Datalounge, do you think Americans are ignoring the rapidly growing, real threat by China and it's rapid military advancement?

With all our problems, I think the U.S. us still generally seen as a force for good, and most of our allies and friends rely on the U.S. being a balance against China and Russia. But are younger people interested or concerned at all in this? We seem to absorbed in our idiotic pop culture issue, the pettiness of being all-consumed by sex and sexuality and political squabbles. Americans have always been somewhat self-centered, but we were also always aware, and united on the threat of the Soviet Union. But what about China? Are we just doomed to be a second-rate society, so early in our evolution? We're still an nation in its infancy, but have we become so obsessed with ourselves that we're no longer worried about existential threats, and no longer capable of meeting them? I'm a little worried about us.

It's, OP?

Oh dear grammar troll.

by Anonymousreply 3November 7, 2021 5:08 PM

Should really worry about the US economy tanking instead. Having a bloated military won't save a country from internal collapse.

by Anonymousreply 4November 7, 2021 5:14 PM

What’s going on with the real estate market over there? Don’t they have probable Ms of their own to worry about instead of being such a destructive force and a terrible neighbor.

by Anonymousreply 5November 7, 2021 5:22 PM

No OP, I think that they are trying to deliberately overrepresent it, so as to have an excuse to revive the Cold War and re-initiate a dangerous arms race that could destroy us all. The difference is that China is the largest manufacturing economy in the world and the MAIN trading partner for the US, Australia, New Zealand and the EU. the USSR and its alies were somewhat isolated from the rest of the world (which was controlled by the US/UK entente), but China is right at the centre of the world's economy. They cannot be isolated without causing VERY severe problems for everybody else - especially those trying to criple the Chinese economy with sanctions, that will only end up devastating their own.

This is a matter of the military industrial complex demanding an excuse to create a forever war scenario, and Wall Street and the likes of Bezos, Gates and Soros being outraged because they haven't been allowed to sequester the Chinese economy and profit from bleeding it dry, as they have done with every financial market they have been allowed to invade. Also, American political elites are realizing that military might cannot compete with economic importance, and since the US is a collapsing empire, they are attempting to sink everyone else in order to try and see whether they can propel themselves up one last time (and I mean the elites, because they evidently couldn't care any less what happens to the American people).

And before anyone calls me Ling Ling or Boris or tankie, do think about why politicians seem to be more worried about doing everything in their power to slow China's progress, than actually doing their job and working FOR YOU. Which is something that, by the way, neither Rachel Maddow nor Anderson Cooper or Sean Hannity will ever tell you.

R6 is clearly posting from, and on behalf of the People's Republic of China. Your "U.S. is a collapsing empire" without even a hint of critique for the ongoing Chinese military provocation sort of gave it away, R6.

I hope the ones who want a war with China enlist ASAP so you don't miss the action!

by Anonymousreply 9November 7, 2021 6:14 PM

it's obscene

by Anonymousreply 10November 7, 2021 6:15 PM

The Australians are also getting it, and thankfully they are worried about the needless escalation in which the US is dragging both Australia and the UK.

I totally don’t care

by Anonymousreply 13November 7, 2021 7:41 PM

So do you, OP @R8 / R12. You have not been able to counter any of my arguments, but rather accused me of being a Chinese government bot. Regarding your rather feeble mention of China trying to provoke the AUKUS alliance, read the article below - even the MSM admits that they are deliberately attempting to poke the Chinese dragon by invading China's territorial waters. Also, they have created a military aliance against the Chinese with AUKUS and Trump initiated sanctions against China, which Biden hasn't lifted at all! Could there be any greater provocations than those?

You are obviously an idiot, or someone who is being paid to try to stoke the fires of anti-Chinese prejudice and get as many people as possible to support a potential war (just as the two Bush presidents did with the Middle East). Well, this won't work so easily now that we the people people, have gotten to know what our governments have done in our name. Moreover, if you want war so much, you should join the military and put your courage where your incendiary xenophobic rhetoric is, as R9 has very aptly put it.
