MSNBC - Part 33

Who will succeed Brian Williams?

I vote for Phil Rucker and his tastefully decorated town house.

Phil's nice and smart, though his voice is a little lightweight. But then again, NYC Local Channel 2 has Maurice DuBois, whose voice sounds kind of like the equivalent of cotton candy.

by Anonymousreply 3November 16, 2021 3:30 PM

I want to see a Phil vs Claire pumpkin showdown!!

by Anonymousreply 4November 16, 2021 4:35 PM

I want to see a show "Claire McCaskill in the Catskills"

by Anonymousreply 5November 16, 2021 4:39 PM

MSNBC needs to air a wig-snatching segment.

by Anonymousreply 6November 16, 2021 4:44 PM

Claire should get Brian's spot at the 11th Hour.

Or maybe Shep Smith.

by Anonymousreply 11November 17, 2021 12:50 AM

Jill Wine-Banks could do a show, "You're not going to pin that on me"

Move Shepard Smith from CNBC to that spot. He has an established following and seasoned late nighters that are news-oriented vs opinion shows, will like him.

by Anonymousreply 21November 17, 2021 8:29 PM

2nd for Shep.

by Anonymousreply 22November 17, 2021 8:32 PM

Haven't we had sufficient fox news sloppy seconds?

by Anonymousreply 23November 17, 2021 8:35 PM

Nicolle Wallace did an excellent job grilling Chris Christie, I wouldn't be surprised if his fat ass looked like he had sat on the grill at Burger King, but as far as I saw none of the other MSNBC hosts showed even a clip of the grilling, let alone acknowledge it.

by Anonymousreply 24November 17, 2021 8:41 PM

From what I understand Shepard Smith is struggling on CNBC, moving him to another more prominent network is not the answer. Just because some of you might like him doesn't mean that he can bring in the needed viewership.

by Anonymousreply 26November 17, 2021 8:57 PM

Give Claire her own damned show!!!!

by Anonymousreply 27November 17, 2021 8:57 PM

I would enjoy a Claire MacCaskill show, but she is 68 years old and worth around $60 million. You are assuming she wants a show and I don't think she does, she has grand kids and I think she would rather be a grandmother a baker and an occasional contributor than to do the grind of a daily show.

by Anonymousreply 28November 17, 2021 9:18 PM

Sorry, R13--I love Katy and am glad she's back.

Have you ANY idea how many people have no relationship with certain family members? Including a huge # of DLers? You don't know what their dynamic is/was, and it isn't fair to judge her decision based on the teensy amount of knowledge we have about the situation.

by Anonymousreply 29November 17, 2021 9:40 PM

Shep and actual news is an odd fit at CNBC, squeezed between ranting clown Jim Cramer and the dickheads in the SHARK TANK.

by Anonymousreply 30November 17, 2021 10:01 PM

R28, Claire sat in for Nicole a few times and she seemed uncomfortable. Or maybe she just didn't like doing it. She did have to follow a "script" and lead the discussion rather than chiming in every once in a while and getting in a good one liner. Plus, I think she likes being at home and cozy in her kitchen. So, I doubt she'd even want her own show.

by Anonymousreply 31November 17, 2021 10:18 PM

Why is she wearing handcuffs dangling from her ears?

by Anonymousreply 32November 17, 2021 11:02 PM
I think she would rather be a grandmother a baker
I think she likes being at home and cozy in her kitchen.

That's why she should host a show from her kitchen -- part baking, part political commentary. She could invite politicians into her kitchen to show off their favorite recipes and then chat with her about the latest political news over pie or cake.

by Anonymousreply 33November 17, 2021 11:13 PM
Claire sat in for Nicole a few times and she seemed uncomfortable.
Plus, I think she likes being at home and cozy in her kitchen.

I love Jonathan Lemire, but he's really awful at that job.

Claire in the Kitchen would have been the perfect format for her with "Way Too Early."

The coffee. The cake.

It's just so homey. It would have been such a fun show to watch.

Rashida Jones really doesn't get it. That's why the network is sinking.

by Anonymousreply 34November 17, 2021 11:22 PM

Rachel is back in 30 Rock tonight.

by Anonymousreply 35November 17, 2021 11:32 PM
She could invite politicians into her kitchen to show off their favorite recipes and then chat with her about the latest political news over pie or cake.

You do realize that kitchen is in St Louis don't you? Just how many politicians are going to travel to St Louis to chat over pie or cake. Honestly you people are delusional if you think Claire is just dying to host a daily show. Now a weekend show, maybe you could talk her into that if she could do it from St Louis but Claire neither needs the money or the hassle of hosting a show.

by Anonymousreply 36November 17, 2021 11:59 PM

Claire is broke and her husband needs to retire, she'd be up for it I bet.

by Anonymousreply 37November 18, 2021 12:17 AM

Claire and her kitchen would have been perfect for Way Too Early. How many people do you think are watching that exactly??

Rachel is leaving her show at the end of the year...... who gets that spot?

by Anonymousreply 63November 19, 2021 3:17 AM

This morning on Morning Joe, everyone was at the table with Joe and Mika sitting shoulder to shoulder, Joe who constantly interrupts everyone was asking John Heilman a question, Joe was in his usual method of making a very long statement in the form of a question, Mika started to chime in, when Joe says "Are you Heilman?' whoa, man was Mika pissed, she shuffled her papers, fidgeted and finally just sat there with her arms crossed. She held her tongue but I bet Joe will hear it when they get home.

by Anonymousreply 64November 19, 2021 11:49 AM

That’s why they shouldn’t be sitting together.

by Anonymousreply 65November 19, 2021 12:08 PM

I hate saying something like this, but I don't think that their marriage will last very long.

by Anonymousreply 66November 19, 2021 1:34 PM

Joe used to scream at Mika all the time.

I'll bet he still does. Just off air now.

