Andrew Garfield says he was ‘pressured’ to apologise for bisexual Spider-Man comments

On his time as the superhero, Garfield said: “I worked harder than I’ve ever worked on anything and I’m really proud of it, but I didn’t feel REPRESENTED.”

Interesting choice of words… is this a clue that he’s a closet gay/bisexual?

He wants to be Anthony Perkins so bad.

by Anonymousreply 1November 12, 2021 1:00 AM

Without the bumming, of course.

by Anonymousreply 2November 12, 2021 1:02 AM

Spiderman has always been shipped with deadpool, it's even a joke in the comics.

by Anonymousreply 3November 12, 2021 1:02 AM

What kind of guy do you think Andrew Garfield's type is?

by Anonymousreply 4November 12, 2021 2:34 AM

R4, me!

by Anonymousreply 5November 12, 2021 2:36 AM

Disney love bigot money.

by Anonymousreply 6November 12, 2021 3:12 AM

Fuuuuuuuck Pink News.

But yes it does sound like he’s saying he’s gay or bisexual with that “represented” remark. I don’t see any other way of interpreting it.

What’s the date on that Tao-le-road article and WHY doesn’t Andy Towle provide the date??

by Anonymousreply 11November 12, 2021 4:37 AM

R11, given that it references Garfield's appearance in the "Angels in America" revival on Broadway, I think that would place the article sometime in 2018.

by Anonymousreply 12November 12, 2021 4:51 AM

I say who cares. It’s not 2012 anymore. His career absolutely ranked. I don’t even feel like people remember his Spider Man movies.

by Anonymousreply 13November 12, 2021 4:54 AM

He is desperate to be interesting.

by Anonymousreply 14November 12, 2021 4:58 AM

I thought he was much cuter than Tobey Maguire (who looked way too old) and liked the first Amazing Spider-Man. It's incredible how fast his career went downhill. He's also most forgettable Spider-Man but didn't get the chance that Tobey or Tom got with the franchise. I'm sure he's pissed about that.

by Anonymousreply 15November 12, 2021 5:20 AM

After the two Spider-Man films, he starred in Mel Gibson's critically praised war film, "Hacksaw Ridge," and in Martin Scorsese's "Silence.," and oplayed Prior Walter in "Angels in America" on Broadway.

As of late 2021, he's starring this winter in "Tick, Tick... Boom!," and in a high-profile indie film, "The Eyes of Tammy Faye." He's also the star of a new miniseries filming right now, "Under the Banner of Heaven."

His career has not gone "fast downhill." You pulled that out of your ass.

by Anonymousreply 16November 12, 2021 5:56 AM

R16 And he socks in everything. Starting with the shitty American accent.

by Anonymousreply 17November 12, 2021 6:09 AM

I think that "feeling REPRESENTED" is kind of the new frau "closure".

It isn't something a healthy-minded person needs but every kook shrieks of its necessity! Sure it's great to see a wide range of characters, but if Spiderman's sexuality is that important to anyone, the character being gay, bi, or trans won't really save you.

I don't need to see my superheroes in bed. It's dumb.

by Anonymousreply 18November 12, 2021 6:32 AM

[quote] It's incredible how fast his career went downhill.

R15 You're joking, right?

He won a Tony a couple years ago. And was nominated for an Oscar & a GG a year before that.

by Anonymousreply 19November 12, 2021 6:57 AM

[quote] [R16] And he socks in everything.

His Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, and the Tony Award for Best Actor argue against that opinion.

Even so, if you hate him, you hate him.

But you cannot in honesty say his career is going "downhill fast." That's just not true.

by Anonymousreply 20November 12, 2021 7:05 AM

I wish he presents his intact dong once before he gets too old.

I imagine he was pressured to drop the bi discussion to avoid any possible diminishment of appeal for the films in the world's most lucrative Asian markets.

by Anonymousreply 23November 12, 2021 7:29 AM

I think Tom Holland is much better cast as Spider-Man than Garfield was. He's sweeter and more genuinely naive-seeming, while also quite sexy. (You do need a little guy with a babyface to play Spider-Man.)

Garfield is only now--at age 37--growing into his looks. he was annoying awkward and skinny in his 20s and early 30s, but he;s finally getting more muscular and filling out, and he's now (finally) attractive,

by Anonymousreply 24November 12, 2021 7:33 AM

Truly astonishing that that website still uses Andy “Tina” Towle’s name. That methed-out user is going to Laura Palmer himself or someone else any day now.

