Paulina Porizkova - Settles for 1/3rd of Ocasek Estate

Not only that, they combined their finances, so she definitely should be awarded what she was due.

Rick Ocasek was an ugly guy who got lucky with a beautiful model (the most popular model of the '80s). She was significantly younger than him. Like all ugly men, he got resentful and nasty when he got older.

Good riddance.

It's really odd to me that she was taking care of him still, the day of his death. Wasn't he seeing someone else? She seems like a good egg. I'm glad she got 1/3. She deserves that, at least.

by Anonymousreply 2October 27, 2021 9:15 PM

She was still married to him at the time of his death and by NY law, she gets a part of the estate.

[quote]At the time of Ocasek's death, his assets were listed as $5 million in 'copyrights,' $100,000 in 'tangible personal property,' and $15,000 in cash. However, Porizkova insisted reports that he was only worth $5 million were 'bulls**t.' When Goldman asked if the low number was 'for tax purposes,' she claimed 'it was.'

I'm totally with PP on this one. Someone did quite the job hiding assets. What was their home worth? Is she still living there?

One-third of $5 million is less than $1.7 million. At 56, with a rather lavish lifestyle in Manhattan, PP could never afford to live/retire on that. No way.

[quote]Ocasek left behind six sons, two from each of his three marriages. His oldest sons from his first marriage to Constance Campbell, Chris and Adam Otcask, were also left out of his will. 'So, I was really messed up, and I won’t ever have the answers because we can't ask him,' said Porizkova, who shared she is close with both Chris and Adam's families.

I loved THE CARS when I was a teen, but Ocasek sounds like a mean, bitter SOB, frankly.

by Anonymousreply 5October 27, 2021 9:38 PM

What the fuck did she see in him? With her looks she could have gotten an equally rich man who didn't scare children with his face.

by Anonymousreply 6October 27, 2021 10:51 PM

[quote] Chris and Adam Otcask

I remember Chris Ocasek, he looked like a better-looking version of his father. He lived in Columbus, Ohio. I was at a party and he was there too.

Yuo go, Paulina! As the spowse of a wealthey men , I to worrey abouts inherratince of me an my Son. These why The Donald wont to move from New York, I no! I we'll not be cut out of evrything and loose it to his fugly kids. Like He say, 'Yuo gotta fight!".

by Anonymousreply 8October 27, 2021 11:20 PM

If she's hired a financial planner she's clearly getting a bundle.

by Anonymousreply 9October 27, 2021 11:25 PM

Good for her. I remember her saying years ago that Rick’s son was abusive towards her when they first got married. They hated her. She gave Rick the best years of her life, and deserves something to show for it.

by Anonymousreply 10October 27, 2021 11:32 PM

Be best, Paulinas!

by Anonymousreply 11October 28, 2021 12:05 AM

Creepy dude, take him to the cleaners girl!

by Anonymousreply 12October 28, 2021 2:04 AM

She sold the apartment a couple years ago. And I think it was legally hers--perhaps joint tenancy and went to her since divorce was not final when he passed.

Yes, good on her that she gets her 1/3 widow share. But having said that, she's as crazy as a loon, bipolar being my first guess.

by Anonymousreply 13October 28, 2021 2:06 AM

She must have been nuts to have married him in the first pace. I agree, she could be bipolar. Someone should taker her off of Instagram. She has a mean girl look about her.

by Anonymousreply 14October 28, 2021 2:34 AM

I hope her caps aren't melting.

by Anonymousreply 15October 28, 2021 3:37 AM

It almost seems as though he knew she would be entitled to 1/3rd of the estate and so he left the will just to be spiteful and let everyone know he didn't want her to have a penny.

