I thought she was adequate in A Star Is Born, but not Oscar-worthy.
In this new trailer, she seems to have upped her game a little.
(She's also not afraid to look mousy for the role. I almost forgot it was Gaga.)

Don't know, but now I can't wait to see her in the Designing Women reboot!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 3, 2021 12:21 PM |
No, and she’s getting thumped for her ridiculous accent in the trailer.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 3, 2021 12:31 PM |
I'll watch this. It looks delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 3, 2021 12:37 PM |
It's look like has camp factor. I'll watch it as well.

Al Pacino looks out of control (as per usual.)
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 3, 2021 12:52 PM |
She's getting Oscar buzz but I just don't see it for this movie. Judging by the trailers, it looks too campy to be taken seriously. And her accent sounds so fake. Though she somehow managed to get a Golden Globe for American Horror Story: Hotel and I felt she was monotone and robotic in that, so perhaps they'll give her one just for being Lady Gaga.

"Don't know, but now I can't wait to see her in the Designing Women reboot! "
Yes! The perfect Bernice
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 3, 2021 1:04 PM |
The accent sounds like something from an SNL skit.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 3, 2021 1:06 PM |
Gaga looks like Mike Myers as Linda Richman in Coffee Talk.

Here we go - a month's-long deluge of DL to shill this insipid pop star who wants to be a 'serious' actress. Between her paid shills and her weird fans who troll the web, DL will be inundated by these threads.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 3, 2021 1:11 PM |
@r8, I think that's where the camp comes in. Whether it's intentional or not Gaga is funny. Word of advice, if people laugh through the whole movie don't take it personal, wear it as a badge of honor
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 3, 2021 1:13 PM |
Yeah, you sound totally normally with your claims of "paid shills" and "weird fans who troll the web". Normal people always say that.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 3, 2021 1:13 PM |
Congratulations Gaga, you're a shoe-in to voice the Bullwinkle reboot!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 3, 2021 1:19 PM |
I was never big on Lady Gaga, but I think she more than holds her own based on the trailer.
Also, I used to wonder why people in movies sounded so ridiculous when playing Italians or French people speaking English. But then I actually heard French and Italian people speaking English!!!
Take for instance President Macron, an undeniably brilliant and multi-lingual man. He sounds like a cartoon character speaking English.