[quote] Truly astonishing that that website still uses Andy “Tina” Towle’s name. That methed-out user is going to Laura Palmer himself or someone else any day now.

Towleroad published a quote from Garfield, like any number of other media publications. It’s amazing that you don’t seem to understand that.

by Anonymousreply 26November 12, 2021 11:59 AM

His comments don't lead me to believe that he's gay. I also haven't heard chatter in the theatre profession about him.

by Anonymousreply 27November 12, 2021 12:10 PM

Would suck/rim him for days.

by Anonymousreply 28November 12, 2021 1:57 PM

[quote]I wish he presents his intact dong

Not highly likely, as he's a nice Jewish boy.

And oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 29November 12, 2021 2:33 PM

[quote] His comments don't lead me to believe that he's gay. I also haven't heard chatter in the theatre profession about him.

Everything I’ve heard about / from him leads to believe he’s bisexual at least, if not gay.

by Anonymousreply 30November 12, 2021 2:35 PM

Discuss: Andrew Garfield as Oliver in CMBYN.

by Anonymousreply 31November 12, 2021 2:39 PM

He made an obnoxious comment about being gay except for the sex. He even mentioned watching Drag Race every week.

by Anonymousreply 32November 12, 2021 2:44 PM

[quote]I think Tom Holland is much better cast as Spider-Man than Garfield was. He's sweeter and more genuinely naive-seeming

While I don't love the Andrew Garfield films, I thought he was good in the role and I appreciated getting a Spider-Man more like the comics version: mouthy, a little weird, a little cocky. Not that there's anything wrong with the other film versions.

by Anonymousreply 33November 12, 2021 2:46 PM

[quote]Everything I’ve heard about / from him leads to believe he’s bisexual at least, if not gay.

There have been a few people here over the years that have said they knew him or knew someone that did (that they trusted) who believed that he was (at least early on in his career) gay or bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 34November 12, 2021 3:12 PM

I really like v, he seems like quite a sweet guy but his bizarre Ginger Grant as Prior Walter performance was a shitshow for the ages! Straight people will buy anything, and the NY Times told them it was brilliant so he wa awarded the Tony.

I thought both he and Nathan Lane were awful.

by Anonymousreply 35November 13, 2021 1:09 AM

I meant I really like Andrew Garfield.

Historically, I have typos in 95% of my posts.

by Anonymousreply 36November 13, 2021 1:10 AM

I thought Garfield had a new pronoun or something.

by Anonymousreply 37November 13, 2021 1:11 AM

I always wish he didn't have a flat ass, because otherwise he looks like he would be fun to rim now that he's more filled out.

by Anonymousreply 38November 13, 2021 1:18 AM

You rim someone's hole, not their cheeks.

by Anonymousreply 39November 13, 2021 1:26 AM

[quote] Andrew Garfield said he was "pressured" to apologise for wanting Spider-Man to "explore" being bisexual, so that "bigots" would buy tickets.

Why would anyone want to shove their sexuality in someone else's face? Why do we have to know he's bisexual.

Frankly someone who's bisexual is just someone who doesn't discriminate - I don't mean that in a moral sense.

I think bis just like sex and don't care where it comes from. Or maybe they don't really like sex so it doesn't matter who their partner is. I honestly don't know their psychology. I just know how I feel about people who have to announce it. Publicly.

by Anonymousreply 48November 22, 2021 6:51 PM

Wasn’t there talk last year about Sony making Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man bisexual in the next movie with Tom Holland, Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield?

Is Andrew’s Spider-Man bisexual in this new Spider-Man movie/

by Anonymousreply 49December 16, 2021 8:07 AM

I think if he wants to he should just get with a guy. Why not satisfy that curiosity. Either way he seems basically a lock to get a nominated for his latest role in tick rick boom boom. So he is doing very very well career wise. He needs box office though.

by Anonymousreply 50December 16, 2021 8:26 AM

He’s sexy. I would in a flash.

by Anonymousreply 52December 16, 2021 8:35 AM

What curiosity? This dunce said he's living as a gay man (watching Drag Race on Sundays lol) without the sex. He couldn't be more obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 53December 16, 2021 11:31 AM

R5 No way, it is Jesse E. Not everyone is a BBC hungry slut like you.

by Anonymousreply 54December 16, 2021 12:05 PM

I place him in the same category as the two other Hollywood bisexuals Bradley Cooper and Jake Gyllenhaal as being too colossally ambitious, egocentric and genuinely neurotic to ever publicly come out or be seen to be in a relationship with a man.

by Anonymousreply 55December 16, 2021 12:16 PM

Blame the dizzy bitches who ran sony. They were overconfident in garfield after they decided the social network was the second coming of christ and anointed him the next spider m. Both films have faded from the collective consciousness.

