‘You can't dance at two weddings at the same time’

by Anonymousreply 7November 9, 2021 3:27 PM

It’s nice to see an original looking wedding dress. Princess cupcake downs are rarely actually stylish.

by Anonymousreply 8November 9, 2021 3:28 PM

The point of most weddings is not to be stylish; it's to be traditional.

by Anonymousreply 9November 9, 2021 3:36 PM

[quote]“Normally, I pick where we go out to eat, but this time Toby insisted he pick. This didn’t raise any red flags, but when I got to the restaurant, I thought to myself ‘Oh he really planned this. We had a table overlooking the entire island away from the rest of the restaurant. The waitress came, and we ordered our food. As the sun was getting ready to set, we went outside to take photos of it. Toby set his iPhone timer and got down on one knee. The timer went off at the perfect moment as we have the most incredible photo.”

by Anonymousreply 10November 9, 2021 3:38 PM

The point of a wedding is to get married. Traditions evolved to support the commercial interests of the bridal industry.

by Anonymousreply 11November 9, 2021 3:46 PM

[quote] The point of a wedding is to get married.

Which is for most people to be traditional. Otherwise people would not have the festivities: they'd just do it at the county registrar's.

Gettys are so weird, all of them

by Anonymousreply 14November 9, 2021 4:05 PM

I like the dress. Its unique. They look like a fun and stylish young couple. Good for them. I give them 5 years max. 3 if we start eating the rich.

She didn’t get married in church as a virgin in white. Not many people do. Anyone who doesn’t isn’t traditional.

The headpiece (bridal) was horrible. Looked cheap, like tissue paper tucked into something at a diner table (Splenda holder, etc.).

Here's a closeup of the headpiece.

by Anonymousreply 21November 9, 2021 5:13 PM

Maison Margiela is unadulterated trash. I have zero problem with a non-traditional wedding — it is, in fact, my preference — but there are so many better houses to go with.

by Anonymousreply 22November 9, 2021 5:22 PM

OMG, I actually took the time to look through the pictures, it looks more like set pictures to the prequel of "Rosemary's Baby"... "Rosemary's Wedding". That is the creepiest wedding

by Anonymousreply 23November 9, 2021 5:33 PM

This is a case study in self-involved tacky wealth and excess. The guests as well as the wedding party look like the shallowest and most attention needy horrors. The bride is lucky she is rich because she is not a beauty.

by Anonymousreply 24November 9, 2021 5:33 PM

Hahahaha! Every guy at the wedding was Gay... Including the groom

by Anonymousreply 25November 9, 2021 5:36 PM

I know her uncle, Peter, whom I went to college with.

It's a very messed up family, of course, if you saw either the recent film about them with Christopher Plummer, or the miniseries. Iva exalts her grandmother Ann as if she were some sort of impeccable society doyenne, but of course Ann was just a stewardess when she met Gordon Getty, one of J. Paul Getty's sons; and Gordon, while fucked-up in his own way, is the relatively sanest of all the sons (the others are stranger and more messed up than the Roy children on "Succession," whom they greatly resemble).

by Anonymousreply 26November 9, 2021 5:40 PM

How could the groom be gay with a beauty like this bride to make love with.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 27November 9, 2021 5:40 PM

I like her nose. But then, I like prominent bony noses on men and women- gives such character than the generic nose jobs that everyone gets.

by Anonymousreply 28November 9, 2021 5:49 PM

Yeah, sick of everybody getting nose jobs.

by Anonymousreply 29November 9, 2021 5:56 PM

@r27, For a Getty she's actually a looker and she weighs all of a 100lbs... Behind her back the family calls her, "the fat one"

by Anonymousreply 30November 9, 2021 5:57 PM

Hmm, interesting; the bride looks like one of Mick Jagger's daughters while the groom...looks like her younger brother. And he does have gay face for days.

