What incense do you burn?

Fat old hippy whores reeking of patchouli, and svelte collectors of important chinoiserie for your Telegraph Hill Art Deco garçonnières... What kinds of incense do you burn, and when for each variety?

I found a brand I like (Wild Berry Incense) and the scents are wonderful--floral and woodsy and such--none of that 70s musky stank, but unfortunately the sticks leave soot everywhere. Might have to switch to the cones. I like to burn it while I'm working at home.

by Anonymousreply 1October 30, 2021 11:41 PM

White sage, to neutralize negative energy and bring peace and contentment.

by Anonymousreply 2October 31, 2021 12:01 AM

Do you burn the sage leaf itself or use sage incense?

by Anonymousreply 3October 31, 2021 12:04 AM

I hate incense. Smells horrible and permeates everything

by Anonymousreply 4October 31, 2021 12:04 AM

OK but how do you mask the crypt-like musty decay off-gassing from your rotting mouth and dirty bits, R4? Febreze?

by Anonymousreply 5October 31, 2021 12:09 AM

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 6October 31, 2021 12:14 AM

Nag Champa

by Anonymousreply 7October 31, 2021 12:17 AM

R6 no burning of that awful Sand Incense then, right?

by Anonymousreply 8October 31, 2021 12:19 AM

Nag Champa here too.

by Anonymousreply 9October 31, 2021 12:31 AM

[quote]What incense do you burn?

Dead man's hands with beeswax candles, upon which I toss small bits of the frankincense we harvest from our Boswellia tree in the crypt garden.

To me, most incense is disgusting (no criticism of anyone else intended; I'm just very easily triggered in terms of smells). However, there is one Japanese brand, Shoyeido, that I actually quite liked. It doesn't smoke a lot and has a clean, light quality.

by Anonymousreply 14October 31, 2021 12:55 AM

I found a brand called Escentials. It's good quality. I like the Buddhist temple blend. It has patchouli, sandalwood, and something else. It's nice. I also like nag champa.

by Anonymousreply 15October 31, 2021 2:06 AM

I burned my innocence decades ago.

by Anonymousreply 16October 31, 2021 2:39 AM

Nag Champa

by Anonymousreply 17October 31, 2021 2:40 AM

Burning incense is unhealthy and dangerous. Just don't do it.

by Anonymousreply 18October 31, 2021 2:42 AM

R18 Might you please provide factual reasoning / research for this claim?

by Anonymousreply 19October 31, 2021 3:11 AM

Nag Champa

by Anonymousreply 20October 31, 2021 3:12 AM

Most candles and incense will release pollutants in the home but if you aren't a Frau doing this daily, and you keep it in modest quantities, I don't think its that terrible.

by Anonymousreply 21October 31, 2021 3:32 AM

Smell of nag champa, shadow of a stranger

by Anonymousreply 22October 31, 2021 3:37 AM

I like a simple sandalwood. Japanese incense doesn’t put off much smoke. I burn a stick twice daily, morning and evening, during Buddhist devotions.

by Anonymousreply 23October 31, 2021 3:41 AM

Do you buy Japanese incense locally or order it from Japan?

by Anonymousreply 24October 31, 2021 3:43 AM

I use a Japanese brand that has tobacco, sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla. I love the smell, perfect for fall/winter.

by Anonymousreply 25October 31, 2021 9:29 AM

R24, I order it online. Someone upthread mentioned Shoyeido, which is a Japanese incense brand that has been in business for literally centuries. That’s where I get it. I’ve seen it locally in stores once or twice, but I can’t remember which ones.

by Anonymousreply 26October 31, 2021 11:58 AM

Nag Champa is based on a sandalwood and champa (magnolia).

by Anonymousreply 27October 31, 2021 12:43 PM

I have loved Nag Champa for so many years...hard to beat it.

by Anonymousreply 28October 31, 2021 12:52 PM

Father-daughter is my favorite. Oh, you said incense? Nevermind.

by Anonymousreply 29October 31, 2021 1:22 PM

Nag Champa will choke a bear.

by Anonymousreply 30October 31, 2021 1:29 PM

Another vote for white sage. I tried growing it without success.

by Anonymousreply 31October 31, 2021 1:35 PM

r31 dryer soil, full sun. my favorite is clevelandii. better in ground than in a pot.

by Anonymousreply 32October 31, 2021 1:42 PM

My partner’s sister is a frau who sells Scentsy products (over priced wax melts and the device that melts them) We unfortunately have this crap now.

by Anonymousreply 33October 31, 2021 1:49 PM

Depends on the daemon of the day.

by Anonymousreply 34October 31, 2021 1:52 PM

R3 I use the incense sticks. Haven't tried the leaves though you can do that too. I burn frankincense often as well (the pure resin version) with charcoal as well; it's more powerful a cleanser than sage incense or leaves. I recommend doing your research. I bought this highly rated white sage incense from Amazon and have been very happy with it.

Link please, r18, or we can only conclude you're pulling this claim entirely out of your ass.

by Anonymousreply 36October 31, 2021 7:47 PM

you always hear those stories about people who were killed by incense

by Anonymousreply 37October 31, 2021 7:51 PM

Again, link please, r37, or it never happened.

Lighten up, SS-Oberführer Dirlewanger R38. In our culture, R37 is called "satire" and we laugh.

by Anonymousreply 39October 31, 2021 8:30 PM

My favourite is Radha's Devotion from Auroshikha. (AKA Oriental Bouquet). I like Palo Santo and Nag Champa as well. The Palo Santo made by K N Satyam (the same firm famous for the "Original Nag Champa") smells quite good, yet some say it cannot be real or 100% genuine, as the price is too low. It smells great nonetheless.

by Anonymousreply 40October 31, 2021 9:02 PM

Try BLUE PEARL. So good it will alter your consciousness.

by Anonymousreply 41October 31, 2021 9:25 PM

I have a lovely prune, maple syrup and basil stick I made myself.

by Anonymousreply 42October 31, 2021 9:30 PM

We love good old Nag Champa.

by Anonymousreply 43October 31, 2021 9:53 PM

Blackbird makes gorgeous incense
