Starship Troopers was released 24 years ago today! (11/7/97)

The film and Denise are entertaining for what they are but the movie is a very poor treatment of Heinlein's original story. In the book Juan Rico is not an Aryan. They traded the intelligence of the novel for teens with perfect shiny teeth and jiggly boobs.

I always think of this movie every time I see Fox or CNN or any website saying "would you like to know more" or similar. It was ahead of its time!

"Starship Troopers" is a great film. The themes the film explored are still relevant today. The special effects hold up really well.

No, it's not faithful to the book. Heinlein's novel is mostly a love letter to fascism, and Paul Verhoeven made the film a straight parody of fascism, so it's kind of meta in that regard.

I saw it for the first time a few months ago. I enjoyed it. It's a great movie about war and how it grinds people down. I laughed when NPH walked into the room dressed like a member of the SS, leather trench coat and all.

That's Stacy Abrams looking woman saying "To defeat the bug, we must understand the bug" it's the funniest scene in the movie.

Hate that glorifying war propaganda. Paul Verhoeven rushed into production of this in order to make people forget about the disaster that was Showgirls.

It's a genuine unlikely subversive masterpiece. Verhoeven is a genius. And Casper was an aryan wetdream.

I'm never sure if it's a good movie or a bad movie, but if I'm channel surfing and it's on, I'll watch it every time. I come for the skewering of fascism and stay for the homoeroticism.

It unleased the very handsome and sexy Casper Van Dien on the world. I saw the movie and boy, was he good looking!! His big movie fame didn't last long but he was a sight to behold!

I found Denise really hot in this movie as well (and I’m a gay male). I think she’s the only actress I’ve ever found sexually attractive, especially in Wild Things. She and Casper made a hot couple, but they had no chemistry - probably in part because they’re both bad actors.

I think most people who think it's a fascist story are like Verhoeven and never actually bothered to read the book.