Having gang from NY Social Diary as the guests was a nice touch, but it all looks more like a media event for all involved (including Nancy in a lovely Star Wars ensemble) than an actual wedding.

by Anonymousreply 31November 9, 2021 6:05 PM

Choice of husband doesn't make much sense.

Why must Getty women look anorexic?

by Anonymousreply 32November 9, 2021 6:24 PM

Over the top vulgar. I love it!

by Anonymousreply 33November 9, 2021 6:27 PM

actually I don't think she looks anorexic, Ana Joy Taylor, on the other hand. In one of the pictures towards the end of the article, there's a side shot of her in which she literally looks like a skeleton with bad extensions

by Anonymousreply 34November 9, 2021 6:28 PM

In all photos, husband has his head and body turned towards the bride. He does seem really into her even if posters are saying he has gay face. Good acting? I don't know.

The wedding party looks about 90% or 95% white.

This picnic (with all the red cloth) looks really forced and un-fun. Looks like Sandra from Semi-Homemade helped with the table scapes.

Vanessa is a plastic surgery marvel. It looks like she’s wearing a mask.

Young. Rich. Revolting. Fame Whores.

I give it three years tops.

by Anonymousreply 60November 9, 2021 9:30 PM

R59, I actually gasped (Mary!) when I encountered her photo. She could be the lead in House of Wax.

by Anonymousreply 61November 9, 2021 9:58 PM

The groom has beautiful hair and skin. Is he straight?

by Anonymousreply 62November 9, 2021 10:02 PM

I wouldn’t know R62. He’s a pretty accessory for my photo OP’s.

by Anonymousreply 63November 9, 2021 10:11 PM

R54 she is also the heaviest so she checks two diversity boxes for the bride: (1) woman of color and (2) plus size/fatty.

by Anonymousreply 64November 9, 2021 10:29 PM

R52 that pic is like a less attractive Courtney Love

by Anonymousreply 65November 9, 2021 10:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 68November 9, 2021 11:24 PM

Vanessa Getty looks like a waxwork.

The majority of the guests appear to be somewhere on the Dita Von Teese spectrum.

That said I actually liked the dress and the groom is very cute.

Looks like he's pretty limber too, if the pic of him photographing his bride is anything to go by.

by Anonymousreply 69November 9, 2021 11:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 73November 9, 2021 11:46 PM

Oh there’s definitely been some tweaking going on, R72.

by Anonymousreply 74November 9, 2021 11:47 PM

Such a sweet intimate exchange of sacred, solemn vows. A gown of broken mirror shards….where to even begin. It’s like something out of a bizarre fairytale. She doesn’t seem that into her groom in the pictures, this is clearly her show and she’s the star. I’m sure he doesn’t mind, he’s set for life now, no matter how long it lasts. Lucky boy. Ka-ching!

by Anonymousreply 79November 10, 2021 1:50 AM

That wedding gown and the chrome Lee Press-On claws are going to look ridiculous in 20 years, maybe sooner. The engagement ring looks cheap. It's supposed to be a sapphire, but it looks very black, although I admit I know nothing of gemstones.

by Anonymousreply 80November 10, 2021 2:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 84November 10, 2021 2:41 AM

the pictures in the daily mail piece reek of 'queer, but dating the opposite sex'. Who is Vanessa to the bride?

by Anonymousreply 85November 10, 2021 2:49 AM

I love her dress and headpiece and thought she looked quite striking. Genuinely unique and memorable, a refreshing change from the usual nauseatingly frilly lace numbers. Too many brides look like Harvey Weinsteins ex- wife dressed them, this was different.

by Anonymousreply 86November 10, 2021 2:50 AM

Great photographs, I enjoyed looking through the slideshow which is lengthy. The carpets placed in city hall is a nice touch. Nancy Pelosi who is a bad ass bitch and kept her foot dead up the former guy's obese ass, its an honor to have Sister Nance officiate. The wedding is expensive and luxurious but something is off about the scene. Too much bad surgery on the guests who are waxen in appearance with Zoolander duck lips. Dead grass in the pics of the picnic overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, distracting. The theme is not cohesive outside of WE HAVE LOTS OF FUCKING MONEY, HATERS.