Wow! Nicolle and John Heilleman are discussing the fat fatty interview.

by Anonymousreply 71November 19, 2021 9:10 PM

John Heilemann is the first person I have seen on MSNBC to even acknowledge the Nicolle Wallace/Chris Christie interview. Which is a shame because it was really great the way she held his feet to the fire.

by Anonymousreply 72November 19, 2021 9:14 PM

I agree R72. I guess they are jealous that she, a former Republican, was tearing him apart better than anyone else on that channel.

by Anonymousreply 73November 19, 2021 9:19 PM

John Heilemann so clearly has a big crush on Nicolle and I don't blame him.

And today it seemed that Tim MIler had a big crush on John Heilemann (i can't blame him either!). Tim looks great with his new haircut, very adorable.

by Anonymousreply 82November 20, 2021 5:48 AM

No, because Letitia James has turned out to be totally useless. More interested in her campaign for Governor than in doing the actual job she is getting paid for.

by Anonymousreply 99November 21, 2021 6:47 PM

True that, R99, but former Impeachment Counsel Daniel Goldman is running for NYS Attorney General, and his very presence will serve as reminder of how the repugs screwed their country.

I am not saying she deserves the top spot that Rachel holds but since they will probably move someone currently at MSNBC into that spot they will need to back fill, they should consider Jen.

by Anonymousreply 138November 24, 2021 9:40 PM

Really R137? She seems to be a very serious person who doesn't ever let loose, but I never thought that she may be in some kind of pain. Are you thinking mental or physical?

by Anonymousreply 139November 24, 2021 10:36 PM

Jen Psaki would be a BRILLIANT anchor for MSNBC! I'd never miss her show.

Yes, Hillary's styling was not great (bad hair and makeup and was that a windbreaker she had on?) but she was so brilliant with Rachel, who cares?

by Anonymousreply 140November 24, 2021 10:57 PM

With this just-ended segment on Thanksgiving being a day of mourning for the Indigenous community, are Joy & her producers secretly working for the GQP?!

by Anonymousreply 141November 24, 2021 11:54 PM

R139 Behind the eyes kind of pain. Making her a soulful lady.

by Anonymousreply 142November 25, 2021 12:02 AM

Nice idea about Jen Psaki, but she was a CNN contributor before being given that job. CNN might have first dibs on her.

by Anonymousreply 143November 25, 2021 8:56 AM

MSNBC had a reporter Claudio Lavanga who I had never seen before today, reporting from Rome with a sexy thick Italian accent but apparently he has been around since at least 2015.

I'd watch Jen Psaki on CNN. I don't care which channel she's on if she's got her own show.

by Anonymousreply 145November 25, 2021 5:20 PM

I want Jen to have her own channel where she peggs that idiot Douchy.

by Anonymousreply 146November 25, 2021 5:53 PM

Is MSNBC closed on Thanksgiving?

It looked like the network was playing "paid programming" all day.

by Anonymousreply 147November 27, 2021 1:24 AM

MSNBC wants to be a top news network but gives all their major anchors two or three days off for Thanksgiving. News doesn't stop on holidays.

by Anonymousreply 148November 27, 2021 2:05 AM

The Jen Psaki adulation is hilarious. The woman is an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 149November 27, 2021 2:08 AM

And she's quite off-putting, R149.

I find her cold and abrasive.

I wouldn't watch a show with Jen Psaki.

by Anonymousreply 150November 27, 2021 2:25 AM

She is skilled with her information, skilled at dealing with "gotcha" reporters, skilled at making idiots out them in public.

She is GENIUS!

She is hated by the right because she does what all of Trump's Pressers wanted to do, WITHOUT LYING.

by Anonymousreply 151November 27, 2021 2:25 AM
Is MSNBC closed on Thanksgiving? Lol. It looked like the network was playing "paid programming" all day.

They aired a "Deadline White House" with Nicolle Wallace that was pre-recorded and featured excerpts from previously aired interviews from the past few months (basically a "Best of" retrospective), but the graphic at the bottom of the screen still labeled it all as "BREAKING NEWS."

by Anonymousreply 152November 27, 2021 3:05 AM

Morning Joe did the same thing with past interviews this morning but at least they were upfront about them being previously recorded.

by Anonymousreply 153November 27, 2021 3:07 AM

Same for Ari. Can't always tell but Ms. Hallie Marie Jackson appeared to be live.

by Anonymousreply 154November 27, 2021 7:59 AM
The Jen Psaki adulation is hilarious. The woman is an idiot.

Fox's straight-shooting Chris Wallace, who's been around a long time, including his years as WH correspondent for NBC during the Reagan years, has called her one of the best WH press secretaries ever.

by Anonymousreply 155November 27, 2021 3:28 PM

MSNBC should recruit Chris Wallace. He’s a legit journalist.

by Anonymousreply 156November 27, 2021 3:32 PM

Best that he stay at Fox, R156. As much as it pains them, Fox viewers need to hear the truth sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 157November 27, 2021 3:34 PM
They aired a "Deadline White House" with Nicolle Wallace

Will someone explain to me Nicolle Wallace's show?

EVERY time I tune in to it she's talking about three things: Trump, "The Big Lie", and January 6th.

It's the same stuff repeated over and over, day in and day out. It's like she's trapped in a time loop. How can anyone sit through it. Who is the audience for that? She's like an autistic kid who's focused on one thing and can't shut up about it.

OK, January 6th is important and any new info or progress needs to be reported, but it was nearly a year ago and other things are on people's minds right now. It's as if she's got nothing else.

And we all know how horrible Trump is.