Will this be a musical?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 3, 2021 1:29 PM |
With leetle work and fresh poosey she can play me...
Merry KREESmas!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 3, 2021 1:33 PM |
I just don't care for her acting. I prefer her music. Though from what I hear, many fans seem to think her heart isn't in music anymore (particularly pop music after the phoned in Chromatica) and that she'd much rather be a full time actress/movie star. So go figure.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 3, 2021 2:48 PM |
She's not even improving as a human
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 3, 2021 2:49 PM |
Gaga would be good in a Knotts Landing reboot.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 3, 2021 2:49 PM |
In fact, no. No she is not. She is every bit as crappy as she's always been. Good question, though.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 3, 2021 2:55 PM |
She sounds like she's doing a Ukrainian accent, not an Italian one.
Americans of Italian descent are hilarious with their constant I'M ITALIAN while not being able to speak a lick of Italian.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 3, 2021 2:57 PM |
The only way to determine if her Italian accent is authentic or not is if we could hear her pronounce certain Italian deli meats.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 3, 2021 3:01 PM |
Let's start with prosciutto.
You-a pronounce-a it-a with-a you-a hands!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 3, 2021 3:24 PM |
^ You know Gaga has a half-dozen old NY Italian aunts who she probably modeled her accent after
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 3, 2021 3:27 PM |
The accent critics are way off. Just shows how smug and wrong some keyboard warriors can be. That's exactly how the real life woman sounded. You can watch a YouTube vid of her if you doubt this.
I think she deserves some sort of award for that fabulous Italian hand gesture querying who the man is.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 3, 2021 3:30 PM |
I love her look in the trailer but I still just see too much *acting.* A bit soapy and like she's forcing the lines out, the way she intensely stares at her scene partners is a bit overdone. I really think she would have excelled in some of those campier TV movie roles like Judith Light used to do though.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 3, 2021 3:34 PM |
Gaga sure is multitalented. Reminds me of Tracy Ullman.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 3, 2021 3:39 PM |
She's not so much an actress as she is a drag impressionist.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 3, 2021 3:43 PM |
Gaga is the new Joan Collins.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 3, 2021 3:44 PM |
I love her to pieces. I don’t get the hate.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 3, 2021 3:47 PM |
The movie is 2 hours and 37 minutes.
Oh, Ridley. Call it a day.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 3, 2021 3:48 PM |
"Is Lady Gaga improving as an actress?"
She could hardly get any worse.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 3, 2021 3:52 PM |
She tried to do a heavier and more authentic Italian accent but was told to tone it down. Hence the accent that sounds more Romanian.
She's going to be up against Kristen Stewart in Spencer and Jessica Chastain in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. When was the last time they had so many Best Actress nominees for biopics of female celebities/public figures/historical characters?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 3, 2021 4:11 PM |
Celebrities playing celebrities.
Hollywood is so incestuous.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 3, 2021 4:16 PM |
Her award for American Horror Story where she simply poses, slit open a few throats, and delivered a handful of lines in the most monotone way imaginable was a disgrace. She was much better in A Star is Born, but that was Bradley Cooper's movie through and through and he and Sam Elliot had the best material to work with there. Maybe she's capable of something great, but she seems a little dead behind the eyes. It's another reason why I think she has a great voice, but she's a terrible singer. She never seems to know what she's singing about.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 3, 2021 4:58 PM |
The new, longer clip makes me want to see it more than the original one did. Her accent was jarring and sounded totally wrong to me at first, but having now seen videos of the real woman she is playing, it's clear the accent is pretty well done. I had no idea Italy has different regional accents that affect English pronunciation. That said, Gaga still sounds a little marble mouthed.
Otherwise, it might be an OK movie. I'm glad that it doesn't look like another 'A Star is Born'-type Oscar grab story. It looks like it's made to be fun and campy.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 3, 2021 5:07 PM |
I think she can’t be worse than she was in Hotel. Am I the only one who thought she was godawful & didn’t deserve the Golden Globe?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 3, 2021 5:27 PM |
Gaga's acting in AHS Hotel was surprisingly dull.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 3, 2021 5:41 PM |
Gaga was breathtakingly good in AHS. Those who say she was bad are just A-grade homophobes.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 3, 2021 5:54 PM |
R40, thanks for the chuckle.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 3, 2021 5:56 PM |
What's so unfortunate is that you can't really have an actual conversation about Gaga on DL.
Which of course, is exactly why she's such a big star. She's hated just as much as she's loved. And logic tends to go out the window when she's being discussed.
For me? I thought she was quite good in ASIB, mediocre to bad in AHS. The soundtrack for the former was fantastic.
I LOVE campfests so Gucci seems like it will be my catnip. And Gaga looks glorious in it.
(I also think Chromatica is her best album to date which makes me think she has more things to say in the pop music realm.)
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 3, 2021 6:15 PM |
R42 I like her and I think she's incredibly talented, and she is totally hit or miss for me. I loved her early albums. I love that she made outside-the-box creativity so popular. I think she was great in A Star is Born, but the movie itself was one step above Lifetime schlock IMO. I think AHS sucks and she was no exception. Chromatica is...fine. It's too polished and bland to me. I prefer her with rough edges. But I do admire her artistry.
Some of us can be pretty objective about her.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 3, 2021 6:19 PM |
It's really tough to play real person.....it's a no win situation.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 3, 2021 6:28 PM |
I'll give Gaga a chance with this Gucci flick.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 3, 2021 6:30 PM |
That's funny R42, I have the reverse experience RE her music.
I don't care for the The Fame at all. The singles are great and catchy for sure, but the album is lacking. Ditto the The Fame Monster. I was amused by her wackiness more than I liked her early music.
Then that changed. I really like Born This Way (though I hate the single) and love the risk in Artpop (though, admittedly never really listened to Joanne).
But ASIB and Chromatica are the two albums that made me a fan. I love both of them.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 3, 2021 7:16 PM |
As much as I love Lady Gaga, a Golden Globe Award is the easiest award you can buy out of all awards. The Hollywood Foreign Press is very corrupt and extremely susceptible to bribes and gifts. Despite the name, next to none of the members are actual legitimate journalists. This is how Pia Zadora won. Her husband took them all on an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 3, 2021 7:43 PM |
I'd like to see this, but I wish it didn't feature Leto. I don't like him for a number of reasons, and he also took what looks like a great part from the schlumpy character actor who should have played it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 3, 2021 8:08 PM |
Yes I find the her accent is terrible comments really annoying. She sounds exactly like the person she is playing. I like her. And I am hoping this is her best performance as agree don't think she is a brilliant actress. The last album of hers I totally liked was Artpop although liked some of chromatica.

[quote] "The only way to determine if her Italian accent is authentic or not is if we could hear her pronounce certain Italian deli meats."
Fuck. It reminds me of when New Jersey, & Staten Island "Italians" (trash) insist they know how to pronounce Italian words, and clearly do not...to the point that it's cringe inducing. They're fucking idiots.
I'm looking at you, Artie Lange.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 3, 2021 11:09 PM |
In the new trailer she looks like she's having fun....why all this heavy breathing about her "performance:"? The movie itself is clearly trash, but it looks like GOOD trash.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 3, 2021 11:23 PM |
The film will be interesting on the original story's strength, which is fascinating - a modern tragedy of greed and betrayal that literally happened amidst the most luxurious aurroundings imaginable. The only things missing are nobility titles and Renaissance fashions.
The problem is that the entire trailer makes it look like the film will revolve around Gaga and her hammy, Italian mob mamma performance, which is stiff and includes an awful romagnol-via-Queens accent that is cringe-inducing.
R54, most Italians in New Jersey and Staten Island come from Naples, Sicily, Apulia and Calabria, where Neapolitan, Sicilian and Griko are spoken. Neapolitan and Sicilian are not as mutually intelligible with Italian as most people think (even if in Italy, they are called mere dialects), and in fact Sicilian has a literary tradition that is just asimportant as that of the Tuscan language, which ought to be the real name of Italian.
In the above-mentioned regions, most working class people use these languages in their daily lives, and reserve Italian for more formal/official purposes, or to talk to people from other areas of the country and foreigners. The Neapolitan language tends to soften hard consonants and neutralize the final vowel in male words (some variants eliminate it completely), and that is why their pronounce prosciutto as proshoot, canoli as ganol, manicotti as manigott and calamare as galammar or even gammar. The Italic languages and Sardinian are extremely diverse, and it is a pity that they are being slowly eradicated in favour of Tuscan, which only about 5% of the population spoke prior to 1860/61, when the Kingdom of Italy was created.
Anyway, the film will be entertaining, but not because of Gaga.

Now if she can just find a prince to marry, she WILL BE Princess Grace and put all the other singers/actresses/"Queens" of all colors/moguls/stars with substance issues/egomaniacs to fucking shame.
Is Prince Leopold still available?