by Anonymousreply 87November 10, 2021 2:51 AM

I have to say I also really liked how the ceremony part looked - great location and done nice. Also the pictures of her in the Getty Mansion (I presume) were also lovely. August Getty needs to lay of the filler and lip pumping.......

by Anonymousreply 88November 10, 2021 2:53 AM

the wedding gown is unflattering. The bride has a box like figure in the gown, I don't understand it. Her bridesmaid gowns are also unflattering aside from the slate blue color.

by Anonymousreply 89November 10, 2021 2:57 AM

Can you imagine some white trash idiot in bumfuck with barely a pot to piss in, votes Republican so this lazy bitch gets a tax cut?

by Anonymousreply 90November 10, 2021 3:02 AM

Well, actually, they vote Republican not so this lazy bitch gets a tax cut but for when they win Lotto and need it themselves.

by Anonymousreply 91November 10, 2021 3:20 AM

R87, the issue is, there is no sane adult in charge with taste to control the entire thing. No competent parent or grandmother. Just idiot kids and yes-men wedding planners. So it's sprawling, decadent, coked up chaos.

by Anonymousreply 92November 10, 2021 3:22 AM

Yes to R92 - there is no adult presence. No one mature enough to tell Little Miss and her anorexic groom to back that shit up.

By the way, somebody make these people some sandwiches.

I've eaten fatter celery sticks.

by Anonymousreply 93November 10, 2021 3:28 AM

by Anonymousreply 95November 10, 2021 3:38 AM

by Anonymousreply 96November 10, 2021 3:40 AM

[quote] the wedding gown is unflattering. The bride has a box like figure in the gown, I don't understand it. Her bridesmaid gowns are also unflattering aside from the slate blue color.

I agree. I think it's an attempt at 1920s flapper style with the dropped waist, etc. The shards just added so much bulk. She must be super skinny to still look somewhat thin in that dress. The bridesmaids' dresses remind me of the Calvin Klein slip dresses from the '90s. Boring.

by Anonymousreply 104November 10, 2021 4:05 AM

[quote] It's supposed to be a sapphire, but it looks very black, although I admit I know nothing of gemstones.

Sapphires can be almost any color except red.

If the mineral corundum (a translucent stone that is the hardest naturally occurring mineral except diamond) is red, then it's a ruby. But corundum of any other color--yellow, brown, orange, green, pink, purple, clear, black, blue--is a sapphire.

Blue is of course the most famous color (and one of the most highly prized) for sapphires, and that ring is probably a deep midnight blue that photographs as black.

by Anonymousreply 105November 10, 2021 4:20 AM

Interesting R105! Is an emerald less hard than a ruby/sapphire?

by Anonymousreply 106November 10, 2021 4:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 108November 10, 2021 4:53 AM

r108 well in that sense she IS following wedding tradition then by purposefully making the bridesmaids look ugly as to not upstage the bride.

by Anonymousreply 109November 10, 2021 4:58 AM

Every male under 50 that I observed, pinged like a mutha, including the groom.

I loved her dress, hated her train and headpiece, loved the flowers, and was overwhelmed by the amount of money that must have been burned on such an in-your-fucking-face extravaganza. Did any of the guests or wedding party feel even a tinge of awkwardness or guilt as they sat comfortably in their limos passing by droves of SF homeless on the way to these over-the-top parties?

by Anonymousreply 110November 10, 2021 5:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 117November 10, 2021 2:58 PM

I agree that most of this seemed like it was staged for maximum social media exposure.

