Discuss this photo of Matt Damon & Ben Affleck

Two boys from Boston in the 80’s in a photo booth together with matching necklaces?

That photo screams "A zoo was eventually acquired and became community property."

OP is at least 86 years old

by Anonymousreply 4November 13, 2021 10:42 PM

But he looks 68.

by Anonymousreply 5November 14, 2021 12:33 AM

Yes, OP. I think you’ve answered your own question.

by Anonymousreply 6November 14, 2021 2:05 AM

They are not from Boston proper. Neither are the Wahlbergs. They are all from the Boston metropolitan area though. It's like saying Mariah Carey, Lindsay Lohan and Ralph Macchio are New Yorkers even though they are all from Long Island.

Lonk Guyland.

by Anonymousreply 8November 14, 2021 2:13 AM

That is some faggotivity right there

by Anonymousreply 9November 14, 2021 2:14 AM

I also found their Boston accents in Good Will Hunting to sound so fake. They are from upper middle-class homes and clearly well-traveled. So they were not convincing to me as working-class townies.

by Anonymousreply 10November 14, 2021 2:15 AM

Not a flattering photo of Matt. He’s giving major Carrot Top face.

by Anonymousreply 11November 14, 2021 2:16 AM

Ben only seems to genuinely smile around Matt I noticed. You can tell he really loves him. I don't think he is gay but he clearly deeply traumatized (I think he had a dysfunctional family) and thus seems incapable of forming relationships. He never smiles on the red carpet, he forces his smile in photoshoots and he looked bored with both Garner and Lopez. Matt is one of his oldest friends, so he feels most comfortable around him.

I remember Ben Affleck discussing on one of the late night talk shows about trying on a condom when he was a teen and manipulating his penis to get erect to try it on for size.

Ben looks like many people from The UK and Ireland. He is of English, Scottish, German and Irish ancestry like every other white American. He's as basic as a white boy you can get. I find Matt Damon more interesting looking. Ben is aging better though.

[quote] I find Matt Damon more interesting looking

Why?

[quote] Ben is aging better though.

He looks quite awful much of the time.

I remember reading gossip years ago that when Matt and Ben were young, they would hire hookers and fuck them together.

by Anonymousreply 20November 14, 2021 3:07 AM

Puka shell necklaces were a 70s thing, like disco. By the 80s they were out of fashion.

I remember someone in the know saying that years ago when they were putting together and making Good Will Hunting people knew that the two of them were sleeping together.

The comments on that IG post are hilarious:

"From strangers... to lovers... to strangers again"

"They are dating"

"They were such a cute couple, why did they break up?"

"Is that Hillary Swank? Who is she babysitting?"

"Douchebag duet"

by Anonymousreply 23November 14, 2021 4:02 AM

Ben looked better with bangs.

R7 They’re not from Boston but I wouldn’t compare Cambridge or Dorchester or Roxbury to Long Island. I’ve been to Long Island, it’s far away from Manhattan! You can walk to Boston if you’re in Cambridge.

Those celebrities are all from the equivalent of Harlem, Bronx, Brooklyn to Manhattan, not Long Island.

by Anonymousreply 25November 14, 2021 6:34 AM

Matt Damon looks like a FUCKIN MONKEY

by Anonymousreply 26November 14, 2021 6:37 AM

R10 I feel like you have to be REALLY low brow and common to have that thick stereotypical Boston accent. Like your father was a plumber and your mother was a waitress or hairdresser.

Everyone mostly sounds normal but the R is dropped.

But people think everybody sounds that video and it’s not true at all.

But I’m from Lynn and I know trashy people all the way to Salem who have that hideous accent. It’s not common!

Team Ben, then & now.

by Anonymousreply 28November 14, 2021 6:46 AM

I think most middle class Americans under the age of 50 don't have heavy accents in general. People with strong accents tend to be old, working-class or live in rural isolated areas. Ben Affleck is an awful actor and Matt Damon is serviceable, sometimes good.

by Anonymousreply 29November 14, 2021 6:50 AM

R27 she kinda sounds like a drunken Lois from Family Guy .

by Anonymousreply 30November 14, 2021 6:52 AM

Case closed!

A cute photo

by Anonymousreply 32November 14, 2021 7:18 AM

The Boston accent is a lazy affect and encouraged by locals if you’re a “townie” in a Boston burb. I’m from Winthrop, a little spit of sand of a town jutting out over Boston Harbor- and the people that don’t ever leave the town have it bad. My mom’s accent was terrible, but actually improved when she was admitted to a Stoneham nursing home 45 minutes away.

I spent a two week vacation in San Diego with a bunch of acting friends when I was still in high school, started hearing it and it disappeared entirely. I actually have people suddenly stop conversation and comment all the time I have absolutely NO accent at all! LOL

That is home to the Stone Zoo where the Christmas Moose is a docent.
