They were supposed to be as big as one direction.

[quote] WHET 5 Seconds Of Summer?
They had their five seconds of fame.

Their interview with Rolling Stone, in which they bragged about fucking groupies and came across as giant assholes, at the peak of their fame caused a backlash among their teen girl fans and killed all of their momentum.

The hot Asian one has a dickpic leak early in their career, I think that kind of put the ixnay on them with the tween set.

I always get them confused with the British group The 1975

R3 There is no Asian one, there's a half Maori one (New Zealand indigenous Polynesian). Calum Hood.
These guys didn't flop, they still have #1 albums and they tour pretty big venues, I had tix to their 2020 tour but it's been pushed back to 2022. I don't know if they were "supposed" to be as big as 1D, how does that type of supposing work? They aren't a boyband like 1D - they're one of the few big, young rock bands now.

I never buy seconds.

R7 I don't get it
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 12, 2022 1:23 AM |
Maybe if you explain what that has to do with 5SOS...?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 12, 2022 4:47 AM |
Never mind, I get it, it's a dumb joke, though.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 12, 2022 4:49 AM |
I saw them open for 1D and they were very good. Played their own instruments.
I also like The Vamps. Much more interesting than 1D.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 12, 2022 4:49 AM |
Yeah they play their own instruments. From the beginning, they've been a band, but because they opened for 1D - I guess that's the reason - people think they're a boy band. Also maybe because they all sing lead on some songs, or sometimes a few of them sing on one song - though technically Luke Hemmings is the lead singer.

We ARE "big"!
It's the venues for prefabricated boy bands that got small...
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 3, 2022 2:03 AM |
R16 They're not a boy band. They're a rock band, as people have already said, they play instruments. They weren't prefabricated, they were school chums from Sydney who made a band and promoted themselves on YouTube and got noticed.

They grew ugly and then expired.

who ?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 3, 2022 6:07 AM |
R20 Thanks for posting that. Love their interviews, they're always funny.

Anyway hey never change much (Personality wise) - Ashton's psychobabble or pseudo-spiritual whatever, Calum never talking until he's asked, but then saying something interesting, Michael kind of outgoing and bubbly, and Luke who's sort of shy for a frontman, but seemingly sincere.

*they

I just saw them last Saturday night. They really are an awesome band most people are sleeping on. Venue was packed and it was anamazing show, they played 24 songs (I was told, I didn't count). Either you love them or you don't, I guess.

*an amazing show

They have brand new music out now.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 14, 2022 5:36 PM |
They played 4 new songs in the concert. The one I don't know too well yet is Blender. I'm not sure if I like it. I love Me Myself And I, Complete Mess, and Take My Hand (also the name of the tour). I had the tickets over 2 years so I'm glad I finally got to see them.

I parked near the buses so I saw Luke walking to their bus later. He had a black suit on in the concert and had a black tank top and black pants on later. He looks way thinner in person. Also "saw" Ashton but only because people were screaming for him and he turned around for a second. I missed him, really.

They have a few catchy songs, but even 6-7 years ago they were always doing “takeovers” on KIIS fm in LA and everything had a whiff of payola. It felt like the label was paying a lot of money to make them happen

They did also get a bit less cute over time. It’s interesting because since they started so young, they’ve been around forever but really aren’t as old as you’d think. They’re only just now in their mid-20’s.

Well all but one of their albums have been #1 albums and the concert I went to, 5000, seemed sold out, so it's not like they're unpopular.
(Calm didn't debut at #1 only because of a glitch where they gave away physical albums with ticket sales, and they were mailed too early - Billboard counted that as 1st week sales, denying them the #1 they would have had).
A couple of them were cuter younger but personally I kind of like that they aren't prett-boys any more and they seem as liked for their music and personalities. I mean they themselves aren't actually selling themselves for their looks, they don't seyem to care, so just me talking but I kind of like that about them. They were never raving beauties anyhow.

My mistake, they do chart in Australia, which is where I should have looked in the first place.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 14, 2022 6:06 PM |
They played at the NYC 4th of July celebration.

R34 What are you talking about? They had 3 albums debut on the Billboard Top 200.
[quote]In the United States, it (youngblood) became their third number-one album on the Billboard 200 chart, debuting with 142,000 album-equivalent units, including 117,000 in pure album sales. The album debuted ahead of the Carters' (Beyoncé and Jay-Z) Everything Is Love, with industry forecasters initially unsure of which album would take the top spot.[51] This made them the first Australian act with three number-one albums in the US.[52] It also led to 5 Seconds of Summer being the first band (not vocal group) to have their first three full-length studio albums debut atop the Billboard 200. The album consecutively remained on the Billboard 200 chart for a total of 63 weeks (approximately one year and four months).[52]
As I said, re Calm:
[quote]Due to a shipping error, 11,000 copies were released early in the US, causing Calm to debut a week early at number 62 on the Billboard 200, before ascending to number two in its second week, marking the band's fifth top 10 album. In its second week, it earned 133,000 album-equivalent unit. It was kept from the number-one spot by The Weeknd's After Hours by 5,000 units.[56] The fact that the album would have been number-one if it had not mistakenly been released a week early, sparked outrage among the band's fans with hashtags such as #BillboardCountThe10k trending on Twitter and the creation of a petition with more than 50,000 signatures. Several radio stations like Sirius XM Hits 1 and radio hosts like Elvis Duran, also voiced their support for the band either on-air or on Twitter.[57][58] However, according to Billboard, their policy is to reflect album sale activity in the tracking week that the paying customer receives an album.[56]

I had a great time at the Boston concert around a month ago. They were awesome. Some of their fans need to learn how to dress, though. But it was a sweet semi-outdoor concert at Leader Bank Pavillion on the waterfront and they're a very tight band. Glad I went.

Is this that shitty band Jered Leto is in?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 6, 2022 11:16 PM |
R40 Maybe not but they sold out MSG last summer. They also played two shows in a venue in my city that was the same size as the one they only played one show at, the previous tour (the year before). (And sold both shows out.) There are a lot of bands that have a ton of fans and do this kind of business, that maybe aren't on the top tier, like Ed Sheeran or Bieber. But then, there are not very many successful rock bands in the music business at all, any more, who aren't old men.

They didn't even get 15 minutes