[quote] Discuss: Andrew Garfield as Oliver in CMBYN.

Only if you want Oliver to be femmier than Elio.

by Anonymousreply 57December 16, 2021 12:31 PM

R54 Agree that Garfield doesn't give the BBC craze vibe. I know that Hollywood bromances are PR stunts and so was his with Jesse Eisenberg, but there was some genuine joy in this PR bromance (unlike Charmie which was over the top and somehow nervous), and he did strike me as nerd loving guy. So if he was into guys, he might be in some cute nerd. Or was it that Jesse was so irresistible.

by Anonymousreply 58December 16, 2021 12:32 PM

R57 I don't see him as fem. He is neither fem nor super masculine type.

by Anonymousreply 59December 16, 2021 12:35 PM

He's British.

by Anonymousreply 60December 16, 2021 12:36 PM

I think his ego is to great for him to be hiding a Filipino boyfriend in Crouch End.

by Anonymousreply 61December 16, 2021 12:37 PM

*too great

by Anonymousreply 62December 16, 2021 12:37 PM

I know I would take Jesse E. any day.

by Anonymousreply 63December 16, 2021 12:39 PM

Explain why you refer to black men as “BBC” and why race matters?

by Anonymousreply 64December 16, 2021 4:16 PM

R64 Never meant that black men are BBC, they are human beings like anybody else and it is just a part of their body, I meant you were the one who is after their BBC and projecting this on others.

by Anonymousreply 65December 16, 2021 5:14 PM

I didn't know so many Brits post here.

by Anonymousreply 66December 16, 2021 5:18 PM

R57, I would have no problem with it if they were to play it that way. Timmy and Andrew. Mmmm.

by Anonymousreply 67December 16, 2021 5:58 PM

R5 here. I'm not the person who posted at R64.

R65, I'm afraid I don't understand your comment either. Mine was simply a joke in response to R4's question and a reference to that comment Garfield made that, if Spider-Man was bisexual and he was playing him, he'd like Michael B. Jordan as a love interest. That was all. Not sure why you reacted to it the way you did with the "BBC hungry slut" stuff, which I think was the basis of R64's question.

by Anonymousreply 68December 16, 2021 7:00 PM

I don’t care what he said that some people got offended by, he was a damn good president in my time.

by Anonymousreply 69December 16, 2021 7:15 PM

R68 Then I apologize. But I didn't mean slut as an offense, though I am sure you are not one.

by Anonymousreply 70December 16, 2021 7:35 PM

I admitt I am guilty.

by Anonymousreply 71December 16, 2021 7:38 PM

No worries, R70. Apology accepted, though the more I think about it, maybe being a BBC hungry slut would be kinda fun!

by Anonymousreply 72December 16, 2021 7:54 PM

How did the woke universe give Andrew Garfield a collective 100% pass for being a straight actor playing the lead Prior Walter in "Angels in America" on Broadway only a few years ago? I thought that gay roles belonged ONLY to gay actors?

Did people just assume he was gay, or did his weird Ginger Grant-like performance just scramble everyone's brain?

by Anonymousreply 73December 16, 2021 10:43 PM

Who the fuck is Ginger Grant?

by Anonymousreply 74December 16, 2021 10:45 PM

From Gilligan’s Island!

by Anonymousreply 75December 16, 2021 10:45 PM

Lee Pace was in the same production and he came out. That probably took some attention away from Garfield. Anyway, that production was sort of a bust. It made waves more in the UK than the USA.

by Anonymousreply 76December 16, 2021 10:46 PM

R72 You are such a nice and cool guy. I would marry you, but I don’t have a BBC.

by Anonymousreply 77December 17, 2021 8:33 AM

r76 Thats actually a good point, I had forgotten about that. Def took the heat off Garfield.

by Anonymousreply 78December 17, 2021 8:44 AM

We didn’t see it in the US, r76, except for a taped performance broadcast in movie theaters. The actors seemed so far away, and they were hard to hear, I liked the original production and the HBO version much more. Too bad, as I really like AG.

by Anonymousreply 79December 17, 2021 9:12 AM

Does he care to comment that he was pressured into a 'romance' with Emma Stone?

by Anonymousreply 80December 17, 2021 9:17 AM

I have never seen one of his movies or found him attractive for even a single second.
