Monster's Ball actor Coronji Calhoun Sr dies of congestive heart failure aged 30

I still remember watching the film and wondering what it must have been like for him to act out the scene where Berry hits him and calls him a fat little pig. He was only ten at the time. RIP.

Was it a porno? Were his balls really that huge?

by Anonymousreply 1November 11, 2021 7:28 PM

Me too OP. Almost too painful to watch that scene.

I've never seen this movie. Can someone give ?e a plot rundown? Is it worth watching?

by Anonymousreply 3November 11, 2021 7:33 PM

He should have listened to her.

It's about the relationship between a corrections officer and the widow of a man he executes, R3. It's one of the most unrelentingly miserable films I've ever seen, but the critics liked it.

I’ll never forget the scene in the movie where Halle Berry is talking about her son dying and starts laughing about how fat he was. She was truly mother of the year in that film.

by Anonymousreply 6November 11, 2021 8:01 PM

Halle is a "raging cunt" in life so what's the real difference in her acting.

Not a nice person at all.

by Anonymousreply 7November 11, 2021 8:15 PM

In side news, MONSTERS BALL is decades old. !!??

by Anonymousreply 8November 11, 2021 8:17 PM

"Make me feel better"

by Anonymousreply 9November 11, 2021 8:17 PM

Sad. He was young!

by Anonymousreply 10November 11, 2021 8:31 PM

Yeah and nobody ever wanted to see Halle Berry and Billy Bob getting it on (except maybe Billy Bob). Yes, it is every bit as gross as it sounds, and then some.

by Anonymousreply 11November 12, 2021 12:49 PM

It was nice of Berry and Daniels to donate money to the Gofundme, but with their wealth, couldn’t they have just paid for the whole thing?

by Anonymousreply 12November 12, 2021 12:57 PM

Never mind, turns out that once Berry and Daniels found out about the gofundme, they split the remaining amount and paid for it all.

From OPs linked article:

"And he was not an actor. [Director Marc Forster] just plucked him out of obscurity in Louisiana, so he really didn't understand the process, or so I thought. "I talked a lot with him and his mother and I explained and explained, so before every take I would hug him and kiss him, and after every take I'd hug him and kiss him." She added that she had "really made it a point to stay in touch with him and really stay in his life, and I hope we stay that way".

Halle doesn’t sound particularly cunty here, and handled those brutal scenes with this (then) young boy the way I would’ve hoped.

Also, wasn’t a plot point Heath Ledger’s character taking his life? Like another said, this movie was relentlessly grim, and I’m not sure the sex scene made anyone “feel good”.

I watched this film when I was younger. Seeing a naked Halle Berry actually gave me a boner.🍆

Then I saw Billy Bob's nasty old saggy ass and it totally went down. 😞

by Anonymousreply 15November 12, 2021 1:14 PM

I blame Halle.

by Anonymousreply 16November 12, 2021 1:22 PM

The Academy loves to reward relentlessly unpleasant films that are about as nuanced as a sledge hammer.

Love, Precious

by Anonymousreply 17November 12, 2021 2:34 PM

So it sounds like Halle killed him? Do I have that right?

by Anonymousreply 18November 12, 2021 2:45 PM

[quote] I still remember watching the film and wondering what it must have been like for him to act out the scene where Berry hits him and calls him a fat little pig.

I don't see the problem.

They say that Angela Bassett turned down the part…thought that it was too demeaning or something like that…