He should have gotten off his ass and divorced her if he was that serious about it.

by Anonymousreply 16October 28, 2021 8:23 AM

Oy - so after all that griping about being left out,, she got a generous amount of money. Now hopefully we can stop listening to her complain about being left for broke.

by Anonymousreply 17October 28, 2021 10:02 AM

To the Frau at R17: She did not receive a generous amount of money. Paulina was the highest paid model in the world when she met her husband and made more money then he did for many years during their marriage

Since they combined their finances, Ocasek was living off her money, and at the same time he belittled her modeling career and earnings. Ocasek was apparently as ugly on the inside as he was on the outside.

And who are the mentally ill people on here who diagnose every woman who posts on Instagram as bipolar or schizophrenic? Stop projecting, girls!

by Anonymousreply 18October 28, 2021 10:44 AM

Paulina may be annoying or cry a lot or whatever, but there's no way she is the bad guy in this. That would be the asshole who tried to cut his wife out of his will *while she was taking care of him post-op* and also cut his two eldest sons out as well. I liked The Cars too, but Ocasek was a complete floor Lego.

by Anonymousreply 19October 28, 2021 10:54 AM

I love her. She seems kind and funny. You don’t see that combination as often as you should. Especially on Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 20October 28, 2021 11:09 AM

R20, she’s kind, beautiful and smart. A rare combination. She should have been smarter when it comes to her own money, but it’s hard to fault her for being young and trusting her husband.

by Anonymousreply 21October 28, 2021 11:26 AM

From what I know she certainly deserves the one-third.

Obviously things go on between people that we will never know or understand and not every relationship ends amicably, but it's generally something of a dark mark not tp be able to part without some note of generosity and goodwill. I don't know her situation financially but when one partner has much greater resources than the other, it seems doubly important to try to be a little generous or at least reasonably fair to someone with whom you shared your life.

by Anonymousreply 22October 28, 2021 11:27 AM

No one is denigrating "every woman who posts on Instagram." She's a loony, manic exhibitionist who can't shut up about Ocasek and can't stop shoving nudie and cheesecake shots of herself at the world. The increasingly repelled world. Aaron Sorkin spent five minutes with her and ran for the hills after she shrieked about it on the 'gram. She's disordered. But again, good for her getting her 1/3 and the dough from the apartment sale.

by Anonymousreply 23October 28, 2021 1:06 PM

I would love to know the true story here! I initially believed her but since following her on Instagram for a while she seems nuts and desperate so idk.

by Anonymousreply 24October 28, 2021 1:22 PM

Glad she got her coins, but yeah, her endless musings about getting older are tedious and her attention seeking posts make her seem immature, desperate and loony. She needs to get her head out of her ass and think about things other than herself.

by Anonymousreply 25October 28, 2021 2:17 PM

Judging by her instagram, she seems codependent and meek. He was probably a narcissist (most male artists are) and wanted the status symbol of a gorgeous girl who acts as a maid. He probably did not respect her or thought she wronged him when she started to become more of her own person. Just my speculation.

by Anonymousreply 26October 28, 2021 2:32 PM

R6 The invisible borderline / narcissist connection, or something along those lines.

by Anonymousreply 27October 28, 2021 2:38 PM

I would think a surviving spouse should get more than a third (?)

by Anonymousreply 28October 28, 2021 3:02 PM

She used to show up on Letterman in her prime and whine about how stupid and useless modeling was. She should have been kissing the feet of Eileen Ford for rescuing her from a future of working as a sex or farm worker in Czechoslovakia.

by Anonymousreply 29October 28, 2021 4:34 PM

She deserved the money and perhaps more but she's not even remotely kind. She's actually kind of mean and snobby.

by Anonymousreply 30October 28, 2021 4:45 PM

R6, I believe her childhood definitely played a role. Wasn't she separated from her parents for a long time due to the Iron Curtain? She was also 18 when she met him. It really isn't surprising.

by Anonymousreply 31October 28, 2021 4:47 PM

She made a fortune modeling for decades. . The Estee Lauder contract alone $$$. I am sure Ric was happy to spend that money on the real estate he attempted cut to her out of. Good for her.

