Thread about Mario Cantone had one thinking about Michael Urie. He was wonderful in "Ugly Betty", "The Goodwife", and "Modern Family", but really doesn't seem to get much film or theatre work.

He and Vanessa Williams had excellent chemistry on Ugly Betty. Didn't he stay in the closet for several years after that show ended, even though his homosexuality is visible from outer space?

I've always thought he's adorable. I liked him in "Buyer and Cellar", which he streamed on Broadway.com last year. And he was excellent in "Ugly Betty", R6. I wasn't aware he'd been in "Modern Family", because after seeing a few clips, I couldn't bring myself to watch it...the handheld camera use is annoying, even if it does serve the story.
And according to internet searches on my part, he's only 5'11". I myself am 5'4", but I always imagined him to be at least 6'2" or so. Who knew. Anyway, I like the guy.

Michael Urie's character on Ugly Betty was great when he tried to stop Justin's family from giving the kid a "gay coming out party". I've never laughed so much.....

When he was invited to the Golden Globes on the Ugly Betty table his plus one was a then-unsuccessful Jessica Chastain. Has she returned the favour? Hell no.

R5 Are you just reading Urie's quote regarding Coolidge that appears as the caption to the photo link at R4? .. Reading the entire article, my takeaway is that what Urie is talking about is a subplot within the movie that involves Coolidge's "Aunt Sandy" character, who he says is writing/directing/starring in the town's local Christmas Pageant.

He got his big break because Vanessa Williams took an interest in him, even down to telling him to stick by her so that he'd appear in camera shots for the Ugly Betty pilot where he had no dialogue. I would guess that he understands that anyone you work with could help you or can you if they become powerful.

He wouldn't be even if he were straight--he's a comic actor with an unusual face. He's attractive, but he's not a leading man type (unlike, say, Matt Bomer or Cheyenne Jackson, who are held back from having conventional leading man roles because of their sexuality, not their looks).

I've seen Michael Urie in dramatic roles onstage and he handled them just fine. Prior to the shutdown he acted in a revival of Tony Kushner's "A Bright Room Called Day" downtown at the Public Theater and did a lovely job.

I’ve seen him in a number of stage performance and appreciated his performance, but he has hard time projecting beyond being Michael Urie. That’s why Buyer and Cellar probably worked best with his abilities is it didn’t skew far from who is already, it just that he is always present as Michael and never completely disappears into a role. He would have been great at a time when there were variety shows like the Carol Burnett Show.

Michael is amazing and I loved him (and would liked to've seen more of him in the 'Swan Song' movie.
He's also incredibly homosexual; why anyone would say otherwise is baffling. I actually saw him in an Off-Broadway play several years back. My friend and I had front row seats. We're both gay, and the crotch of Michael's very tight pants burst during the performance when he did a hunkering dance move. We restrained ourselves (unlike the crotch of his pants), and he realized himself that he needed to excuse himself nonchalantly. He did just that, and came back in as if nothing had happened. My friend--a Broadway superfan--was trying to explain to me what had happened after the performance. I silenced him and said, "I know what happened...I saw Michael Urie's scrotum."

I don't follow it anymore but I used to regularly visit Alan Cumming's Instagram page several years ago and it was always pics of him with his handsome young assistant at the time, pics of him on the dance floor in some gay nightclub surrounded by a group of cute twinks, pics of him with his husband (are they still together?), etc. So yeah, I never buy the "I'm bisexual" thing with him but to each his own.

r67 Whats with the fucking eyeroll? Most bisexuals live essentially gay or straight lives, depending on their preference. Both Michael and Alan are perfect examples of that. They date/ have long term relationships with men, engage in gay social events, mix in gay circles, have 'gay' mannerisms and pop culture references. But both are not 'gay'. Only a few years ago Alan was at the helm of the bisexual pride in Tel Aviv.