Nicolle dear, we got it already.

by Anonymousreply 158November 27, 2021 3:44 PM

R144 Sexy AF. With that accent, he should have coached Gaga.

by Anonymousreply 159November 27, 2021 5:05 PM

R158, that's her schtick and it's all she's got to offer MSNBC's liberal audience: disenchanted Republican whining about how the GOP let her down. She's also very pretty but looks don't last forever, even on TV.

by Anonymousreply 160November 27, 2021 5:27 PM
Will someone explain to me Nicolle Wallace's show?

She's raising the alarm daily, as are most of her guests. Because if shit goes sideways in '22 or '24 we are doomed. And enough people are not getting that.

by Anonymousreply 161November 27, 2021 8:39 PM

Nicolle's interview with Chris Christie was pretty good; she gets good guests in the afternoon time slot she has. And as much as I hate to say it, I think Brian Williams is going to leave a pretty big hole after he exits. Despite his smarmy demeanor, he attracts good guests as well.

They need to replace that braying Tiffany Cross!! After they kick Joy Reid to the curb - HARD!

by Anonymousreply 162November 27, 2021 9:00 PM

Joy and Tiffany will be even more important at MSNBC, as it gets remade by Rashida Jones.

by Anonymousreply 163November 27, 2021 9:12 PM

R162 - Her interview (Grilling!) of Crispy Christie was delicious to watch. He is slippery but she held his feet to the fire and didn't let up.

Some time ago (early 2016) I heard an NPR broadcast where one of the guests suggested that someone on Trump's campaign should replace his self tanning lotion with Barbecue Sauce and wait for him to stand dangerously close to Chris Christie! It was quite funny at the time. I hope his book flops.

by Anonymousreply 164November 27, 2021 9:44 PM

Just a thought about which I'm not even sure, but it's a thought...

Joe Scarborough takes the Brian Williams slot. And MSNBC figures out someone else to host with Mika for Morning Joe.

R149 Well she is certainly no Kayleigh "I will never lie to you" McEnany, thankfully, however you calling Jen Psaki an idiot really doesn't make you anything remotely close to intelligent.

by Anonymousreply 167November 27, 2021 10:18 PM

I don't mind R158.EVERYONE should be talking about it 24/7 so that no one forgets and sweeps it under the carpet.

by Anonymousreply 168November 27, 2021 11:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 172November 28, 2021 10:51 AM

Nicolle wiping her sculpted ass with Chris Christie's book, will go down in the histories of Republican on Republican interviews.

The interview that killed a political career AND a book promo tour.

by Anonymousreply 173November 28, 2021 1:02 PM

R169, R170 OMG you really are idiotic if you actually think that clip hurts Nicolle Wallace in any way and know nothing about being a campaign spokesperson. As campaign spokesperson you never get out in front of where your candidate is on anything. You could find the same type of comments for the spokesperson of every losing candidate, you don't give up before your candidate does if you ever want to work a campaign again. You also won't find the campaign spokesperson declare victory before the candidate does.

I want to say nice try on your part though, but I can't because it wasn't.

by Anonymousreply 174November 28, 2021 1:22 PM
The interview that killed a political career

Christie's political career was already moribund. So Nicole (hopefully) did to him what Christie - flailing in the '16 GOP primaries - himself did to Marco Rubio, someone who might otherwise have been able to coalesce republican opposition to Trump when it was still possible, on his way out.

by Anonymousreply 175November 28, 2021 3:03 PM

The Yaz had Tara Setmayer on during the 4 o'clock hour and she really laid Lil Kevin McCarthy out for filth. She basically said she'd loan him her 'pair' since he doesn't seem to have any based on his fealty to DUMP and his followers. He ain't gonna be no speaker of any house unless he buys his own microphone!

by Anonymousreply 176November 28, 2021 8:41 PM

I am so tired of Morning Joe and marry band of Capitalist like Stephanie Ruhle on their mission to guilt people back to work from the perspective of their MSNBC bubble. They did it again last night. Stupid examples about brainstorming and mentors and getting ahead because you "showed up". They have no clue most offices are not run like fast paced media outlets where the hard workers with talent and fighters rise to the top overnight. Where older workers with power and seniority often act as mentors. Where salaries can quadruple if you are chosen to be in front of the camera.

Most office type jobs these days people are hired for one thing and one thing only. There is not recognition, because that means a pay raise which is why the most common way for an office or knowledge worker to get a raise over cost of living it to switch jobs. There is no mentoring because they expect you to not stay long and you should already know what you are doing. No one suddenly doubles or triples their salary no matter how much of a superstar you are, it's your job to be good at what you do. Congratulations, you get a piece of paper that say best working of the year. Oh, you wanted a raise for that? A bonus maybe? How about a round of pizza for the office on Friday (after work hours) to celebrate your success. Bring whatever you are drinking. No alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 196December 1, 2021 3:10 AM

Morning Joe has produced most of MSNBC's talent.

Willie Geist, Kasie Hunt, Nicolle Wallace, Jonathan Lemire, and many others all got their start as guest commentators on Morning Joe.

He really does have a knack for choosing smart and talented people to appear on his show, and clearly the network recognizes that talent.

by Anonymousreply 197December 1, 2021 6:36 PM

But he gave us Mika too.

by Anonymousreply 198December 1, 2021 8:48 PM

There are plenty of other contributors to MSNBC who are Pulitzer Prize winners, like Robert Costa, Ashley Parker,Carol Leonning and Phillip Rucker but they don't get that same treatment.

by Anonymousreply 204December 2, 2021 10:44 PM

R204, you can negotiate anything into a contract.

by Anonymousreply 205December 2, 2021 10:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 208December 3, 2021 1:02 AM

by Anonymousreply 209December 3, 2021 1:02 AM

The other night Rachel expressed amazement in the the hand-off to Lawrence that he would have FIVE guests on--in ONE hour! It's not that amazing if you bring in other people to talk, instead of focusing on your own solo "act" for most of your show.

by Anonymousreply 210December 3, 2021 12:42 PM
Does Eugene Robinson have in his contract that he is to be introduce as The Pulitzer Prize winner Eugene Robinson?