OTT weddings are a recipe for divorce in a few years' time. What day-to-day life, even if you are quite rich, can compare to this much luxury and attention?

by Anonymousreply 118November 10, 2021 3:27 PM

Let's face it, the odds are VERY good that both of them will be full-blown junkies before too much longer.

by Anonymousreply 119November 10, 2021 3:36 PM

R112 it might be unusual not to have heard of them because of the ridiculous media exposure they receive, but it’s not valuable information to know who the Gettys are. Wealthy people shouldn’t be required learning, its total trash tabloid fluff. If anyone knows too much about those types, or royals or whatever and wears that knowledge as a badge of honour, I take it as a real tell about their worldview.

I don't think any of Gettys married money. Must've been an ironclad prenup for the MOB waitress.

Her face has character (I also like a prominent nose). Her hair color is beautiful.

The Getty family is San Francisco royalty and they've donated a lot to California. I don't know much about them but I know they're a prominent philanthropic family in the area. If I'm wrong, correct me. I don't get the outrage for Nancy officiating.

by Anonymousreply 134November 10, 2021 8:10 PM

R134 One of the Gettys married a Miller sister - Pia? Their dad was a multibillionaire and bought the "Prince" of Greece for one of his other daughters (the Millers support the Greek royal family, who are penniless without the Millers).

by Anonymousreply 135November 10, 2021 8:13 PM

…and another “Prince” - Alexandre von Furstenburg - for his other daughter.

by Anonymousreply 136November 10, 2021 8:28 PM

R135 Oh that’s right, Pia was a Getty for a period of time but has been divorced for years. I guess it must have been a friendly divorce as the feckless Marie-Chantal and Pavlos were there with their insipid daughter. They still insist on being the Crown Prince and Princess of Greece despite the monarchy being abolished decades ago.

by Anonymousreply 140November 11, 2021 3:37 AM

Did Galiano get drunk and spew more anti-Semitic remarks like his oft quoted “I love Hitler... People like you would be dead today. Your mothers, your forefathers would all be f***ing gassed and f***ing dead”? Is all forgiven if the bride gets press and looks pretty?

by Anonymousreply 141November 11, 2021 3:46 AM

R120, Did you even read my post at r12?

There's nothing "tabloid" or "trash" about the museum, the photo source, the oil company,...

That you regard knowledge of anything must be "useful" says a lot about YOUR world-view. Do you know only of farming methods and iron-ore smelting?

Whether Robber Barons or Magna Carta Barons (you are obviously a citizen of the UK/Commonwealth who detests the royals, of whom I said nothing, you little extrapolator, you), "the wealthy" are, indeed, often intimately involved in what normally is called "history." In the US, it's usually our industrial history.

I said nothing about the wedding of this weird child Iva. I referred only to one's not even having heard of the surname.

That ignorance is just sad.

by Anonymousreply 142November 11, 2021 6:12 AM

R141, more likely because she is a Getty.

by Anonymousreply 143November 11, 2021 6:38 AM

by Anonymousreply 144November 12, 2021 1:38 AM

Why is it strange Pelosi officiated? Would the pussy grabber be a better choice? Pelosi is high ranking rep from San Francisco.

by Anonymousreply 145November 12, 2021 1:40 AM

God, how arrogant is Pelosi to hitch her wagon to the rich show..Like anyone is going to believe she cares for the little folk. Don't they think us little folk, read papers, have access to the internet. What a dumbass move on her part. And in a gold dress no less.. Yup Nancy the Leader of the People's Party.

by Anonymousreply 146November 12, 2021 1:42 AM

Continue to worship at the shrine of Trump, R146.

Truly, a figure of the masses.

by Anonymousreply 147November 12, 2021 1:45 AM

Gold dress. Not a gold toilet.

by Anonymousreply 148November 12, 2021 1:46 AM

The simple answer to every question or observation in this thread is MONEY.

by Anonymousreply 149November 12, 2021 2:04 AM

Pelosi has been a friend of the Gettys for decades, and she doesn't have to "hitch her wagon" to any rich show because she's worth a couple hundred million dollars herself. She lives in SF, and represents SF, so there's no reason she shouldn't have been at her friend's wedding.

