What happened to Jennifer Jason Leigh's movie career comeback?
After wowing everyone with her performance in The Hateful Eight, even earning an Oscar nomination, I expected her to be in high demand. She's done some television stuff since then, was in that horrible Stephen King Lisey's Story show. But I'm not seeing her pop up in any big-screen stuff. Is she known not to be that into acting or was Hollywood just not that interested?
She deserved an Oscar for her role in Dolores Claiborne.

She is a character actress in her 50s. Enough said.

Her plastic surgery was atrocious. I have to double check the credits to see if it is indeed her in the movie I just watched her in.

Twin Peaks The Return was awful. Had nothing to do with what made Twin Peaks magical.

She's in that Atypical show. I've only seen a couple of episodes of it so far, but she does come across like she's doped up on something, in a Paula Abdul kind of way.

She was an Annihilation, which a lot of people liked very much, and The Woman in the Window, which no one did.
Leigh probably got more press for a movie she didn't star in than any of the recent ones she did; that was Marriage Story, since she was the inspiration for Scarlett Johansson's character.

Delores Claiborne was a really underrated movie.

It's been ages since I saw it, I'll have to watch it again. Who did Jennifer play in that one again? Kathy Bates' daughter wasn't it?

She can be really good and sometimes really bad. Like when she tried to play Dorothy Parker.

R10 here Dolores Claiborne. Sorry for the type-o. Yes, she played Bates’ daughter. I have to rewatch it but remember how much I liked it. Was disappointed when it bombed.

It's a good novel too, from what I remember. I remember reading it and Gerald's Game back to back, and I think I enjoyed them both a lot, but preferred Dolores Claiborne.

I remember going to see Dolores Claiborne when it was released and absolutely adored it. Was so disappointed when it didn't do well, but it has developed a cult following in the intervening years. Entire cast is sensational -- Bates, Leigh, Judy Parfitt, all deserved Oscar nominations.

By JJL's own admission, she's not ambitious and doesn't lobby and schmooze for parts. She waits for offers to come to her.