One of the reasons they do that is so they can differentiate themselves from Fox and Friends on at the same time who have two douche bros and always a blond bimbo with no real background in what they are talking about AT ALL. Because you have too many Trumpeters saying all the media is the same when you point out someone on Fox doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about.

by Anonymousreply 211December 3, 2021 12:50 PM

If I win the Pulitzer Prize, that information will be tattooed on my face. I don't blame the man, or anyone, for asking that it be included in his intro.

by Anonymousreply 212December 3, 2021 12:53 PM

To make things clear, I don't have a problem with Eugene Robinson being introduced as a Pulitzer Prize winner, I was just curious as to why only he gets that treatment. I was looking up The Washington Post's David Fahrenthold and discovered that he is a Pulitzer winner along with several other Washington Post MSNBC contributors, none of who get the Pulitzer introduction treatment.

by Anonymousreply 213December 3, 2021 4:40 PM

I just can't with Eugene Robinson.

Listening to him stutter through his commentary makes me want to kill myself.

He's better as a writer.

The should NEVER be in any speaking situation ever!!!

He is fucking painful to listen to.

by Anonymousreply 214December 3, 2021 5:16 PM

r214, Eugene’s no where near as painful to listen to as Johnathan Capeheart on Sundays.

by Anonymousreply 215December 3, 2021 5:29 PM
I was looking up The Washington Post's David Fahrenthold and discovered that he is a Pulitzer winner along with several other Washington Post MSNBC contributors, none of who get the Pulitzer introduction treatment.

Nicolle Wallace had introduced David as a Pulitzer Prize winner in the past. In fact, I can’t remember a time when she hasn’t.

by Anonymousreply 216December 3, 2021 6:10 PM

To be more precise, does Robinson have a stutter or a stammer?

In any case, it's painful to listen to.

by Anonymousreply 217December 3, 2021 6:21 PM

Come on MSNBC we need some fresh new people. And by that we mean stop looking to recycle good old boys or girls from Fox or other shit hole networks. I will never forgive you for unleashing Gretta on us. Hope you learned something from that. Your viewers have spoken.

There’s a loudly barking dog in the background on Brian’s show. WTF??

It’s apparently Cynthia Alksne’s dog. Why can’t she get someone to shut the thing up? It’s downright comical. MSNBC and their technical incompetence strikes again.

by Anonymousreply 230December 4, 2021 3:18 AM

Oh for doG's sake, R230, dogs bark. Did it ever occur to you that Cynthia might live alone with the dog and there was no one other than Cynthia to console and comfort her? Duh? I hope there was no prowler causing the dog's distress.

Get over yourself. There are more pressing matters in today's world than a temporarily anxious companion animal for you to wad your panties over.

It would've been all the same had it been a 2-year-old child instead strolling into camera range, looking for Mommy and sitting in her lap. Dogs and kids do not care that you're on live television.

R230 have you ever owned a dog, when something makes a dog start barking it is near impossible to force them to stop until whatever caused the barking goes away. If your dog hears something that makes them bark, they are going to bark.

Talking about interruptions, Sam Stein was on Deadline White House and his toddler son walked in, there was no stopping him from talking. Sam had to ask Nicolle for a second away from the camera to take care of his son, it was so cute and I rarely find kids cute. Sam said to his toddler son, "we are talking about Trump".

Nicolle loves when dogs and children wander in during her interviews. She always asks the guest to introduce the dog or child by name.

One of John Heileman’s dogs (Fife, I think his name was) passed away recently and it came up on the show. I remembered him and genuinely felt sad about it, even if I’m not necessarily a dog person.

I had been wondering WHET Steve McMahon (who used to be an MSNBC regular usually appearing alongside another "Steve" whose last name escapes me), and had no idea he and Cynthia are married. They seem like nice people individually, and probably make a lovely couple as well.

by Anonymousreply 245December 4, 2021 7:04 PM

Condolences to the Heilemanns on the death of their beloved pet. I remember him being a large breed dog; sadly, they don't live as long as their smaller kin, and so Fife was probably relatively young.

Romp in full and perfect health at Rainbow Bridge, dear doggy.🐶

by Anonymousreply 254December 5, 2021 6:07 PM

What Cuomo did was far more serious than Williams’ exaggerated personal stories. It seems he used his CNN staff to investigate his brother’s accusers and sought to spy on other journalists. He also lied to his bosses about these matters.

He’s not coming back.

Better than some Repug from fox that no one will watch no matter how much they get other anchors to vouch for them. Remember that disaster with Gretta Van Sustran? They put Rachael all over the air talking about what a great person she was and give her a chance, bla, bla, bla. Show died in a grease fire. No one watched.

My goodness, but Eugene "Dough-Boy" Daniels is packing on the pounds!

by Anonymousreply 262December 5, 2021 11:20 PM

I’ve seen Eugene Daniels out at a gay bar (JRs) and out in the neighborhood. He’s really nice in person.

by Anonymousreply 263December 5, 2021 11:30 PM

Of course Snow Queen Eugene Daniels would be in the predominantly white JRs. You could probably find Johnathan Capeheart there as well.

by Anonymousreply 264December 5, 2021 11:39 PM

R264, LOL

Is there anywhere queer POC gather in DC????

by Anonymousreply 265December 5, 2021 11:52 PM

r265, It used to be the Bachelor’s Mill but that closed down. Most queer POC do hang out upstairs in The Fireplace, a place I haven’t been to in years. JRs is supposedly a tad more diverse than it was in the 90s but still, no surprise Eugene goes there. I’m sure Don Lemon would probably go there if she’s in DC. Most of these black cable and local gay newscasters seem to be with white men. Interesting.

by Anonymousreply 266December 6, 2021 12:18 AM
Is there anywhere queer POC gather in DC????