by Anonymousreply 33October 28, 2021 5:12 PM

She made WAY less money than Ric. A few well paid gigs 30 years ago maybe - but Ric had steady revenue between royalties and gigs. She is not meek. I’ve seen her interviewed aver the years and and she comes off as ballsy, blunt and tough. 1/3 is fair. And is more than $5 million guaranteed.

by Anonymousreply 34October 28, 2021 5:55 PM

Not really R34, she made $6 million a year with her Estée Lauder contract alone which she had from 1988 through 1995. That’s $42 million right there and she was making at least several million annually on top of that around the same time for many other prestigious campaigns like Versace, Escada, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel, and Christian Dior.

Plus she was booking things like those Sprite commercials, runway work, and tons of editorial for everything from Cosmo, Glamour, and Sports Illustrated to every edition of Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and VOGUE around the world. Many people underestimate what a model at her level can earn in a very good 8 to 10 year run when combined with a major contract like the one for Lauder.

She easily made somewhere between $50 to $60 million total during the height of her career. And she could have kept earning for many years to come just like some of her peers. She quit because Ocasek didn’t want her to keep modeling and she respected his wishes. The industry was far from tired of her and she could have easily kept booking very good jobs and bringing some serious money to them as a couple.

If she had been married to Mick Jagger, I’d say yes of course her money wouldn’t be anywhere near on par. But with someone like Ocasek she probably had pretty equal financial footing for a long time. I love them, but The Cars were done as a band by 1988 and never had major world tours. Ric was incredibly successful but it’s not like she married Bruce Springsteen or Paul McCartney.

And yes, as she has stated, the $5 million estimate the media made for his estate was bullshit. It was probably at least 10 to 15 times that amount.

by Anonymousreply 35October 28, 2021 6:39 PM

Well if Paulina did indeed make $50 million then it's on her for not getting a good financial advisor and managing her money. If she had managed her money carefully, she wouldn't be begging for food from her neighbors, as she claimed to have done.

She definitely has plenty of Axis II, Cluster B personality traits, that is for sure.

by Anonymousreply 36October 28, 2021 6:45 PM

That’s exactly what she’s been saying ever since he died R36… “don’t let the man handle it all just because society may have traditionally said so, don’t just give him your money if you are also earning, be an active financial decision maker as part of your marriage”.

She’s openly saying she was stupid about it all and hoping women will listen to her. She even did some podcasts about it earlier this year with a top female banker named Paula Polito.

It also shows up Ric Ocasek to have been a big shit since a very significant part of “his” estate would have been comprised of Paulina’s money.

How so, R30?

by Anonymousreply 38October 28, 2021 7:01 PM

S H U T U P please

by Anonymousreply 39October 28, 2021 7:11 PM

Her parents defected and left her in Czechoslovakia when she was a little girl and she was separated from them for a decade. She was finally reunited with them when she was a teenager when the Czech communist regime allowed her to move to Sweden to be with them, however about a year or two later, her father left her and her mother. Daddy/Abandonment issues galore. It's not at all surprising that she hooked up with a much older man of Czech descent as a teenager and willing turned over her agency to him.

by Anonymousreply 40October 28, 2021 7:13 PM

R38 just from interviews I've seen of her, she's one of those pretty women that prides themselves on being rude under the guise of "honesty" but it's really just a chance to be a bitch. And she knows she gets away with it because of her looks. Also she's Czech and they're known for being rather rude and arrogant in general. So it's twofold with her. Still deserves that money though.

by Anonymousreply 41October 28, 2021 7:32 PM

Thanks, R41. I've never seen her interviewed and don't follow her on social media, so she's a bit of an enigma to me.

Agreed. She’s beyond obsessed with her fading beauty. It’s rather startling to watch.

by Anonymousreply 43October 28, 2021 7:44 PM

She has very big feet. She should have got nothing.
