Fat old hippy whores reeking of patchouli, and svelte collectors of important chinoiserie for your Telegraph Hill Art Deco garçonnières... What kinds of incense do you burn, and when for each variety?
I found a brand I like (Wild Berry Incense) and the scents are wonderful--floral and woodsy and such--none of that 70s musky stank, but unfortunately the sticks leave soot everywhere. Might have to switch to the cones. I like to burn it while I'm working at home.

White sage, to neutralize negative energy and bring peace and contentment.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 31, 2021 12:01 AM |
Do you burn the sage leaf itself or use sage incense?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 31, 2021 12:04 AM |
I hate incense. Smells horrible and permeates everything
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 31, 2021 12:04 AM |
OK but how do you mask the crypt-like musty decay off-gassing from your rotting mouth and dirty bits, R4? Febreze?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 31, 2021 12:09 AM |
I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Nag Champa
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 31, 2021 12:17 AM |
R6 no burning of that awful Sand Incense then, right?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 31, 2021 12:19 AM |
Nag Champa here too.

[quote]What incense do you burn?
Dead man's hands with beeswax candles, upon which I toss small bits of the frankincense we harvest from our Boswellia tree in the crypt garden.

To me, most incense is disgusting (no criticism of anyone else intended; I'm just very easily triggered in terms of smells). However, there is one Japanese brand, Shoyeido, that I actually quite liked. It doesn't smoke a lot and has a clean, light quality.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 31, 2021 12:55 AM |
I found a brand called Escentials. It's good quality. I like the Buddhist temple blend. It has patchouli, sandalwood, and something else. It's nice. I also like nag champa.

R18 Might you please provide factual reasoning / research for this claim?

Nag Champa

Most candles and incense will release pollutants in the home but if you aren't a Frau doing this daily, and you keep it in modest quantities, I don't think its that terrible.

Smell of nag champa, shadow of a stranger
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 31, 2021 3:37 AM |
I like a simple sandalwood. Japanese incense doesn’t put off much smoke. I burn a stick twice daily, morning and evening, during Buddhist devotions.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 31, 2021 3:41 AM |
Do you buy Japanese incense locally or order it from Japan?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 31, 2021 3:43 AM |
I use a Japanese brand that has tobacco, sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla. I love the smell, perfect for fall/winter.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 31, 2021 9:29 AM |
R24, I order it online. Someone upthread mentioned Shoyeido, which is a Japanese incense brand that has been in business for literally centuries. That’s where I get it. I’ve seen it locally in stores once or twice, but I can’t remember which ones.

Nag Champa is based on a sandalwood and champa (magnolia).

R3 I use the incense sticks. Haven't tried the leaves though you can do that too. I burn frankincense often as well (the pure resin version) with charcoal as well; it's more powerful a cleanser than sage incense or leaves. I recommend doing your research. I bought this highly rated white sage incense from Amazon and have been very happy with it.

My favourite is Radha's Devotion from Auroshikha. (AKA Oriental Bouquet). I like Palo Santo and Nag Champa as well. The Palo Santo made by K N Satyam (the same firm famous for the "Original Nag Champa") smells quite good, yet some say it cannot be real or 100% genuine, as the price is too low. It smells great nonetheless.