The Fireplace, Glorious Health Club. There’s also an older black gay bar in Navy Yard at Eighth and M Streets SE but I can’t remember what it’s called.

by Anonymousreply 267December 6, 2021 12:19 AM

QUOTE] It used to be the Bachelor’s Mill but that closed down. Thank you, R266. That’s exactly what I was thinking of.

by Anonymousreply 268December 6, 2021 12:20 AM

I saw Paul Butler at Number Nine once. I had no idea he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 269December 6, 2021 12:21 AM

r267, the black gay bar near Navy Yard was the Bachelor’s Mill which closed sometime ago.

Leave Eugene Robinson alone! He won a Pulitzer. What did you ever win?

by Anonymousreply 273December 6, 2021 8:18 AM

I like Eugene. Great voice.

by Anonymousreply 274December 6, 2021 1:16 PM

Happy Monday, time for Maddow.

by Anonymousreply 275December 7, 2021 1:05 AM

Rachel was dark and foreboding tonight.

We are all going to live in Potter's Field.

by Anonymousreply 276December 7, 2021 2:45 AM

Is Rachel ever going to show the left side of her face again? Yes, I know she had a skin cancer removed, but it should be healed by now. And she's not very attractive anyway that a scar would make a difference. The weird camera angle makes her seem even more twitchy and disjointed than usual.

by Anonymousreply 277December 7, 2021 2:49 AM

If another TV reporter was attempting to dig up info on Andrew Cuomo's accusers would that be considered bad journalism?

R282 Exactly what I was going to say. Think it started with nervousness. She needs to take a breathe.

by Anonymousreply 284December 7, 2021 9:40 PM

Joy was an inferno tonight (unlike Rachel's 'on fire') with her 'Cow' jokes/puns in reference to Devin None-Yuz and his career change. No doubt all the bovines in California are doing the cow pie shuffle in their delight that Devin will no longer be representing them!

by Anonymousreply 285December 7, 2021 11:59 PM

That Reid woman is beyond help: when you have Alexander Vindman on to discuss that day's Biden/Putin meeting, you do not rush him off. Give that man all the time he needs to inform your viewers (and your dumb ass) about Putin and Ukraine and how that tightrope act affects us.

She remains as messy as ever.

by Anonymousreply 286December 8, 2021 12:51 AM

Okay, but Yamiche has got to do something about her wall. Whatever that thing with the plants is attempting to do, it’s not working.

Damn, I forgot he's leaving!

Who wants to bet money that he's going to leave with a bang?

I predict he's gonna unleash on MSNBC and they'll have to cut him off.

He seems really disgusted with the network.

by Anonymousreply 302December 9, 2021 6:21 AM

No, he stayed this long, he's not going to burn his bridges on air. He will get more view sympathy if it looks like he is leaving grace than turning into some drama queen. AKA Chris Mathews.

They need to give Katty more air time, really nice to have an outside perspective.

by Anonymousreply 306December 9, 2021 1:23 PM

I missed the earlier moment, too, but it sounded like Mika and Katty were giggling about a photo of a hot young MIchael Steele. I'd love to see that!

by Anonymousreply 311December 9, 2021 3:35 PM

I can't wait to see Brian Williams go BALLISTIC on Rashida Jones.

Fuck her!!!!

by Anonymousreply 312December 9, 2021 5:41 PM

Daniel Craig is the new Brian Williams.

by Anonymousreply 313December 9, 2021 6:22 PM

He’s being replaced by a black woman, right?

by Anonymousreply 314December 9, 2021 6:41 PM

Only if Chris Jansing is "passing," R314. (And, no, she is not - Ms. Jansing is White).

Chris Jansing deserves and has earned the "11th Hour" chair.

by Anonymousreply 315December 9, 2021 6:49 PM

I really like the structure of The 11th Hour. First segment: 5 minute summary of the day's news events followed by a 15 min discussion of the 2 or 3 top stories; 2 segments of commentary; a health segment; finally "Last Thing Before We Go".... (often I'll ff thru most of the show but I always watch that segment).

I hope they keep the structure no matter who they replace B Williams with.

by Anonymousreply 316December 9, 2021 6:49 PM

BW's show's strength was how much it was guest-driven. Unlike a certain "star" who appears as a predominantly self-indulgent solo act two hours before.

by Anonymousreply 317December 9, 2021 7:24 PM

That’s not fair, R317. Rachel often has guests on to tell her she said what they are about to say “exactly right.”

by Anonymousreply 318December 9, 2021 7:28 PM

If MSNBC is smart they'll try out lots of different hosts on the 11th hour over the next several months, some old faces and hopefully some new ones, and see if ratings go up or down. What's the hurry to find a permanent replacement? Give each guest host a week or two.

by Anonymousreply 319December 9, 2021 7:36 PM

r319, The View is on ABC

by Anonymousreply 320December 9, 2021 7:39 PM

It will probably be Jason Johnson.

by Anonymousreply 321December 9, 2021 7:57 PM

Can't wait until Brian Williams tells off Rashida Jones!!!!

She's the worst.

by Anonymousreply 322December 9, 2021 8:04 PM

Brian Williams didn't make the show all about him, so if they keep the format that Brian was using, pretty much anyone could replace him. I doubt they will keep the format though.

by Anonymousreply 323December 9, 2021 8:06 PM

R318, Exactly. Why does she even have guests on? We know, we know. You never get anything wrong. You're perfect.

by Anonymousreply 324December 9, 2021 8:40 PM
Rachel often has guests on to tell her she said what they are about to say “exactly right.”