by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 4, 2021 8:27 AM |
Michael explicitly says that while people might assume he is gay, and he knows some gay men date women before coming out, he is in fact not gay;
“I’ve been in a relationship for a while now, and if you just met the two of us together we’d be ‘gay,’ ” he explains. “But that somehow means anything that happened before [we met] didn’t count—and I don’t feel that way. I know that some people feel that way. They were with women, but it always felt wrong. But it didn’t for me. It felt right at the time. It didn’t work out, but it also didn’t work out with other men—many times. That’s why ‘gay’ never seemed right.”
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 4, 2021 8:32 AM |
He has a great career. He starred as Hamlet at the Shakespeare Theatre while simultaneously directing another play just before the pandemic and he got rave reviews for his Hamlet. He works constantly, just not on TV. I did feel 'some kind of way' about seeing that he hosted an HGTV design show, which seems a little beneath him if he's going to do television. I have had a big crush on him for a long time. I really don't care if he is gay or bi or something else.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 4, 2021 8:55 AM |
I dont particularly care (although I will fully admit to not being a massive fan of bisexuals generally, but within this case specifically I dont care). I just care that its wrong to call him gay when he has explicitly said not only is he not, but also acknowledged why some men might date women before coming out as gay - but thats not him. He is bi.

Rewatching Ugly Betty and urie does stand out. The first half of the first season was so good. And the dropoff was equally noticeable. The old school TV seasons of 20 plus episodes were unsustainable in terms of quality.
The interminable Henry storyline was a drag. I remember the show rebounding to higher standards for its 4th and final season. I'm glad it went out on a high note. I'm slogging through the 2nd season and not overly excited about the 3rd. Hopefully it will be worth it once I reach the the 4th.

For a few decades now a fuck ton of films and television is done in NYC so there's that as well. Oh and fact that a NYC based actor primarily working in city isn't going to be asked out of blue to be interviewed for a CA news/entertainment segment .
Ugly Betty for instance was bi-coastal, but majority of episodes were filmed in NYC.

To me he looks much cuter in early middle age than he did in his 20s. He has an odd rubberface which is probably great for comic effect on stage. He behaves like a hysterical attention-desperate twink still, though.

He needs a jo video to “accidentally” leak.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | November 13, 2021 8:33 PM |
Because he sucks, and not in a good way.
Also, when people see his name, they see Michael Urine.

🤢Ain’t no one want to see that! 🤮

Sexual leaks seem to boost most actors carreers…especially if they’re packing.

Packing what?

Ii went to see Brandon Urie when he replaced Billy Porter in Kinky Boots on Broadway and was so disappointed when I realized I had been expecting Michael. But Brandon turned out to be pretty damn good.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | November 14, 2021 1:08 AM |
Wait, he played a black part??
by Anonymous | reply 136 | November 14, 2021 1:15 AM |
Brandon Urie is bisexual too.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | November 14, 2021 1:18 AM |
r135 r137 BRENDON, not Brandon.

How is Michael Urie's singing voice? Maybe he could have done the Sean Hayes role in "Promises, Promises"
by Anonymous | reply 139 | November 14, 2021 3:23 AM |
He played Bud Frump in H2$.

Brendon Urie played Charlie Price, not Lola, the Billy Porter role.

What is H2$?
by Anonymous | reply 142 | November 14, 2021 5:29 AM |
"How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," R142.

The trailer for Single All the Way looks cute.

The queens flailing about Urie’s bisexuality are ridiculous. He fucks women much more frequently than men but who cares? He and Spahn have been roommates and nothing more for well over a decade. Urie has a kid in jersey somewhere with some frau.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | November 15, 2021 6:39 AM |
Was he supposed to be something other than a gay character actor ?

Oh please. This queen is not fucking women.

I've never heard of him.

Michael Urie has a kid?

When was the last time Michael Urie dated a woman? He's been with his boyfriend for years. Or is this just some fantasy that he somehow fucks women on the side?
by Anonymous | reply 152 | November 15, 2021 1:57 PM |
No, this thread has gone off the rails because people don't know how to reference previous posts.

Clearly a fantasy, although who would have such a fantasy about Michael Urie, I can't imagine.

Michael Urie and partner make news yet again...

Single All the Way is out now on Netflix.

R153 Every thread goes "off the rails", stupid cunt. DL is filled with nothing but stupid, moronic trolls these days.

R152 urie is poly. I think his only official is with girlina posted above but just about all of his other (concurrent) relationships have been with women, and he’s frequently on tinder hooking up with women. He doesn’t talk about it because in his mind he has a brand.
