Do any of you suffer from persistent bloody noses?

If so what have you done to stop them? Cauterization? Other remedies?

Chemotherapy for acute leukemia.

I use to until my chiropractor suggested I try taking a Vitamin K supplement. I took it for a couple of years and then stopped and my nose bleeding was greatly reduced to almost zero but not quite zero.

[quote] Vitamin K is another great nutrient to consider when trying to help nosebleeds. This nutrient plays an important role in coagulation, better known as blood clotting. Your body needs vitamin K in order to produce the proteins that go to work during the clotting process. The telltale sign of vitamin K deficiency is bleeding too much.

You have to weigh the downside of having a bloody nose against the benefit of poppers and decide which is more important to you,

I used to take a lot of aspirin, and my nose had a tendency to bleed for extended periods. I stopped with the frequent aspirin . . . and the nosebleeds stopped. Aspirin and other NSAIDS as well as magnesium salicylate (the Doan's Pills sort of thing)--all of these interfere with blood clotting and so promote bleeding . . . not just in your nose but all over . . . and inside you too.

Stop picking your nose, it's that simple.

by Anonymousreply 7November 16, 2021 2:56 AM

Start lightly swirling/swabbing the inside your nostrils (the actual membranes, not just the hairs) once a day with a q-tip coated in aquaphor. Do this every day. Don’t blow your nose hard - be super gentle. Don’t pick your nose. Don’t use rolled up tissues shoved in your nose to stop a nosebleed. Don’t use rolled up tissues shoved in your nose to stop a runny nose. And after a nosebleed, don’t even think of blowing your nose, touching your nose or putting any q-tips with aquaphor up there for at least 12 hours to let the area that bled heal a bit.

Cauterization. It stopped the almost daily nosebleeds for good.

Obviously it could be something medical but once it gets dry inside from the heating starting up the nose also gets dry.

Make sure your home has some humidity even if it's just putting glasses of water out. No not like

What is with the “it’s leukemia” troll?

cauterizing worked for me.

There is some sort of special surgery they can do to. I forget what it is called. My ENT sent me to the surgeon and she said it could help me if cauterizing didn't.

I've had them since I was a kid. Not sure why.

Are you taking too much Vitamin E? I had nosebleeds all the time when I was taking a Vitamin E supplement. It's a blood thinner.

Thanks for the advice. Very helpful.

Nosebleed guy (not me) is happy too.

You have to have the cauterizing done regularly. Like twice a year or so.

Go to an ENT and not a regular doctor or urgent care.

ENT's have special equipment that make it so simple.

Urgent care and regular doctors don't. It's a nightmare when they don't.

Do you have dry sinuses? Maybe do a sinus rinse?

by Anonymousreply 18November 17, 2021 5:02 AM

I quit taking Zoloft four years ago, after 18 years. Two side effects of quitting after this much time. 1) Constantly runny nose. It never lets up. 2) Flashes, like lightning on a dark hillside, of dreams I've had. Totally random. I must say, it's entertaining. But the runny nose is the limit.