I'm glad that Ivy had the wedding of her dreams. I don't know what the beef is with her mother, but her dad being a druggie must have been really hard on Ivy. His death was such a sad waste.

Simply amazing. Eat shit Paris Hilton Reum. Your carnival has been outdone.

by Anonymousreply 155November 12, 2021 7:44 PM

Pee Hilton's wedding was more conventional save for the guests who are strictly d list reality clown show alumni. No comparison.

by Anonymousreply 156November 12, 2021 7:48 PM

I wonder if the broken mirror fragments were borrowed from her grandmother's "vaults" as well

by Anonymousreply 157November 12, 2021 7:58 PM

Oh dear, the bride appears to have a lazy eye. How perfectly dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 158November 12, 2021 8:02 PM

The groom looks like a little boy. I’d like to see him naked though. (As long as he’s 18)

by Anonymousreply 159November 12, 2021 8:07 PM

Key Takeaway: Really rich old money types can do tacky with the best of them.

by Anonymousreply 160November 12, 2021 8:10 PM

I love that the Town and Country article ends with this quote from the bride:

"I felt her presence with me the whole night," Ivy says. "I know she was looking down on Toby and me."

by Anonymousreply 161November 12, 2021 8:12 PM

I dunno if the Getty wedding is tacky. Wacky? They wanted to do something different. Incoherently themed.

by Anonymousreply 162November 12, 2021 8:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 167November 12, 2021 9:07 PM

[quote]His death was such a sad waste.

by Anonymousreply 168November 12, 2021 10:40 PM

R168 At least he didn't die on the bathroom floor from his colon exploding due to opioid + meth abuse like Andrew Getty. That was the worst Getty death.

by Anonymousreply 169November 12, 2021 11:13 PM

Here is Ivy's dad. He was probably the most handsome Getty when he was young.

Balthazar Getty is the next best-looking Getty. I saw Balthazar's dad (John Paul Getty III) in my university's bookshop. His was enrolled for a time after the ear-slicing kidnapping. After he left college, he later overdosed and ended up blind and in a wheelchair. He died in 2011 at age 54. What an awful life. I'm sure that Balthazar had a lot of stress and heartache like Ivy.

I have new respect for JFK Jr’s extremely private and personal wedding.

And while I can appreciate an artful approach, I prefer Paris Hilton’s more traditionally beautiful confection of a gown.

The groom looks a little like a young Jason Gould.

Gordon who had a secret second family? Four sons with wife Ann, three daughters with a longtime mistress. He's a mess, too.

Ann is dead and once Gordon goes, any of the culture associated with this family will go with him. All that will remain are a bunch of trashy, drug-addicted, do-nothing rich people.

by Anonymousreply 178November 13, 2021 2:49 AM

How'd she swipe Diana Ross & The Supremes' ill-fated 2000 "Return To Love" mirrored gowns?

by Anonymousreply 179November 13, 2021 3:00 AM

What a weird and conflicting message from San Francisco, my former favorite city. Gone to pot between extreme, undeserved wealth and the death and disease kept away by private security ensembles. At least they don't demand special privileges from cops! Yeah, right.

What will Chessa Boudin do to earn enough money so he can continue bleating his allegedly "progressive" BS? Who's going to give his poor lost boy ass enough funds so he can continue auto-fellating on public funds?

Gavin Newsom knows who his masters are, the billionaire elites. He serves them (and only them) quite faithfully.

by Anonymousreply 185November 13, 2021 3:21 PM

R185 Newsom has been Gordon Getty's boy since he was in college. It was Gordon who funded his early career.

Poor Ivy, even post plastic surgery, her dad's face comes through. Yikes!