Just once, when Rachel asks a guest, "Did I get anything wrong?" I'd love to hear the guest say, "Rachel, you got it all wrong. You totally messed it up." I'd love to see how Rachel reacts. Or, better yet, I'd love to hear a guest say, "Rachel, you got it exactly right. But it took you forever to get to the point."

by Anonymousreply 325December 9, 2021 8:54 PM

Nicolle's second hour today, covering the Appeals Court ruling against donald, is television news at its finest.

by Anonymousreply 326December 9, 2021 9:40 PM

Brian Williams has been the most polite host on MSNBC other than Andrea Mitchell.

by Anonymousreply 327December 9, 2021 9:47 PM

Yeah I wouldn't expect Brian Williams to burn any bridges on his way out the door, or burn anyone, he will handle it will class, laud all the people at NBC and remain silent about anyone he had problems with, assuming they even exist.

by Anonymousreply 328December 9, 2021 9:51 PM

Since he'll be a free man after tonight, Brian should guest host SNL again. One of his guests last night told him he should embark on a comedy career.

by Anonymousreply 329December 9, 2021 10:55 PM

Racist Joy Reid won't even mention Juicy Smollett.

by Anonymousreply 334December 9, 2021 11:15 PM

Why oh Why is MSNBC running commercial saluting Bob Dole? He supported Trump, I don't care what else he did, supporting Trump means he shouldn't be saluted by MSNBC.

by Anonymousreply 335December 9, 2021 11:58 PM

Dole will be forgotten tomorrow. Calm down, r335.

by Anonymousreply 336December 10, 2021 12:06 AM

Brian's format (essentially summing up the day's news) is exactly what you want to see at 11 pm. I can't imagine MSNBC will allow that to change no matter who takes over.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing a table of commentators sitting with the host around a table like the old David Gur show. There could even be do-nuts but with hot chocolate or warmed milk instead of coffee.

by Anonymousreply 337December 10, 2021 12:09 AM

I'm just wild about Harry (Litman)!

by Anonymousreply 338December 10, 2021 12:32 AM

Heads up, it's official, MSNBC is now BET.

1,000 bet that Brian's replacement will be a black woman.

HEY, RASHIDA! There are other colors in the rainbow besides black and white you know. Why are there not prominent Asians or Native Americans or Hispanics in PRIME slots? Hmmmm?

by Anonymousreply 339December 10, 2021 12:44 AM

Is Ali Alexander, the Sammy Davis, Jr. lookalike, being set up to be the fall-guy for donald and the insurrectionists? He seems to be a young Black man with serious mental (and related) issues.

Fuck him! Turn up the grease fire, somebody.

by Anonymousreply 340December 10, 2021 12:47 AM

Just as a thought experiment, wouldn't it be funny if MSNBC replaced Brian Willimas with a comedian who trolled Fox everyday? Like Trey Crowder the Liberal Redneck? Fox would be thrown so off guard. They wouldn't know what to do. I would dye laughing at them. I mean come on, Fox and Friends is a joke anyways right?

Joy's goodbye to Brian Williams was nasty. While everyone else gave a 5 minute or so goodbye, sharing a sweet antidote and sincere well wishes, at the end of her show, Joy couldn't have been bothered by any of that. She gave him a 2 second send off, a quick "bye, love,ya." Guess there was no love lost between those two. Just awful on her part.

by Anonymousreply 365December 10, 2021 8:13 AM

That was an excellent sign off from Brian last night.

And now for something completely different: Claire McCaskill had a nice selection of treats behind her on Morning Joe earlier today.

by Anonymousreply 366December 10, 2021 1:08 PM

Was Kornacki one of the guests on Williams's final broadcast?

by Anonymousreply 367December 10, 2021 1:13 PM

No, Kornacki wasn't on.

He had on Phil Rucker, Nicolle Wallace, Eugene Robinson, Jon Meacham and Michael Beschloss

by Anonymousreply 368December 10, 2021 2:19 PM

Is Kornacki primarily on NBC now? Because other than if it's election night and he's at the board, I never see him on MSNBC anymore.

by Anonymousreply 369December 10, 2021 3:33 PM

R366 - Yes, that was a very dignified farewell by Brian. I have always loved his sophisticated sense of humor - I think he makes those quips to see if people are paying attention. Yeah, Claire had a three tier goodie plate however I noticed that the treats were all pushed to the front with bare spots on the back of each tier. Could Claire have sampled while waiting to go live?

by Anonymousreply 370December 10, 2021 4:55 PM

Last night Lawrence O'Donnell said he knows he'll accidently say Brian's name when introducing "The 11th Hour with Brian Williams" as opposed to the replacement "Ali Velshi...or whoever." Interesting.

In Brain's typically witty, and classy, 'farewell speech' did anyone else notice how much he enunciated "with" when he thanked "All those I've worked WITH." Perhaps some subtle shade toward those he worked FOR?

by Anonymousreply 371December 10, 2021 5:13 PM

Love Steve Kornacki but I can't imagine he could have summoned the eloquence expressed by the very clearly specially-invited guests for Brian's last show, including Phil, Nicolle, Carville, Beschloss and Jon Meachum. And even Eugene Robinson (excuse me, the PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING Eugene Robinson). who's been mocked here for his stuttering delivery but spoke so heafrtily and warmly about Brian.

I have to admit, I shed a tear or two.

by Anonymousreply 372December 10, 2021 5:21 PM

He had Carville on too, speaking truth about how the wimpy ass Democrats better toughen up and start fighting as dirty as Repugs.

by Anonymousreply 373December 10, 2021 5:22 PM

Damn, I missed Phil! Did he decorate yet?

by Anonymousreply 375December 10, 2021 6:14 PM

I doubt Brian Williams meant it as a slam against Rachel but he said something to the effect that his show has always been about the guests and the viewers, that if he had spent the entire hours talking into the camera the viewers wouldn't have stuck around long, but I couldn't help but think of Rachel as he was saying that.

by Anonymousreply 376December 10, 2021 8:25 PM

I love Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow for how well-prepared they are. But I'm saddened to see that Nicolle had plastic surgery and I don't think it looks great. And along her hair extensions, she looks like Melania. Now I see that her boyfriends, Michael Schmidt, if finally letting his receding hairline show but he's coloring his hair. I'm probably in the minority, but I'd like to see people as they really are. Bob Dole was coloring his hair up to the very end, and he looked silly.

