Noises Off (1992)

What an underrated comedy movie! This movie is so much fun, but forgotten about!

Michael Caine leads a talented cast of character actors; Carol Burnett, John Ritter, Christopher Reeve, Julie Hagerty, Marilu Henner, Nicolette Sheridan, Mark Linn-Baker, and Mr. Denholm Elliot.

One of the best Peter Bogdanovich films!

Once of my favorites. It's one of the few movies I actually guffawed at when I first saw it in the theater. Perfectly cast.

Love that movie. Will have to revisit. Thanks for the heads up OP.

It's a fine movie but I always think it somehow should be better than it is. I guess no movie version could be as good as seeing it live.

Exactly, r3. The physical slapstick was impressive on stage. Not so much on film with editing and multiple takes.

Give the film another shot - there are relatively long shots that absolutely highlight the timing and the performances are choice!

Movie failed to crack the top 10 opening weekend. It's a masterpiece. I saw it in theaters and laughed my ass off. The long takes are extraordinary.

The movie is frantically paced because the script was 240 pages long, so if it feels like a lot is happening to a lot of characters, its because no movie in history with a normal running time has packed so much content into so few minutes.

One of my favorite comedies. I never get tired of watching it. So many great moments, but oddly, the line that sticks in my head after all these years is Carol Burnett's "nice plate of SAWdines." I've been known to use that line occasionally.

I laughed out loud.

Major flop.

I saw the play with the original cast in NYC and years later sat through a community theatre production that was well-directed and cast (a big surprise, community theatre can be so hit or miss).

I heard terrible things about the movie, so have always stayed away... it's really funny, we-acted and directed?

I've seen the play more times than I can count and laugh till I near hemorrhage. I dont think I laughed more than twice at the movie. There is just something missing without the live performance. BTW, Andrea Martin was the worst Dottie I have seen. Played to the audience the whole time and took me right out of the play.

Yes, one of my favorites. Especially Carol Burnett in the act toward the end when her character is completely fed up with the whole thing. I've never forgotten that murderous look she gives to somebody in the wings when the phone keeps ringing after she picks it up.

Went with my bff. We were the only 2 there. So i remember the movie. A lot of door slamming.

Wasn’t Patricia Routledge in the original London production? They should have hired her for the movie version.

R15 sorry... she’s a cunt. Peeps didn’t like her.

I love Christopher Reeve in this movie.......John Ritter for me is surprisingly the weak link.....he reads his lines straight through with no change of thought or inflection even though he is supposed to jump from thought to thought......anyway.....you never see him change directions - he just keeps talking.

I finally saw it in community theater because they'd cast a wonderful local actor as the old man. I was surprised how funny it was.

It's good, R10. Great cast doing good to great work, even though I think there's something ineffable missing.

My own personal SAWdines moment is Marilu Henner looking high on adrenaline as she makes a late entrance and bellows her line.

And I'm always impressed that strapping Christopher Reeve looks so small when the director browbeats him.

I acted in this play while in college. I was the director, Lloyd. I seem to recall an older woman walking around on stage asking herself "Now, where did I out that chicken? (she's holding it) and a character named Selzdon? Molly?