R184 is right on the money. The current crop of Gettys are losers, especially "Nat" a "clothing designer" who thinks she is interesting because she had a mastectomy. She is particularly pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 186November 13, 2021 4:46 PM

Who is this "Nat"?

by Anonymousreply 187November 13, 2021 6:50 PM

"Nat" is a Getty offspring, a wealthy fame whore who underwent a non-medically necessary mastectomy. I understand she is married to a man who underwent a breast augmentation, and who wears pancake makeup and dresses.

They are a 21st century version of Jack Sprat, who could eat no fat and his wife who could eat no thin.

[quote]Why is it strange Pelosi officiated? Would the pussy grabber be a better choice? Pelosi is high ranking rep from San Francisco.

Wouldn't the more appropriate official be the SF mayor, and longtime family friend Pelosi could attend still and largely avoid the spotlight like the governor. I wonder if, as sentimental as Ivy comes off, she asked Newsom on to officiate because he and her father were friends since childhood. (Newsom's late father was the family lawyer who communicated/negotiated with the kidnappers and, if IIRC, also delivered the ransom). If so, Newsom was wise to turn it down. Remember the French Laundry photo?

by Anonymousreply 197November 14, 2021 7:17 AM

I haven't heard about this one. He had an affair with his campaign manager's wife when he was running for reelection as SF mayor. She gave an interview recently and it was clear she's in a 12 step program without explicitly saying. Nothing me too about. She took responsibility and was clearly remorseful.

So who's the 18 year old?

by Anonymousreply 212November 17, 2021 12:06 PM

The Getty wealth has been distributed over multiple generations and each Getty has less and less with each generation.

Their time is over, as they are "poor" compared to the tech guys that now run SF. Unlike Gordon, they have no interest in classical music and baroque paintings.

by Anonymousreply 213November 17, 2021 12:20 PM

I can't wait for Gordon to die to see how his money is divided between his legitimate sons and bastard daughters.

by Anonymousreply 215November 17, 2021 12:50 PM

The "bastard" daughters all now have the surname of Getty - they went to court for that. Things are different now, as opposed to the medieval ages. The Getty fortune will continue to diminish, as Gordon's measly 3 billion will be divided amongst 7.

by Anonymousreply 216November 17, 2021 12:57 PM

[quote]as Gordon's measly 3 billion will be divided amongst 7

by Anonymousreply 217November 17, 2021 1:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 218November 17, 2021 2:22 PM

If their billions are dwindling down, why don't these trust fund assholes try to acquire some actual skills, then open their own companies? They should invest their trust funds to make more money.

Most of these trust funders, who don't work, always seem so dim, they likely don't hire the correct money people to help them invest properly. They are too busy traveling, drinking and taking drugs.

IIRC, Nat, the one who claimed be a lesbian, then got her tits cut off, is supposedly a 'fashion designer'.

by Anonymousreply 219November 17, 2021 3:29 PM

Can anyone explain why the super rich are so often drug addicts? Boredom? No purpose in life or real interests?

Much easier to understand those with PTSD and a super challenging, difficult life needing a total mental break from hardship.

by Anonymousreply 220November 17, 2021 4:51 PM

No purpose in life and their parents literally want nothing to do with most of them. Even if they have amazing parents, it's way easier to leave shit to nannies, drivers, night nurses, teachers and then send them away to some grim boarding school. That shit is traumatic. It's amazing how junkies all end up the same, money or not. They all even look the same.

by Anonymousreply 221November 17, 2021 8:11 PM

The Happy Valley set, not. People like Ivy and the gay man she married just aren't interesting at all. I prefer reading about the shenanigans of British upper class of yore, especially when living in one of the (now former) colonies.

by Anonymousreply 222November 17, 2021 8:35 PM

I looked up grandpa Gordon's Wikipedia page and it's the least descriptive and shortest of any wealthy or notable person on the site One paragraph each for Early Life and Personal Life. Even the career section was very abbreviated.
