to push her pushes.

[quote]The podcast about Bennington College in the 80s claims the apricot scarf line is about some NY society guy who was at Bennington with Bret Easton Ellis.
This isn't likely since the song was written in the early 70s and B.E. Ellis wasn't at Bennington until the 80s.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 17, 2021 8:46 PM |
I like Carly. She's no Joni Mitchell or Carole King and I think she was aware of that.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 17, 2021 8:51 PM |
R29, Carly writes about doing some advance work for one of her matinee movie dates when JFK was in theaters. She wanted to make sure there were no movie posters that Jackie would see. Successfully avoiding that possibility, she was mortified when she thoughtlessly asking Jackie about the movie.
Reminds me of a story Frank Langella wrote about his friend Jackie. I don’t recall where they were, when, alone together, this happened, but Jackie was resting, & to get her attention, he jokingly feigned pointing a gun to her head. Jackie was utterly aghast & he, too, was mortified by what he had done.

R36 hi. I posted about cat. Carly wrote that she’s not fully straight herself while writing about his bisexuality. Anticipation is about him. I don’t recall but i think he wasn’t a great bf. The book on tape was on youtube -maybe it still is.

She had money problems a while ago.
I guess they are still going on because I saw a video of her performing on a cruise ship. I think it was the QEII but still. A cruise ship, and she doesn't even like to perform live.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 19, 2021 1:22 AM |
That QEII think was from almost 20 years ago.
Carly lost millions to a well-known NY money manager who predated Bernie Madoff, his name was Ken Starr (not the Clinton prosecutor), along with many other.
While it was a big setback for her, I believe she has recovered financially. Her property on the Vineyard is worth millions by itself.
I suspect her main financial problems these days are from her daughter Sally and her grifting son-in-law, who bleed her financially. And her son Ben, who seems to struggle with his recovery.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 20, 2021 3:12 PM |
Am I the only one who thinks Jackie should have relaxed her crack just a bit, at least about Carly’s faux pas if not the gun pointing thing (which- good God!). Everyone felt terrible about what happened to her.

You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte. Is such a great line and rhymes with apricot. But he did the gavotte? Was that a thing at society parties?

I mean, she's probably not the easiest person to live with, but it's sad that she's probably going to die alone. She should've married some non-famous person who was super supportive and loyal. Instead she chases these men that just want submissive doormats.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 26, 2021 4:40 AM |
Her last husband was a regular person. That didn't work out either though they were married for 20 years.

R43, I just checked and that was filmed in 2005.

She was angry that he asked her to stop singing “Itsy Bitsy Spider” during foreplay.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 28, 2021 11:57 AM |
He told her the truth: she's always off-key.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 28, 2021 12:27 PM |
I adore Carly Simon and I write this as someone who believes every negative word about her.
Her greatest hits CD is a staple on my car player. There is something about the combination of driving somewhere on a gloomy, cloudy day with "That's the Way I've always Heard it Should Be" playing.
I too, read somewhere that the subject of YSV is an amalgam of more than one man.
Since it was pointed out to me that the familiar voice I was hearing, but didn't realize I was hearing it, was Mick Jagger singing background on YSV, now, he's the only thing I hear on that song.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 28, 2021 12:45 PM |
Carly Simon is not conventionally beautiful but I've always thought she was far more attractive than many beautiful women.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 28, 2021 2:36 PM |
Coming Around Again is a great song (from an awful movie Heartburn.)
Was the eligible for an Oscar nomination? Was it written for the film or an old song used?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 28, 2021 6:32 PM |
It’s interesting how Warren Beatty was such a huge ladies man but I don’t really hear women gush over him in his prime, not like they do with Robert Redford.