Three healthy-looking red Poinsettia plants as a centerpiece, and a small arrangement of pinecones & fir branches on the sideboard. That appears to be the extent of it. Understated.

by Anonymousreply 396December 12, 2021 6:12 AM

R395 He can tag team Sam Brock for assignments.

by Anonymousreply 397December 12, 2021 7:56 AM

I think Phil is Jewish (though non-observant). Give him a break on the Christmas decorations, please.

I can’t take Capeheart’s verbal stumbling, especially during interviews. It’s embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 399December 12, 2021 8:29 PM

R399 Nicole Wallace frequently stutters. "I, I, I, I"

by Anonymousreply 400December 12, 2021 8:42 PM

So does Anderson Cooper (different network, same problem) -- I got used to it after awhile.

by Anonymousreply 405December 12, 2021 11:12 PM

I would love to see Joy Reid get the boot and give her time slot to Michael Bechloss and Jon Meacham. They appeared together on Brian Williams' sendoff show, and they are so impressive. They could pick various topic, both current and historical -there is A LOT these gentlemen could teach us!! So much of the country is woefully ignorant about our own history.

I'd say call it THE HISTORY BOYS, but I think that's already taken - but I'd watch it for sure!!!

by Anonymousreply 406December 13, 2021 1:29 AM

Great idea, R406 -- too bad networks other than PBS have no interest in educating the public. The other important subject of which Americans are ignorant is civics, how their government is designed to work. In a democracy, where the government is theoretically run by the people, the voters should understand the system they're participating in but it's obvious that many/most do not. Immigrants who become citizens are required to pass a test on basic U.S. history and civics, but those of us who are born citizens never have to do that, apparently not even in order to graduate from high school. So much for compulsory public education!

by Anonymousreply 407December 13, 2021 1:47 AM

Brian Klaus showed up on Capeheart’s show this morning and he’s fucking HOT! What’s the story on him?

by Anonymousreply 408December 13, 2021 7:20 AM

Is he related to Santa, R408?

by Anonymousreply 409December 13, 2021 9:21 AM

Earlier on Morning Joe was my first time seeing congressional reporter Hugo Lowell.

I think he's one of the youngest guys (at 22 years old) I've seen on the show.

by Anonymousreply 410December 13, 2021 11:50 AM

by Anonymousreply 411December 13, 2021 12:54 PM

Chris Hayes, right?, on MSNBC every weekday eveing, right?, drives me up the wall, right?, by doing this, right? It's even worse, right?, than his insane overuse of "like", right?

WHET Louis Burgdorf, the hot young intern/producer on Morning Joe who managed to get a lot of screen time just because he was so good looking?

Somebody at MSNBC eventually woke up and realized Louis Burgdorf was Way Too Early for smug douchebro.

He got #metoo'ed.

Just like all the other hot guys that ugly women try to takedown.

by Anonymousreply 415December 13, 2021 8:08 PM

I like how intense Chris Hayes is but I can't help laughing when he's sitting at the table because then he constantly uses his hands to tap all over it as he makes points. Even more hilarious when there's a guest there and he'll start reaching towards the guest

by Anonymousreply 416December 13, 2021 8:09 PM

R416, for his wife's sake, I hope he's as intense a lover as he is an interviewer.

There was video fotage of it in a previous MSNBC thread, followed by an apology.

Monday Maddow time!

by Anonymousreply 421December 14, 2021 1:01 AM

So the Rachel Maddow show is too reserved to allow the word "shit" to be said by a member of congress reading texts, when the other MSNBC shows play the word? Come on Rachel you have heard that word before.

by Anonymousreply 422December 14, 2021 2:13 AM

Lawrence allowed it. Maybe it' an after 10 pm ruling (And I know they allowed it earlier in real time when Liz Cheney uttered it).

by Anonymousreply 423December 14, 2021 2:17 AM

R423 No, they showed it during the 8pm hour.

by Anonymousreply 424December 14, 2021 2:41 AM

Did anyone else catch Joy haranguing that blonde reporter LeeAnne (with the Twiggy hairdo) to look out for a Jan. 6 Committee Congressperson to speak with her live on camera? She had to tell Joy she didn't have eyes in the back of her head....it was pretty funny.

by Anonymousreply 426December 14, 2021 4:15 AM

We really need some BIG moment on the Mark Meadows business - I'd love to see him cornered and attempt suicide and see what happens then.

by Anonymousreply 430December 14, 2021 1:31 PM

R426, Sounds like Joy was bitten by the jealousy bug because while Nicole was talking to Garrett Haake, he spotted Jamie Raskin out of the corner of his eye, grabbed him and interviewed him live.

Joy was probably seething at all the positive attention and praise that Nicole and Garrett had gotten from that perfect moment.

They need to put Fox into an Infotainment category. It is not Cable News.

by Anonymousreply 437December 15, 2021 4:16 AM

That's a great point, R437. Fox's ratings should not be measured against that of legitimate news networks. Its purpose is infotainment and misinformation, not journalism.

by Anonymousreply 442December 16, 2021 1:21 AM

Shiny-faced Joy Reid went on air wearing a stained grey sweater tonight. What a mess!

by Anonymousreply 443December 16, 2021 5:24 AM

R436 Tucker was such a whiney entitled Yuppie twat when he was on CNN in the 90's, I can't understand how he has now amassed a huge following, especially among Fox viewers. I won't be watching to find out why.

