My lesbian aunties live there and they said that a huge chunk or east coast LGBs go there. Are you among them?
Do any of you lovelies visit Rehoboth Beach, DE in the spring/summer season?

What's not to like? Hands down beats Asbury Park, on Jersey Shore!

Fuck anyplace on the NJ shore. The constant money grab by anyone and everyone, for tolls, beach tags, parking, is outrageous.
OP, do yourself a favor and follow the sage advice of your dowager lesbo aunties and avoid the Jersey Shore. Do Rehoboth, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, South Bethany Beach, or Fenwick Island before you attempt to be fiscally raped at the NJ shore.

I love that area, I plan to retire there.

I’ve been. It’s fine. Classier option than Ocean City MD.

I have visited friends there, Rehoboth is lovely. They have dolphins that you can see from the boardwalk, quite charming. There is a ferry from nearby Lewes DE to Cape May which is a nice day trip. I adore Rehoboth.

Isn't the water cold and murky?

R6, the water is typical eastern shore ocean water. Yes, cold, but luckily pretty clean.

I was shocked to find it was a NJ shore like town of white middle class families vacationing - with a smattering of gays thrown in. I expected a Ptown or Fire Island or Asbury Park. It’s odd to me that Rehoboth is the only gay weekend place for DC - but it really isn’t all that gay. Do DC gays not go away for the weekend like NY gays?

R8, it is still very gay. The families are out early, and then the gays come out later. I actually like it because of the diversity.

[quote]typical eastern shore ocean water.
In fairness, the water off the west coast is pretty cold, too.
It's only the Atlantic and Gulf in the South -- and Hawaii -- where the water is pleasantly warm.

R8
Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware coastline offer a wealth of beach options for those from Washington, D.C. and surrounding area. Question is distance as in how far one is willing to drive or otherwise travel to get to and from.
If for several days or maybe long weekend a two and one half hour drive may not seem so bad. But to do it just for say Friday to Sunday...

Now R8 if you want to narrow choices down to "gay" beaches (or least very friendly) near Washington, D.C, besides Rehoboth, Delaware, you've got Colonial Beach, in Virginia and Asbury Park, NJ.
It really depends upon what sort of scene one is seeking. An older person or couple who aren't interested in the frantic often circuit party like atmosphere might find Colonial Beach right up their alley.

Delaware beaches are consistently ranked in top five for water quality.
OTOH less said about some NJ and NY beaches the better on that matter.