Just seems so like the kind of douche that Fox good-ole-boys would love to mock-lynch, to watch him wet his self.

by Anonymousreply 444December 16, 2021 6:07 AM

R444 "especially among Fox viewers."

It's BECAUSE it's Fox viewers. Fox is the only network where bigoted white supremacists can succeed. Fox viewers are very lazy. They'll watch anyone who is placed in the Prime Time line-up as long as hate and division is being spewed. Tucker, Hannity, and Ingraham are successful ONLY because of their time slots. If they were to leave Fox, they would fail miserably.

Remember Bill O'Reilly? Megan Kelly? Fox viewers don't. And their ratings were huge until the very end.

by Anonymousreply 445December 16, 2021 6:34 AM

Carlson replaced Van Susteren, and then Kelly in 2017. He spent the next 5 years massaging Trumps's prostate and spouting white grievance. If you can stoke white grievance on Fox you are golden.

by Anonymousreply 446December 16, 2021 7:26 AM

Tucker was fired from 3 other networks before Fox. They love sloppy seconds.

by Anonymousreply 447December 16, 2021 7:34 AM

So Joe Scarborough had this to say this morning:

"The tax policies I have supported through the '80s and '90s - and continue to be supported by Republicans in the 21st century - have created the greatest income redistribution in the history of this planet - from middle class America to the Elon Musks of the world. It is [bold]grotesque[/bold]!"

To which journalist/author Anand Giridharadas replied: "The trends are so bad, you and I now sound the same talking about these issues. Just think about [bold]that[/bold) for a second."

by Anonymousreply 448December 16, 2021 1:02 PM

And yet, Fox Infotainment has NOTHING about Republican traitors in their programming.

I predict, one day soon, Fox will air pictures of cows 27/7.

by Anonymousreply 449December 16, 2021 1:05 PM

Too late now, Joe.

You were a huge part of the problem.

Now you want to atone for your "sins?"

No thanks.

by Anonymousreply 450December 16, 2021 4:55 PM

Why don't we talk more about HOT metrosexualist Clint Watts on this thread?

by Anonymousreply 451December 16, 2021 9:06 PM

R451 He's been drooled over in the past, has he been on recently? We get lots of Frank Figliuzzi, and even Peter Strzok, but not much of Clint.

by Anonymousreply 452December 16, 2021 9:22 PM

Clint's on right now with Nicolle. He's still on her show often.

by Anonymousreply 453December 16, 2021 9:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 454December 17, 2021 1:16 AM

I don't blame Nicolle. Michael Schmidt is a cutie pie.

by Anonymousreply 455December 17, 2021 1:27 AM

In what way, R455? His appeal is lost on me.

by Anonymousreply 456December 17, 2021 2:25 AM

Though I like Chris Jansing, I must admit I've pretty much bailed on 11th Hour now that Brian is gone. Perhaps I'll return if they find someone really compelling to take his place but until then, I switch channels now once Rachel is over.

by Anonymousreply 457December 17, 2021 4:46 AM
I'll return if they find someone really compelling to take his place

With Brian gone and with Rachel soon to stop doing her nightly show, MSNBC is in trouble. They have several perfectly competent people, like Chris Jansing, they could promote or move into a prime time slot, but nobody who's very compelling and would make people want to tune in every night. They need to look outside the network and find new people to shake things up, but I have no idea who those new people would be.

by Anonymousreply 458December 17, 2021 5:49 AM

I just don't know about Rachel moving to the weekends. There's just something so desolate about weekends on MSNBC -- what are they going to do, sandwich her between Mehdi Hasan and documentaries on a Sunday night? Would anybody really care enough to seek her out every week? Or would she, after a few weeks of feeling like she's yelling into a vacuum, want to move back to weeknights?

by Anonymousreply 459December 17, 2021 6:27 AM

What about Alex Witt? She's been with MSNBC since Bill Clinton was president. Maybe it's time to finally give Alex Witt her due and have her take over Rachel's prime-time slot.

by Anonymousreply 460December 17, 2021 6:34 AM
With Brian gone and with Rachel soon to stop doing her nightly show, MSNBC is in trouble.

You can thank Rashida Jones for that.

And her bright idea is to give Yamiche Alcindor a show. What a joke!

She's running the fucking network into the ground.

And the parent company will never fire her, because..... you know.

by Anonymousreply 461December 17, 2021 8:09 AM

R452 Pete Strzok is fuckin' hot!!!! OMG I mean really fucking hot!!!!

by Anonymousreply 462December 17, 2021 8:10 AM

Joe Scarborough is always a day late and a dollar short with his political epiphanies. He AND Mika gave Trump the biggest media platform any presidential candidate could dream of day after day on his show until their little bromance came to a halt. Then he suddenly had and another epiphany.

Joe probably gave Trump more live air time than any other news outlet including Fox.

by Anonymousreply 463December 17, 2021 9:46 AM

Has anyone noticed that BET ah I mean MSNBC as no Asian Americans or Hispanics with their own show? It's like the black and white network.

by Anonymousreply 464December 17, 2021 9:49 AM

NBC might be using MSNBC as a pre retirement gig. Lester Holt for 11th Hour?

Hey, Rashida grrrl.....

by Anonymousreply 465December 17, 2021 11:41 AM

Lazy bitch.

No wonder she borrows thousands of dollars from friends, and doesn't pay them back.
Ali Velshi and Medhi Hasan are Asian, and Jose Balart is Hispanic.

The British definition of "Asian" and the American definition are completely different.

In the UK Ali and Medhi might be considered "Asian."

But in the US, Ali and Medhi are considered to be Indian (dot, not feather).

To us, Asians are orientals. The ones from china, japan and korea, etc.

by Anonymousreply 471December 17, 2021 5:25 PM

Latina Alicia Menendez has her own weekend show. And I'm a big fan, wouldn't mind seeing her replace someone like Andrea or Haley during the week.
